Need a tuxedo for Prom or other occasions?  The Lakota West Bands have black tuxedos for sale.  We have ‘nearly new’ and used tuxedos available.  Availability and sizes based on first come, first served.  This sale is open to all Lakota students.

1. Band Auditions continue this week. Trumpets are on Tuesday, Saxophones on Wednesday, and Double Reeds (that’s oboes and bassoons) on Thursday. Auditions start at 3:00. Please remind your students to sign up on the morning of their audition so they can ride the activity bus to Main Campus. The auditions will be held in the band room. Trumpets should be finished around 4:00, saxes between 3:30-4:00, and double reeds should be complete by 3:30.
2. We will be hosting “Try Band” on Saturday, March 3 at the Lakota West Freshman School. This is an opportunity for all of the 6th grade students at the West side elementary schools to come see, hear, touch and hold all of the beginning band instruments that will be offered in 7th grade. Students from Symphonic Winds will be performing in their chamber groups and will be performing some very fun music. At the end of the morning, Symphonic Winds will put on a Pops Concert for all who come. The elementary schools should have this information by this point, but, please help us get the word out. If you have 6th grade students, please make sure to bring them. This is a wonderful opportunity for these students to be exposed to band in a very “touchy-feely” and fun environment. There will be prizes and things for the students to take home as well. Again please help us get the word out.
3. Our next performance is Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at 7:00 pm. This is our Pre-Large Group Adjudicated Event performance. This important performance will help prepare us for our Adjudicated Performance on Saturday, March 17, 2012. We expect 7th period band to play around 9:00 am and 6th period band to play around 11:00 am on Saturday, March 17 at Fairfield High School. Please contact us immediately if you have any questions. We will be forwarding additional and more detailed information as we get a little closer to the event.

“A Taste for Music” is a new dining partnership concept currently in development.  Please check back soon for future ‘Taste’ dates, locations and special events.  In the mean time, join us at Wendy’s on Wednesday between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. for some Dave’s Hot ‘N Juicy Cheeseburgers and Natural Cut Fries…or whatever you have a Taste for.  Wendy’s will donate 15% of all receipts during the event to the Lakota West Upbeat Club so that our kids can continue to make music…A Taste for Music!

We are looking for additional assistance in helping to plan this year’s Jazz ‘n Cakes event.   Jazz ‘n Cakes will be on Saturday, April 14 from 8:00am to noon at Lakota West.

We will have our first organization meeting this Thursday, Feb. 16 from 7:00 to 8:00 at the West Chester Library, Room “A/B”.    Please consider volunteering to help with the coordination of the very important fundraiser for the Band Program.

The remaining meetings will all be on Thursdays at the West Chester Library:

April 12 7:30pm – 9:00pm in Room “C”

All are welcome to attend the OMEA 2012 All-State Band concert on Friday February 17th at 8:00pm in the Columbus, Ohio Crown Plaza Ball Room at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. Admission is free. A number of Lakota students were chosen for this select band and will be performing on Friday evening. Directions to the convention center can be found HERE along with suggestions for PARKING and a MAP of the facility.

All are welcome to attend the OMEA 2012 All-State Jazz Ensemble concert featuring 10 Lakota jazz students on Saturday February 18th at 12:15pm in the Columbus, Ohio Crown Plaza Ball Room at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. Admission is free. Directions to the convention center can be found HERE along with suggestions for PARKING and a MAP of the facility.

1. Band placement auditions begin on Tuesday this week, Feb 14th (Happy Valentines Day). Clarinets are up first on Tuesday, Trombones on Wednesday, Euphoniums and Tubas on Thursday.
2. Auditions will take place in the band room at Main Campus. Students should plan on riding the activity bus over after school and will need to be picked up around 4:00 p.m.
3. Please remind students of the procedure for riding the activity bus – they need to sign up to ride the bus during the day that they are supposed to ride it, and remind them to put Mr. Chumley’s name down as the teacher.
4. Students should be prepared to play 16-32 measures of something that shows off their playing abilities, plus scales.

Attached is a link to the Pulse-Journal article regarding the proposed budget cuts to the Lakota Schools.  Of special interest to Band Parents should be the meeting tonight, Feb. 13 at 7:00 pm at the Lakota East Auditorium.   The board will hear recommendations for reductions in 7-12.   And on Feb. 27 at 7:00 pm at the Lakota East Auditorium will be recommendations for administration, athletics and other.

I would encourage all band families to get involved and  learn what is at stake.  Read the articles, come to the meetings, get involved.  Our students have a lot to lose.

The next meeting of the Upbeat Club will be Tuesday February 21^st at 7:30 in the Band room.  All parents of band students are invited to attend.

The end of the school year is rapidly approaching.   One of the highlights of the end of the year is Awards night featuring a slide show of the year in review and acknowledgment of the graduating  seniors.  If your student would like to be included in this year’s program, please submit a current photo – can be a senior photo or a casual photo and a baby picture – any age will do – infant to grade school.   If you prefer to scan your photos, please send them in resolution no less than 600 X 600 DPI to Kathy Sant (secretary@lakotawestbands.org).  If you prefer to send them in to be scanned, please drop them in the envelope on the board next to Mr. Snyder’s office.  Please make sure all photos are marked and they will be returned.  Deadline for photo submission is Spring Break, March 30^th.
