Received an email today from my online job company and sends instruction to update my profile for their website by providing them several information such as written personal details, professional looking photo, video and audio for clients to read, hear and see.

Done with the writing part and proceeds with my thirty-seconds audio file. However, I could only used my cellphone's voice recorder to make a voice recording. While doing so, I found it automatically saved to adaptive multi-rate audio file(.amr) and as per instruction, only mp3 files will be accepted.

So I browsed internet and finally after a failed installation of one file converter software, I found one that doesn't need a software download and it's for free, no signing up needed, too. The website is www.convertfiles.com

I simply browsed and uploaded the .amr recording and I chose what type I need, this time in .mp3 format.
In seconds, the computer gives me an mp3 recording as clear as the original one. So happy with this website's service; simple, hassle-free and free of charge.

This bag of Hawthorn flakes reminds me of my childhood where kids in our neighborhood substitute these flakes as "Ostiya" (Holy Bread in a Catholic Mass) out of frustration that we are not allowed to partake the said white bread during mass because we are still kids and so we improvised our own and find this red, round flakes in the stores.

Now grown up and able to participate in the Holy Sacrament of Eucharist, I no longer insists of making hawthrorn flakes a substitute to tasteless Ostiya, though I sometimes wish Ostiya to have a slight sweetness. Anyway, maybe who ever invented that white thin bread has a vision that someday diabetes will become a typical sickness and its more beneficial to body to make it sugarless.

But the sweet crunchy hawthorn flakes always have a place in my heart and so it is great to find one big bag in Aji Ichiban Candies Store, Megamall for Php 55.00. They also have a small roll of bigger disc for only Php 20.00 a roll.

Okay, so boyfriend seems not so aware how I love flowers. Long ago, a closefriend's death make me realized I want to enjoy the beauty of flowers and I don't want to give it as well during someone's funeral. So from then on, I never waited for anyone to give me flowers when I wanted it, I buy some for myself and I give it to others as well. Mother who is very price conscious and by nature- frugal, doesn't understand the whole concept of receiving a flower that is equivalent of one whole yummy cake. I told her I wanted her to see the flowers and enjoy their beauty while she can still see it.

Buying flowers on malls; though convenient, some are even imported and good quality are quite pricey. So, on a typical day when I want to just brighten my place, I grabbed flowers in the nearest church sold by peddlers outsides where you can get roses and chrysanthemums. On a regular day, a simple three roses costs only Php20.00, so as a bundle of hardy chrysanthemums. Are you gonna deprived yourself of making your place beautiful and make you feel good for only twenty pesos? So when you really love yourself, learn to give yourself flowers and if you have excess, give it to others. Trust me, they will be thrilled to receive it.

If Your Dreams Don't Scare You, They Are Not Big Enough

Please bear with me. This blog article will be very personal that I decided to just write whatever comes to my head.

What are the dreams that scares the hell out of you but you want it that badly, you are willing to do whatever it takes to fulfill them? Asked my online motivational trainer during a training session for that home-based job I am applying.

I paused. I think. I searched real hard. I went blank and realized I am not dreaming anything "BIG" for the past years. He said he wants a dream that's over crazy, seems impossible, may consider a joke if someone heard us saying it out loud and then think of all possible crazy solutions for that. Crazy dreams and crazy ways of achieving them flooded the chat room that trains a hundred people from different countries; India, Bangladesh, Iran, Iraq, a handful of Americans and fellow Filipinos mostly from Visayas and Mindanao. Well me, at the comfort of my own room, and did I say I was so glad it is just an audio meeting and training and not video skype, is struggling to find my big dreams as I read the wildest, biggest dreams of my team mates as it flashes in our training chat room. I smiled after I realized that I do have big dreams. I just forgot them or I placed them in the back of my mind because I have a harsh reality to face everyday and I hate frustrations that could make me sad. But I answered back to my trainer. I donated in the group my big dreams and we all have fun reading each other "impossible dreams".

