Standard Procedure For Legal Documentation in Malaysia

Info on general wedding documentation procedures...

General wedding documentation procedures:

- Oath taking / signing ceremony will be done in the registration office.

- Option – special request for the oath taking / signing ceremony can be done in the hotel with additional amount will be implement for the registrar to conduct the ceremony.

A minimum stay is no longer required for the intending couple. However, for those staying less than a month in Malaysia, you need to obtain special approval from the Chief Minister Department.

Therefore, we would like to recommend a minimum stay of 5—7 nights in any destination to ensure sufficient time to complete all documentations and bureaucratic procedures in Langkawi

Once all documentations are complete for the intending couple, the wedding can be solemnized in the same week or in any week you choose.

Documentation you should prepare beforehand:

Photocopies of both parties’ birth certificates
Photocopies of Passport for both parties
Two (2) latest photographs each (32mm x 38mm)
If either one or both is a divorcee, proof from Decree Absolute is required.
If either one or both is a widow, please submit a photocopy of death certificate.
If there was a change of name by Deed Pool – please provide proof.
Both parties need a statutory declaration stating their marital status stamped and signed by an endorsed solicitor.

* (For Australian Only) A single status obtained from local registry to certify that you have never been married, which you will be issued a certificate of "No Record" is required and this particular document has to be stamped at the Malaysian Embassy Office

* (For Australian Only) if you are a divorcee, please produce your divorce paper to be stamped at either the Commonwealth office or the Malaysian Embassy.

Two (2) witnesses are required for the solemnization of the wedding, if the bride or the groom prefers to have their friends or relatives as their witnesses, please submit their passport details to us; nonetheless our wedding specialist can arrange it locally.

Service Package Includes:

Registration fee in Langkawi, High Commission Department and Ministry Foreign Affair in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia
Government stamping fee in Langkawi and Ministry Foreign Affair in Kuala Lumpur
Transportation on Oath-taking day
Transportation on wedding registration day
Wedding certificate translation fee
Transportation cost to Kuala Lumpur for endorsement at High Commission and Ministry Foreign Affair Department
Consultation Fee - before and after during the emailing.

Important Notes:

- All document must be translated to English

- All document (unless stated otherwise) for processing must be in original copy and must be couriered to us (for safety reason)

- Both parties are required to bring along the photocopies of all documents.

- The documents must be available when the wedding couple is performing oath taking and registration.

The day start with drizzling diamond in the air (rain). Such a beautiful morning and very relaxing for both couple. Yet, they were enjoying the rainy day throughout their stay here on this lovely island. The photo session start with their marriage registration at the LADA building. While at the same time they were planning to have their intimate wedding ceremony by the beach at The Andaman Resort during the sunset hour.

I can't predict either we would have a sunny or rainy day. Luckily , we had a beautiful and bright sunny day with the beautiful cloud in the blue sky. Having a good weather is one of an advantage and the main ingredient for me to build up my confident and entusiasm to start the photography session.

Last but not least, enjoy the photos.

Wow... It has been awhile I did not update the blog. Not that busy but seems like I couldn't find an appropriate time to update the blog. Anyway, what are we missing here.... Let's have a look;

Langkawi Cable Car : Night Operation

Yep, you got that right. Langkawi Cable Car will extend their operation hour until 10 pm from Friday to Sunday and also during Public Holiday. Thrill?? Absolutely yes. Riding the gondola at night to the top of mount mat chincang is a new experience / adventure. It is really amazing to see the beautiful of Langkawi at night from the peak of the mountain.

Matrimony In Langkawi Island Malaysia

Have you recently popped the question? Or are you thinking of a romantic second wedding to renew your vows here in the tropics? Well, you have plenty of options for a truly special day in a variety of amazing places across Malaysia.

Your wedding day. The most beautiful, memorable, special, frightening and difficult to plan day of your life.

Here in Malaysia, you can make the biggest day of your life into something beyond your wildest dreams with a sensational beach wedding, intimate garden affair or even a luscious tropical rainforest setting.

Letter Of The Law

Before we explore some of the more incredible venues for your nuptials, it is probably as well to settle any concerns you may have about the legalities of getting married here in Malaysia.

Every married couple in Malaysia must be registered in accordance with a Registrar/Assistant registrar. The law is very straightforward and follows traditional Western values regarding divorce, bigamy, being at lest 18 years old and so on.

Expatriates getting married in Malaysia must follow several requirements in order to make sure their union is fully legal and recognized. Firstly, a license must be obtained from the Registration Office. For this, many pieces of documentation are required, so make sure your birth certificates, passport, visa, driving license, etc are to hand and fully up to date.

Once licensed, you must submit an application at the District Registration Department. People coming in from overseas to tie the knot will probably need to pursue a special “fast track” license at the Chief Minister’s Department, as the law states that normally persons can only be wed if they have been living in the country for seven days before they can be approved for a license, while the license it self takes 21 days to process. Either way, the wedding has to happen within 1 month of the license being issued.

