Raya

LANGKAWI: Companies operating passenger ferry services in Langkawi have given an assurance that ferry services for Aidilfitri are adequate and additional services will be provided to meet the expected rise in demand.
Langkawi Ferry Services operations officer Nurul Fakri Ahmad said more than 5,000 tourists were expected to come to Langkawi each day during the festive season and the situation would be hectic with people returning to the resort island to spend the Hari Raya.
He said the additional services would be available from Thursday to meet the demands of the tourists and members of the public.
"Twenty return trips are expected to be provided between Langkawi and Kuala Perlis as well as Kuala Kedah," he said when contacted by Bernama today.
He said the number of trips could be raised further if there was demand from the public. -- BERNAMA

PRESS STATEMENT - Mishandling of turtles in Perhentian Island

WWF-Malaysia has received tremendous response from concerned individuals who are disgusted by what they saw in the pictures and video currently circulating on Facebook which display irresponsible acts on a turtle carried out by Perhentian Setia Travel & Tours Sdn Bhd. The video and pictures show a distressed turtle that was brought up to the surface, manhandled, restrained and rode upon for the snorkellers' delight.

These conducts clearly contravene Section 27 of the Fisheries Act 1985 which states that 'No person shall fish for, disturb, harass, catch or take any aquatic mammal or turtle which is found beyond the jurisdiction of any State in Malaysia'. Anyone found guilty can be fined an amount not exceeding RM5000.

In view of this, WWF-Malaysia has contacted the enforcement agencies and provided them with the relevant video and pictures related to the incident for their investigation and further action. If found guilty the penalty may not amount to much, but what we are hoping for is an increased awareness among the public that snorkelling activities such as this should be completely rejected. It is disheartening to witness the tourists harassing the turtle and WWF-Malaysia needs more members of the public to help spread the message so that these incidents do not occur again.

Should the public encounter any future issues regarding marine turtles, we would encourage you to also report the matter to us, as well as to the Department of Fisheries (abkhalil@dof.gov.my, chekley@dof.gov.my) and Department of Marine Parks (fariha@nre.gov.my). Early reporting of such incidents will enable the authorities to take swift action. We would like to thank you again for your support to these ancient marine creatures.

SkyCab

The Base Station is conveniently located on foothill of the Machincang mountain. From here, visitors will be taken up to the cool Machincang mountain via the cablecar system. The ride will be an exhilarating experience for everyone to enjoy. You will also be able to catch a glimpse of the flora and fauna that surrounds the area.

An intermediate cablecar station on the eastern ridges provides the much desired access to the eastern cliffs with its 3 vertical chimneys and the beautiful 360-degree views. For the first time, visitors would be able to observe at close range the unique geological formations of the Machincang range, which was formed around 450 million years ago.

The journey from the Base Station to Middle Station will cover 1,700 meters in distance and upon reaching the Middle Station at an elevation of 650m above sea level, visitors will be able to alight and walk up to the viewing platforms. Visitors will enjoy panoramic view of the main island as well as the many surrounding islands. They will also be able to observe at close range the unique flora on the ridges and the forested valley between the Middle Station and the Top Station.

A short walk up the stairs from the Top Station will take visitors to the two viewing platforms at the top of Machincang mountain. Visitors will be amazed at the unfolding dramatic views from the platforms, the many unique and exciting features of Machincang, are dominating rock tower peaks providing spectacular 360 degrees panoramic views of the Langkawi islands and Southern Thailand as well as dramatic views of the deep chasms, overhangs cliff walls, isolated pinnacles and some caves. Such nature monuments are seldom seen anywhere else in this combination except in Langkawi.

The overruling height of Machincang mountain, its commanding views over Langkawi, the western sea coast, and the dramatic views over the funnel with its staggered rock blocks will make the visitors wonder in amazement and bring the visitors so close to nature that they can practically touch it.

SkyBridge

Completed in 2004, this suspended bridge is built on top of the Machinchang mountain. Accessible from the Top Station, the bridge is suspended from a 82m high single pylon and hangs at about 100m above ground. It swings out over the landscape to give visitors a unique spatial experience, and to bring them into otherwise unattainable locations, above virgin jungle with spectacular views. Notably, in contrast to a straight bridge, where the end is always monotonously in sight, a curved bridge offers spectacularly changing perspective that reinvent themselves, as one proceeds along it.

