Here is a really good video on YouTube about how to pitch your company in 15 seconds. He uses a modern twist on the classic old headline strategy, the twitter headline.

Message Map

I’ve never heard this term Message Map before, however it is a very simplified version of a mindmap, where you are focused on a single message that you can state in 15 (or 30) seconds.

I thought how cool, so I thought I would do that for our company. (I’m going to go away and create a message map, I’ll be back when I’m done with my message map.

tick, tick, tick, … [10 minutes later]

Ok I’m back. Here is what I came up with:

Well I need to work on this a bit, and I will because like the idea a lot!

Here is my Sales Pitch, it only took 10 Seconds: Listen: 10 Sec Sales

You can tell I’m not a professional orator, but there you go..

What I did NOT Say

Take note of what I did NOT say. I did NOT mention a thing about building websites, SEO, Sales funnels, local optimization, reputation management, blah, blah, blah … (services we do indeed provide) are NOT what benefits our clients, they are a means to the end, increased revenues (sales, profits, etc).

The services I did NOT mention are all tactics, things that we do that ultimately will (or should, if done correctly for the right business), will result in increased revenues do not mean a thing if they do NOT in fact produce the result the clients wants which ultimately boils down to more sales, increased profits or reduced marketing spending.

What does (or should) a business want? A new website or more sales? A first page ranking in Google or qualified leads?

It has been very hard (for me) to get over myself and announce all the great work we do, in favor of focusing on the results our clients are actually interested in!

So we have been working on our new website http://WordPressRecipes.com, which is loaded full of WordPress video tutorials. We’re glad to announce…It’s now ready! and available to subscribers.

The tutorials are grouped in small (bite size) sections with an easy to follow, logical order.

Here’s an example: Section 1 is about “Preparing for your website”, Section 2 is about “Adding content to WordPress”, etc.

Each section consists of anywhere from 3 to 8 pages along with the tutorial video. There also exists a section page with thumb nails and a link to the page with the video. Here is a screenshot so you’ll know what we mean:

WARNING: Geek Stuff Below

After manually creating about three of these things, I had enough. Especially trying to wrestle with tinyMCE while trying to attain the formatting I was looking for.

So I threw in the towel and wrote the following function. I dropped it into a page template and Whala!

Heck I have over 100 of these video’s and there is no way in the world I am (one of my assistants) going to manually create everyone of these pages.

Here is the code. It was actually very simple. It took me a little over an hour to concoct this function, not too much more time than it takes to create one of these directory pages.

My take away is pretty simple, you must treat every prospect, client or past client with the sincere, full scale commitment to seeing there business and life better.

Pretty easy stuff to understand, much harder to do in many cases.

I was about to write an article on how I would build a website today, but before I got to the nuts and bolts of building a website, I wanted to be sure to mention a thing or two about preparing for the build. What I thought would be a paragraph or so ended up being basically what you see here so I decided, to make it, it’s own article. So here we are!

Ok, First Things First Before we jump into how to building a website, we need to
know why we are building the website, that will lead us to what type of site we
are building. Technically, it will tell use what services the website will need to provide. It may have a big impact on the components (software) we use to build the site.

Reasons to Build a Website

You want to market our business and generate leads

You have products or services we want to sell online

You want have a portfolio or catalog we want to display online

You want to create a private membership area

You just want have fun

You aren’t really sure, we’re exploring possibilities ..

The better we understand why we want to build a site, the easier it will be to
answer what the site will need to do.

Website Requirements

Educate our prospects and client

Help us capture emails from leads, or get leads to call us.

Maybe we need a photo gallery to display our products or portfolio

Maybe we’ll need to accept and process payments, perhaps a shopping cart

We could have private content we reserved for paying customers

Perhaps we want to run a private community or bulletin board

Or write about a rapidly changing industry, or our travel experiences.

You get the idea. There are quite a few things we can do with our website. Going through this exercise will help us determine what components we will need to assemble to get the website to accomplish what you want from it.

What is important to note here is that the above are website features, at times
some of these features will may require the assistance of external resources, or perhaps a separate website altogether. Other times a single website can incorporate multiple features into a single site. This will depend on what we determined

As tempting as it is to jump in and start building a site, loading images and
playing with styles, we will end up with a disorganized mess. The clearer our
vision is of our website the more focused we will stay on creating the site we
want. This is very important.

I can see clearly now, the rain is gone …

Now that we know what the website is supposed to do, we will have a much easier
time of getting it up and running.

But we still have one more task to do before we create a site plan! The site
plan will contain all the pages that make up the site, as well as how they are
connected (or layed out). This will provide us the structure we will need as we
start building our site.

OK, now let’s move on to how were going to build our website…
