Finally another zombie movie, World War Z opens in theaters today. If you're a fan and you miss watching The Walking Dead series don't worry because this film is the answer to your misery.

Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt) with his wife (Mireille Enos) and two kids are trapped in Philadelphia traffic when a huge explosion occurred. They tried to flee away from the scene as the undead start attacking people and infecting the ones who get bitten. When his family was rescued, his former boss asked for his help to find a cure against the virus. At first Gerry was hesitant to take the job but with his family's lives also at stake, he must rely on his skills as a former U.N agent to find a solution to this epidemic.

28 Days later meets Contagion at the first opening minutes of the film. The movie doesn't waste time and started in a high gear thrilling momentum. But unlike the TWD series the zombies here are more at rage. They just didn't bother to put a lot of prosthetic make-ups for zombies but still manages to cause heart palpitation all throughout the film. The best thing here is they showed zombie apocalyptic phenomenon in full effect. Zombies crowded in the streets, they pile like ants to overcome a wall even filling a whole football stadium that looked good in a helicopter shot.

Brad Pitt carried the film and makes an outstanding performance. Though the film lacked in zombie closeups, blood spills and gore it still provided a new atmosphere to an undead themed film.

Overall if you look at World War Z it mostly relied on CGI effects the whole time but that's not necessarily means it's a bad thing. The film kept us from holding our pee, thrilled right from the very beginning and experienced a great zombie movie. It still has more room to improve but its not holding us back from giving a perfect score.

Based on Frank Miller’s latest graphic novel “Xerxes,” and told in the breathtaking visual style of the 2006 blockbuster “300,” this new chapter of the epic saga takes the action to a fresh battlefield—on the sea—as Greek general Themistokles attempts to unite all of Greece by leading the charge that will change the course of the war.

“300: Rise of an Empire” pits Themistokles against the massive invading Persian forces led by mortal-turned-god Xerxes, and Artemesia, vengeful commander of the Persian navy.

The film stars Sullivan Stapleton (“Gangster Squad”) as Themistokles and Eva Green (“Dark Shadows,” “Casino Royale”) as Artemesia. Jaime Foxx, An action hero president in “WHITE HOUSE DOWN”

On a roll after his acclaimed performance in the Oscar-winning “Django Unchained,” Jamie Foxx now stars as President Sawyer in Columbia Pictures’ new action thriller “White House Down” from director Roland Emmerich.

In the film, Capitol Policeman John Cale (Channing Tatum) has just been denied his dream job with the Secret Service of protecting President James Sawyer. Not wanting to let down his little girl with the news, he takes her on a tour of the White House, when the complex is overtaken by a heavily armed paramilitary group. Now, with the nation’s government falling into chaos and time running out, it’s up to Cale to save his daughter, the president, and the country.

Producer Bradley J. Fischer says that casting Jamie Foxx was part of the key to defining the tone of the film. “We were hoping to find the right actor to play the President – somebody who could play it in a way that was a little disarming,” says Fischer. “We were hoping to find an actor who could bring the gravitas of the presidency, but also a comedic element – not jokes, but funny, light moments that would cut the tension. In a way, Cale and Sawyer are a classic ‘buddy’ pairing. That’s why Jamie was perfect – he won an Oscar® for the way he can inhabit different characters. Not only that, but it turned out he has great chemistry with Channing – they played off of each other in a way that we all found incredibly satisfying to watch. With Channing and Jamie together, the movie is just so much fun.”

Foxx says that the 46th president of the United States is “a man who would do anything to protect America, but also a man who understands that in order to protect America in this day and age, you have to have an understanding of the enemies. If you don’t have that understanding, or a way to open a dialog, you’ll forever be at odds and something drastic will constantly keep happening.”