Measuring at 125m in length, the structure ranks among the world’s longest curve suspension bridge and constructing it was not an easy feat as the solutions had to factor the following critical elements; structural balancing from a single point (top of the pylon), optimal weight management and load distribution, pre-fabrication of bridge and on site installation. The entire bridge, in all its elements had to be lifted to the top of the mountain by helicopter and was later assembled to its current position.

One of the attractions in Kuala Lumpur, which you must visit is the PETRONAS Twin Towers. This super structure was build in 1994 and were completed in mid of 1996. The official opening was on 31st Aug 1999 by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the 4th Prime Minister of Malaysia. Standing at a height of 452 meters above street level, the PETRONAS Twin Towers is the tallest in the world with 88 floors in total. PETRONAS Twin Towers was designed by a well known architect, Cesar Pelli & Associates from USA in association with KLCC architects. The design of each tower's floor plan is based on simple Islamic geometric forms of two interlocking squares creating a shape of eight-pointed stars. Architecturally, these forms reflect important Islamic principles of "unity within unity, harmony, stability and rationality".
Structure
* The hollow space between the towers is linked by the Skybridge at levels 41 and 42 (Sky Lobby).
* An annexe that reaches the 44th floor is attached to each tower.
* To maintain the vertical axis and tapering of the design, each tower is set back five times in its ascent. The wall in the uppermost floors slope inward to taper and meet the pinnacle.

Pulau Payar

About 19 nautical miles south of Langkawi, there is one island called Pulau Payar. This island is the best place for snorkeling while you are in Langkawi. Payar Island is one of the Marine Park in Malaysia and the only one in the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia. There are many tour agency and boat operators that serve to bring tourists to Payar Island for a day trip which is only limit to 700 peoples in one day. The journey from Langkawi to Payar Island takes about 45 minutes with a fast ferry and you will have to spend whole day in Payar Island until around 3pm before you will be transfer back to Langkawi.

The activities that you can participate while in Payar Island are snorkeling, fish feeding, sharks feeding and scuba diving. For scuba diving there are two different packages, scuba diving for those who have licensed and intro dive which is for those who don't have licensed. Snorkeling is nice especially during the sharks feeding, baby sharks to be precise! Lunch is provided by the tour and boat operators but I advice you to bring extra mineral water just in case the weather gets to hot and humid.

Pulau Dangli

Dangli Island is located at the north of Langkawi which is not far from Tanjung Rhu Beach, about 2 nautical miles. Not many people knows that this small island is also good for snorkeling although there are many boat operators that bring tourists to this island during Mangrove Tour. However, snorkeling at Dangli Island is only suitable during neap tide, maybe this is the reason why it is less promoted as a snorkeling destination in Langkawi. If you would like to go here for snorkeling make sure it is during neap tide, one easy way to know whether the sea is on a neap tide is to see the moon, if it is half moon it means neap tide and the water is clear, full moon means the current is strong and the water is not clear enough for snorkeling. You can rent a boat from Tanjung Rhu and the trip is usually takes around 2 hours.

Apart from the snorkeling in this island, another attraction to this island is the flying fox. It's a huge kind of fruit bats, hanging on the tree branches and it's easy to see them while you are in your boat because they likes to make noise and flap their wings. It is black in color on the back and brown in color on the chest.

*tips: make sure the boat has a good snorkeling gears
: make sure it is during neap tide
: do not walk on corals - avoid damaging the corals.
                                          - avoid injury due to sea urchins.

Pulau Beras Basah

Pulau Beras Basah or Wet Rice Island is one of the island which is included in the Island Hoping trip. If you join the Island Hoping trip, this is the last island out of the 3 islands during the Island Hoping, and you probably can do snorkeling here if the water condition is good. Just like Dangli Island, it is only good to snorkel on this island during neap tide. If you would like to snorkel here, I advice you to charter a boat just to send you to this island and pick you up after 2 or 3 hours, they called it island drop.

