Is your Vaio laptop screen in need of repair? This video is a quick tutorial without sound about fixing a Vaio laptop screen. I like it because it shows quickly where to find everything on your Vaio laptop to replace the LCD screen. Once you’ve fixed one laptop screen, it’s essentially the same for all the rest. If you’ve never replaced a laptop screen before, you may want to review some of the other videos first because this one goes pretty fast. Don’t worry, just click on the tab above that says All Videos and you’ll find plenty of videos to watch. It’s pretty much the same for all brands of laptops, so just watch a few and get started.

The video below shows exactly how to change the backlight LCD inverter on an HP Pavilion laptop. I like the intense music.

But really, this is quite an elaborate video with all steps shown. Most of the other videos on this site deal with changing the LCD screen. This is just the LCD Inverter being replaced, not the whole screen. If your screen is black, but the computer still works, this may be the problem.

Some troubleshooting tips in case you’re not sure it’s the LCD inverter that needs replacing.

Laptop boots up, but the screen blacks out after a while.

Image is still there, but it’s really faint.

Sometimes the backlight works, sometimes it doesn’t

The screen always stays dark and the backlight never comes on, but there’s an image barely visible

There may be a strange buzzing sound near the bottom of the laptop screen

Online repair guides can help you to fix your laptop on your own, if you are tech savvy and understand a bit about computers. Keep in mind that the laptops are built with everything in a very tight space. It is important to understand what things are, especially if you are opening up the guts of the thing. That way, you reduce the risk of ruining something while fixing something else. Laptop screen repair is a bit easier, since the screen is basically in the same place on each laptop and most models are very similar in the way you repair them. Easy step by step guides and laptop screen repair videos are found in abundance on this site.

Online Laptop Repair Guides
By Seth Miller

Laptops have become a part and parcel of our lives. In keeping with the increasing number of laptops, problems with laptops have also increased multifold. Many people deal with occasional problems with their laptops and repairs have become quite a common necessity now. While the major problems have to be dealt with by authorized service centers, there are minor problems that can be handled on one’s own using online laptop repair guides available aplenty on the Internet.

The Internet, as a community, was started and populated first by people who used computers extensively. A lot of the people on the Internet have gone through problems and issues with their computers and laptops that they have not found answers for. Once they did find the answer, they have taken the care to put the answers online on various Web sites and forums on the Internet. These are extremely vital sources to find information one needs to repair one’s laptop.

Another thing is the constitution of the laptop. Because of the economy of the space involved, they are made quite compact, and the laptops have areas earmarked for various things. For instance, every laptop has a battery that can be easily detached without touching the rest of the laptop or opening a screw. Also the RAM of a laptop is usually inserted in a place that is easily accessible so that it can be changed and upgraded when necessary.

However, while going in for online laptop repair guides, one must remember that not all problems can be solved with little effort and not everyone can repair a laptop on their own. A laptop, after all, is a complex machine with a lot of interconnected parts. While repairing a laptop, first of all one needs to do a proper diagnosis of the problem. If this is not done, faulty repairs can cause irreparable damage.

Only one who has considerable and practical experience with laptops and their configuration should consult Internet sites for repair guides. Since most laptops are different from others, laptop manufacturers provide repair guides on the internet that one can refer to in case of a problem with the laptop. One can also find individuals posting such repair guides. One search with major search engines will throw open a plethora of options regarding online laptop repair guides and you can easily save that extra repairing cost.

I think this video must have been made with him explaining the steps because you can see his mouth moving as the music rolls on. But at least they added subtitles so you can tell what is going on. If you have a different model, it’s basically the same steps. It may be easier to see the screen repair done on a laptop just like yours, though. This video is a step by step guide to repairing your laptop screen with written instructions embedded in the video.

By Gerald Potratz

If you own a laptop computer, sooner or later you are going to be faced with a computer that has a display that has gone dark typically in one of two scenarios. In the most common case the LCD screen is damaged because of some physical event that caused the screen to be cracked or broken. Laptops do not take kindly to being dropped, especially when the case is opened and the accident occurs. In the second case there no physical damage and a malfunction in the video, power or control circuitry has caused the display to malfunction.

In the case of the cracked or physically damaged screen you need to determine if there is other damage to the laptop. The best way to do this is to plug in an external monitor using the video output connector at the rear of the laptop case. If the external monitor works and you see that your applications function then you know that you are looking at a LCD screen repair, and in the event you don’t repair the laptop you can still recover your data. Even if you elect not to repair the laptop this kind of failure is the best of a bad situation because the laptops still functions and you can still recover your data.