Recently, I read from another motivational speaker that when we are kids, we used to dream big. We knew our ambitions. We have an idea what we want to be our purpose in life. But when we grow up, the cruel world as we know it and the people around us tells us to have a dream that is somehow "achievable" and so we learn to lower our dreams, our ambitions and our standards which eventually lessen our hope; the fire and zest to achieve them, to make them a reality and us to be genuinely happy.

After the training session, I searched for a picture and place the exacts words he shares in the training. " If your Dreams Don't Scare You, They Are Not Big Enough", and I found my perfect picture to go along with it; taken on top of a mountain overlooking the places that I coveted yet feared.

On top of Mt. Pico de Loro in the picture, I saw my big dreams and the obstacles I must face.

The hike going on top of the mountain could be compare to our life. Its long and winding. It is muddy and confusing that I slipped countless time; just like life's wrong decisions and choices. Yet, like in the hike, I choose to stand up and proceed with the journey. As I looked back, I realized my bad choices in the past doesn't ruin me at all. That is because I choose to go on but heading on the right direction after my several "big" falls. The top of the mountian offers a spectacular view, only visible to the courageous heart.To those who are no-quitter.

I saw the beaches of Hamilo Coast. I dreamed of my own beachfront house but that seems impossible and then I love the sea but I have a deep sea phobia. The things that could make me happy can either frustrates or makes me happy. Yet the training teaches me to think of crazy solutions as well, and I began to ask from "why" is that my dream, it is impossible to "why not" get that dream plus "how" am I will going to make that possible. The answers to my new learned positive questions was indeed crazy as well. I keep it in my heart so I could feel the wanting so bad and so loud; it will make me move, it will force me to be resourceful, it will make me creative.

The Parrot's Peak of this mountain teaches me to face my fear of the uncertain. The treacherous path going up and down to that rocky part of the mountain requires clear thinking, right timing, more than enough courage to entrust my life to a piece of rope and a friend's arm. Yes, I'm not sure if I could make it, but if I don't try, the answer is an automatic "yes, I cant make it, which equals to "I wont be able to see the beauty of the other side or I will regret not trying it when I have a chance". Just like in life, there are times and situations we want to conquer but don't have enough courage, money, time and experience to do it. So for the longest time, we look at this dream for so long that we wasted more time starring at it rather than take our chance to try it. The "mountains and towers" I wanted to climb are now listed in my heart. I will try to reach them. One at a time. Never in a hurry. Maybe someday I could even move those mountains. Lately, I decided to seek a companion named Jesus Christ, He is a big help for He carry most of the yoke.

I witnessed that when people dream big it is because they have a big purpose for it. Sacrifices must be made and it doesn't requires an arm and a leg; just a motivated, loving heart willing to face the ugly part of the journey. They said enjoy life's journey, but some roads are not exciting that we must learn to focus on the beautiful destination rather than exhaust ourselves to our current bad situations. Big dreams require big commitment. And it is easier to share and be generous to others if you have a big payoff, isn't it?

Manila Ocean Park

This trip was my second time in this place. The first time was I visited it alone out of curiousity and this recent one was a family bonding and parent's meet up for my sibling and her boyfriend. The plan was a great success.

Though I managed to survive my first diving adventure, doing that again might require another tough decision. You see, I love adventures, Im happy with the sea (sand and bay part only) and fishes are the easiest pets for me coz they're not noisy, don't need a bath or get vaccine shots and only stays in their tanks throughout the day while Im at work. But swimming and anything that has to do with deep water scares the hell out of me and that means letting go as well all happy and incredible things I could see underwater and that was very frustrating.

Going to ocean parks like our very own Manila Ocean Park allows me to enjoy looking and interacting with sea creatures sans getting wet and troubles of dealing with my deep sea phobia. Still, nothing beats the adventure of an actual diving but for the less adventurous, strolling along these huge tanks, glass tube oceanarium and countless aquariums could give you that same happy feeling of seeing live and moving marine creatures. My top three attractions so far are:

First, the Oceanarium for its wide collection of marine creatures. Personal favorites are the seems-to-be-smiling sting-rays (info:their mouth actually looks like a smiling face), guitar sharks (I hope there's an "electric" guitar shark, LOL) and the king crab ( I'm fantasizing a long crab stick, sorry).