*tips: make sure the boat has a good snorkeling gears
: make sure it is during neap tide
: do not walk on corals - avoid damaging the corals.
                                          - avoid injury due to sea urchins.
Pulau Perak - Scuba Diving

In my last post, I did mention about deep-sea fishing in Langkawi which is in Pulau Perak, however Pulau Perak is not just for fishing, it is actually a good location for scuba diving. But, this remote island is far from Langkawi and it is quite expensive if you would like to make a scuba diving trip to this island. It is better for you to come with a small group, 8 or more peoples and share the cost. Just like deep-sea fishing trip to Pulau Perak, not many bot operators serve to bring divers to Pulau Perak, but it can be arrange! If you have interest to go there for scuba diving, you can find out more with East Marine Holidays and to read more about Pulau Perak scuba diving experience, you can visit the Cyber Captain
In this post I would like to discuss the deep-sea fishing in Langkawi Island. There are many deep-sea fishing locations available around Langkawi, but in this post I would like to focus on a deep sea fishing locations that I like most, that is the 'Pulau Perak' which is also known as 'Tukun Perak'. Among the types of fish that anglers sought are Giant Trevaly, Blue Fin Tuna, Yellow Fin Tuna, Raibow Runner, Sail Fish, Marlin, Dorado, Coral Trout, Red Snaper, Giant Grouper and others.

'Pulau Perak' is located in the south west of Langkawi Island. This small island can also be reached from Penang. There are several boat rental operators who provide fishing trip to 'Pulau Perak'. Some say 'Pulau Perak' is lack of fish and no longer be the preferred location for anglers, I think this opinion is not true. You need to know the appropriate time, sufficient equipments and techniques for fishing in this remote island. And also you need a good captain and fishing guide in order to make your fishing trip successful.

If you want to fish here, I suggest you to focus on jiging and popping techniques. This 2 techniques has never failed me. For popping technique, you must carry large Popper which is 100 grams and above, a good fishing rod measuring 8 feet or 8 feet and a half, tough reel like the Shimano Stella or Daiwa Saltiga equiped with a braided line of 60 pounds to 80 pounds. In addition, you must also change the original treble hook to the strength of 4X, the brand I frequently use is Owner. For jiging technique, I suggest you to bring along jigs weighing over 150 grams, the appropriate reel and short jiging rod measuring 5 or 7 feet. Gloves and fighting belt is also important to help you fight the big fish. I suggest you focus on these techniques during the day and at night just focus on bottom fishing or drift fishing techniques.

There are two types of boats for fishing in 'Pulau Perak', speed boats and big wooden boats with diesel engine. I recommend you to use a speed boat, eventhough it is small and not very comfortable compared to the big wooden boats. This is because you can save time by just renting the boat and fishing for 2 days only compared with the big wooden boats with diesel engine that require at least 3 days. Speed boat ride only takes between 2 to 3 hours, where a big wooden boat with diesel engine takes 8 to 10 hours. By hiring a speed boat the journey will be fast and you have more time for fishing.

The best time to fish at 'Pulau Perak' is from the month of October until March. At this time the wind blows from the east of Peninsular Malaysia and caused the sea on the west to be calm and not choppy. However, the weather at sea is difficult to predict, good weather and calm seas can change overnight. You must be prepared to face any eventuality. The experience that I can not forget when we fishing at 'Pulau Perak' was facing a wave of 2 to 3 meters height during our trip home. Normally, with a speed boat it only takes about 2 or 3 hours, but on that day it tooked us up to 8 hours to get to Langkawi. Therefore, I only recommend 'Pulau Perak' for hardcore anglers who are willing to face of all the possibilities in order to achieve fishing satisfaction.
This is one of the best resort in Langkawi, this luxury resort is located in Datai Bay. Surrounded by virgin rainforest and the white sandy beach of Datai Bay. The Andaman Resort is overlooking the Andaman Sea and you can see Tarutoa Island (Thailand) which is only about 5 miles from the Datai Bay. If you are looking for luxury resort and at the same time would like to enjoy the mother nature, I truly recommended The Andaman Resort. Click here for more info and online booking.
This is one resort that I recommend, surrounded by a virgin rain forest on the foot of Mat Chinchang Range and a white sandy beach over looking the Andaman Sea. It has a spa with many different type of treatment, 5 restaurant 2 lounge 1 pool bar and 8 different type of rooms. Berjaya Resort is just a walking distance to Langkawi Cable Car and Oriental Village, there are many different types of restaurants and shopping outlets within the Oriental Village area. Click here for more info and online booking.

