This is a baby blanket I made for hubby's niece that had a baby girl yesterday, May 10th. I put two pieces of complimentary flannel together and hemstitch around the raw edges. This gives me evenly spaced holes to crochet into and the raw edges are finished almost like a surged edge. Isn't it cute?

Here are the socks I made at the retreat. Only two pair because I also took classes on a different way to dye yarn and make socks with beads. It was a great retreat, but now I have to kitchner the toes closed and take off the hideous yellow waste yarn. I'm not in a hurry because these socks aren't for anyone special. I need to make more just to have a supply for gift giving and some times people contact me to buy home made socks.
I went to a sock machine retreat last weekend finally! I needed to get away and renew my sock knitting ability. It was great to be with my friends and sell some of my yarn stash. Oh and I sold a Legare 47 sock machine too. It was the last of my stash of fixer-upper machines, so that part of my hobby is over because it can be stressful.

My Goldie Sox machine (New Zealand Auto Knitter) is my favorite by far, but this time I decided to take my first machine (Canadian Auto Knitter) and renew my relationship with "her". She is a great friend and never skips a stitch! I had forgotten just how special she is, so here she is in all her glory.

Leg Warmers on the Sock Knitting Machine

These are the leg warmers I was talking about. My friend wanted them to go over the knee so they needed to be extra long. They are 31 inches long and wide enough for average legs. You can see that I have ribbing on both ends so they will stay up on the leg and stay put at the ankle.
This is my Goldie! It's my favorite sock knitting machine and it's a work horse. Last week I made two pair of leg warmers for my friends. I have a picture of one pair. I was so excited about making the first pair that I forgot to get a picture before I gave them away. The first pair was made with regular sock yarn (self striping) and they were for a thin lady with small legs.
The second pair of leg warmers were a larger lady so I needed to adjust for bigger legs as well as make them longer for scrunching and folding down the leg. You will have to imagine them.

New camera

I just bought a new camera so I will be trying it out and posting new pictures on this blog very soon.
Because of the critters here I often need a mega zoom to capture Mother Nature at work. I did a lot of research and I purchased the Canon PowerShot digital camera. I only hope it was a wise investment (?)

One of these boys is a visitor. My boys are telling him to vamoose! E-Gads! There aren't enough girls for 3 young bucks.

Little Buck and Big Buck, what more can I say. They are handsome dudes and would say Big Buck is probably the father of the babies. I just hope they don't end up in someone's freezer.

This is the love of my life! She thinks she's a lap dog and lays on my lap while take naps or knitting. I can set my pattern on her back while I'm knitting. She doesn't mind it a bit. I can even have my beads sitting there and she doesn't spill them.
This picture was taken last winter; I groom her myself. I love this dog!!

This is our resident owl. He/she entertains us every morning with his chanting to another owl nearby. They call back and forth to each other until the sun is up fully. I just love God's creatures!

Mardi Gras Shawl

This is my Mardi Gras shawl knitted several months ago. It was a knit along with Goddess Knits and in my opinion she out did herself on this one. It took me a long time to get pictures of this beauty and I don't think I captured it yet. But it's the best I can do. There isn't one square inch that doesn't have beads. It's unbelievable!
I used Silk Thread from Blue Moon Fiber Arts in the colorway called Korppi. It is purple and green and way more beautiful than I can describe while being paper thin or shear that you can see through it! This yarn is 100% silk with one hank being 1250 yards/99 grams! I hope you like it.

It's Gone, My Pet Fish is Gone!

YOU TURKEY!

That's my pet fish! Actually he's a Heron looking for a free lunch. You can see we put netting over the top of the pond to keep the Herons, Kingfisher and Osprey out of our pond. It worked well for the Kingfisher. The Osprey tried once and left without a meal and this buzzard keeps coming back. He's on top of the netting, pushing it into the water and pulls the fish up through the mesh to eat it.

After these pictures were taken we put a fence around the perimeter of the pond and raised the netting across the top of the fence.

DID THAT WORK? NO!

Today, the Heron was in the pond anyway! I released my mean dogs (3 Poodles) ! And they ran around the fenced pond barking at him, which scared him a lot. But he couldn't just fly out. He had to retreat the same way he got in. THROUGH THE FENCE!! Being animal lovers, we brought the mean dogs into the house and watched the buzzard walk through the 4 inch hole in the fence.

It will be spring soon and the fish can have fun spawning again. That's always fun to watch as the males chase the females around and bump their mid section. Then watching the baby fish swimming and growing and changing color is entertaining too.

U.S. made Harmony Knitter; Sold!

This is my great sock knitting machine the Harmony. It was made in the 80's in Harmony, Maine. I decided to sell her (it) because I wasn't using it as much as my Bronze New Zealand Auto Knitter. But now I miss her as I look at the last sock I made on it. I made this sock to prove to the buyer that she (it) really does knit and rib. She's gone now. Boo Hoo!

Robin (my husband) took this picture today and I just had to share with you. It looks like a picture post card,but it's just home to us.

