The Beginning....
Hubby and I spent Sunday night at LaQuinta Hotel near the Detroit
Airport with a ‘stay and park' deal, since our flight was at 6 am.
Beats getting up at 2 pm to get to the airport from Toledo, plus the
diner next door makes the very best potato skins!
Monday at 5 am at the airport and we run into friends from Toledo- hi
John and family! They are on the same flight. A little snafu with
seating ends up very nicely, as I score an exit row seat with hubby,
at no charge for me. I am not a fan of Spirit's "buy a seat" policies,
nor their luggage fees but you can't beat their $9 club for the cost
of airline tickets. We arrive in Vegas around 9 am and rent a car

This trip was scheduled around the last 3 days of the Professional Bull Riders Finals at the Thomas & Mack Center on the UNLV campus. We booked our trip through Southwest Airline Vacations for about $550 for the two of us. If you live near any airport serviced by Southwest Airlines you will find their vacation program one of the best bargains on the internet.
We left Albuquerque at 5:45 PM. The airplane was packed and since we had a C boarding pass, our seating was split. Trip was uneventful. Once we arrived, we used the Bell shuttle to get to the 4 Queens. Check in was a breeze and the room was on the 18th floor near the elevator.
We received 2 coupons for 2-4-1 meals a
Read Full Trip Report

Like most of our trips, this one was planned even before completing the last ones in February and April. We generally go twice a year but manage to squeeze in a third if I can get approval from my wife. Not only does she sanction and encourage these trips, but she also finances them. These are my Fathers Day and Birthday presents each year. Her comment is "I never have to think of a gift. You take your buddy and get out of my hair for a few days." You bet I'm gonna keep her. Not only is she a "Trophy", she MAKES me go to Vegas twice a year!

We anticipate these trips and talk over the itinerary so much, we refer to Vegas as our "girlfriend". Remember when yo
Read Full Trip Report

Sunday, October 25

I was all packed and ready to go for my 6:00pm flight from JFK to LAS. I decided it might be a good idea to call the Paris hotel and let them know that I wouldn't be checking in until after midnight. The man who answered the phone said, "You've reached the right person." Well, it turns out he was the Hotel Manager and upgraded me to a "Red Room" with a strip view. My room wasn't red, but I did have the flat screen TV, ipod docking station, etc. I was quite happy. I had toyed with doing the "$20 trick", which I have never done in my 20+ trips to Las Vegas. Frankly, I think it only works half the time. Based on what I have read, it seems like a lot of people believe they ...
Read Full Trip Report

Trip Report October 2009 Journey To The Land Of Old Folks

My Grandpa plays with me. When all the other old people stand around and talk, my Grandpa plays with me. When we go see my brothers or cousins play sports all the other old people sit and watch, but my Grandpa plays with me. We play on the jungle gym, go up the monkey bars, and down the slides. Sometimes Grandpa barely fits, but he plays with me. Sometimes we even go climb up a tree.

My Grandpa plays with me, but not this week. This week Grandma and Grandpa went to Las Vegas to meet other old people. I don't know why they went to Las Vegas. Old people mostly just stand around and talk. We could have a lot more fun here.

Finally back, sorry for the delay!

I tried to book them on line, but it had to be a party of 14 or more and we only had 11..so they wouldn't accept them and told me to call when I got to Vegas( which I did!).
7pm..its time to dine..up the elevator we go and we are almost immediately seated(I was surprised how many people were there for a Tuesday night), We got a nice table by the window, so we could look out and see the strip ...
Read Full Trip Report

Plus I would get busy for a few days and...well you know how it goes. Thanks for taking the time to read our report. We had a great time...