Second, the Jellies. Entering a particular room here full of glass tubes containing different species of jelly fishes is like entering a magical place. Plus the changing light and soothing music, it seems the jellies really dance. It calms mind and jellies seems instructing me to relax and chill just like their movement; unhurried and graceful. I want one of those glass tube in my house, LOL

Third, the Fish Spa. I highly recommend everyone to try this. The fish, Garra rufa aka doctor fish eats dead skin. The highlight of this experience is the ticklish sensation one could experience due to the biting of the fish but after a while it will become soothing. So hold on to your giggles, laugh or scream (reactions depend on your personality) and don't move much coz the fishes are sensitive to movements. The best way to attract them (oh yeah, you have to attract them first to cater you, LOL) is to sit still, don't move your toes, don't move the water, hold on your giggles and NEVER EVER SIT NEXT TO A GUY! I'm dead serious with my last advice that is why I wrote it in all capital letters. My father hates the idea of fishes biting his toes. Reluctant to try the fish spa; we even begged him to just sit in the pool coz we already paid for it but lo and behold he is the one who enjoys this much coz, well, all the fishes choose him, arrghhh!! He leaves the pool with big smile on his face and says its "bitin".

Palm Sunday 2012 (Araw ng Palaspas)

Palm Sunday is a Catholic feast re-enacting the triumphal entry of Jesus in the city of Jerusalem. As I was cleaning my computer files, I dug this photos I took during Palm Sunday mass in Quiapo and how I am always fascinated by this feast. I love the synchronized waving of the palm leaves, it is beautiful in all directions.

My mother keep these palm leaves after it is being blessed my the priest and somehow believe it it could ward off evil spirit away from our house. For years, she's been doing it and for years, nothing really bad happened to our home so her belief must have been true. Quiet different from the real purpose of palm during Palm Sunday which is to accept God but maybe mom believe the dancing palm does accepts blessing and that blessing is worth being used to and she chooses protection for her family. Maybe people have different ways of using God's blessings, isnt it.

Exotic Fruit Trees at Bliss Fruit Trees UP Diliman

I decided to buy another exotic tree after papa cut my precious macopa tree to end my uncle's complain that the tree's fallen leaves forced him to clean their yard everyday. Though I missed macopa a lot, I got interested to have a different tree this time. I searched on the internet and found a nearby nursery that sells double rootstock exotic plants.
My quest for my new darling tree(s) brought me to Bliss Fruit Trees, a plant nursery inside UP Bliss Compound in Quezon City. I met Bernardo Dizon lll, the young man behind this plant business. I told him what I want and he gives me suggestions on what suit best for the size of land available in our home's backyard and then I came up with two trees; lanzones and rambutan.

I am so confident these trees could thrive in our yard, given the fact that any seeds we plant or threw in the earth grows. I love plants but it is mother who has a tried and tested, effortless, natural or maybe magical "green thumb" that any plant she pinched and plant thrives abundantly. I never inherent the "magic touch" but I still love greens and if it could give me food and fruits, much better; I am willing to invest for a seedling.

While choosing for my seedlings, he gaves me lecture and insights on other exotic trees around the compound such as a tree named Abiu (Pouteria caimito) that has a Chesa (Pouteria campechiana) appearance but the flesh taste and looks like Caimito (Star apple) inside.

I purchased the two trees for Php 350.00 and both were double rootstock. I believe its another type of grafting were two root system support one tree trunk.

The funniest part of this adventure is that I was expecting a typical size seedling that I could conveniently place in a big plastic bag but instead I got two tall seedlings and I had to protect the branches from breaking because I rode a bus, LOL

Been living in Bagong Ilog, Pasig for almost three years because it is near my work but it's only this year that I discovered this kakanin shop that is worth mentioning in my blog; Aging's Food Delight aka Ang Original Suman na Espesyal sa Bagong Ilog.

If you are near this area, every morning you will observed the long carts full of kakanin being sold along the streets. For only

Php 5.00 per piece or slice, you can get a medley of different Filipino kakanin (sweet delicacies typically made of sticky rice, cassava or flour). But this blog will be dedicated solely for my recent yummy find, Aging's Food Delight Halayang Ube (Purple Yam Jam) wrapped in banana leaf.

