Please excuse the folds, but I was lazy and just let it hang down . The fabric isn't that blotchy looking. It's a shadow. In all honesty, the shadow spot comes closer to the real color.

Since I started this sampler, Charlotte Clayton is the one and only I'm working on. Although there is a bit of muttering coming from the craft room at the back of the house, where I think Frederick is complaining a bit about the lack of attention to his already finished partner Fredericka. But yeah, you know how men are, they always have something to mutter. I rather stay in the lounge with Charlotte and we're having some fun together.

Here she is. Glad that the over one stitching is over and done with.

For the rest there is not much new to tell. It's hot on some days, pouring rain on others. We're busy to get everything ready and done by the end of the month because on the 23rd of January we'll take the caravan and hit the ferry for a month of vacation in Tasmania. Really looking forward to that. Tasmania is new to me and I think it will be beautiful. A month of hiking.

Taking with me "Christmas Garden" by Blackbird Designs :) - if I don't change my mind...lol.

Anyway, gotta run. Charlotte is calling, and she can be rather impatient at times. So I better go and play a bit with her.

It's amazing what one can achieve if one's computer is having problems and shuts down all the time. When not being able to sit much at the computer, miraculously stitching seems to speed up. No clue how that comes. Still baffles me...lol.

On Christmas Eve I traditionally start something new. This year it will be the Charlotte Clayton Sampler from the North West Sampler Guild. I'm looking SO forward to stitch this beautiful sampler. I lost count of the times that I went to Margaret's blog to drool over her Charlotte Clayton.

And there is good news on the puppy front. Ashley sort of recovered. She will now need heart meds twice daily but all by all she is doing fine. Not that she got spoiled. Spoiled might really not be the right word....lol. It's something beyond that. Oh well, I'm just glad that she's better. Here she is with my aunt.

After coming home from Germany, my husband and I took the dogs and went up the coast for some fishing and walking. Of course we treated both dogs with anti tick drops. Sadly that didn't work. Ashley got 3 ticks, and barely survived that. Because these ticks were paralysis ticks, and they do have a rather deadly result for dogs. Only an anti tick serum might save an infected dog. We had to rush Ashley to the vet were she got the serum and was hospitalized. Being back home for now, she is still sick, has still trouble breathing and walks as if drunk, but she will recover. Although it all has worsened her heart, because from now on she needs daily medication for her heart. :(

Sadly enough I have to say good bye to blogging for a while. My stepfather passed away, which was rather unexpected, and I am in a hurry to fly out to Germany to attend the funeral and give my mother a helping hand for couple of weeks.
It's unlikely I will be able to be online often, although I take my laptop with me. No clue when I'll be back and be able to visit yahoo groups, forums and blogs. My mother is 82 years old and has first priority in this sad time. Not sure what to say else, it's all quite upsetting.

On a more cheerful note, I just drew a name for the chart and Giovanna is the winner. Congrats :)

It's a month ago since my last post and it was a pretty busy month. First my husband had a surgery followed by a rather painful recovery. Thankfully he's better now and back at work. Then I got a nasty eye infection and looking at a monitor was not an option. And above all I'm a bit stressed because my step father is since 3 weeks in ICU and the situation is worrying.

I'm so very sorry that I hardly visited any blogs, yahoo groups or bulletin boards, but I just don't function well under stress. Things that come easy normally tend to get too much and I fall back to the basics.

On to more cheering things....

There is not much else to to report. Except maybe that we spent the weekend in Melbourne looking for cars for my oldest daughter Saskia who got her drivers license last week. We got her in the end a nice car of her choice and she's happy as can be. Of course I forgot to take a picture. But she comes home in the weekend and we'll fix that then.

Funny thing is that I joked she should get a red car (my favorite color) and she insisted that she would NOT buy such hideous thing!!!! It was silver or black! She ended up with a red one...LOL...and I'm innocent (for once) She chose it all by herself. And I was even polite enough to not point it out (YET)

Getting very close to finishing Amsterdam. Not sure if I make it this month, but I can smell the end!!!