I've been busy knitting gifts lately. I've included pictures of a couple of scarves knitted for gifts.
This is Fiber Trends Cacoon Lace Scarf, designed by Evelyn Clark. I used Kid Seta yarn in Gold and needle size 7.
This is Mariloise's Scarf - This pattern was published in Interweave Knits magazine Fall 2001. It is also in "Stahman's Shawls & Scarves" by Myrna Stahman. In the book it's called The Marialis Seamen's Scarf.

I used Jaggerspun Zepher in Ebony with size 5 needles. This is an easy knit.

Slow Bee 1

I finished this shawl about 6 weeks ago, but I've been too busy to post a picture. This has been a wonderful knit along with Monika Eckert in Germany http://www.pattern.klabauterwolle.de
She named this mystery knit along shawl Slow Bee 1.
I used Malabrigo Lace weight yarn in Vaa colorway along with U.S. size 4 needles. Although they don't show up in the picture, there are many, many beads through out.

From the Heart to my Sister in Law

This is Cabo Waves shawl pattern from Rainy K. I used Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece in Teddy Bear color. It measures 39" x 93" and it's soft and cozy.
I made this for my Sister in law, Ranea who is going through some tough times health wise. I thought she would have a lot of time curled up on the couch or even in the hospital, so this is my prayer shawl for her. Every stitch was made with God's help and every bead has a silver lining for good health.

Mystery Shawl 9

This is a pattern from Goddess Knits. It measures 35"x75", done in Handmaiden Sea Silk in Bronze colorway. I used U.S. needle size 4 and size 8 to bind off.

I gave Renee (Goddess Knits) negative opinion about the web site she now uses for her knit alongs. She doesn't use Yahoo Groups which is very user friendly for emails, photos and many choices for posting etc. Instead Renee uses a web site from Simple Machines. Photos have to posted to another web site with a link to Simple Machines. Posts are scattered through out the web site depending on the topic used by the poster/participant.

Another thing I'm not fond of is the mystery clues are jammed into 5 parts. You have to knit like crazy to keep up. In my opinion, the whole idea of knit alongs is the communication and camaraderie with other knitters. With Goddess Knits knit alongs, you don't have time to form friendships with all the pressure to keep up. She's a very talented designer and this is a business for her. I have to remember that in the future.

Triinu's Vine and Leaf Shawl

Slow Bee 1 - Clue 3, Design 1

I finished clue 3 a couple of days ago, but I couldn't get the light right to take pictures. This will be the last pictures until it's finished because it's getting too big to show the designs. I'm very happy with the way this is turning out and I still love the yarn.

If you click on one of the pictures you can see more detail and you can see the beads! They are so beautiful in green.

Slow Bee 1 Knit Along

I started the Slow Bee 1 knit along yesterday, May 14th. I'm using Malabrigo Lace yarn in the color Vaa and U.S. size 4 needle. I'm going to go up a needle size after seeing pictures of another member's shawl because I think mine is coming out too dense and not lacey enough.
I decided to stay with the size 4 needles.

Mystic Light Knit Along

I finished this project on May 9th. This was an interesting knit. I used Fleece Artist Merino 2/6 machine washable hand dyed fingering weight yarn and U.S. size 7 needle. Red size 8 seed beads are through out the shawl. This is the original design of Anna Dalvi http://knitandknag.blogspot.com
The really interesting thing to me is that this shawl was knit entirely continental style (left hand knitting). Because I have rheumatoid arthritis, 4 months ago I decided I needed an alternative way of knitting to relieve the joints in my right hand and wrist. I started by making two Baby Surprise Jackets with all garter stitch to teach myself the continental knit stitch. Then I started this shawl with purl stitches, yarn overs, etc. I have perfected my technique and after 50 years of throwing my yarn I can now pick proficiently.

Hemlock Ring Lap Blanket

This is the Hemlock Ring Lap Blanket. Very easy knitting with Cascade Eco Wool and U.S. size 10.5 needles. This is about 4 feet across making it not easy to block! But the knitting was really easy. This was taken from a doily pattern then just enlarged by using heavy worsted weight yarn and large needles.

Triinu Vine and Leaf Shawl

This took me quite a while to knit, but it was always interesting. It is knit in lace weight 100% cashmere with U.S. size 5 needles. I did not block it hard because I added to the length and width. It measures 90 inches across and 45 inches long. The color is Dark Natural purchased from Colourmart in England.
I would have to look back in my blog archives to see when I started this project. I only know that it took me months to knit. Partly because I had to keep track of every stitch on every row. Other than that, this was not difficult, but it sure looks like it was! I love this one!!

Mystery Stole 3

Another finished project! This one took me a long time because each segment was a clue that I was able to keep up with easily. The original design had a wing on one side and the point you see on the other side. When I was working on the wing I was not happy with the asymmetrical look, so I removed the wing. Then started another piece to match the first and graphed the two together.
You can see a glint of the beads through out this piece and that was the effect I was trying for. I finished this piece and blocked it on October 5th. Now I'm back to working on Triinu's Vine and Leaf Shawl.

Icelandic Lace Shawl

Here it is finished! This is a knit along started on September 3rd, I finished mine and blocked it on September 16. The finished measurements are 73" wide - 32" long. I used Jaggerspun Heather colors and a size U.S. 6 needles. This was an easy project and I'm very happy with the way it turned out. I think I might make another one using heavier weight yarn and larger needles. What do you think?