For only Php 12.00 a piece you can enjoy this yummy halayang ube delicacy. It is made of grated purple yam tuber and rolled in toasted shredded coconut. A great almusal or meryenda for everyone. I love it so much because though its small in serving (according to my tummy's ability, LOL), each piece is made of unadulterated ube. The texture and taste reaffirmed my observations.

Good thing just a couple of months ago, they opened a store along the street. The first time I discovered it, I have to buy it in a small opening beside an overpass bridge where I was kinda reluctant to knock coz I'm not sure if they will allow me to buy or they are just placing the food in the table visible to overpass passers. But my curiosity, love for food and instict of whats yummy just by merely looking at it won and I knock and uttered "Pabili po" (English translate: I want to buy) that I discovered this yummy treat. See,sometimes all you need is guts and you'll discovered wonders, LOL.

They also sell suman; plain or medley with leche plan, halaya, pinipig or maja mais and pichi pichi. Another best-seller for my taste buds is their Leche Plan (Caramel Custard). This one is thicker than the typical custard we could buy at grocery stores and cheaper because it only costs Php80.00 a box in their store.

The Fascinating Art of Rock Balancing in the Philippines

I was introduced in this kind of art during my first hiking adventure in Mt. Damas where mountaineers uses the rocks near Ubod Falls to create their non-permanent art by stacking stones above each other, mostly its the smaller rock at the bottom and a bigger one on top. So imagine how hard it is to took photos beside these stones at they might fall and hurt me. Last August 5, while strolling around Tiendesitas in Pasig, I met Ildefonso Bandoma Vista, co-founder of Rock Balancing Philippines. He's so busy and focused finishing his art and I was having fun myself looking at his creation. This time I saw someone skillfully placing each stones above and beside each other without steel and glue to hold them together and as if the rocks and stones give him permission to do what's in his mind, they were totally obedient to him; thus an arc was made. His work is more intricate, more aww-worthy.

I joined the others nearby and played with the stones the group provided for guests to try. I coined the term "played" coz, well, we are incapable of simply stacking stones above each other. The stones slipped after placing the third or forth stones and though we are kinda frustrated, me and the others have fun and realized first hand that this art is not easy and though it looks simple, it requires analytical skills, some geometry, calculations, right manuever and some instinct. Yes, it is an art with mathematics. It requires comprehension coz one wrong moved or placing of stones could ruin the entire creations. Sometimes, you don't even want to breath, thinking a small movement might ruin everything. Not for short-tempered, clumsy and impatient person. Treat rock balancing the way you play chess- relax, precise and you can ruin it after you win.

That time I was hesitant to approach Boboy, as his was fondly called, because there are lots of photographers and people around. Anyway, my curiosity won over and when he stand up after finishing this creation, I approached him, introduced myself as a blogger and interested to know why is he doing it.

Allow me first to thank him for being accommodating and give time to answer my questions that I was be able to write this article.

In my short interview with him, I learned that Boboy owned a plant nursery business in Tanay and rock balancing is his way of expressing his advocacy of a balanced life and a balanced environment.
I never noticed the plant seedlings that was surrounding the area that time because its the rock art that got my full attention.

When you've finally found the relaxing, rewarding and fun part of it, you will look at every piece of stones, pebbles and rocks an interesting topic. These humble stones that we simply ignore when we are at the beach could be your medium for an art where people would be more than glad to have their photos taken beside it.

And don't blame me that I don't warned you but this will be addictive. Later and sooner, you will be upgrading your skills, creating more elaborate and intricate formations. And your art can't be copied by anyone - coz there will be no two natural stones alike, surely there will be no two rock balance creations that were symmetrically similar.

The Serenity Prayer

Long before I knew that a prayer is my direct communication/personal moment with my Creator and thus I don't need any script to do so; this ready-made prayer by theologian Reinhold Niebuhr is one of my favorite.

I have a copy of it in my wallet, securely tucked inside which I secretly recited during hard times of brokenness, anger, uneasiness, failure, hardship, dull days etc.

