Yesterday I shot video at a great wedding!!! Carlie and Gabriel from Gabriel Ryan Photographers shot photography… they are awesome.

Today it Vu’s birthday!!! Happy birthday Vu!!! We shot a great wedding today and here is us getting some cake and calling it Vu’s birthday cake. Yay!

Today Bonny and I brought Vu out to eat dinner for his birthday (which is tomorrow). Vu loves fettuccine carbonara, it is usually not on the menu at restaraunts… So of it is a good place they will make it.

Aaron and I met our July 4th couple at the Venue. We played out what would happen.

Canh Chua, Ca Kho and rice!!! Bonny and I are eating Vietnamese food before a long night of work.

I’ve been traveling a lot and shooting a lot but have not been able to sit down and edit all the shoots!!! Tonight I have about 4 photo shoots to edit and a bunch of video footage to go through.

I’m here at the Furious Photographers studio to meet with Lawrence for planning of some great new things. Not much to say… It’s all in the video.

Ritz Carlton Laguna Niguel Wedding Photography lighting workshop

Today we are having a lighting workshop for photographers at the Ritz Carlton Laguna Niguel. I believe the attendees are mostly wedding photographers. I’ve never stayed a the Ritz Carlton in Laguna Niguel before last night (well any Ritz Carlton either) and it was pretty nice! The workshop is going to cover how to use off camera lighting, just like the lighting I use on location at weddings. We chose the Ritz Carlton in Laguna Niguel because it is close to a lot of wedding photographers and Furious Photographers was already having another workshop so the room was available and it made sense to have it for wedding photographers to use to make their wedding photography much better with an off camera lighting workshop.

Just from being here is look like it is a great place to have a wedding. I would love to shoot a wedding at the Ritz Carlton Lagua Niguel or any Ritz Carlton… Wedding photography at great locations like this are awesome. Here is a photo from the Ritz Carlton Lagua Niguel:

I took these headshots in Los Angeles of Felicia Day a few weeks ago. As you can see from the video we had a blast doing the photo shoot. We took a bunch of fun headshots, serious headshots, crazy headshots and just the standard beautiful headshots (as you can see). YAY!!! I’m so excited!!!

Canon 5D Mark II just released a firmware update v1.1.0 for manually focusing their video functions. Canon 5D MII is the flagship for HD video capture coupled with full-frame DSLR.

I just loaded the Canon 5D Mark II (MII) firmware v1.1.0 and it worked wonderfully! Below is a demonstration on how I can

- Manually adjust aperture for DOF
- Manually adjust shutter to control entry of light
- Manually adjust ISO for low light and intentional noise / grain

Despite also being a fan of Nikon, Canon’s 5D MII truly won my heart. I use it for all of my headshots (mostly taken in Los Angeles and Orange County) and portrait photography (both celebrity portraits and senior portraits).

Bonny (Bonny is my wife for those of you who don’t know) just had a tumor removed. The doctor said it is 99% chance that it is benign but must wait until they look at it in detail to really say for sure. It was attached to her nerves in her pelvis so removing it was a pretty major surgery. They looked at all of her organs and everything looks perfect.

Thank you everyone who twittered, called and texted with your thoughts and prayers. It really means a lot to Bonny and I.

Oh… and it was pretty funny that the machine hooked up to Bonny said FAIL on it.

Yesterday we (we being the NAS Productions crew: Josh Allard, Megan Christofferson and Kevin Calumpit, and I) shot a wedding video for a beautiful and awesome couple (don’t worry, I’ll link up this video in a few days) that Gene Higa referred to us. I had the chance to meet Natalie and Liz from Liz Beck Weddings and Events. All I have to say about Liz Beck Weddings and Events is… grade A awesomeness!!!

Liz and Natalie made me and my crew feel so welcomed and taken care of. I never knew it was up to the planner/coordinator to cater to us, it probably isn’t… so they might just be really good people.

So if you are looking for a wedding planning I would highly recommend looking for these two girls from Liz Beck Weddings and Events to help you.

Lawrence and Doug left today, so Vu and I went on an excursion!!!

We went on the Jungle tour in Cancun on jet ski’s. The jungle tour brings you through the lagoon in Cancun out to the ocean then you get to go snorkeling. It was really fun. The jet skiing in Cancun was the coolest part of the jungle tour. Watch the video to see what it was like!

Today Lawrence and Doug rented a car (Vu drove) and we went across the Yucatan peninsula to visit the Mayan ruins of Coba.

Here is a long clip of my climb on the tallest ruins in the Yucatan peninsula.

We also stopped at a water hole, the cave, and hung out for a little while. The drive was long, but after three day of shooting weddings and a day after session it was a great way to relax.

Today Lawrence and Doug rented a car (Vu drove) and we went across the Yucatan peninsula to visit the Mayan ruins of Coba.

This is a long clip of my climb on the tallest ruins in the Yucatan peninsula.

It is shot handheld (yep, no stedi cam or any other camera stabilization at all) with a 5d mark II and a 28mm 1.8 lens.

Today we went to Tulum and rented two boats for the day after session for Tiffany and Ly, yesterdays couple. It was awesome.

We were flown to Cancun by Doug and Lawrence (Furious Photographers) to shoot a photographer’s promo video of them. They somehow booked two weddings back to back in Cancun… with a Day After session after the second wedding (which actually won’t happen until tomorrow).

As part of our project we were also delivering a short video for each couple, so we were essentially shooting two videos at each wedding. For Tiffany and Ly, we decided to do a same-day edit of their AMAZING wedding incorporating photos shot by Doug and Lawrence. Their photos were great, and we got some wonderful footage. I suppose you’d call this a same-day fusion-video, using both photos and video together instead of one or the other or two separate presentations.

We’ll be doing a full edit in the coming weeks, but this is what we showed at the reception, thankfully to a oohs and aahs then a wonderful applause at the end. Tiffany and Ly were literally a dream couple to work with… not just by having a gorgeous wedding but as people who were genuine, easy going and just plain fun.

TECH: Obviously there was no time for adjustments, effects or transitions, those will come later. For those wondering, it was shot on a 5D mark II and a Canon HV20 on a Steadicam Merlin, edited in Final Cut Pro, exported and sent to iMovie to add the photos (because it’s easy!). The video was presented on a MacBook Pro to the guests and delivered to the couple on an iPod Touch. Furious Photographers don’t fool around.

Vu and I shot part of Lawrence and Doug’s promo video for their wedding business Furious Photographers today. It was one of the best locations I’ve ever been to. Here is a screenshot from a clip of video we shot:

It was an amazing location on Isla Mujeres, an island off the coast of Cancun, and I can’t wait to get to editing the video we shot.

Vu and I arrived at night, hung out with Lawrence and Doug for a bit and took a look at our room.

We are here to shoot a photographers promo video for Furious Photographers, I think it will be one of our best photographers promo videos ever.
