Food Inspiration for the next coming weekend!

2011-08-17T23:44:00.000-07:00

Sometimes I love fishes, and I make food all about fishes.

Sometimes I am not because I eat too much of fishes at one time.

At one time during my childhood, most of my meals had included a fried fish and a bowl of fish soup. Nowadays, I do not eat that often, maybe one in few months whenever my husband wants.

Of course, my taste now has also changed, I know to eat more kind of food made from fish and know how to make them as well. I look around and learn from people. The world around us is a diversity source for me to discover and I love pizza with smoke salmon and cream cheese, or wrap and roll grilled fish, or even raw fish like sashimi tuna...

Let's go and enjoy different kind of flavours around the world! even just through photos from people shot!

2011-06-27T19:41:00.000-07:00

So what inspires me to cool down this summer? A homemade summer drink - Longan Lotus! Yay..my mom used to make this for us when we were little and now of course my turn to make this for my hubby. He actually joined a part of the making process in peeling the cell and removing the seed of those longans. It kinna took a while for him! Well, as the result, it tastes incredible as it always is, just like my mom making...

{Vanilla-Oreo Icecream}

What else inspires you more than an yummy vanilla gelato oreo this hot summer days!

{Vanilla-Oreo Icecream}

Ingredients:

For the custard

250 ml milk
250 ml cream
150 grsugar
30 gr cornstarch
1 vanilla pod
3 yolks (medium size eggs)

To finish the icecream:

250 ml whipping cream
10 or 15 Oreo cookies

Difficulty: Only for people able to say Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.

Preparation:

Put 250 ml cream, 150 ml milk, sugar and vanilla pod in a saucepan over medium heat until it boils. In a bowl, blend cornstarch, and remaining milk; add beaten egg yolks. Remove bean pod from pot. Add cornstarch mixture to pot. Cook, stirring, until it starts to thicken and barely reaches a boil, about 5 minutes. Immediately reduce heat to very low and stir for 5 minutes or so until thick. Chill until cool. Whip remaining cream with an elecric mixer, and add to the mixture carefully. Pour into an ice cream machine and prepare according to the manufacturer’s instructions. In my machine it takes about 30 minutes. Five minutes before it ends, add chopped cookies, and place in freezer. Take out of the freezer ten minutes before it is going to be served. source from: La receta de la felicadad

Nem

2010-09-30T20:49:00.001-07:00

Today, our topic will be " NEM" ( or in different way is " CHA GIO").

I remember this was my mom's favorite dish when I was at home and I didn't like it that much. Well, however now, it's my turn, I seem like it a lot.

All the ingredients like meat, crab meat, cat mushroom, ... I can easily find here at any Asian grocery, but for the transparent rice wrapper, I still like the one from Vietnam most because it's so crispy and thin. So my mom has to send those papers to me every year! This is totally my homemiiiie style NEM.

From start to end,
Finish wrapping NEM
You can see through the meat from outside..

It turns golden brown after fried..

And here is our NEM!

Ice cream of the week!

Hommi style steak!

2010-09-20T03:38:00.000-07:00

It's getting a little chill here, montreal! A little early fresh cold air spreads through the town and my little nest where I need to put on some clothes to keep me warmer. The green is around still and the autumn color has not yet come, still, there is a lot of warm feeling inside the house, a lot of food inspiration comes up.

so what else is greater to heat up our kitchen than a piece of steak. The heat, the color, the smell, the touch of a juicy tender steak will make our dinner completed.

Cupcake first time maker!

2010-08-08T11:43:00.000-07:00

It has been a while that I can have a such motivation to do the bakery. For long, I am always a big loser in making cakes or any sweeten food. After watching people made cakecups on TV, I am totally down for the show and start searching for the recipes how to make cupcake and decoration. There is thousand and thousand of recipes and videos, I am happy to say the baking part is my success. I got my coconut cupcake right my first time cook. However, I still cannot trust all the sources that I watched on Youtube ( which took me 3 times to make the perfect ice frosting cream decore) Which means, i had to combine all people's methods and make my own out of it.
First time, it was too grainy and soft "melting" ( because the video showed to add too much milk). Second time, I added less milk but still too soft that I cannot do the decor. And finally, the last time, I found out a very important key step that most of the video missed to show and made my almost beautiful frosting cream. Still, the frosting is too sweet compared to our Asian taste, I need to find a way to make it less sweet next time...more research...and hope that my decor skill will be improved next time. Well, at least, I got what I wanted, a Flower Cupcakes bouquet- which I made for my little friend's birthday last night!

Final product:

2/ Decor Rose and Hydrangea flowers

1st sucessful decor

1st failure decore