No wonder Alcoholics Anonymous loved this prayer so much that when a member bought this prayer to them in 1941, its co-founder and staffs like it a lot that they had it printed and gave it around.

The prayer consists of very select words that can summarize vast emotions depends on the issue of a person.

As for me, it works. Its so easy to memorize that when I am feeling bad, sad, misunderstood or I simply need to cool down or avoid conflicts, I recites the prayer and I get an instant relaxation. The words are simple and straight. Its also perfect during bout of pessimism to remind yourself that you are willing to understand something that you don't understand and so you need God's love and help for you cannot do it alone.

I am a Bread Monster

I'm a bread monster. I am, I confessed. I am a full-blooded Pinay but I could live eating breads for breakfast, lunch, merienda, dinner and mid-night snack while most of my kababayans prefer eating rice on their meals. As for me, just pair it with a cup of hot coffee and you won't hear a complain from me. I am willing to pay exorbitant price for a piece of bread, pastry or cake. Trust me, there are times I don't like it either, for it is against my frugal mentality but bread is an obsession and I am powerless over those glazey, mouth-watering, decadent, flour masterpiece over the glass shelves.

I will try my best not to eat them right away upon purchase and take pictures of it so I could make review. The problem it that, there are times I could no longer wait to return home so I could capture a good images of these yummy treats.

I'm not sure If I could maintain blogging this topic because of that predicament I stated above. However, I enjoyed eating them as much as I enjoy looking at their colors. I tried baking but its seems I am best at eating them rather than making them.

Without even understanding it, I could relate and I am having fun. Guess not all foreign music can do that.

Where To Buy Hydrotons or Expanded Clay Pellets for Your Hydrophonics Project

Since I experienced it myself how hard it is to find these expanded clay pellets also called Hydrotons or Hydrocorns, much more finding an offer with reasonable price, I will share where I bought mine.

I bought a kilo because it is needed for a hydroponics project called Window Farm (which I haven't started yet and not sure when to commence) that I watched in YouTube.

Searching the internet and our local trusted classified ads website, www.sulit.com.ph, sellers there offer it for a ridiculous price of Php 180.00 per kilo. Woah, that's expensive.

I first time I saw this pellets, it is use as a soil for Miura plants that were sold inside malls, where plants look like being dwarfed because of their small sizes.

Anyway, after purchasing it, I agreed why is it the suitable medium for such project. In my personal opinion, I like it because it is light weight, not messy compare to real soil and all you need to do is water it because it already contains the mineral nutrients that plants need to grow.

Lipote Berries (Syzygium curranii)

All throughout my life, I have known this tree as Duhat. That is what my parents told us it was. It is native in their hometown,in Catanduanes Island of Bicol and maybe that is where the seedling came from.

Just a couple of weeks ago, while browsing for plant nurseries where I could get some exotic fruit trees (I am really looking for grafted rambutan and lanzones. I consider them exotic though they are typical but seasonal fruits in the

Philippines), I read an article about this familiar fruit tree we have in our background. Long ago I realized this tree is not duhat. The two has a resemblance but has different size, taste and leaves. That day, while browsing around (thanks to Google), I learned that it is indeed another species of the Mrytle family- Syzygium curranii aka Lipote.

Every summer, the lipote tree blooms with hundreds of flowers that will become black berries. Our relatives like lipote as well that when we brought them some, we cut the entire branch and present it to them that way. Imagine receiving an entire branch of fruit, who wouldn't be happy?

Lipote is a sour fruit. And since I'm not a fan of anything sour, my mother makes a solution so I could enjoy this fruit- placing some sugar. She placed the lipote berries in a bottle, place some sugar in it and shake it until the sugar dissolved and purple juice came out. Sometimes, we substitute the sugar with rock salt when we want it a bit salty.

I had fond childhood memories of this procedure coz siblings and I often rushed at the bilao (a woven circular tray made of bamboo) where father typically place the lipote berries he harvested. I always chose the berries that were big and fallen from the branch because these were the ripe fruits.

Hurray! We have in our backyard an exotic fruit you could not simply find everywhere in the metro.