If you are coming to Langkawi with a large family looking for a cheap accommodation, you should consider renting a local house, better known as homestay. There are many homestay available in Langkawi undertaken by individuals and local assosiation. From my observations, there are two types of homestay provided by the homestay operators in Langkawi, staying with local families homestay and living alone homestay at a provided house. To choose which one should you rent depends on the comfort and your budget. If you want a new experience you may choose to stay in a homestay with Malay family and if you want privacy, choose to live alone in a separate house homestay.

In this post, I would like to share some information about a homestay run by Mr Hamzah Osman. Located in the middle-class neighborhood, 3 bedroom terrace house has been renovated to serve as a very beautiful homestay and complete with amenities. Mr.Hamzah homestay debuted about a year ago with his wife Mrs. Mazni Sahadan and is committed to making his homestay among the best in Langkawi. What is most interesting is the service provided by Mr Hamzah, he always ensures that equipment such as refrigerators and air conditioners etc. are always in good condition. To me, this is very important to ensure that all visitors are satisfied and will come back to Langkawi for their next holiday.

For large families or those who want to stay in Langkawi for a longer time and want to save money on accommodations, I recommend to stay at Mr. Hamzah homestay. You may have to spend more considerably should you stay in an expensive hotel or resort.
In the excitement travelling in Langkawi, there are some things you need to know, so that your visit to Langkawi will be more meaningful and do not experience the painful memories. Here I would like to remind the tourists to remain vigilant and concerned about the 10 items listed below.

1) Self-Drive Car Rental
Many tourists coming to Langkawi like to rent self-drive car rental in which it is a very practical method for sightseeing in Langkawi. Tourists who rent self-drive car rental can move freely at the appropriate time as compared to hiring a taxi for a sightseeing. However, I want to remind you to only deal with self-drive car rental company or travel agency that only provides a valid self-drive rental vehicles . Although the travel agency has a valid license, that does not mean self-drive car rental service they provide have a valid permit. This is very important to make sure you do not have problems with the authorities. To ensure that the vehicle you hire has a valid permit, make sure that there are two stickers on the windscreen of the vehicle which is a road tax and another one is 'Hire and Drive' from the Road & Transport Department of Malaysia.

2) Water Sports at Chenang Beach
Water sports is like a must for visitors to Langkawi. Among the most popular location for water sports activities are Chenang Beach and Tengah Beach. I would like to remind you to only deal with the counter of the water-sports center. Do not deal and make payments to the beach boys wandering around the beach to get customers. There are many cases of fraud that occur on tourists by beach boys who are not honest. I remember the incident that happened to a couple of Middle Eastern countries that are dealing with a beach boy and had to pay to rent a jet ski. Beach boy asked them to take turns in one place, after they waited for a while, they were asked to the water sports center counter, then they realize that they have been duped.

3) A Biting Monkey
Various locations around Langkawi such as Bat Cave, the Seven Wells Waterfall, Temurun Waterfall, Durian Perangin Waterfall and along the Telaga Harbour road (in front of the Petronas petrol station) there were many monkeys around and waiting for tourists to give them free food. This has become a habit, every day, many tourists visit to these places and accidentally give them food. You are advised not to feed these monkeys. This is because, given food that is not part of their diet is not good for their health and will cause them to lose their nature due to being dependent on food provided by humans. What is more worrying, this monkey behavior is quite unpredictable, especially the male monkey who is the head of a monkey group. Male monkeys who became head of the group are often large and aggressive which is likely to bite if you do not give food that is in your hands. Therefore, it is better not to feed the monkeys in order to avoid untoward incidents occur.

