Well, it's about time - I finally won one of these polls! I knew you would come to see my ways eventually.

Or something like that.

Anyway, yes, again we had another pretty tight matchup for the poll, with An American Werewolf in London finally knocking off Children of Men (a solid pick that I would have voted for had I not had a horse in the race) to become the next Movie of the Month selection. Thanks to all that Championed a film and to those that voted, and congrats to Jason!

Here's what goes down from here:

* The first thing you need to know is that June 17th is the big day. You have just under 4 weeks to watch the flick, write up something, then send me the link (dylan at manilovefilms.com; posting to the LAMB's Twitter account or to mine does not suffice) to either what you write or something previously written. If you're planning on doing the former, please hold the post in draft until the 13th (you can send a link prior if you have the capability to do so).

* On June 10th, we'll be recording our MOTM-themed episode of the LAMBcast, where we'll dissect and discuss An American Werewolf in London. If you'd like to get in on it...sorry, that show is full. But keep an eye out at the LAMB Forums to for the future shows schedule, as people often have to bail before the day arrives.

* On the 17th, the LAMBcast will be posted, as well as all of the links to anything written. In addition, I'll include a poll to decide what the next MOTM flick will be (the call for new Champions will be coming at some point before then). That poll will run for a week, and then there'll be 3-4 weeks until the next event, and so on.

Here are the final results of the poll:

* I (Man, I Love Films) will be ineligible to become a Champion for the next three months. The Vern's Videovangaurd has two more months of ineligibility remaining, and French Toast Sunday has one. Fogs' Movie Reviews becomes eligible again with the next poll.

Trailer Trash Tuesday: 05/22/2012

Oh sorry about that folks. I'll wake up in just a little bit, but I have been hella tired these last few days and with Memorial day weekend coming up. I will most likely will be in a Bar B Q induced coma while I catch up on episodes of "Buffy The Vampire Slayer"

This Week's edition of Trailer Trash Tuesday brings you a slew of great previews for you to snack on. I am not expecting anyone of you to put their pants on either. So just sit back, relax, grab yourself a delicious tasty beverage, and let's get to it.

SkyFall.

Sam Mendes directs this latest adventure of the famed secret agent with the license to kill. Daniel Craig returns to the role that more or less made him a household name. This preview while light on giving any plot details does have some great visuals. That's because you have cinematographer Roger Deakins doing his thing, and with Mendes known for bringing out great performances. I expect this to be worth the full price of admission I plan on spending to see this.

Lawless

In this movie a group of brothers start off as criminals who somehow manage to become heroes. This looks like a Robin Hood type story set in the old west, but it does have an impressive cast. Some of you might have problems with Shia LaBeouf as an actor because of his performance in those "Transformers" flicks. But he has been good in other ones too ("Disturbia") and I feel he could do just fine with this role. I just don't like that his name gets top billing before the talents of Gary Oldman, Jessica Chastain and Tom Hardy. Those are all much better actors in my opinion.

Crazy Eyes

Lucas Haas plays an alcoholic who is in love with his best friend(Madaline Zima), all while having sex with different women and drinking. Look I can buy some actors being womanizers, but not Mr Haas. He just doesn't have that type of charisma or look to make it believable. He still looks to me like he's eight years old. This movie reminds me of a Bret Easton Ellis novel("Less Than Zero", "American Psycho") just without any of the sarcasm or wit those books had. It's o.k to have characters lead a decadent lifestyle, but if you don't make them at all interesting. I don't see why I should invest my time with following their stories.

The Master.

The latest from director Paul Thomas Anderson is about a religious organization and how it became popular in America. I read that this is suppose to be about Scientology, but I really won't know until the final product comes out. I don't like reading spoilers about any thing before I actually see it.. There is no official trailer, just what looks like a scene from the movie, but it does looks interesting. I have yet to see a bad movie from Mr.Anderson and with the cast and crew involved it looks to be another critical favorite.

Trailer Trash Tuesday: 05/15/2012

Hello fellow movie lovers.

Despite what you may have heard on a particular podcast, I do not hate all trailers. Some of them are quite good because only the right amount of info is giving about the flick itself. I'm just sick of the ones that have a narrator tell you the entire plot in just under two minutes.

This week we got some good ones that don't use narrators, and at least three of them look like movies I would see. Let me know what you think in the comments section below. As usual I will focus on two wide releases and two independent ones.

