The forgotten blog....

2010-10-08T21:00:00.000-07:00

I have to admit that when logging in just now I was sick to my stomach. To make matters worse I lost my password. So embarrassing. Has it really been that long since my last post? I am so ashamed of myself. Where is my dedication girl.

Wait wait for it.

I'll tell you where I've been, chasing an 2 yr.old around up and down the house , carpooling to baseball and trying to stay on top of homework. WOW Ooo is school back in session. This year the work load has increased rapidly. Have you seen these books are kids are carrying around, crazy.

So my poor blog sat on the shelf taunting me like those dang DVR workout recordings .

While laying in bed last night I said how can I maintain the zoo and actually sit down for 30 minutes. Do I have the time. And poof it was laying right on my bedside table. My beloved binder of tricks. It is my official oh my goodness you did that or really you can do that go to. And you all know what I'm talking about. I am in again, 100%. The plan is to start sharing and hopefully you all will share too.
So lets say hello to good times , good laughs and frugal finds.

Back to school yeah!

2010-08-24T18:35:00.000-07:00

How sweet this last week has been with the boys at school. At first I did not want to let go of my late nights and breakfast at 10. Not to mention my beach days at Zuma. But when I look around my house and see what I have accomplished in the last five days I am amazed. My school flag is flying high. So over the summer my goal was to put my Martha apron on and get down to work. I wanted to redo dining room table and chairs ( FYI as of yesterday 2 are done!), Mod podge my black bookcases ( 80% done 100% questionable) and finish my babies shabby chic girlie room ( its been a 2 year process). And lastly dust off my scrap booking adventures. Which I have not touched in 2 years. Maybe just maybe I'll start making those great photo books. Just thinking of pulling out all the paper, glue, stickers and pictures gives me anixety. So lets get to the the exciting pictures.

How great are those gonna look! Now I just need to decide what to do with those cushions. Did I mention that I received all 8 of these chairs for FREE.

Next project:

So it tooks me days to find a happy worn look. Thanks to the previous owner for using latex paint, uck. I needed a free fix for the inside so I mod podge some scrap book paper. Lastly I have to add the chicken wire to the door, decide if I'm gonna hang hooks inside, or do shelves, and what to do about the clock feature.

Mom can we have Pizza!

2010-08-07T06:00:00.000-07:00

For some strange reason my boys relate sleep overs with pizza. Why? I have no idea. I didn't start it and I really don't want to pay for it. Not to mention my better half had to give up pizza along time ago. Thank you lactose. Put back to pizza dilemma I had to come up with an alternative. Cost of delivery for me is no less than $30.00, buying premade pizza shell cost only $5.00 but has ingredients I can't even pronounce. So I have finally found a great pizza dough recipe. We always make the normal cheese and pepperoni but my chicken barq pizza comes in a close second. FYI this recipes freezes!

Pizza Dough

3 1/2 Cups Flour ( Wheat is great)

1 cup Warm Water

2 Tbsp. Yeast

2 Tbsp. Honey

1/4 cup olive oil

Put in mixer, till ball form. Place in bowl on counter. Cover with warm damp towel. Watch how fast it rises. Once done divide into two. Now you are ready to make pizza ( about 8inch). To spice up the crust I sprinkle garlic, basil, and a drizzle of olive oil before putting sauce on.

Corn Dogs

2010-08-06T15:06:00.001-07:00

My kids love and I mean love corn dogs. The boys had mastered the microwave by 4. And now my little princess points to the fridge and say dawgs mommie. What did I create. So if you've been reading my blog you know I am trying my best to avoid process foods. Thank you Jamie! FYI Pledge here. So how could I take their beloved food away. I knew with a lot of recipes out there I could find one that doesn't have 50 ingredients in them.

Recipe:

Hot dogs or Turkey/Chx dogs

1/4 cup Corn Meal

1/4 Tsp. Salt

1 1/4 cup Milk (any type)

1/2 cup Flour Whole Wheat

1 Tbsp. Sugar

1/2 Tsp. Baking powder

Wood Sticks (Popsicles do great)

Mix all together. Save a little flour to roll hot dogs in.

If mixtures is not thick enough(think oatmeal) add corn meal.

First insert stick, roll in flour, then roll in mixture. Repeat over and over. Make sure fryer is hot. Should only take a minute to brown.

Yummy! I have experimented with adding chili powder, cheese, garlic, mustard to mixture. In the picture you can see I cut my dawgs up, so much easier to freeze. My boys call them corn pups.

Summer Nights at Cold Stone Creamery

2010-07-26T08:18:00.000-07:00

As that school date inches closer and closer to us. I feel the need to savor every second and not let a summer night pass by. One of our favorite night outings is going to the ice cream parlor.Well that is what I called it growing up and it sounds so simple. Growing up my childhood favorite was Rocky Rode, yummmm. Luckily I have passed down the love of dairy to all my children. If my boys had a choice they'd always pick Cold Stone Creamery. However my wallet says different, but with this coupon my kids can eat as much chocolate ice cream they want. So take a trip out tonight and have a cone under the stars.