4) Danger at Seven Wells Waterfall
Seven Wells Waterfall is one of the interesting locations to visit, especially when the rainy season in Langkawi. There are seven natural pools surrounded by tropical rainforest. The height of this waterfall as high as 80 meters with the scenery, you can also see the Langkawi Cable Car from the top of the waterfall. If you come here, I advise you to be careful at the peak of the waterfall and always follow the instructions provided by the signs. There are several waterfalls around the area with a mossy stones thereof, and very slippery, if you are not careful enough accidents may occur. There are several cases involving death from a fall from the top of the waterfall. Once again I advise you to be careful and always follow the instructions provided by the signs.

5) Buy tour package from a legal service counters
If you want to take a trip to the islands or any other tours, preferably you order and make payment over the travel counter or legal service counters. For example, if you want to take a Mangrove Tour trip, you can book the tour at the counters available in the hotel lobby or even counter service available at the jetty where boats discharge. Make sure you see the price tags on display and make sure the services offered, such as duration and places to be visited are included in package price.

6) Buffalo at night
If you are driving at night, I advise you to be cautious if you passing through the dark streets, particularly near rice fields. This is because there are many buffalo that roam around the street near the rice fields and rural villages. These buffalo will be crossing the road and can cause accidents. Therefore, I advise you to be careful driving at night to avoid an accident.

7) Do not drink and drive
Langkawi is a duty free island, so some items are very inexpensive when compared to other places in Malaysia, among which is the liquor and beer. Liquor and beer prices in Langkawi is very-very cheap and the purity is guaranteed . There are many entertainment centers around Langkawi for you to enjoy at night. It is not an offense for you to enjoy, however, I advise you not to drive to places of entertainment. It is better if you go and back to the hotel by taxi. There are many accidents caused by drunk drivers in Langkawi .

8) Make sure you do not have illegal drugs
If you enter Langkawi by ferry from Temelang in Satun, Southern Thailand make sure you do not have illegal drugs. The penalty for drug offenses in Malaysia is heavy, sentenced to death for drug trafficking is still practiced.

9) Say no to "Eagles Feeding"
Eagles feeding activity is very popular in Langkawi. Virtually every tourist who comes to Langkawi will be participating in a package, which is an eagle feeding activity. Among them is a Mangrove Tour and Island Hoping. When you join this tour, the boat skipper will give chicken skin as a food to the eagles in order to attract eagles come close to the boat. No doubt it was very exciting to see the eagles fly so close to you. However, given chicken skin to the eagles every day is very bad for the health of the eagles. Therefore, I suggest that you do not support the eagles feeding and if you take that trip, please tell the skipper of the boat not to feed the eagles. Enough to witness many eagles around the area.

10) Catch and release
if you join a fishing trip, make sure you practice catch and release, especially for small fish. Often when you join a fishing trip, you will catch small fish, mostly less than 1 kilo. I advise you to release it in order to conserve the marine life. Take picture!! even if the fish is small, it is more meaningful.

Europcar brings Charteau back to Malaysian roads of glory.

The overall winner of the 2007 Le Tour de Langkawi, Frenchman Anthony Charteau will be back to Malaysia after four years of absence. He’ll lead Team Europcar to a new challenge following their brilliant ride at the Tour de France last year with Thomas Voeckler wearing the yellow jersey in the mountains and Pierre Rolland winning the white jersey of best young rider in Paris.

“Le Tour de Langkawi has a special place in my heart”, said Charteau who was underestimated by the favorites in 2007 when he broke away to claim the victory in stage 3 to the Cameron Highlands. He defended his lead with great courage in Genting Highlands and proved later on to be a real climber as he won the King of the Mountain price of the 2010 Tour de France.

For two years, he rode for Caisse d’Epargne, but to his displeasure the Spanish team couldn’t line up at Le Tour de Langkawi. Back to his roots with Bbox Bouygues Telecom, now renamed Europcar, he won the Tour of Gabon back to back in the past two years, which kept him away from Malaysia. “But I’ve always wanted to ride Le Tour de Langkawi again despite the long trip from France”, Charteau said.