Lately I'm really getting into reproduction samplers and spending hours of admiring those on other blogs. Dreaming of having a sampler wall on my own.
That's why I'm so exited to start Mary Allen soon, also known as the Village Square Sampler, designed by Samplers Remembered. I'm drooling over this sampler now for quite a while.

And here the fabrics I considered.

Thank you for all for your encouraging comments about the missing packet. Which has arrived meanwhile. Without even making a trip over Europe. It must have taken a break somewhere...lol. Not complaining here. I'm just so very happy it arrived and didn't get lost.
The new BBD chart called Summer is just lovely. And I can finally go on with the last part of the Mystery sampler as well. But I think this week Amsterdam is calling my name loudly.

Last week I mainly stitched on Frederika, who now has a border. No sign of herself yet.
It's the first time for me to stitch on 40ct and after a day of getting used to it, it's working out fine. And the NPI silks are gorgeous to work with. Although I won't abandon DMC and other cotton threads completely, I'm pretty sure I will stitch more often with NPI. My husband just hopes that there isn't a new addiction looming. (He might be out of luck though)

Frederika is my comfort food....sort of. Because I might have lost couple of charts in the mail. (insert pout here): part 3 of the mystery sampler, the newest BBD Summer and a LHN ornament. Lost or landed in Austria. Fingers crossed that it took a trip over Europe. Oh well, there are worser things in life. Can't think of anything right now off the top of my head, but I'm sure there are. Yes I know I'm a sook...lol.

Instead of grabbing some ~~more~~ chocolate I decided to stop stalking the poor postie and start something new. I have a basket full of kitted up projects just waiting for me, and the choice fell on Frederika by Carriage House Samplings.

Stitching her on 40ct Vintage Pearled Barley with the recommended NPI silks. It's my first time using NPI and I love it. That's seriously gorgeous stuff. Almost better then chocolate. Almost.

Another thing I'm pleased with is that I framed two pieces. At first I wasn't overly happy with one of the frames (I ordered both online) but after a while it grew on me and now I do actually like it.
Framing is less easy then I thought it would be, it took me ages to get the fabric stretched and straight. Finding Vonna's tutorial helped a lot in the end. Still, there is a learning curve involved (it makes now somehow sense why framers ask so much money for it) But never the less, I'm determined to learn and will try it again next time. But only small to medium sized pieces.

It's finished!!! Having here a major happy dance and can't wait to go to Melbourne and choose a frame for it.
That was an addictive piece to stitch and I loved every moment we spent together. Tomorrow the chart will start it's travel back to it's rightful home. I'm still so very grateful that Carol allowed me to stitch this beautiful chart. Some stitching friends are really generous.

I did made couple of changes though.
The Shaker White didn't show off as well as I hoped on the fabric. After playing around with some options I found one that worked well for me. For the flowers I used a single strand of WDW Confederate Grey and did a half cross stitch over the existing one.
The house is stitched as charted but back stitched with 2 strands of Sage and the roof with 2 strands of Gingersnap.
And I mirrored some of the birds.

Birds of a Feather Part 2 and other things

Here is part 2 of this Mystery sampler all finished up. Although I did change the eyes of the birds a bit. They were meant to be a straight stitch, but somehow that didn't do it for me After frogging and replacing them with French Knots I was happy again. Can't wait for the last part to be released.

For the rest I did mainly stitch on Amsterdam

Lisa stitched for me a gorgeous snowman ornament for an exchange at "Hooked on Exchanging". It's lovely stitched and finished. Lisa stitched a design by SanMan Originals on Summer Sky Jobelan. I love it.

And look at the backside. Isn't that a darling embellishment?

Two blooming hearts

Two blooming hearts,that's right. Both are lovely enough to make my heart spitter spatter. Little things can exite me...lol.

First I started "Where my Heart Blooms" by Blackbird Designs and loving it. It's such a lovely design and a pleasure to stitch.

