Back in 2006, when my boyfriend and I babbled about things like marriage, I didn’t have many “musts” when it came to the ring, outside of the fact I wanted to walk down the aisle with a round-cut solitaire engagement ring — just like my mother’s — though admittedly a little less 1980’s (aka yellow gold). Her engagement ring, along with a few other items, had been stolen shortly after she passed away and it was one way I felt I could quietly honor her on my big day.

Sean came through, and that Christmas when he proposed, he presented me with a nearly identical engagement ring to my mother’s (right down to carat size) but in platinum; with the game plan that I could always upgrade the setting down the line. We are thinking we might do it this anniversary. I’m not SURE, because I just don’t know, but I was also debating picking something that could possibly stand on its own so I could retire my wedding band – first, because my band doesn’t really go well with the styles of settings I’ve been looking at and, second, because while my wedding band is a half carat of colorless diamonds, it’s also white gold, and I’m growing weary of the need to constantly re-coat it when it begins to yellow. It’s free to do, but tiresome and often leaves my ring at the jewelers for three weeks each year.

Is that odd? Is it weird to just wear one ring – if that ring isn’t your wedding band? Can I be a rebel like that, or will people constantly thank me on my new engagement? What do you wear?

And while we’re asking questions… which do we love more? I love the very vintage styling of the second – but appreciate the pseudo two-band look of the first:

Thus far, it’s been a lot of paint color changes (did I mention one of the guest rooms was neon orange when we moved in?). This past November, however, we took a week long “stay-cation” and decided to try our hands at some much larger projects. Despite the fact we can barely hang frames, we decided to ditch the downstairs carpeting, upgrade a few light fixtures, put up a photo gallery wall, install a chair rail, change some couch covers and install higher baseboards through the entire downstairs. PHEW.

So, welcome to my downstairs

My husband is one of those people who can fall into a deep sleep within seconds of walking anywhere near the bed, and he’s also one of those people who can sleep through anything. He’s even been known to have a conversation with you, in his sleep, that he doesn’t recall at all the next morning (I have a totally unclassy story about how I learned that back when we were dating, but I digress…).

Last night, about an hour after we went to bed and I’m nearly asleep, we had this conversation:

Sean: There’s CAT PEE in here!

Me: What?

Sean: There’s CAT PEE.

Me: What?! Where? In the bed?!

Sean: Huh?

Me: Where is the cat pee?

Sean: What?

Me: … Are you awake right now?

Sean: No.

Me: Ahh, okay. Goodnight.

And so is our lives… When I told him this morning, he was most surprised he answered that he wasn’t awake, LOL.

I had an easy-peasy 29th birthday by spending the day with Sean doing something other than errands (ah, married life…). We enjoyed ”The Woman in Black” – which made me want to re-read Harry Potter – went to the mall and went out to dinner.

After discovering the boys will chase a laser pen, we ended up ordering other colors in an attempt to find a color on the light spectrum Emmie could see, to no avail. I now own many colors of laser pens and my backyard looks like a sweet rave party every night as we watch the boys run around after them all. (OONTZ, OONTZ, OONTZ…)

I reworked our monthly budget to be a little tighter while still allowing for fun, and was reminded that I find crunching numbers and Excel spreadsheets as relaxing as normal people find bubble baths and yoga.

We are getting a wee bit too addicted to shows on A&E – namely, anything that ends in “wars.” Shipping Wars, Storage Wars, you get the idea.

I decided to join The Rest of the Female Race and finally watched “Sex & the City” – all six seasons – and have to say… damnnit, I loved it. I didn’t even dislike Miranda, who I was sure I would loathe.

I’m working on cleaning up this blog to be less STUFFINYOURFACE and just a blog again. A place to write even the least important of things and just enjoy myself.