Going back again to Google out of sheer curiosity, I read that this unknown and ignored fruit has a medicinal property that could help reduce incidence of hypertension, high blood cholesterol, heart disease and even cancer. I'm amazed!

For those interested to have a seedling of Lipote, please feel free to leave a comment. Every summer it blooms in full force that seedlings sprout abundantly in our backyard but simply end up drying or dying coz there is no place for another tree. I even planned of bringing some berries that I could plant in the mountain during my next hike.

An unannounced office pictorial introduced me to this product when I forgot to bring my own lipstick and end up borrowing my office mate's typical-looking lipstick- Ever Bilena Evera Magic Lipstick with Vitamin E.

During one of my hike. The lipstick stays the whole day. I love it!

For lipstick addict like me who rely only in lipstick; sans other beauty products to prettify, don't get discouraged when you see this lippie as it comes in plain white tube and wrapped in clear plastic which make choosing for colors easier and make you doubt even more. I got mine from a drugstore near my office and I admit, I underestimated it because of its simple packaging and very cheap price of Php70.00 per tube.

This lippie's power lies in its staying power. Yes, it stays for long hours that you could swipe it in the morning and forget retouching your lips the whole day. Yes, you read it right. You can do your stuffs the whole day, eat and drink everything you like and you'll be surprised that at the end of the day (even after brushing your teeth) there still a pinkish or reddish tint in your lips.

Comes with different colors that turns to different shades when applied to your lips; hence it is called magic lipstick, surely every girls could find a shade you could loved. My favorite choice is Ever Bilena Evera Magic Lipstick (Strawberry) because its pink shade compliments my facial skin color and my lips.

I have another branded and expensive lipstick that has a weird scent and internationally claimed to have that color-staying formula yet it always end up frustrating me. Thankfully, when I learned this Ever Bilena lipstick product, I don't have to suffer anymore with that old lipstick's unpleasant scent (and price). It is not matte, no glitters or too glossy and has Vitamin E to ensure that our lips stays soft and moisturized.

I always bring and used this Ever Bilena Evera Magic Lipstick on trips and events I want to skip retouching my makeup such as when I am hiking, swimming or having a booze session with my friends. The lipstick assures me I don't look pale in my travel photos which is important to me coz I am using my photos in my blog. I am using it now on regular day at the office and it looks great as well. Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage Shrine, Antipolo City: A Journey of Faith, Cashew Nuts, Suman and Stained-Glass Windows

Antipolo Shrine- Every month of May, this small shrine was flocked with thousands of devotees to pay homage to Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage. It is considered a big event within the localities that will be part of the pilgrimage, as the people tend to walk their way up to the hills of Antipolo where the shrine is situated, famously known as "Alay Lakad' to commemorate the transfer of the image to its permanent sanctuary.

Believed to be miraculous, the Marian image, popularly known as the Virgin of Antipolo, finds its home at this small yet lovely shrine surrounded by stained-glass windows that really fascinated me.

History has it that the image kept the perilous voyage of Governor Tabora and his men safe amidst dangerous water and fire aboard their ship that when they finally arrived at the Port of Manila, the Governor calls for a celebration and thus, the image has been accepted as the Patron Saint of Travelers.
This will be my second time in this place and the only time I was able to bring with me a camera to capture the interiors of the shrine. I'm a Catholic by faith and church-hopping is one of my favorite past time.

Before going home, I visited the stalls just outside the shrine and got some cashew nuts and suman; a local delicacy made of sticky rice wrapped in coconut leaves. Never leave Antipolo without grabbing some of this product. Aside from the shrine, this sweet treats make Antipolo famous.

The pure white ceiling is the perfect contrast for the gold-colored main altar and colorful stained glass.

The Joy of DIY and an Advice to Parents with Kids Curious About Everthing

I'm not a newbie in making different crafts. The fascination for creating stuffs has been an obsession since childhood.

I could vividly remember breaking my toys to pieces just to see what’s inside and putting them back together. Some returned to original design but some has been upgraded using other toy’s part and a dash of my creativity.

Mother was always in rage for the messy room and broken toys. Now, maybe she understands where those messy moments evolved.