After ordering and waiting for ages for the recommended fabric to arrive I decided I don't like it. So I went into my stash, grabbed some Belfast Light Mocha, made some week coffee and dyed it myself. . Although I'm quite pleased with the result, I hope the white will show off enough. If not, I can backstitch it can't I? At least I'm happy with it...lol

And the next heart IS a blooming heart. Isn't it lovely? I got that heart from Sarah who stitched it for me for the Prairie Schooler Seasonal exchange. I LOVE IT. It's gorgeous, from front and behind. Receiving this gorgeous heart surely made my day bright. Sarah took the design from PS "Garden Blooms" and the tulip looks just fantastic on the heart. Love that little bee too.

And at last one more thing that made my day. A new flower frog for my scissors. It's not a new one of course, it's an old one, and I was after one just like that for a while. Found it at the other end of the world..in Canada. Featured with some of my newer scissors....

I surely am on my way to Amsterdam...half way to be exactly. While stitching away I just realized that I was just a tad over the half way mark. Needless to say that this made my day!!!

I took also part of two exchanges at Hooked on Exchanges...and both pieces arrived at their new home :)

Birds of a Feather Part one finished!!!

While watching tennis it got finished. It was so much fun to stitch. This little sampler is rather addictive and I'm still in love with the colors. Now I have to wait until the second part gets released. I'm SO curious. Thank god I'm not impatient (sorta...lol). Is it the June 10th yet???? No? What about now?

Finally the supplies for "Birds of a Feather" together with part one of this mystery sampler arrived last Friday and I could make a start while watching the French Open. Tennis is one of the few things that keep me glued to the tv. I'm so glad I started this Mystery sampler. I really do like everything of it. Love the chart - love the fabric - love the colors. It's stitched with 2 strands on 35ct Weeks Dye linen (Confederate Grey) with Weeks Dye floss. WDW linen becomes fast my favorite linen. It just feels gorgeous soft.

My plans to start "Where my Heart Blooms" are on hold until the fabric arrives. The fabric I had in mind for it just didn't work and so I went ahead and ordered the recommended fabric. Which will take a bit to arrive here in Australia.

And I JUST got a surprise from Cindy. She sent me a lovely chart and some gorgeous fabrics. How nice is that? Thank you so very much Cindy. Loving it all. :)

My heart is really going to bloom and it’s bouncing in anticipation. “Where my Heart Blooms” is the name of the chart that arrived yesterday on my doorstep. One of the 2 charts that I so badly want to stitch but couldn’t get my hands on. And amazingly a fellow stitcher and new friend sent me a message that she will borrow me the chart. That is SO generous. Even more if you consider that Carol doesn’t even know me, and still trusts me enough to send me this darling OOP chart. I’m still in awe about that. And so very thankful.

While Carol is visiting Europe, her chart is on vacation with me in Australia. I’m babysitting it so to speak. We will have some quality fun time here – that’s a sure thing! All threads are already ordered and lots of different fabrics fondled to find the right one.

Does anyone can give me an indication about what DMC color is close to “Korty’s Special Blend” from R&R Reproductions ?

Also…getting a bit bored by what I’m stitching lately, I subscribed to a Mystery Sampler. It’s called Bird of a Feather from “With thy Needle”. I saw the border of part one and was sold. Plus… I LOVE LOVE LOVE birds, which means it really can’t go wrong. It's a no brainer. Right now I’m stalking the postman daily awaiting the chart and materials.

Except running up and down here like a chicken without head I did manage to put some stitches in. First of all there are 3 ornaments… (I’m having a thing with ornaments at the moment…lol)

Come in and grab a seat....in my new Stitching Chair!!! While I do the happy dance in front of you. I'll serve a cup of coffee or tea to calm your nerves after enduring that sight....lol....I promise.

It's officially called a Garden chair, but that's not going to happen. Even the chair comes with a little umbrella, we're staying in the lounge with our cuppas, as they call it here in Australia. Is it called a cuppa too at your place or is it something Australian? No clue actually.

The stitching was finished since quite a while but it took me until yesterday to finally put it all together. Officially the little chair has a draw at the front, but after finishing it, I decided that I like it better without a draw and changed it.

Funny detail: It was a Mothers Day gift from my husband in 2009, and got finished on Mothers Day 2011. And I didn't even realize that until it was finished.

