Beautiful spring weather on tap for today and throughout this weekend. The river levels are high but temps are warming into the fifties and even one report of a 60 degree reading above the monuments. Still not much bug activity but warmer temps have fish moving for the fly. Runoff is the culprit for the higher levels as we haven't had any rain and the woods are dry and fire danger remains at a high level. Wildflowers are popping, buds are swelling, the first black fly bite of the year can't be far behind. Actually, all right on schedule. Enjoy...

At least the day time temps will be in the upper forties and low fiftes. Stone fly nymphs and bead head caddis accounted for some fish from hearty anglers who were out over the weekend. Mid to late day is the time to get out there as the water may warm at that time, unfortunately it may cool as runoff is added to the flow.

We have a lot of snow to runoff and there is still some ice along the edges but conditions are decent for early April and much more typical of our "normal" spring. Some stocking has occurred along the east branch and around Ausable Forks and most of that done by the Essex county hatchery.

Ice out on the ponds and lakes is a long way off. The Dog sleds on Mirror Lake were out there in force all weekend, boo. But yesterday there was some puddles and actual wet spots on the sufrace. The color of the ice is still very white but hopefully a few nights of above freezing temps will start to turn it to the darker gray that signals the turn from hard water to softer and happily, much more fishable water.

Last year at this time we were practically swimming but this year, as they all are, is different, very different. Get out and give it a try, be aware and be careful. Good Luck!

The fall was a bit of a throw back to more normal fall conditions. Cold and rainy but hey thats what fall is supposed to be like, I think we have gotten used to mild snow free Septembers and Octobers and this one hasn't been like that.

As trout season closes we switch our focus to the marshes and uplands and begin chasing ducks , geese and upland game in earnest. So far so good, we have been blessed with plentiful game and good dog work and look forward to more of it in the coming months. To that end we have decided to bring in some of the finne products for hunting from Orvis, stop by and take a look.

We also will be offering some great steelhead trips on the Salmon River in November. This is a great fishery and fishing with one of our guides will simplify and demystify how to go about the steelheading game. It has been a great start to their season and should continue until you just can't feel your fingers. Get in touch with us if you would like to find out more about it.