I could now stare at plain, boring, sometimes old items and able to create something prettier out of it. I overhaul it, twist this and that part, extract the creative juice out of me, polish their edges, gather materials that synchronize, get the colors, sizes, and texture that match together, make a useless now- useful again.

I make accessories and clothes that fits my style. If I want a certain design in the magazine or malls, I could make them in half the price and always have extra to share to my siblings and friends. If I want a very unique one, I dug deep in my imaginative mind and invent a stuff that was totally just for me. That's the sweetest part of it. Owning a piece that everyone don't have or could not have, unless they copied it from you.

And the years of just plain play turns out to be income generating as well, I could sell some of them. During Elementary days, I got additional baon out of my skills and talent. But the true joy comes from these two:

1. I could give them as a material gifts to others, and

2. I now teach the skills to people of all ages and they find joy in it, the very same joy I experienced.

I promise I won’t ignore the gifts that God has bestowed on me. I really dream one day I could make a good business out of it. I just don’t know yet how to. It might be another part of the journey and I am opening the door to this stage.

An Advice to Parent:

I am not a parent yet, but if I someday I could have my own kids running around and they choose to break their toys, I believe I could be understanding. I'll run to toy store and introduce them to Lego.

If they play make believe that they were painters and color the floor as well, I will applause and tell them "your getting good at it, just keep the colors on the paper and we will post it in the wall later, okay sweetie?".

If you buy a book with pictures and it end up like a coloring book, be very glad, they find it interesting. Kids were busy creatures, they don't have time for nonsense.

If the kids like to play the garden soil and scrutinize every leaves while you are gardening, be ready to share the garden someday coz you got a gardening buddy that will look after your plant and a bonding activity for both of you as well.

When I was a kid, age seven and mother brought me to my free summer painting workshop, we both thought I'm was too young for this kind of activity. But the workshop was packed with kids younger than me and the master really told us that I am too late for it.

Later in life I realize the meaning of his words. That definitely, no one is too old to learn anything but a "gift" is something that should be developed while one is still young. It must be acknowledge. Some people see only the "potential" in young people. They failed to see the "gift" that is blossoming in the young mind and body of a child.

Let children be children. Allow them to play, get hurt a little, socialize, grow, explore. Cultivate their gifts but never over-stressed or force them.

In a mid of their life, (for me, at my late twenties) a young man or woman will be thankful at your feet for everything you have done for them. And in front of a loving and supportive parents, a successful man or woman will humble himself and will always be your baby.

Churros City

Bumped on this unfamiliar stall while window-shopping around Market Market Taguig. Surprise to learn its product is a churros, a twisted dough that is deep-fried and dipped in chocolate. It been ages since I tasted one and glad to find one in a convenient place.

Not the authentic churros though but for the price of only Php 35.00 for five small churros and a chocolate dipped, not bad for a typical day merienda. I thought they'll give me a hot chocolate-drink (tablea tsokolate) but instead a melted- chocolate that taste good but should be consume right away or it will harden and you won't enjoy it with the churros anymore. Since I take-out my order, I had to melt the chocolate by sitting the cup in hot water.

Mt. Mag Asawang Bato and Masasa Beach of Tingloy Island, Batangas

Summit of Mt. Mag-Asawang Bato at Tingloy Island! Rock n Roll!

The group celebrated their second anniversary and choose the mountain at Tingloy Island for the said special day.

How to get there + fare:

1. Ride Alps Bus at Cubao Bus Station (back of Farmers Plaza) to Balagtas, Batangas ( Php 165.00)

2. From Balagtas Batangas, ride a jeepney to Anilao Mabini Port (Php 35.00)

3. Ride a boat to Tingloy Island Port (Php 60.00)

4. Day 1: From Port of Tingloy, ride a tricycle going to jump-off location Brgy. Masasa (Php 15.00)

(Day 2: Tricycle from Bgry.14 to Port of Tingloy (Php 10.00)

Total Fare: Php 545.00

The sweetest part of the journey for me was riding a boat and exploring the coastline of Batangas. It is an hour ride and I had this awesome view of the beaches, hotels, the blue sea, waves, mountains, other islands and clear summer sky.