Emmerich says that screenwriter James Vanderbilt wrote the character of President Sawyer as an interesting counterpoint to Cale. “When President Sawyer gets elected, he wants to do so much – and then when he’s in the job, it’s not that easy. He has to spend an inordinate amount of time on the politics of the job,” says Emmerich. “Whereas Cale’s goal is to try to impress himself and his daughter, the president is holding himself up against greatness – he wants to do something truly presidential, something Lincolnesque. He wants to be remembered as a great president. So that is part of the fun of the movie: you have a former soldier battling it out intellectually with the commander in chief as they’re stuck together throughout the movie.”

“It’s a complicated role,” says Vanderbilt. “You have to have a serious side as the President of the United States, but also, the president in our movie has got to be able to play the fun stuff as well. He’s got to be able to play the physical stuff, the light moments, the dark moments, all of it. And on top of it all, the actor had to be believable as an electable president and pair well with Channing. Jamie was a perfect choice.”

“In this situation, the President is faced with the beginning of a new world order,” explains Foxx. “He’s learning that the might of the sword is not always the best course of action. We bring up some of these political issues, but not too heavy on the political side. It’s a fresh look at what I would call a super action hero. Sit down, get ready for the ride, watch Channing go to work and do his thing as Officer John Cale.”

Working with Roland Emmerich was a revelation for Foxx. “As an actor who wants to be a director, I’d think about the movie and wonder, ‘Wow, the scope! How is he going to make this cinematic?’ I got to watch him – I got the chance to look over his shoulder and get a peek at his shot list. It was really a blast. But Roland was also a great collaborator – he allows you to bring in your own voice, your ideas, and then he shapes them in the way that he can execute the movie – and if you go too far off, he’s there to pull you back in.”

“ MAN OF STEEL” Soars to the top of PH Box Office with P247-M in 5 days

Manila, June 17, 2013 – Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ “Man of Steel” has opened to a record-breaking P247-million in the Philippines, marking the all-time biggest June opening ever in the industry.

The announcement was made today by Francis Soliven, General Manager of Warner Bros. (F.E.), Inc. which distributed the film.

“We’re thrilled at the tremendous response we’ve seen from audiences across the country to Zack Snyder’s exciting new vision of the iconic Super Hero,” said Soliven. “From internet presales to people lining up for theaters, `Man of Steel’ has proven to be the must-see film of the season.”

The new Superman movie shattered the record for highest June opening weekend in history previously held by “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” 2011.

“Man of Steel” also outgrossed 2011’s “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2” to claim the best weekend launch ever for a Warner Bros. title.

Earlier Wednesday, June 12 the Henry Cavill-starrer established a new record for all-time biggest first-day gross with P69.52-M, eclipsing the milestone “Iron Man 3” reached last April with P62.9-M.

SM North EDSA got the lion’s share of gross receipts with P14.74-M, followed by SM Mall of Asia (P14.24-M) and SM Megamall (P10.77-M).

The best-selling cinemas also include Trinoma (P9.18-M), Glorietta 4 (P7.74-M), SM Cebu (P6.81-M), SM Southmall (P6.44-M), Newport (P5.80-M), Gateway (P5.79-M) and Power Plant (P5.38-M).

Billy Crystal gives voice, humor to Mike in “MONSTERS UNIVERSITY”

Mike Wazowski’s lifelong dream is to become a Scarer at Monsters, Inc.—and he’s sure he knows just how to do it. Comic actor Billy Crystal returns to Pixar’s recording studios, giving voice, humor and a heightened level of emotion to this beloved little green one-eyed monster, in the new comedy adventure “Monsters University.”

In the film, ever since he was a young monster, Mike’s had his eye on Monsters University, home of the monster world’s top Scare Program. Now a freshman and hopeful Scare student, he’s well versed in the rich history, theory and technique required to reach his goal, and he has more confidence, enthusiasm, determination and heart than all of his classmates combined. Then he meets James P. Sullivan—Sulley—and life gets tricky.

“He gets little guy’s disease bad,” says Crystal. “He has a chip on his shoulder when it comes to Sulley—this big handsome monster who’s everything Mike really wants to be.”

