I’m always on the hunt for a treasure trove — I mean who isn’t? When you’re a die-hard vintage fashion fiend like myself, you’ve seen it all; the good, the bad, and yes — the ugly. I have a lot of experience digging on my hands and knees through piles of dusty clothes, so I know when I’ve spotted gold. Just to be clear, there was no need for me to rummage through the carefully curated racks of the perfectly polished vintage clothes at The Fine Art of Design. The owners have impeccable taste and because of that I was able to score some seriously special pieces, including this blouse. My favorite thing to do with vintage is to make it feel present and styling my new top with my favorite shorts and denim jacket was exactly what was needed to make it feel new again.

Who knew that I could love a jacket so darn much? I definitely didn’t until my sweet boyfriend’s mom sent me this beauty as a graduation gift (yes, she is kind of amazing). I love that it’s an updated version of a retro favorite (Pink Ladies from Grease anyone?), but I have to say this one takes the cake. It has that downtown cool vibe that the Pink Ladies’ one was lacking, don’t you think? I’ve seriously been living in it and I know that won’t be changing anytime soon. It just makes everything look so modern — even this vintage ’90s dress.

Can you tell how hot I am in these pictures? What gives it away: my frizzy hair, protruding veins or tired looking eyes? Yes, you can also say all of the above! It was about 104 degrees and pretty brutal to try and pose in the little bit of shade that we could find. But honestly I couldn’t go to Palm Springs without wearing this outfit; it’s so retro — it was made to be worn (and photographed) out there. I’ll tell you a little secret: I’ve had these shorts for almost two years and have never worn them! Isn’t that crazy? I guess I felt that two years of being in my closet was a sufficient amount of time for them to finally make their debut!

When it comes to jewelry I’m a bracelet fiend. Over the years I’ve become more drawn to all things gold and/or rose gold. I may be crazy, but I personally feel that there’s something a little more elegant and edgy to them than silver. It’s always fun finding over-the-top costume-y jewels to wear on occasion, but I also like things that can be worn on the daily mixed with a variety of metals. I knew that this bracelet that was kindly gifted to me from H.AZEEM would be one of those perfect go-to items to wear regularly. It’s dainty enough to be stacked with others yet it has enough sparkle to be the center of attention.

As close as we live to Palm Springs now we had never been until this past weekend. I didn’t really know what to expect, I only knew that I would fall madly in love with it — which guess what, I did. The scenery was nothing like I’d ever seen before, the weather was beautiful and the mid-century architecture made me feel like I stepped back into the ’60s (all of my shift dresses would get a lot more lovin’ out in the desert). Oh, and don’t even get me started on the vintage and thrift shops — they are to die for. So, I’ve come to the conclusion that Palm Springs was pretty much made for me and I can’t wait until I make it back!

With my college graduation quickly approaching (17 days away!) I’ve kind of realized that I’m a little freaked out to become an adult. OK, I know I have already crossed over to adulthood, but I guess I’m not entirely ready to have all of the responsibilities that come with it. I know there’s nothing I can do about it so I shouldn’t spend too much time dwelling on something that I can’t change. I can however focus on things that I can change (my outfits); the more nostalgic the better! Don’t worry though, just because I’ve whipped out a pair of vintage short overalls doesn’t mean that I will also be putting an assortment of butterfly clips in my hair that I spent hours crimping (don’t pretend that you weren’t guilty, too!). Really though, I love that overalls — short and long, have made such a comeback; they can be surprisingly chic when styled right.

I’ve never liked labeling my style as preppy because first of all, it’s not and second of all, the word ‘preppy’ makes me think of something really traditional or sometimes bland. While I do enjoy my fair share of button downs and gingham printed anything, I wouldn’t classify myself as a prep. I like being able to take classic pieces that have a preppy feel and pairing them with other items in my closet to make them feel more like me. It’s also nice to see a lot of brands upgrading their traditional designs and adding quirky details to make them feel more present – like this tailored button down; the beadwork totally makes it.

I’ve become quite the busy bee and my schedule will be even crazier for the next few weeks. I’m getting into finals, then in just three short weeks I will finally be graduating college! I just can’t wait to be done with all of my last assignments. I feel like I’ve been slacking a little in everything else that doesn’t pertain to school, including – you guessed it, my outfits. Lucky for me my boyfriend has a great style and when I ask him early enough in the morning, he usually agrees to let me borrow a shirt — or two, of his (the perks of having a night-owl of a boyfriend). I’m jealous that I don’t actually own this top because it’s beyond amazing. I love how slouchy it is and the stripes and buttons down the front give it a retro, baseball jersey feel, that I have to admit, I kind of love.

I have a slight obsession with sweaters; cropped, oversized, plain or patterned – I love them all. The best thing is that they can be layered over dresses, tucked into skirts or can even have that cool girl swag of being partially tucked in. My point is that they are incredibly versatile and can be worn from season to season. This daisy knit was sent to me from Sway Chic and ever since I got my little hands on it I haven’t wanted to take it off. It’s the perfect material – not too light or heavy, and the fact that it has oversized daisies on it is the icing on the cake. But really, anything that reminds me of the 60s is a done deal in my book!
