This past Tuesday evening, Epsilon-Eta was proud to host Dr. Shirley Ann Jackson, President of RPI, and members of her cabinet, including, Dr. Tim Sams, Ms. Virginia Gregg, and Mr. John Kolb for dinner. The night started with tours of the house, including our history room, library, and other various rooms throughout the house. Following the tours, High Alpha, Craig Hoffstein, EH 1243, gave a quick speech outlining the recent accomplishments of the house. Dinner was then served. Dinner included a salad, roast beef, carrots, mashed potatoes, and coffee for desert. The entire dinner was the creation of brother Sebastian Daou, EH 1239. Following the dinner, each of the cabinet members had nothing but great things to say about the evening, and how grateful they were for dinner and the tours.

Epsilon-Eta continues to strive to have great administration connections, and this dinner was no different. Being the only Greek house that Dr. Jackson had visited this semester, Epsilon-Eta was able to set the bar high for other organizations, while also leaving Dr. Jackson with a great impression of Greek Life on campus. We hope to be able to invite her and the cabinet back again for dinner sometime.

It’s been a busy week for the brothers at Epsilon-Eta. On Saturday April 21st, Epsilon-Eta welcomed two new brothers into the bond. Congradulations:

Alex Freska, EH 1293

Michael Miwa, EH 1294

It was a quick transition for the new brothers as we planned for the next big event on our agenda. The annual Relay for Life at RPI occurred this past weekend, April 27th-28th, with an all-night relay to help fight cancer, and engineer more birthdays. As a team, Lambda Chi Alpha, Epsilon-Eta raised $4,742 to battle cancer, and came in at just $10 short of being third place. As a whole, the relay at RPI raised $82,160 to fight cancer. Of course, our success wouldn’t have been possible without the support of our alumni and family who donated to our team. Special thanks goes to our top 3 fundraisers: Ryan Sinclair, EH 1273, who raised $625, Karl Chung, EH 1264, who raised $575, and Stephen Provost, EH 1226, who raised $500.

The morning after relay was also RPI’s annual Greek Awards Ceremnony, where countless awards are handed out to sororities and fraternities on campus who excel in certain aspects. Epsilon-Eta is proud to take home 4 awards from the ceremony. Brother Brian Orecchio, EH 1221, won Order of Omega Man of the Year. Brother JP Trasatti, EH 1225, won Executive Leader of the Year, and Brother Stephen Provost, EH 1226, won Greek Man of the Year. Lastly, the hard work put into the house by the actives during last semester’s and throughout the semester has culminated in winning the Housing Award at the Greek Awards Ceremony. This award goes towards the house that has put in the most effort to beautify their house. Be sure to drop by the house and congratulate the new brothers, and the award winners, as well as check out the handy work put into the house!

Stay tuned for pictures of Relay for Life, and the Awards Ceremony!

Brian Lewis, EH 1208 Tapped in to the Phalanx Honor Society

On Saturday, March 31, 2012, brother Brian Lewis, EH 1208 was inducted in to the Phalanx Honor Society. Brian, a co-terminal masters student studying Human Computer Interaction, EMAC and Computer Science, is a very active brother within EHZ, serving has the High Phi and High Kappa. He is currently working on the fourth evolution of the Inner Circle Journey and has ultimately been classified as a “Super Brother” at EHZ. However, it is this involvement plus his campus involvement that he was recognized for Phalanx.

Brian is a long time member of the Rusty Pipes and has been a member of the GM Week Committee for the past three years. Brian is the currently the president of Order of Omega, an organization for which he was honored by in 2011 as Man of the Year. Brian has become well known at RPI for his creative designing, often called upon to use his talents to design logos for several on campus departments, tee shirts for all of the organizations he is part of, and of course the rush shirts at EHZ. Brian is the brother that designed the 75th Anniversary Logo and many of the banner ads on our webpage.

The phrase “Super Brother” has been coined at EHZ as a brother that consistently goes above and beyond for our Zeta. Brian is a passionate, talented and an outstanding brother who will always step up when needed in the brotherhood. Brian goes above and beyond in all that he does, at RPI and in the chapter. One of our advisors, Geoff Seber, EH 1250, who has worked with Brian since his freshman year had this to say, “Brian is very deserving of being tapped in the Phalanx Honor Society. Since his first year, Brian has become very involved on campus, quickly becoming a student leader. He is an example to other students and brothers. Brian has made major impact at RPI that will last a lifetime, we are honored to call him a brother and a friend.”

We are very happy and proud of him for being tapped in the Phalanx Honor Society!

If you would like to contact Brian directly to wish him congratulations, you may do so at lewis.brianr@gmail.com

Active leaders in the Greek community that are nominated are those that exemplify the ideals of sorority and/or fraternity membership in their daily lives. The award winners are judged based on the following: leadership; service to the University; service to his/her fraternity or sorority; service to the governing council and larger fraternity/sorority community; interest, ability and achievement in scholastic activities and Character and ideals exemplified through fraternity/sorority membership.

Stephen has made a huge impact in Greek Life during his time at RPI. Currently a senior majoring in Aeronautical and Mechanical Engineering and preparing to graduate this May, Stephen has been involved at both the local and national level of Lambda Chi Alpha. At RPI, Stephen was the president of the Interfraternity Council at a time when transition, new direction and new leadership in Greek Life were instituted by RPI. Nominated by Matt Hunt, the Associate Dean for the Greek Life Commons at RPI, he wrote in the nomination; “Stephen expanded the influence of the Greek Community through the creation of joint Panhellenic and Interfraternity monthly meetings, monthly regional fraternity meetings, and council led community service efforts to gaining local and regional media attention. Stephen challenged his officers to set ambitious goals and change their campus culture for the better and through these efforts he and his peers were extremely successful.”

Stephen is very active in Epsilon-Eta and with the general fraternity. As a High Zeta Officer for two years, holding the position of High Phi and High Beta, as well as being Steward this semester, Stephen holds great knowledge about our fraternity, its workings and its teachings. Stephen is in his fourth stage of the Inner Circle Journey, Lifetime Brother, in which he expects to complete this year. Stephen is also a two year member of the Senior Advisory Council at the international level of Lambda Chi Alpha, regularly attending the national meetings. We are excited to share the news with all of you as the award is well deserved. We are honored to have a true brother like Stephen as part of our brotherhood.

The active brothers of Epsilon-Eta would like to wish all of our alumni a happy birthday. 75 years ago today our brotherhood began a long tradition of great brothers, best friends, fantastic memories and remarkable history! Today we are celebrating with the RPI community with a birthday celebration (which includes a cake) in the middle of campus. Invitations were given to the many faculty and staff that have helped us to grow over the year.

We hope you take a few minutes to reflect on the meaning of LXA in your life.

Greetings Everyone,

With finals and holiday break drawing closer, we’d like to wish everyone good luck with finals and happy holidays, and most importantly safe travels. To give a brief update of Lambda Chi Alpha this past semester, Epsilon Eta welcomed 11 new initiates into the brotherhood, and as a whole Lambda Chi Alpha welcomed over 2,000 new imitates this past fall semester. Also, the brothers here at Epsilon Eta, have been working hard to prepare for our 75th anniversary next year, and have prepared a whole schedule of events for the year. To learn more, visit our site and be sure to explore the events we have planned. We hope that it will not only be a way to celebrate our past, but build excitement for the future of Lambda Chi Alpha. And as always, stay posted for even more info on our website about Philanthropy, Rush, and more News. Spring semester brings a different look on rush as well as some of our favorite philanthropy events, including Relay for Life and Rock-a-Thon.

Happy Holidays,
the Brothers of Epsilon Eta