The Campaign.

Will Ferrell and Zack Galifianakis are two politicians trying to outdo each other in this political comedy. It doesn't seem fair to label this as such because there's not any debatable topics being discussed. The only response one will get out of this trailer is mild amusement. There have been tons of these kind of movies before where two characters have to compete in a series of wild and wacky deeds. One of them will win the prize while the other becomes a better person in the end.   Although it's directed by Jay Roach who has had some critical success with his two HBO movies "Game Change" and "Recount". Let's not forget he also directed the third Austin Powers movie and "Dinner For Schmucks".

Gangster Squad.

The only thing I was left asking after watching this trailer was what year was this suppose to be set in. The buildings and the fashion make this look like it was set in the late 30's or early 40's. But the use of quick cuts, modern music, and dialogue from today make me think otherwise.   Despite the great cast which includes Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin, Emma Stone(so much better as a red head) and Sean Penn. This really does not have much going for it. Maybe if the characters would speak like the ones in "His Girl Friday" or "White Heat". It would at least win points for trying to at least be different from the typical gangster films of today. As it stands this mainly looks like a period movie that doesn't know what period it's in.

Dark Horse.

The latest from Todd Solondz("Welcome To The Dollhouse") is kind of a change from the usual movies he makes. For one it doesn't look as dark as his other movies(not counting the actual title), but maybe this preview is just making me that. In it Abe (Jordan Gelber) meets and falls in love with Miranda(Selma Blair) because she is considered like him to be the outcast of their families. The guy still lives at home with his parents (Mia Farrow and Christopher Walken) and is considered by many to be a looser. If I could still live with my parents, I would. Free rent and a home cooked meal every night. That sounds like a winner to me. Solondz is good at finding compassion for these types of characters so I'm interested to see what does here, but I can't deny this does look pretty bland.

Mansome.

What makes a man a real man? I thought all along it was just having a penis that did it, but apparently this documentary has a lot more to say about the subject. Judd Apatow, Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and others explore the topic of male grooming habits, and find out what works and I guess what doesn't. Morgan Spurlock usually does a good job with his documentaries, and this one does look funny.   Although I can't help but think this is just a way for these actors to plug their upcoming movies more.

Hey everyone, it is D.J. Heinlein from the blog site Matte Havoc. The twenty-seventh installment of The LAMBs in the Director's Chair will leave you straight tripping. The first movie I have ever watched that was directed by movie director Ken Russell was the cult classic Altered States (1980) starring William Hurt, which I still pull from my DVD collection from time to time and watch it all over again. The film has not aged a bit for me. Ken Russell is a clear visionary with designing strong and powerful images in his films that will stick with the viewer long after viewing. In fact, the Norwegian band A-ha recreated the climactic scene from Altered States in their music video for "Take On Me" (which you can view the music video by clicking here). I definitely recommend grabbing a copy of his films and making a marathon night of it.

Now for those of you who have never participated in this event before I would like to present the basic list of instructions and rules for participation in the series. The golden guideline would be that all participants must be a current member of the LAMBs or at least on the waiting list for approval to become a member. The second guideline of participation in the series would be for everyone to write and publish an article about the candidate who has been selected for the event. The focus of every article must stay within the arena of the person’s career as a movie director. The third and final item on the list of guidelines is an uncompromising rule of meeting the deadline for submission. Every article that you would like to submit for the event must be e-mailed to DJ Heinlein [ mattehavoc@gmail.com ] by 10 PM the night before the first day of the event. If you would like to submit an article that you published a couple of months or years ago I will accept them for participation in the event. Make sure to include a direct URL link to every article that you would like to submit. There is no minimum or maximum number of articles that can be submitted.

On a side note I usually ignore e-mails filled with explanations and plans of publishing an article for the event. My inbox fills up very quickly with submissions for this event and I might over look a submission by accident if I am spending time deleting e-mails that are filled with explanations about future publishing instead of valid and direct links to articles that are already available online. The best way to get involved in the series is to publish the article and then submit the link by e-mail. No explanations are necessary. If you have any questions about the event you can e-mail them to me and I will respond as quickly as possible. Listed below are a few promotional graphics that you can post on your blog site to help promote the event. Have fun and knock yourself out with your reviews and editorials.
