Question by Samian's 10th -Giuliani 2012: Can LASIK eye surgery be done under anesthesia?
I wear glasses, and I actually can't wear contacts (which I purchased many years ago) because my eye instinctively closes whenever the contact gets too close to my eyeball. I also have some issues with keeping my eye open through a surgical procedure, since I might end up blinking during the LASIK process.

Would it be possible for me to be under anesthesia throughout the surgery?

Best answer:

Answer by Footprintz
No, the whole procedure takes less than 2 minutes, and your eye is clamped open, so you can't blink.

Most people are squeamish about that, but they have all the bases covered.

They give you a valium or something before the treatment anyway, so you won't even care what they are doing...and it's over before you know it.

Best answer:

Answer by Vee
I'm not sure about NG, but my husband is AD and got it paid for 100%. Since he was an ideal candidate for Lasik, his doc put his name on a waiting list. Took about 6 months, they took him down to Ft Hood to get the surgery. Stayed there for a day, he (as well as about 5 others that day) were driven back the next day. Got a few checkups and has had perfect vision ever since.

Question by Tony: How much does Lasik eye surgery cost in Mexico? And is it safe there?
I have a cousin that got Lasik eye surgery in Mexico for about $ 400 for each eye. Is this a typical price in Mexico? In the U.S., prices are typically three times as much, like in the $ 1,500 to $ 2,000 range for each eye. I'm just a little hesitant doing any kind of surgery in Mexico.

I currently live in Dallas but I'm looking for affordable Lasik. Thanks

Best answer:

Answer by C_T_W
Stay away from mexico for any surgery. it costs more here because a Professional does it. it costs less in mexico because a wanna be US Citizen doctor does it.

Question by SPD-WRLDS: Can eye ball grow after laser eye surgery and why?
I had a check up today at laser eye clinic to check if i can have lasik again after 5 yrs as the shortsightness has returned slightly over the years on my right eye and doctor said can't have surgery anymore as my retina is thin and the reason that the shortsightness has returned is becuase the eye ball has grown and made my vision worse slightly! my qeustion is how does that happen and why my eye ball has grown?

Best answer:

Answer by Albi Nice
Yes, your eye ball can grow longer, and it has nothing to do with the laser surgery. The LASIK affects your eye's cornea. It's kind of like the window at the front of the eye.
The eye can get longer if you are still in a growth spurt, and still a teenager. But myopic eyes may experience lengthening eyes anyway throughout adulthood, but the rate of change may be much slower.
If you did this LASIK thing as a kid, then that was a mistake, because you should get it done when your myopia (eye prescription) is stable for a few years as an adult.

I am thinking of getting Lasik eye surgery, but am really squeamish about having my eyeball touched, let alone having flaps on it pulled up ect. I heard they give you drops to numb the eye, but can you still see / tell when they are touching your eye while they are doing their thing?

Best answer:

Answer by Mary T
I got Lasik done one year ago, it was the best thing I've ever done! However it took me 2 years to work up enough nerve because I was sooooo squeamish about my eyes. The morning I went in I was offered a valium( took it) and they numbed my eyes I could not tell a thing and could not believe how fast it was over. The dr. explained every step of the way and I could kick myself for not going sooner. All I can say is GO for IT!!!!
