Opening Day Breakfast the the Bennett Spring Church of God

The Bennett Spring Church of God will serve a breakfast from 6:30 to 9 a.m. Friday, March 1.

The breakfast includes a choice of biscuits and gravy or pancakes, with sides of scrambled eggs, sausage, hash browns and coffee.

Everyone is welcome.

Bennett Spring Stream Conditions

February 13, 2012 Stream Conditions

The water conditions at Bennett Spring and on the Niangua river havc improved somewhat. We had two inches of rain which brought the water levels up.. The stream rose about 13 inches. The Niangua rose about 7 feet. Both are back down to close to normal. We have been receiving some smaller rains lately and I hope they continue. It will help us come summer. Fish stocked for Opening Day 2013

On monday, february 11, 2013, the annual Bennett Spring trout meeting was held at Family Crossing. Mike Mitchell (Hatchery superintendent) directed the meeting. The purpose of the meeting is to make local business owners and concerned citizens aware of stock policies for the upcoming year. In addition, Craig Fuller spoke to the group regarding brown trout stocking in the Niangua River. We also heard from the assistant park superintendent and from law enforcement for the park. We will be posting info from that meeting, so please bookmark our page and keep your eyes and ears open.

FYI - According to Mike Mitchell, there will be 6900 rainbow trout stocked in the park for opening day. He said that there would be 3 fish stocked for each projected tag sold.

Bennett Spring – Catch and Release Closed

The 2012/13 Catch and Release season has now closed. Fishing for the regular season will re open on March 1, 2013.

Please remember that fisherman can fish at the Niangua access area or any area on the Niangua river any day of the week and 24 hours a day if desired. If fisherman are going to possess any trout from the Niangua river, they must have aState fishing license and a trout stamp. If you are not fishing for trout, and will not possess any trout, you only have to purchase the state fishing license.

November 16, 2012 Fishing Report for Bennett Spring

We are having a hard frost about every morning now. The water has been low and clear, fishing has been pretty good.. Fish size has been a little sporadic ( some smal fish and some larger fish ) but overall fishing has been good.

As far as what’s working ? CRACKLEBACKS ! Gold, Blue, Olive and Chartreuse. Several have been fishing cracklebacks on sinking fly lines. But they are also working just under the surface on a slow strip. Also good reports on Olive or Black woolie buggers. San Juan worms with a small zebra midge or midge dropper have also been effective. Harvester Midge, Black Caddis and Griffiths Gnats have also worked well.. Renegades.. Yes they still work well.

Dark colors in marabou jigs have done well early and late.. We would also recommend using the Doty Raiders in Brown Black or Olive..

Tan or Gray sowbugs and scuds have also been quite effective.

White or cream thread jigs.

Also, check with us. We have a new bedspread jig in stock and ready to sell to you for your fish catching pleasure.

The Niangua River has been stocked a few times in the last six weeks .. Fishing has been very good early and late. There are still alot of brown trout being caught in the Niangua from last years 4500 July stocking. Had a report of three nice browns caught last weekend on the Niangua. 18, 20 and a 23 inch fish.

Catching some nice smallies and goggle eye also in the river.. Beetle Spins and brown or olive jigs also do well.. Rapalas and crawdads for bigger browns early and late in the day will also produce well in the Niangua River.

I Released a Lunker Award

Catching and releasing big trout takes skill and dedication. That’s why the Conservation Department’s “I Released a Lunker” program recognizes anglers who release big trout to fight another day.

Here’s how to earn a patch:

Catch a trout by legal methods that is at least 18 inches long.
Release it in the presence of a witness (a photo really helps).
Do it between March 1 and Oct. 31 in the trout parks located at Bennett Spring State Park, Montauk State Park, Roaring River State Park and The James Foundation’s Maramec Spring Park.
Find a Missouri Department of Conservation staff person at the fish hatchery located at the trout park and ask for an “I Released a Lunker” program application.
Once you and your witness have signed the application, the MDC staff person will present your patch.