Yohann Gene had the same feeling after winning the last stage in Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur, in 2009. “Malaysia has the same kind of hot and humid climate as Guadeloupe where I come from”, said the 30 year old who became the first Frenchman from the Caribbean Islands to take part in the Tour de France last year.

Gene might be the lead out man for Europcar’s Italian recruit Matteo Pelucchi who is the team’s new sprinter from Italy. The French team also comes to Malaysia with a specialist of time trial, Jérome Cousin, and one of the country’s most promising riders, the 2008 European champion for the U23 road race Cyril Gautier who has been a member of the successful Tour de France team alongside Voeckler and Charteau in the past two years.

“The love affair between Jean-René Bernaudeau’s team and Le Tour de Langkawi is a long-living one”, commented the chief operating officer Emir Abdul Jalal. “They came as an amateur team called Vendée U to the very first LTdL back in 1996 and they returned in 2000 as soon as

they became a professional team under the name of Bonjour. Their very first pro win was stage 3 of Le Tour de Langkawi from Taiping to Sitiawan with Damien Nazon twelve years ago! We appreciate very much how faithful they are to our country and we strongly hope to see them
perform again this time around.”

THE EUROPCAR TEAM FOR THE 2012 LE TOUR DE LANGKAWI:

ANTHONY CHARTEAU, MATHIEU CLAUDE, YOHANN GENE, JÉROME COUSIN, CYRIL GAUTIER (ALL FRENCH), MATTEO PELUCCHI (ITA).

LTdL 2012 is organised by the National Sports Council as a mark of continuity to the organisation of the Ministry of Youth and Sports in 2010 and 2011 in collaboration with the Malaysian National Cycling Federation. The race maintains a 2.HC (Hors Classe) status and is recognised and
sanctioned by the UCI and UCI Asia Tour. LTdL 2012 is expected to feature 22 professional teams.

The 10 day race begins on February 24 with Individual time trial along a 20.3 km course in Putrajaya to kick off the race; followed by stage 2 Putrajaya – Melaka (151.0km); Stage 3 Ayer Keroh – Parit Sulong (187.6km); Batu Pahat – Muar (169.4km); Ayer Keroh – Pandan Indah (190km); Proton Shah Alam – Genting Highlands (108km); Bentong – Kuantan (205.8km); Pekan - Chukai (100.8km); Kemasik – Kuala Terengganu (165.7km) dan Tasik Kenyir – Kuala Terengganu (114.8km).
Racing at the 15th Asian Sailing Championships 2012 gets underway on 16 February through until 25 February 2012. Teams from 24 nations in Asia will gather in Langkawi, Malaysia ready to do battle for the 14 classes in Asian Championship titles.

Organized by the Malaysia Yachting Association and Asian Sailing Federation, the Asian Sailing Championships will match hot favorites alongside relative newcomers to the class. To be eligible to compete, all sailors must be members of their National Federation.

The 9th KFC Langkawi International Regatta Perdana 2012, which is scheduled during 08 February to 12 February 2012, will be an initial indicator of form and includes representatives from more than 13 nations. More than 240 sailors have confirmed their entry for this event.

With most of the racers competing at the LIRP 2012, and with a few more days of training and race course familiarity under their belts, there is any number of teams who will be leading the fleet and challenging for Asian Sailing Championship glory.

"Nine years ago, in 2003, Langkawi played host to its first International Regatta. Looking down the results leader board from the 2003, many of those names are now well known international sailors. I wish all of you competing at the Asian Sailing Championships 2012 a fantastic and memorable event and successful future sailing careers," commented Mohd Afendy, General Manager of the Malaysian Yachting Association. "We are all looking forward to racing in this fantastic location."

The MYA in association with 470 International is also organising a pre-Championship Racing Clinic led by world class coach Nick Drougas GRE), from 10 - 15 February 2012.

The Championship is being co-ordinated by Mohd Afendy, with the International Jury led by Bryan Willis (GBR), Ilker Bayinder (TUR) as Principal Race Officer and Barry Johnson (AUS) as Chief Measurer.
Dr Mahathir proposes Langkawi for Malaysia Open!!