While a honeymoon in Malaysia it a must anyway, you can rest easy that in their roughly 6 days that it takes to complete all the paperwork and documentation, you have a ready-made excuse for enjoying yourself in a resort or other Malaysian travel destination immediately following the big day.

Till fill out this paperwork, in addition to the original copies of your birth certificates and passport, you will need 4 passport photo and a statutory declaration (one each) sating your marital status from your High Commission/Embassy or a local registrar at home. Plus, proof of Decree absolute if divorce, or a copy of the Death Certificate if you are a widow/widower.

As in most cultures/countries, you need 2 witnesses, who must be over 18. On the day itself, they will also sign all the paperwork that you do at the Registration Office – warning: this is not a lightning quick exercise!

Once the entire document are signed and sealed, the reminder of your ceremony can be held wherever you please, whether it is a hotel, the beach, a garden, or even in the jungle! Thankfully, Registrars in Malaysia are very accommodating when it comes to allowing ceremonies in alternative locations.

This just leaves you with the none-too-easy decision of where exactly it is that you would like to tie the knot…….

Post Question Popping

Ok, he (or she, over a quarter of couples are now joined after the female asked the question) has popped the question and she (or he) said yes. Now the hard work starts, with each day gradually getting more stressful and difficult until the magical ceremony it self.

The first, and probably most important, consideration is the venue. Assuming you can find out plenty of information about the quality and presence of registry offices for yourself, here are some of the more exotic types of location, along with some of our recommendations that will provide you with a setting to remember.

Hotel

Almost all the major hotel in Langkawi and other cities in Malaysia are able to cater the wedding ceremonies. I been personally organize and been to some breath-taking at The Westin Langkawi Beach and Spa resort, Casa Del Mar Langkawi Sheraton Langkawi Beach and Spa Resort and perhaps most spectacularly of all at The Datai Langkawi.

Beaches

The blissful, relaxing setting of a Malaysian beach, with blue skies, soft sand and the sounds of the water gently lapping up the bay towards you. Sound good, doesn’t it? The top 3 destination for a beach wedding in Malaysia are Langkawi, where the mysterious history of the island adds a magical touch to proceedings at any of their magnificent beach resort.

Most of the resort offers as good wedding package as you are likely to find. Not to mention great photo opportunities and incredible story to tell the grand kids! You can get a sense of perfect wedding at Langkawi Wedding, you ask for it we make it happen.

Hi Nasha,

Sorry it has taken us so long but we have got stuck back into things back home and just have not had a chance.

Our experience of having Langkawi wedding planner's plan our wedding was a very positive one. You were prompt to respond with with any information that that we needed or queries when we were corresponding by email, with us always getting the impression that nothing was going to be too difficult for you.

As for the wedding itself it was an amazing day for both of us with very little stress for us due to knowing that you had all the arrangements for the wedding under control so just had to make sure that we were ready on time. We went into day blind as to what everything was going to look like in terms of the arch and table settings etc, as we mentioned in our speech we were blown away by the arrangements as they were more than what we could have imagined. The arch appeared to simple but nice and appropriate for what we wanted and the table settings were stunning.

Adam the celebrant's words were really meaningful during the ceremony and we had a couple of guests comment on how sincere the words were. He was very helpful when we were going through the legal process in explaining what was happening at each place.

We would recommend the Frangipani hotel as a wedding venue to any one else thinking of getting married in Langkawi. The thing that had originally sold this venue to us prior to coming over was that we just enjoyed our stay there so much on our first holiday together. However when we arrived and saw the location where the wedding was going to be held we were so glad that we had chosen the Frangipani as it was so perfect for what we wanted- a relaxed and casual wedding on the beach. There was just so much tasty food for us and our guests. As for the hotel stay again for us this time it was once again a really positive experience where the staff were really friendly and helpful so would stay there again in a second should we venture back to Langkawi.

As for the photographer Affendy I had seen a number of his photos on the internet and had been very impressed with them so was happy when we found out he was one of your photographer's. It was great having him at the legal ceremony at the registra to get photos of this especially since there was only those who needed to be there, there. His photos have captured the wedding as we remember it as a fun and relaxed day in a beautiful location. We are really happy with the photos and some of the effects that Affendy has used in various photos.

Once again I don't think we could have been happier with how the day and process had gone for us. You were always so very helpful and put so much effort into helping to make our day so special with the big and little things. Your were so professional in what you did and we were greatly appreciative of this.

I know we had said that we would write down a bit of the process that we needed to go through paperwork side of things in WA as this was the one thing that we struggled with. Would advise that people talk to Dept of Foreign affairs earlier rather than later. We needed to get our birth certificates and eligible to marry certificate certified by the Dept of Foreign affairs which takes over 24 hours and then get it stamped by the malaysian embassy in Australia. All of the other parts of the paperwork were on the instructions that you had given us. We were very lucky that you asked us for our paperwork prior to us arriving as otherwise we would have missed the above steps.
