Lake Placid Blog

Submitted by guest blogger, Traci Wagner. Bang! The gun goes off and into the water we go, the once-calm lake now boiling over with swimmers. It’s a sight worth seeing, and I’m right in the middle of it. This is it — I’m finally competing in Ironman Lake Placid.  Swimming Mirror Lake isn’t like swimming any other Ironman course. I found my pace and positioned myself amongst equally efficient swimmers and we cruised right along. Ironman Lake Placid attracts some of the most positive and humble people to race with. As I exited the water to begin my second loop I felt a tap on my shoulder. I... continue reading

Submitted by guest blogger, Traci Wagner. Swimming, biking, and running in the Adirondacks is a triathlete’s training and racing paradise. Ironman just celebrated its 20th anniversary in Lake Placid, New York, and it’s no wonder summer after summer, year after year, triathletes from all over the world travel here to test their limits — to accomplish swimming 2.4 miles, biking 112 miles, and running 26.2 miles in one day on a course immersed in the grandeur of the mountains.  Like many mid-20-year-olds, six years ago I was trying to figure out who I was and what I wanted from life. It wasn’t... continue reading

To many, fall means football season, pumpkin spice season, back to school season, scarf and sweater season, a new season of your favorite sitcom, or some years, crazy political pundit sparring season.  Those things are all fine (except the pumpkin spice - I’m completely over that). But to me, the arrival of fall also means it’s time for golf in Lake Placid. If you’ve played golf in Lake Placid at any time of year, you’re already hooked and probably don’t need to hear any more from me on the subject. However, for those that need more intel, I’ve drafted the...  Top 5 reasons to PUTT Lake... continue reading

Submitted by guest blogger, Eileen Mowrey.  While you may be familiar with the stunning landscape surrounding Lake Placid, and the plentiful outdoor recreation opportunities it affords, are you aware of the amazing food and drink options to be found in the bustling mountain town?  In Lake Placid, every hour is happy hour – or at least, that’s how it feels! I recommend working up an appetite, because... continue reading

I have a lot of extreme friends. Ironman athletes, hikers, rock climbers, and extreme outdoorsy types. These are people that go on adventures for vacations. They enjoy jumping off of bridges, climbing the highest peaks, and running marathons on their days off. They think this is normal activity and that I need more adventure in my life. I am really quite content with my kind of vacation. I prefer beaches, pools, and lakes. I like to jump into the lake from a boat, or look at the mountains from an Adirondack chair. I do, however, love photographs with views and family drives through the... continue reading