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the patron of this year's BMW Malaysia Open, met event partners at a luncheon hosted by tournament organiser, Carbon Worldwide, last week.

BMW Malaysia managing director Geoffrey Briscoe, tournament director Keld Kristiansen and Lawn Tennis Association of Malaysia president Tan Sri Abdul Razak Latiff, were among the guests.

<span style="background-color: white;

Langkawi is a paradise for seafood lovers, in Langkawi almost all seafood in the seafood restaurants are the catch from Langkawi's fisherman. That's why the seafood is very fresh in Langkawi. There are many seafood restaurants scattered around the main island. Chenang Beach, Tengah Beach and Kuah Town is popular for it's fresh seafood restaurants. However, in your enthusiasm to enjoy the seafood of your dreams, I would like to advise you of some things you should know before you visit the restaurant of your choice.

Prevent yourself from the delusion of seafood on display live in an aquarium placed in front of the restaurant. Among the live seafood on display is as lobsters, groupers, crabs, tiger prawns, oysters and other things. Prices for live seafood is more expensive than the dead seafood. Although expensive, many people would want to try a live seafood. If you choose to enjoy live seafood , evasion yourself from the trick! seafood restaurant owners who are not honest will change the live seafood you have selected with the dead one. For those of you who rarely eat seafood you will not be able to distinguish when it is cooked.

To prevent you from defrauded by restaurant operators who are not honest, I advise you to select only seafood that has died. Actually, not much difference between the live seafood and the dead one. As I explained above, seafood in Langkawi is always very fresh. So, why pay more? and there may be deceived if you choose to enjoy the live seafood.

There are many interesting places in Langkawi that you can visit, most of these places can be visited by hiring a taxi, self drive car hire, rent bikes or participate in tour packages offered by travel agencies. There are also some activities that require you to rent a boat. Among the interesting places to visit which I suggest are Cabel Car, Mangrove Tour, Island Hoping, Payar Island Marine Park, Mahsuri Tomb, Chenang Beach-water sports, Eagle Square, Fishing Trip, Day Cruise & Sunset Cruise and Chenang Beach-night bazaar. However, there are many other interesting places that you can visit.

MANGROVE TOUR
Mangrove tour is the activity that you should not miss while in Langkawi. You will be taken to places of interest during this visit such as Bat Cave, Crocodile Cave, Floating Fish Farm and eagle feeding.

LANGKAWI CABLE CAR & SKY BRIDGE

Langkawi Cable Car and Sky Bridge is a very worthwhile places to visit. By using the Cable Car, it will take you to the top of Mount Mat Chincang with the height of 2000 feet. Langkawi Sky Bridge is one of the highest suspension bridge in the world.

PAYAR ISLAND MARINE PARK
This marine park is the only one located on the western side of Peninsular Malaysia and the only marine park with a floating platform in Southeast Asia. There are several tour operators that offer snorkelling and scuba diving packages to this marine park.

ISLAND HOPING

Island hoping is a visit to three islands by boat, these islands are 'Pulau Singa', 'Pulau Beras Basah' and 'Pulau Dayang Bunting'. This trip takes about 3 hours. The most interesting is a visit to 'Dayang Bunting Lake', located in 'Pulau Dayang Bunting'. This lake is a freshwater lake even though the border to the sea is only about 5 meters.

CHENANG BEACH - WATER SPORTS

Chenang Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in Langkawi, it is facing the andaman sea and has a very beautiful sunset. Here we have some water sports operators offering several types of water sports such as para sailing, jet ski, banana boat, wind surfing, water ski and others. If you want to have fun with water sports, I suggest you come to Chenang Beach because they are less expensive than hotels.