Our journey started almost 5 months ago. We wanted to go to Las Vegas for our yearly trip, but were not sure when we should go. My wife and I both looked at our calendars at work and we decided on Saturday September 12th to Wednesday the 16th. So began the watching for cheap airfare on Southwest out of Omaha. I caught a great deal for $99 each way. We only had to pay for one as we had miles ...
Read Full Trip Report

This was our second trip this year. We stayed at the Orleans both times. I really like that place. But, I digress.
We are me and my 87 yr old mother. She does good, except she doesn't like walking that much, so it kind of limits what we do.
Our flight on Allegiant was on time out of Sioux Falls. We took off from SF at about 2:15 and arrived in Vegas at about 3:10. Our first win was the wheelchair guy. We had had this guy before and really liked him. His name is Kevin, like my late brother, and is just the nicest guy. Second win, we got to the bag carousel and a airport worker walked up to us with our 2 bags. Never had that happen before.

I left home about 2pm and headed for Lincoln and my parents house, for two reasons: one: so I could check them in for their flight out on Monday afternoon, and two: so I could take their car up to Omaha(reasons why?? later in the saga)..got them checked in A's on SW and then headed to Omaha.

Happy Days and Breakfast with Alice Cooper
Vegas: October 22-25, 2009

This trip was part of our 30th anniversary celebration. We decided to take several smaller trips over the course of the year instead of one giant trip. We have done a large charity ride in Indianapolis, a motorcycle ride to Nashville and Memphis, and now the trip to Vegas.
We originally planned this trip to coincide with a Jimmy Buffett concert but his schedule changed and since we were already booked, we just made some other plans.
We left Indianapolis Thursday at 6:30. I really don't like leaving in the evening. We had to change plans in Chicago and we left late so we didn't get to LV until 10 PM local time. This ...
Read Full Trip Report

Trip Report Oct. 24 - 28th.
On this trip my GF/fiancé went with me and we stayed at the Monte Carlo for four nights. Flew out of Chicago's Midway and got into LV around 1:30. Flight was full both ways. Both flights had screaming babies, too. Oh joy. But I know cabin pressure affects kids differently than us. So...ok..

The new car rental facility is great. We used our Thrifty Blue Chip card and it helped bypass a lot of folks waiting to get a car. We proceeded to the garage and were off in a new Ford Fusion in just 15 minutes total.

Check in at the MC was easy and fast. But the room they put us in was way down at the end of the hallway. We stayed there the first night
Read Full Trip Report

Best surprise on the strip; how easy it is to get around with the Monorail. Best breakfast was at the Las Vegas Hilton. Worst experience on the strip...everything at Sahara. Stay away from the Sahara. Best surprises downtown, the face lift of the El Cortez. I would stay here again after seeing how well the old girl cleaned up. The Gold Spike of all places looks like a new micro-yuppie casino in an old part of town. It is a nice place, but is too small, and looks like poor cash flow. Was good to see that someone made good use of an old property. Overall a fun trip. Took ...
Read Full Trip Report

The Firefly tapas place at the Plaza is cool--good drinks, view of the Fremont scene, great tapas/bar menu. Seeing Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons in Primm, NV, was great: Frankie at 75 still is in great voice, the Four Seasons' harmonies are superb, the 10 piece backing orchestra is excellent. But the hotel there in Primm was packed, with long lines and waiting times and no signage about the hall's location, then under-staffed in the concert hall, an exit leading into a parking lot where security wouldn't let people pass...it's ...
Read Full Trip Report

This was my 5th trip to Vegas in 15 months, and by far the most fun, even though I donated the most on this one. We went to some new places and since we're creates of habit, we stuck to some one tried and true ones too. Along for the ride was my faithful traveling companion and fellow vegasaholic, sis-in-law (S), and joined this time by niece (N) and her vegas virgin friend (F).

As is my pattern, my vegas trip starts out with a pedicure and then I hop the shuttle bus to the airport. The nice thing about living in this college town is they have a shuttle to the Detroit airport from East Lansing that makes 8 trips a day to the airport. Cost is cheaper than what I'd pay for airport parkin ...
Read Full Trip Report