If the Laptop screen hasn’t been physically damaged, but the screen is still blank, you should still connect an external monitor as described above and determine if the rest of the laptop is functional. In the case where the screen is blank and an external monitor doesn’t work a more expensive diagnosis and repair scenario will probably be your only option.

It is always best to take these basic steps before you get a repair person involved. You should think through your repair options before you are confronted with a potentially costly repair decision.

When the LCD panel in a laptop gets cracked, there is not much more that you can do about it other than simply replacing it. The cost for the LCD panel itself will likely be fairly expensive. The process involved will be only slightly different between laptop makes and models, so these step by step instructions will apply to the vast majority of laptops.

Before you ever work on any of the hardware inside a laptop computer, always make sure the laptop is not connected to any power source and that the battery has been removed. Have you have ever noticed the little rubber dots along the plastic edge, bezel, of your laptop screen? Those are actually screw hole covers. Start by carefully removing these with the edge of a very fine flat head screw driver and set them aside. You could also use any fine pointed tool or the tip of a small knife. You can now access and remove the bezel screws.

Once the screws have been removed you can remove the actual bezel itself. This can be tricky because these need to be snapped out, and it often can make you think that you are pulling too hard on the bezel. It is usually best to start at the upper edge along the display screen until one corner has snapped out, and then work your way around the edge unsnapping the bezel as you go.

Once the bezel has been removed you will want to remove the very tiny screws along the frame of the LCD panel. These secure the LCD panel to the rest of the laptop. Once this has been done you will be able to lay the screen down and unplug the video cable. The video cable is a wide flat cable that will be around one to two and half inches wide or so. Many times this cable will have a piece of yellow tape over it.

Next you can remove the inverter cable. This usually has two wires connecting to a plastic end piece which clips into the inverter. There is usually one pink wire, and one white wire. The inverter itself is an elongated, narrow circuit board contained within a clear plastic cover. There may be a screw in the inverter will have to be removed in order to unplug the wires.

Some models may require the removal of hinge screws. If your laptop has built in wireless capability there will be an addition wire to remove from the back of the screen when you are removing the video cable.

When removing these parts and screws during this process, it is a good idea to set them aside in an organized fashion that will allow you to work your way backwards through these steps when it comes time to install the replacement LCD screen. Always be extra careful when handling the new replacement laptop LCD panel as these are easily scratched during the installation process.

Laptop computers have been around for ages. Just as a human, laptop computers also
age. Along with age comes broken or damaged parts. Hence, you either have to
replace the laptop computer or repair the broken parts. One of the most expensive
parts of a computer to replace is the monitor, commonly called the LCD.

LCD stands for liquid crystal display – the technology used to make the flat panel screens and laptop
computer screens.

Some common reasons that might make you consider replacing your laptop computer’s LCD are (1) the screen has been cracked; (2) you want to upgrade the standard computer screen that came with your unit to a higher resolution LCD screen; or(3) there are lots of dead spaces on your screen which might come from dead pixels.

If you want to tackle the task of replacing your laptop computer’s LCD, consider the following steps to ensure that you perform the replacement seamlessly.

Step One
Power off your laptop computer and disconnect the battery and all cables. You will also want to remove the battery as it could cause an electric shock if it remains installed through the process.

Step Two
Remove the rubber screw covers to expose the screws that hold the screen frame in place.

Step Three
Gently pry the LCD screen frame loose. You should then be able to find the LCD screen cable and power cord. Unplug both of these and remove the tape (if any) that is holding the screen in place.

Step Four
You will next need to find out who the manufacturer of your laptop computer’s LCD screen is. Keep in mind that the screen’s manufacturer might not be the same as the manufacturer of the computer. Ensure that you match the screen that you purchase matches the screen’s manufacturer model number.

Step Five
Once you have obtained the appropriate replacement screen, plug the new LSD screen in, secure it with tape, and replace the frame. Be cautious not to crimp any cords when you replace the frame.

Step Six
When you power up your laptop computer, your LCD screen should work properly. If it doesn’t, call the supplier where you purchased your replacement screen and ask for technical help.

If you decide that it would be cheaper or easier to replace your entire laptop computer, visit my website, The Cheap Laptop Store to buy new, used, or refurbished laptop computers.