MAHSURI TOMB

This mausoleum is located in 'Kampung Mawat'. In this village where mahsuri lived until she was sentenced to death for having defamed with other man in the absence of her husband. Before Mahsuri's death, she cursed Langkawi will not be safe for seven generations. The curse is over now, some people believe Langkawi has developed due to Mahsuri curse has ended. Come visit the Mahsuri Tomb to find out more about the story of Mahsuri.
CHENANG BEACH- NIGHT BAZAAR

Lately, bazaar located along the coastal road of Chenang Beach has become a tourist attraction. This bazaar consists of a row of shops and stalls that sell a variety of souvenirs. Seafood restaurants are also abundant here, the seafood in this restaurants is very fresh. This is because seafood such as fishs, prawns, mussels and crabs are the result of the local fishermen catch. There are also imported seafood such as lobsters and oysters. Cafe and Bar are also commonly found in Chenang Beach , most are owned by foreign nationals residing in Langkawi.

SUNSET CRUISE & DAY CRUISE
Sunset cruise and day cruise is one of my most recommended activities. This is because most of us rarely have the opportunity to board the luxury yacht. Sure this will give good memories during your holiday in Langkawi, especially if you come for your honeymoon.

FISHING TRIP

Fishing is my favorite activity when I was in Langkawi. Indeed, the island of Langkawi is one of the most popular fishing spot among local anglers. There are many fishing locations you can go fishing and catch your first fish even if you do not have any fishing experience. This is because the government often make artificial reefs around the waters of Langkawi for fish breeding. If you bring your kids, I'm sure they will have fun too.

EAGLE SQUARE

Eagle Square is one of the landmarks of Langkawi that welcomes visitors arriving by ferry. It is located near the ferry terminal. Because the word Langkawi which means eagle, the government has built a statue of an eagle as a symbol and landmark of Langkawi. The best time to visit the Eagle Square is at sunset, you will be able to record the views of the beautiful background of the eagle and the sunset.

If your hobby is fishing, maybe you can consider Langkawi as one of your fishing destination. Whether you come with family or friends, Langkawi is a fishing location you should visit. No matter whether you prefer to use lures or live bait, there are many fishing locations you can explore. I personally prefer using lures when fishing in Langkawi , one of my favorite lures when casting is Rapala XRap Xtreme Action Slashbait 10cm. These lures have never disappointed me and it is a perfect lure if you are targeting GT , often I get more fish than my friends who use other lures.

Rapala Xrap

Rapala Xrap orange color as in this picture is my favorite color, I often use this color from other colors. My other favorite colors is purple, pink and white. Surface lures are also good to use, especially when the water is calm, but nothing could match the power of Rapala Xrap. It can be used during calm or choppy water. If you are targeting grouper or fish that live on the sea bed, my suggestion is to use Rapala Xrap Deep Diving or use a Jig for jigging if the water is deeper.

There are many fishing locations in Langkawi, you will need a chartered boat to go fishing at this location. Among the sites I frequently visit are Tanjung Rhu, Pulau Dangli, Teluk Datai, Tama, Pulau Timun, Pulau Kentut Kecil, Genting, Pulau Cepu, Pulau Jong, Gok Seribu, Tukun Takat, Kapal Karam, Tuas Teriang and Tukun Batik. There are also a relatively remote location for fishing and require you to stay in the boat for a night. These fishing spot are Pulau Perak, Tukun Kapal 145 and Tukun Jenahak.

If you are fishing around Langkawi by using lures, it is sufficient to use a light or medium set with a braided line not more than 30pn. You need a heavier set if your go to the remote location I mentioned earlier. But remember to change the treble hook to a stronger one, anglers often missed a big fish due to the broken treble hook. If you would like to fishing in Langkawi, please contact Wahab (+6)0136295939, happy fishing...

If you come to Kuala Lumpur, do visit the night market at Jalan TAR. This is the best night market for you to visit during your stay in Kuala Lumpur. Open as early as 4 pm to 10 pm, this night market is about 500 meters long. Even if you just want to wander and experience being at the night market, I suggest you try a taste of local food. There are many food stalls along this night market.During my visit here, I have had the opportunity to try out 'Laksa'. Honestly it is the most delicious 'Laksa' I've ever eat.

Around the night market, there are many shops selling by retail and wholesale fabric that is at Jalan Masjid India, jewelry shops are also abundant here. Not far from the night market there is a famous shopping center of SOGO, a beautiful mosque 'Masjid Jamek' is also located not far from the night market.