The people we meet at Tingloy Island greeted us warmly when we arrived. It is not my first time in Batangas and I already wandered several of the beaches and places of the province but I never knew this island existed just until that day. Talking about being a stranger in your own country, worst part, being near the area several times and never heard of it.

The tricycle drove us to Brgy. Masasa, our jump off location. We meet some folks and told us that not far ahead is a beach. We actually have the mountain beside us but the group agreed to visit the beach first, wait for the sun to go down and does a night trek instead.

As I am writing this blog, I could still remember the joy I felt when I dipped in the water of Masasa beach. The water is inviting and is very clear. After two feet away from the part coral-part sand shore, the sea stretches with a sand bed and it’s very pleasant just to stand there or swim. Sea anemone grows in the rocks just four feet away from the shore and with a goggle I was able to see medium size fishes swimming alongside me.

By late afternoon we started the hike. Two local guys volunteered to guide us because they feared we might get lost and wandered in circle around to what they believe is a mystic mountain. Locals believed the mountain was inhabited by mystical creature such as Tikbalang (half-human, half-horse creature) that likes to lead travellers astray. We refused at first coz we believe we don’t need to but allow them later to join us (reason: they were very persistent!!).

The real beauty of Tingloy Island greeted us at the break of dawn. From the summit, we have the view of the whole island. Large commercial ships travel the water, and the small fishing boats became white dots in the vast blue ocean.

The landmark of Mt. Mag asawang Bato are the two big stones located at the summit. I was not able to climb the stones but according to the locals, at the top of these big stones is a giant clam. They told me I could even sit of the shell coz it’s really huge and if I’m lucky enough, maybe I could find a giant pearl nearby. People believed that the island was under the sea before and sprang up as what it is now. That's the explanation for the giant clam on top of the mountain. I somehow hate myself for not climbing the stones and not able to see the said giant clam.

The mountain has an estimated 290 meters elevation from sea level (including the height of the rocks in the summit). Our group started the hike from the beach so I believed we started at sea level. The only concern when hiking the mountain, based on my observation, are the forked trails which kinda confusing sometimes. The locals used the mountain for their livelihood and so they created countless trails. Loose rocks and soil were another factor that slows down our pacing We really planned a back track route coz we believe we could return to Brgy. Masasa. Instead it became traverse coz we descend on another barangay. Good things it’s much near the port and we are able to catch the last boat. If not, we will have to wait another day or charter a boat to bring us to Mabini port.

I am anticipating Tingloy Island to be the next destination for fun and recreation. It could compete to Puerto Galera in terms of beauty and rallied along side with Anilao for its diving spot potential. If you are seeking for an adventure in an unexploited beach, crystal blue water and quite place to just relax plus an easy mountain hike adventure - visit Tingloy Island. An extra one hour boat travel is worth the beauty it can offer.

Special Concerns:

1. Never listen to the locals instruction of always turning right when trekking the mountain. Not a very helpful instructions as for our experience.

2. Unless your an experienced mountaineer and won't have issue going in circles, I don't advised a night trekking. Forked trails are quite confusing.

3. Bring a sturdy rope just in case you happened to choose the steeper trail.

4. Asked the schedule departure of the boat at Tingloy Port. In our case, we are informed that the last trip was 9am but changed to 8:30am the following day. Good thing the man we met the day before took our phone numbers and texted us that there was a change in schedule. Give sufficient time allowance on your descend. Tingloy is an island so even if one gets lost and circle around the mountain, you are still on the said island. The only problem is how far are you from the port to catch the boat. If your missed the last trip, you can charter a boat for Php2000.00 and above.

5. Respect the locals belief that the mountain is mystic. Just listen, politely say thank you and enjoy the trail.

6. And lastly, this is for the gifted people like me who already acknowledge their unique gift of paranormal vision- be ready to see some apparition but keep it to yourself if it doesn't mean harm. Fear is something you don't want to share to fellow mountaineers specially when you are having a night trek. I managed to enjoy the night trek by positioning myself at the middle of the group and keeping my pace with the rest. Never saw the tikbalang the locals are bragging. Wonder if there really is one. But the giant clam they are talking, I'll search for it the next time I return.
