Axis 360 Planned Maintenance 5/19 & 5/20

As you may have heard recently, we will soon be completing our move of Axis 360 services to a 100% cloud-based environment. Moving Axis 360 to cloud hosting and bi-coastal data centers will provide great benefits in scalability as Axis 360 continues to grow, with dynamic support for peak utilization periods, 24/7 performance monitoring, support for global access and new cloud service tools and search capabilities.

Unfortunately, this will require Axis 360 to be taken offline during the time of the move. We will begin our move to the cloud at 10 P.M. EDT on Saturday, May 19th, and we expect to be back up by noon EDT on Sunday, May 20th. We selected this time period for the work as it is historically the time period of lowest demand for digital checkouts. During this time, your staff and patrons will not have access to the following Axis 360 services:

Your library's Axis 360 website
The Axis 360 mobile app
Read and Listen Now

Patrons will continue to have access to content that was downloaded to their device before the downtime begins; however, they will not be able to search, checkout, return or renew titles. Items that have been downloaded will be accessible via the My Stuff page in the mobile app. Patrons accessing your library's Axis 360 website will be redirected to an informational maintenance page.

In order to inform your patrons about this upcoming outage, we will be sending out an email to all patrons who have provided Axis 360 with their email address. In addition, you may want to notify patrons via your own website, in-library signage or social media posts to help spread the word. To help with that, we have created graphics below that you may wish to post on your website or social media channels.

We are excited that 19 libraries are joining the SWAN consortium. This will provide our patrons access to even more items!

There will be a bit of behind the scenes work for this to happen.

April 30 & May 1, we will be able to offer limited services during the addition of the 19 new libraries.

Online catalog:

Full access to current item records and searching
Partial Access to My Account features (intermittent outages)
Partial Access to item availability (intermittent outages)
Partial Access to place holds (intermittent outages)
Partial Access to commerce/payment functions (intermittent outages)

BookMyne app will be unavailable.

In the library:
We will be able to check out items to you.
We will check in items once we are able on May 1 or May 2.
Your account will not accurately reflect returned items until May 2.
Anything placed in the book drop after closing April 28-May 1 will be processed May 2.

We will be unable to issue new cards or renew existing library cards.
We will be unable to reset forgotten PINs.

If you are one of our eBook, eAudio, eMagazine users, be sure to download your items no later than April 29. Access will be interrupted April 30-May 1.

Zinio app replaced by RBdigital app on 4/17/18

The Zinio for Libraries app will be discontinued in the near future. As a result, we encourage you to download the RBdigital app on your mobile device to access magazines. Your username and password will remain the same. You won't lose any of your previously checked out content.

Career Online High School (COHS) Launched!

The Lansing Public library is offering qualified community members the opportunity to earn an accredited high school diploma and credentialed career certificate through Career Online High School, a program brought to public libraries by Gale, a Cengage company. Part of the world’s first accredited, private online school district, Career Online High School is specifically designed to reengage adults into the education system and prepare them for entry into post-secondary career education or the workforce. Currently, more than 10% of adults in Lansing, lack a high school degree or equivalent.

“Earning a high school diploma is a life-changing achievement,” said Juan Estrada Head Librarian of
Circulation. “By offering Career Online High School, we’re empowering our residents to seek new
opportunities and transform their lives.”

“We’re delighted to partner with the Lansing Public Library to offer Career Online High School and give
residents access to education and the potential to change their lives,” said Paul Gazzolo, senior vice president and general manager for Gale.

The Lansing Public Library will award scholarships for Career Online High School to qualified learners looking to earn a high school diploma and advance their careers. Once enrolled, Career Online High School pairs each
student with an Academic Coach, who assists with developing an individual career plan, offers ongoing
guidance and encouragement, evaluates performance, and connects the learner with the resources needed to demonstrate mastery of the course material. Classes are supported by board-certified instructors and students have 24/7 access to the online learning platform. Coursework begins in one of eight high-growth, high-demand career fields (across a wide spectrum from child care and education to certified transportation), before progressing to the core academic subjects. Students are able to graduate in as few as six months by transferring in previously earned high school credits but are given up to 18 months to complete the program.

a) Visit AV Dept. (upper level) to make photocopies from a master of common forms ($.10/page, instruction books not available due to length)

b) file online (free on IRS, State of Illinois or Creditkarma.com)

c) log on a public computer and download/print the forms you need ($.15/page)