The problem, of course, is that Sulley fails to nurture his natural abilities, while Mike works extra hard—to little avail. “This movie does something that is rarely done,” says director Dan Scanlon. “It shows someone who has a dream and a desire that doesn’t work out the way he expects it to. I think that happens to everyone in some way or another, so we really wanted this movie to show that sometimes when you reach those walls, there’s something better around the corner. It’s not the end of the world. Mike Wazowski is the perfect guy to tell that story.”

Crystal says that for monsters, the characters are surprisingly human. “It’s easy to think that these characters can’t possibly have any depth or feelings because they're monsters, but they do,” says Crystal. “They’re young men figuring out who they are and what they want in life—and then what life actually has in store for them. What’s great about these movies is that they don't just entertain, they also have a wonderful message.”

And going back in time is sort of a bonus, adds the actor. “Suddenly, we're 18 years old. They made us look younger and thinner. I wish life could work that way.”

“We had to take Mike and Sulley back in time,” adds Scanlon. “Which meant we had to make them younger—college age—how do you do that with monsters?”

The question proved challenging for Scanlon and the production team. “We made them thinner, shortened their horns, removed age lines and made their eyes brighter and colors more saturated,” says character art director Jason Deamer.

“We made a bunch of subtle moves and were pleased at how different they looked standing next to the older versions. We thought the cumulative effect was huge. But it wasn’t enough—a slightly skinnier green ball with one eye was still just that. When you extract the essence of someone’s likeness, whatever those basic elements are, that’s what you remember ten years after seeing a movie.”

So the team gave each of the returning characters what they called a “visual hook.” For Mike, artists added braces for the grade school version, which graduated to a retainer by the time he landed on the Monsters University campus.

All of the characters—both old and new—were treated with Pixar’s signature innovative spirit, creating a memorable cast that’s ultimately brought to life by a talented roster of voice talent led by Billy Crystal and John Goodman. “Those guys were great,” says Scanlon. “We recorded them individually early on in the process—just to get them back into the groove of the characters and for everyone to find the slightly younger versions of Mike and Sulley. But when we got them together, it was wonderful. They really get along, and have a natural charisma together. It was great for me as a director to just set up the basic idea of the scene and let them run with it. I’d stand back and watch, making little changes here and there. The energy level was high. Recording them together really allowed for the kind of happy accidents that you don’t often find in animation—those great spontaneous moments.”

MANILA, June 13, 2013 – The new, origin film of Superman flew off to a blockbuster start yesterday as “Man of Steel” surpassed the industry's all-time opening day record with a nationwide gross of a monumental P69.52-M.

“Man of Steel's” phenomenal debut bested the opening day record previously established only last April by “Iron Man 3” at P62.9-million.

This was announced today by Francis Soliven, general manager of Warner Bros. (F.E.), Inc. which distributed the film. “This is a day of reckoning for Superman,” added Soliven. “He's a larger-than-life character beloved by millions of Filipinos, and this was proven today. Dominating the over all box-office with a 94 percent share, “Man of Steel” also posted the biggest opening day gross ever for Warner Bros. whose previous best first-day performer was “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2” at P28.3-million.

First we would like to thank our friends from Warner Brothers PH for the tickets for the advance screening premiere of Man of Steel Last June 11 at IMAX SM Mall of Asia.

When the first trailer of the Man of Steel comes out, We're like "oh crap another reboot of Superman". So we removed it on our watch list. We don't like Superman that much but after watching it were like " Damn, the best movie released this year so far"

If you're having doubts because a lot of mixed reviews are coming out. Well think again Man of Steel is definitely a must watch movie. A plus if you watch it on IMAX 3D to experience the full spectacular visual effects that pops out of the gigantic screen. Zack Snyder did the trick making Man of Steel a stunning masterpiece. Over 40 minutes of jaw dropping action sequences that were really impressive. In addition to that the actors owned their respective roles.

Henry Cavill really lived up as Clark Kent as he has all the qualities to be the Man of Steel. He is handsome and has the charisma. The only problem is his hairy chest that pops out of his classy suit that's quite disturbing. Amy Adams did a great job as Lois Lane and also has a good on screen chemistry with Cavill. We'll might expect their romance blossom later on in the sequel. Russell Crowe was awesome while Kevin Costner and Diane Lane provided good quality minutes as supporting casts.