And now a confession. I feel very ashamed.....Last week I was looking around in my lounge and a beautiful little pillow that Joke made for me caught my eye. At once I felt my heart sinking in my shoes....did I ever post about that on my blog???? No I didn't. Which is terrible rude of mine. I sent already an email to Joke with my apologies and do it here again. I'm SO very sorry. Joke must have thought I didn't like it. But I ADORE it. It has a place of honor in our lounge in full view. So here is a picture of the lovely Reindeer Ornament Pillow that Joke made for me:

Stash-a-holics Anonymous unite!!

Ok, let me bite the bullet here. My name is Gabi and I'm an addict. My drug of choice is called stash,
I do collect scissors, fabrics, embellishments, and charts of several designers. Just for the fun of it.
But what I have to stop is collecting OOP charts! That is becoming ridiculous.

What about you? Are you a stash-a-holic too? Do you collect things? Or do you buy just what you need only? If you're a collector too....what do you collect?
If you're like me, we should set up a group together for Stash-a-holics Anonymous and have a meeting to support each other at the nearest LNS. That's the right place to be for us isn't it??? Must be right...sounds so wonderfully right to me.

What brought me to this admission of guilt? I sat down in front of my filing cabinet where I have stored my charts. I needed to stitch a PS design for an exchange and had a look through at my almost complete collection of PS charts and realizing what a shockingly enormous amount of money and time I spent on purchasing OOP charts that I then simply filed away. I told my husband that there wouldn't be any loss, because I could stitch it and then sell it for the same price as I bought it for. Right. THAT is never going to happen....lol. I'm not selling any of them!!! Thankfully it's my own pocket money I spent, otherwise I would have a problem at the home front.

My newest resolution is: No OOP charts anymore!!! I will not spend that much money any more on charts. To pay for a chart couple of times more what the original value was just because it's out of print is ridiculous. Certainly if you consider that there are so much wonderful designers bringing out fantastic new designs each year. Sigh. Unless of course I find "Where my heart blooms"....or "Ellen Birdseye" .. ...I'm an addict after all.

And after I was finished with these thoughts I did some stitching as well:

First of all I did indeed stitch a Prairie Schooler design after all but cannot show it yet. It's for an exchange and will get send off next month. Need to give it a finishing touch first anyway.

I made couple of changes and used CC Tartan,Plaid, CC Sassy Brass, GA Dark Chocolate and a limited edition green (Gecko) from GA instead of the recommended DMC.

The only changes I made here were to use DMC 814 instead of the read copper. I also swapped the colors around on the pot and made it golden with a red bow instead of the other way around.

Amsterdam update and other things :)

As said last time...I lost a color for Amsterdam. In addition to that I ran out of a color. Which never happened to me before. And no answer to any of my emails from Thea Gouverneur or whoever works for her. That they don't do a thing of a lost color, ok, that's my fault, but running out of a color already, that's rather uncommon. And shouldn't happen for a rather pricey kit.
To say that I wasn't thrilled is the understatement of the year. But then I thought...I don't have the time nor the patience for that type of negativity in my life.

I still thank the day where I bought a DMC color card with real thread. I sat down (for 2 days!!!) and matched each and every of the 124 colors (125=braid) After that it was easy to determine the missing color. It had to be DMC 640 or 642. 642 was another symbol already so it had to be DMC 640. Phew.
Oh...couple of days later I found the missing color back...LOL. Doesn't take away I ran out of DMC 839 though.

If anyone stitching this design ever runs out of a color and into the same problem of non existing customer service, give me a shout. I'll be able to help..lol...I matched them all.

Enough of that....I managed to put a few stitches in it and will enjoy the rest of this beautiful design

There was one thing that really brightened up my day: a darling ornament sent to my by Elisa. Her stitching and finishing are just gorgeous. LOVE it. I was her partner in the Hooked on Exchange Quaker ornament round and was very lucky she got my name. :)

Lastly, I stitched a little design and am for once clueless how to finish it. Normally things do "speak" to me and while doing I find somehow the way of finishing, embellishments etc. But this one refuses to do so. I love it, but don't know how to finish it.

Do you know normally before hand how to finish something, or do you keep it a bit open like me and things "speak" to you as well? Or am I just plain crazy....lol.
