I did knit this shrug in the summer... and Alexa is showing her shrug. She even took it with her to Paris in August, to wear in the evenings. People in my neighborhood were asking for the pattern... it is available in the Ravelry store for $3 Enjoy! :)

that I was working on a poncho again? This time an ordered knit, from which you see the beginning on the image. I was almost done... and then I lost a stitch... that dropped so far down, taking stitch combinations down and I had a crater in no time. I had to frong... restarted it,and am now at 50%. 50% still to go, and I do have to remember to use the lifelines! I'll manage. And I am looking forward to 2013... some work might appear in Piecework (US) next year.

Fire

Yesterday an enormous fire in a greenhouse complex in our village. Over 100 firefighters were fighting this one.

I did a bit more broomstick knitting. These are really fun to make. In the past weeks I have also been working on a poncho (lace) but... I had to frog it. One stitch dropped (holding a combination of stitches knit together) and before I knew what had happened I had a ladder which formed also an enormous crater in my work. Had to restart. And it seems, the lesson I am preaching, I always tend to forget: use the lifelines.

Or broomstick crochet, if you like. I created these with The Yarn Yard sock yarn, colour Crannog. Used 10 mm needles. Added 3 buttons. And young Wietse took the photos... not bad huh for a five year old.

Where did last month go?

Weird... I noticed it has been over a month that I posted. Absolutely not me, I'm sorry. Summer vacation ended for Wietse on August 20 and we had an awful lot of rain, plus one enormous hot day on August 19. Wietse has a new teacher, and half of last year's group moved to a higher group. We directly got back into swing of therapy again: physical therapy is now sure that we have to continue at least until Christmas vacation - though improvement has been made on many territories. Also logopedic lessons are part of our routine again. Exercises for the tongue this week. And new are swimming lessons on Wednesdays. We have had two lessons thus far and he loves it. For the older kids school started last week - two have to cycle almost a full hour to get to school. New and exciting things... For me things are still hectic with all these schedules, plans etc. Have to juggle through I guess. I am trying to catch up my work at home... cleaning and ironing is necessary. When I have a spare moment, I am crocheting a bit and knitting a bit. Not much to show yet though... I'll close my note for now with a song from Johnny Cash - try to click with your tongue on the rhythm of the clock - absolutely not the easiest thing to do, but a good training.

Alexa's shrug

This one came ready last week - a shrug made out of Patons Shimmer. I used a bit more than 200 grams to make this one. Alexa loves to wear shrugs during cold evenings, and she is planning to take this one with her to Paris. LOL! My knitwear travels further than I do.

My poncho

It started with an idea for a shawl actually - but I had so much yarn left that I decided to make another one. That prompted my husband to ask what my plans were.... after blocking connect the sides and wear as poncho was my answer. He thought it was a good idea. And now, as it is finished, he told me that I need to keep it. (and maybe self-publish the pattern through Ravelry... )

Jouke passed his exams, and I promised him, when he would pass, I would hang the flag out the door to celebrate. He was so happy yesterday when he heard the news! July 3 he will get his diploma... and next year he will be attending a different school.

I am not in a good mood this afternoon. Was working so nice on my lace shawl - pulled it up to see the pattern and poof... a hole appeared. Had to frog 30 rows because I forgot to knit 3 sts together properly. Not to mention the lifeline. That having said: what do you think of my little flower?

The yarn: Old Maiden Aunt Lace, Merino/Alpaca Have been winding yarn for a new project, after finishing a crocheted shawl this weekend. It turned out to be a beauty - but is blocking upstairs. I have a fair idea for this one... and with 1200 meters on the skein it can become a large shawl for sure. Glad that the sun is shining - and at the moment music on the radio from Radio5Nostalgia - the week from the '70s.

School

Mom, can you take your phone with you to school, and make a photo of my drawing? This one was made Monday, and he had been drawing together with Yiran. Earlier this morning I found another drawing from Wietse on the chalk board. He likes it, so it seems. This afternoon I have spent at school - not that it was my turn to be there, but one of the mothers fell out sick. We traded. She is taking my turn in two weeks. Normally one mother will supervise the computer lessons, and one is supervising technique, but today we both had technique lessons. I had six children building a high crane out of wooden connecting blocks, bolts, rings, wheels etc. Very interesting, and some stunning results. Guess what... thank you Gemeente Lansingerland - for creating a zebra and a school zone warning! It has made the crossing a little bit safer!

Pompom

Pompom visited us again today. You must remember out of an earlier post that I repaired his nose last year. But now, something fun (at least for boys) is coming up and Pompom needed a bit of help. Coming weekend the European Championship Soccer is going to take place in Poland and Ukraine. As fan of the Dutch team, Pompom needed something orange... And now he can watch - with his tie and cheer with the children in his class

pompom kwam vandaag op visite. U kunt zich vast nog wel herinneren dat ik zijn neus heb gerepareerd. Maar nu kwam hij even langs voor iets leukers (in ieder geval voor jongens). Het Europees Kampioenschap voetbal komt eraan, die begint dit weekend in Polen en Oekraïne. Maar als fan van het Nederlands elftal had Pompom iets in oranje nodig... Nu is hij helemaal het heertje met deze als stropdas geknoopte sjaal!

Volunteered at Wietse's school to go along and guide a small group of children through Blijdorp Zoo last Thursday. It was hot, we came home quite "cooked", and it was crowded. But we had fun, and all the kids of his class returned safe.

The Zoo is crossed (through tunnels) by trains, and one animal has a nest on one pole...

Weird weeks

that is what you get when your life is turned upside-down. The two oldest boys are more at home than at school (this week they do have Spring break), and I wonder how they will pass their exams in May this year. And with the youngest I am going to therapy twice per week - logopedic lessons on Wednesdays, and physio on Fridays. Add to that a couple of birthdays and your picture for the coming time is pretty complete :-)

For tomorrow I have some garden work planned - a few bushes that did not survive winter needs to be removed. They expect freezing temperatures again next week... I love touches of winter.