Overall Man of Steel delivered what movie goers would love to see in a superhero flick. It has a decent paced story, Remarkable fight scenes, impressive visual effects, outstanding actors to compromise a very solid film. Better see the film first and decide for yourself. Again for us Man of Steel is the best film released this year.

Four-time Academy Award-nominee Amy Adams stars as the comic book world’s most famous newspaper reporter, Lois Lane, in Warner Bros. Pictures' and Legendary Pictures' new action adventure “Man of Steel.”

In the film, just as Clark Kent (Henry Cavill) is beginning to discover the secrets of his birth and decide which course he must follow, he meets a woman who could have a good deal of influence over the choices he makes, and who has the power to turn his world upside down: investigative journalist Lois Lane.

“Part of Clark’s journey is finding acceptance,” Adams notes. “He’s running from it, hiding from it, because he hasn’t come to terms with who he is, and that makes for a lonely existence. He’s had to work hard not to expose his abilities, but he’s made some mistakes there, and that has made him extremely intriguing to someone like Lois, whose job, whose very nature, is about uncovering—and exposing—the truth.”

As an anonymous drifter, Clark leaves an unintentional trail of courageous, seemingly impossible and equally inexplicable acts behind him. Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Lois Lane of The Daily Planet is on assignment in the Arctic when she witnesses firsthand Clark’s extraordinary powers. Amy Adams embodies one of the most famous female characters in comics, who has no superpowers of her own—other than those of deduction. “Like so many journalists, Lois is singularly focused; she’s only aware of the story she wants to tell. She has that fearlessness in pursuit of truth, the belief that it is more important than one’s own wellbeing, but it has become addictive, clouding her judgment and detaching her from the real people behind her stories.”

So it comes as a surprise, especially to Lois herself, when Clark’s assertion that the world may not be ready for his truth makes her think twice about her objectives. “She recognizes there isn’t one truth, that there’s truth from different perspectives,” Adams continues, adding that, because of her ambitions, and perhaps because of the nature of her job, “Lois had lost trust and belief in goodness. “There are so many facets to Lois,” producer Deborah Snyder says. “She is tough as nails, feisty, and also beautiful and sensitive and emotional, but she’s no damsel in distress. She’s a truly modern woman. We were so lucky to have such an accomplished actress play her. Amy brought so much depth and spirit to the character.”

Adams earned her most recent Oscar® nod for her performance in Paul Thomas Anderson’s 2012 drama “The Master,” for which she also received Golden Globe and BAFTA Award nominations. Fun Trivia on “THE LONE RANGER” Shoot

From tricky masks to on-location inside jokes to magically multiplying population, the filming of Disney/Jerry Bruckheimer Films’ “The Lone Ranger” has been filled with fun trivia. Get a load of these fun facts involving castmembers Johnny Depp, Armie Hammer and the rest of the crew.

“The Lone Ranger” opens in 2013, exactly 80 years after the character first made its way onto the airwaves courtesy of WXYZ radio in Detroit, Michigan, on January 30, 1933. And coincidentally, Detroit is the city in which producer Jerry Bruckheimer was born and raised!

The creation of The Lone Ranger’s mask required much trial and error from Joel Harlow’s makeup department, with ten different designs and seven fittings with actor Armie Hammer. The final version was vacuum-formed over Hammer’s face, and was made of very soft goatskin leather.

The terrifyingly perched “Spirit Platform,” on which John Reid (Hammer) awakens, really was terrifyingly perched at the very edge of Moab, Utah’s Dead Horse Point, with a nearly 2000 foot drop to the valley floor and Colorado River below. The rickety platform itself was an additional 18 feet high, and yes, that really is Armie Hammer and not a stunt performer on top of it!
After wrap on the final day of filming in tiny Creede, Colorado, Johnny Depp held an autograph-signing session with local people for nearly four hours, and despite the fact that the town has a population of only 290, nearly a thousand souls magically appeared for the occasion.