Saturday's Cooking

2010-07-17T06:00:00.000-07:00

I have to admit that if you opened my freezer you'd found only otter pops. Why you might ask? Because Saturday is our day to cook up a months worth of grub. I hope the boys will be up to the task. So far the menu consists of homemade corn pups, pancakes(w/ chocolate chips), pizza dough, spaghetti sauce, and grilled chicken. Wow maybe that's a little to ambitious. So I'll keep you posted with our latest pictures.

Summer Days

2010-07-16T16:28:00.000-07:00

My soon to be 9 yr. old stormed into the house yesterday. I asked what is going on with you? He said you know so & so said that school is starting really soon. And I haven't got to do everything I wanted yet. I need more time. Now keep in mind this is a guy that over schedules he's play times. I quietly tried to hold the smile back but my heart broke too. I don't want to see him go to the 4th grade just as I don't want to start packing 4 lunches daily. I live for summer. I mean who doesn't like that our patios & porches turn into kitchens, kids play outside till 9 , stay up sleep in is the norm, and wearing shoes are optional. So in honor of summer I promise to stop and smell the roses a little more. And just maybe go to the water park more. ( Did that really come from my mouth!)

To many more days of my feet in the sand

Back to School Sales

2010-07-15T12:00:00.000-07:00

I took a quick shopping trip out the other day and noticed every store has HUGE sales going on. And if you don't already know I never say go shopping. Frugal is the key. Free is even better. If you don't already know now is the time to stock up on many items if the budget allows it. So here's some great deals you want to snag while you can. Remember to shop before the weekend, so you don't end up with slim pickings.

1. School supplies. Staples offers lots of FREE items weekly as long as your a member to the rewards program. So by the time school hits you are set. Walgreen's/ Rite Aid has crazy deals with their in store coupons. Which by the way can be combined with a manufacturers coupon. And as always Walmart has items as low as $.15cents.

2. TOYS TOYS TOYS! Buy now for the holidays and birthdays. If you shop at Toy R US now you will benefit greatly with their 75% off sale. Even video games, DVDs, accessories, clothes, food. You name it. Go early for selection. Target also has a big clearance on toys now. Remember shop before the weekend.

3. School clothes. I'd shop departments for the best deals. Most have 25% to 50% off already reduced merchandise. And for my frugals if you shop JCP you can get an additional 15% off by calling in for a quick survey(must have receipt). I personally never buy new shorts for the boys to start school in, they have enough. But I look for deals on T-shirts b/c they wear year round. Just layer them with long sleeves. Shoes, pjs, and belts were really reduced also.

If I find another deals I'll let you know. Make sure to follow me!

Speaking about my family being fed, I have to update you on my garden! I started my container garden in April. To date I have tomatoes (sprout), Thyme, Oregano beets, and green beans. FYI green beans the fastest growing things I have ever seen. Thanks all to watching Food Revolution. It truly opened my eyes to what our kids are eating and just how much I depend on others for food. So I started my garden. Keep your fingers crossed that I actually bring fresh food to our table soon.....

Miss Emma

Tori Spelling's Little Maven Line

2010-06-26T21:16:00.000-07:00

I just had to share with everyone that we won! I can't believe it. O.k. slow me down let me back up and say we entered Little Maven's Earth Day T-shirt Contest back in April. If you wondering what is Little Maven got to do with Tori Spelling . It's her children clothing line. Back to the contest it required you to paint a white t-shirt that your child could wear. The trees and colors were laid out for you. With nothing else to do that day we made Miss Emma a apron from one of the boys t-shirts. It was so adorable we had to add gingham ribbon to fringe. The favorite part of the boys was cutting the potatoes to use as our leaf stamp. Hey a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do. I needed a leaf stamp. So please check it out on Tori's Blog here.

Cooking in Batches

2010-06-26T18:16:00.000-07:00

Mission Complete! We rolled, stirred, and licked our fingers till the freezer was full. We spent about 3 hours form start to clean up! The most dreaded part ever. For the past 2 years I have become a crazed meal planning fool. With 3 kids running around, school projects, sport practices till dark it left no time for a cooked meal. With that being said I needed a plan. No more fast food, prepackaged food! Not to mention I started following the show Food Revolution! Thanks Jamie! California schools need you. So the end result was I started precooking meals that last about a month. Our most haves are pancakes, meatballs b/c there's 100's of recipes for them, taco meat and the neighborhood favorite fries. I'm happy to report that even the kids look forward to getting dirty. We turn the tunes up and tie our ruffled aprons on. I tell you it couldn't get better well maybe........ if I had a bigger kitchen, island of and a freezer. Well I'll have to include some of my recipes.

Its me again, Blog!

2010-06-25T20:13:00.000-07:00

I have to admit that I vanished from my blog. I felt as guilty as eating at Cold Stone's for the 2x this week. With the ending of school and my fully charged toddler my extra time went to my pillow. But momma's back and ready to unleash some great bargains worth grabbing. And of course our summer adventures. I have big plans for this summer like redoing my kitchen table and chairs, growing my very own container garden, and whatever else may come my way! I heard from my dear friend today that the shabby chic white clock / coat hanger is mine for the taking! Free and chic, what more could you ask for. Thank you pam!

keeping it frugal