In location in Moab, Utah, the town’s sole sushi restaurant honored the film by creating such specials as “Tonto-maki” and “Kemowasabee Roll” and a drink called “Kemo-sake Mojito.”

On the final day of Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer’s filming in late September 2012, a large cake was wheeled out with a picture decorating its top—not of the two stars, but rather their popular New Mexico-based stand-ins, Wes Trudell and James Blackburn—to the actors’ great amusement.

Rather than hire existing trains, the demands of the script meant that the production needed to build two 250-ton trains, and the five miles of track on which they rolled.

The filming required that several actors—among them Johnny Depp, Armie Hammer, Tom Wilkinson, William Fichtner and Ruth Wilson—stand on top of trains moving at speeds up to 40 miles per hour.

The Lone Ranger’s “Spirit Horse,” the famed Silver, is incredibly enough “played” by a ten-year-old Thoroughbred-quarter horse mix named Silver, with which head horse trainer Bobby Lovgren of “War Horse” fame was already familiar.

In both Monument Valley and Canyon de Chelly, several key cast members and filmmakers—including Depp, Hammer, James Badge Dale and director Gore Verbinski—lived out of their trailers at base camp, enjoying nightly campfires and music. They were sometimes fed traditional stews and fry bread by a local Navajo family on whose land they were staying.

From producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Gore Verbinski, the filmmaking team behind the blockbuster “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise, comes “The Lone Ranger,” a thrilling adventure infused with action and humor, in which the famed masked hero is brought to life through new eyes.

In the film, native American warrior Tonto (Depp) recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid (Hammer), a man of the law, into a legend of justice—taking the audience on a runaway train of epic surprises and humorous friction as the two unlikely heroes must learn to work together and fight against greed and corruption.

A New Poster Rises For “300: RISE OF AN EMPIRE”

Based on Frank Miller’s latest graphic novel “Xerxes,” and told in the breathtaking visual style of “300,” this new chapter of the epic saga takes the action to a fresh battlefield—on the sea—as Greek general Themistokles attempts to unite all of Greece by leading the charge that will change the course of the war.

“300: Rise of an Empire” pits Themistokles against the massive invading Persian forces led by mortal-turned-god Xerxes, and Artemesia, vengeful commander of the Persian navy.

Breakout Actress MELISSA McCARTHY in “THE HEAT”

FBI Special Agent Sarah Ashburn (Sandra Bullock) – the Fed – and Boston cop Shannon Mullins (Melissa McCarthy) – the Fuzz – couldn’t be more incompatible. But when they join forces to bring down a ruthless drug lord, they become the last thing anyone expected: buddies.

At the helm of “The Heat” is Paul Feig, the movie takes a look at the odd couple pairing of two law enforcement officials who, to their everlasting shock, slowly find themselves on the same page. The Ashburn-Mullins dynamic is akin to that eternal physics problem about an irresistible force meeting an immovable object. Only, here, it’s hard to tell who is which. Ashburn is ambitious, talented, brainy, and possesses Sherlock Holmes-like powers of deduction and intuition. She’s always the smartest person in the room, and isn’t shy about letting everyone know it. Mullins grew up on the streets of Boston, and has a shoot-from-the-hip (and mouth) style of dealing with crime and its perpetrators. She’s the “yang” to Ashburn’s “yin.”

To cast Mullins, Feig looked no further than his Bridesmaids breakout star, Melissa McCarthy. “On Bridesmaids, Melissa became my hero,” he says. “So, about 15 pages into reading THE HEAT, the idea of casting her just snapped into my head. The script, which was already hilarious, got ten times funnier when I read it while imagining Melissa as Mullins. “Melissa will commit to a role so hardcore it will shock you,” Feig continues. “It’s hard to realize that it’s Melissa inside that character.”

The tightly-wrapped Ashburn isn’t Mullins’ only headache. She’s also dealing with her out-of-control family. After arresting her own brother (played by starring cast member Michael Rapaport) for dealing drugs, Mullins is ostracized by the other members of her clan, including her mom, dad, four brothers, and for good measure, her brothers’ girlfriends. Says Feig: “Mullins arrested her brother and threw him in jail, in order to save him – sort of a forced rehab. But to the rest of her family, this is an unforgivable betrayal, and she’s a traitor. It’s a very tight-knit family, but they have a very interesting way of showing it.”

“I’ve been beating people up for two months; it’s very cathartic,” joked Melissa McCarthy during the production of THE HEAT. The chemistry between Bullock and McCarthy was evident from the first table read. “When we read the script [together] for the first time, Melissa and I would make the same faces, simultaneously,” Bullock recalls. “Our rhythms are different, but we worked so well together, they began to click. We made so many connections; it’s something I never thought I would have on this level.”

The strength of the Bullock-McCarthy dynamic, evident even then, inspired additional script fine-tuning. “By the end of that first read, it was obvious that Sandy and Melissa really inhabited these characters, and that it was up to Katie Dippold and me to take all that magic and get it into the script – and really let the women fly,” says Feig.

For screenwriter Dippold, the process was liberating. “Sandy and Melissa took what was on the page and made it funnier than I thought it could ever be,” she says. A particular favorite came during a Mullins’ tirade against her captain (played by Tom Wilson) – accusing him of lacking a set of testes – when he refuses her demand to boot Ashburn from the case. “Melissa really ran with the one scripted line, ‘Have you seen the captain’s balls?’ and turned it into something spectacular.”

CULVER CITY, Calif., June 10, 2013 – On Saturday, June 22, 2013, in celebration of the birthday of Peyo, the creator of the Smurfs (born June 25, 1928), Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation will once again coordinate events all over the world as part of Global Smurfs Day, a worldwide event in anticipation of the release of The Smurfs™ 2, in theaters in the Philippines August 7, it was announced today by Marc Weinstock, president, Worldwide Marketing for Sony Pictures.

This will be the second celebration of Global Smurfs Day in what is quickly becoming a tradition. In 2011, the round-the-world events included painting one of the famous White Towns of Andalusia blue and setting a new record for Largest Gathering of People Dressed as Smurfs within a 24-hour Period (Multiple Venues).

This year, the studio has lined up an equally impressive program of events, highlighted by a worldwide Smurf Ambassadors initiative, in which over 40 ambassadors from 28 countries will represent Smurfs fans from around the world with a special day of events celebrating Peyo’s creation.

The ambassadors – celebrities, prominent journalists, and contest winners among them – will dress as Smurfs as they begin their day in Brussels, where Peyo’s daughter Veronique Culliford will officially appoint them as Smurf representatives of their countries. In Australia, Surfers Paradise will officially become Smurfers Paradise for the day, while Moscow’s famed Gorky Park and Dublin’s Ha’Penny Bridge will be covered in smurf-blue flowers. Smurfs will visit children’s hospitals and media centers; invade Warsaw’s Old City Square; engage in sand sculpture marathons; run Smurfathons around the world; and kick off a massive sing-along with the group Right Said Fred in London.

In the Philippines, a small army of Smurfs has “invaded” the SM Mall of Asia’s steel-framed globe. The globe will display an LED projection of the Global Smurfs Day logo on the days leading to the event and on Global Smurfs Day itself.

On June 22 at the SM Mall of Asia Atrium, families are invited to show up in their Smurfiest blue attires and participate in fun family activities which include “Meet and Greet Clumsy,” La-la-la sing-offs, photo booths, face painting, games, and blue-hued refreshments. Venue will be dressed up, and will include Sony Bravia screens set-up to show trailers and clips of The Smurfs 2.

Ethan Wate (Alden Ehrenreich), 17, has had the same recurring dream for months. A mysterious young girl is waiting for him on a Civil War battlefield. Ethan desperately wants to be with her, but there is an unknown danger-and each time a lightning bolt cracks like a gunshot, killing Ethan before he ever reaches the girl.
