We know that our website is a unique resource to the area and we are looking for a unique individual to help us out.

Our new intern will have the chance to be the face of the brand and set up great nightlife events. They will also assist us with our social media accounts and get local business owners involved with Last Call Marquette. The PR/Marketing Intern will be utilized in helping to further our brand – their opinions will be taken into consideration as we continue to move forward.

We are formally looking for some new talent, in the form of a graphic designer! We have worked with multiple artists in the past and it’s about time to revamp our look and feel. If you have kept up with our style from the beginning, then you’ll know that we are constantly trying to improve our appearances. It’s time to revitalize the Shot of the Week… it’s been entirely too long since I’ve done one. But, after 52 in a row, it gets hard to come up with new and exciting shots to try. So, by all means, send me your suggestions (our Facebook page is most ideal) and I can keep this baby lasting longer! I was in Denver, Colorado last week and since they have a very “green” theme out there, they have a shot that fits the atmosphere very well. Without any further ado, the shot of the week (good from Monday, July 18 until Sunday, July 24) is Dirty Bong Water.

Dirty Bong Water

• 1 oz. Chambord
• 1 oz. Blue Curacao
• 1 oz. Amaretto
• 1 oz. Captain Morgan
• 1 oz. Sweet and Sour mix

Shake with ice and serve. Yes, that’s 5 ounces… but take it as a big shot. This is not a cocktail – though the proportions would say otherwise. Also, I don’t know why I always say that the shot is good from such and such of a date span… really, these shots are great anytime! So go now, buy some Dirty Bong Water at your favorite local bar, cheers!

Here at Last Call Marquette, we try to be a unique source that provides drink specials and local music updates. It hit me today when I was filling up my car – for over four bucks a gallon – that gas prices are awful and only getting worse! I wondered if gas existed just outside Marquette would be lower than $4.09, so I turned to Google. I didn’t find any earth shattering gas prices, but I figured I could easily offer an additional resource on LastCallMqt.com that will allow you to plan around gas prices a little better.

With all that being said, go over to our new “Got Gas?” page and see if you are getting the best deal on gas! We’re going to list the top 10 gas prices in Marquette County so you can decide whether or not driving out to Ishpeming is worth the savings. Here’s to crossing my fingers and hoping that one day gas will be back in the low three dollars range (what a sad thought).

Last Call Marquette is excited to welcome the U.S. Beer Pong Tour to Marquette, MI this weekend! They will be hosting their Marquette Tour Stop at the Upfront on Friday, April 8. Registration starts at 5:30pm and ends at 6:45pm; the tournament rules will be addressed at 6:45pm, with the games getting underway by 7pm. What are you playing for? Well, how does CA$H Money sound?

Sounds great to me! They will be offering $300 in Cash prizes!

There are a few ways to register, first – you can save money and pre-register online at their website. Or you can simply register at the event. Male Teams are $25 online ($30 at the event), Coed Teams are $15 either online or at the event, and for Girls ONLY teams… registration is FREE at the event (just show up and play)!

What would a Beer Pong Tournament be without some great drink specials!? From the start of registration until midnight – in the Tournament Room (banquet hall) only – you can get $2 drafts of Coors Light, $2 drafts of Leinenkugel Summer Shandy and $2 shots of Dr. McGillicuddy’s.

Last week we went to the fans for a suggestion, this week I think we need to do a little rewind. We did the Blow Job’s Revenge before we did the regular shot. For that reason, the shot of the week (good from Monday, January 10 until Sunday, January 16) is the Blow Job.

Blow Job

• 1/4 oz Bailey’s Irish Cream
• 1/2 oz Amaretto almond liqueur
• Whipped Cream

Pour the ingredients into a shot glass and top with whipped cream. Put your hands behind your back and put your mouth around the shot glass, tip your head back and swallow! If you have some CREAM laying around, which is alcohol infused whipped cream, use that! This shot can be enjoyed at most bars in Marquette, cheers!

It’s now officially 2011! To help me bring in the new year, I’m going to take a fan suggestion this week. I looked at our last fan suggestion (4 Horsemen) and it looks like this one is going to share the same ‘excitement’ as last time to actually try the shot. I am putting it at a 1 out of 20 readers will give it a try (errr… maybe 1 out of 100). In fact, if you are daring enough… capture it on video or take a picture and I will put it on the site! The shot of the week (good from Monday, January 3 until Sunday, January 9) is the Blow Job’s Revenge.

Blow Job’s Revenge

• Salt
• 1 oz Bailey’s Irish Cream
• 1 oz Lime Juice

Here’s how this vengeful shot goes 1) put salt in your mouth, 2) take the shot of Bailey’s (DON’T SWALLOW), 3) take the shot of Lime Juice (DON’T SWALLOW), 4) let it sit for a few seconds until it curdles in your mouth, 5) SWALLOW! Now, in the words of our fan suggester, Janessa, “It’s supposed to simulate the consistency of the male expenditure caused by blow jobs ”. Umm… thank you, Janessa? This shot can be consumed at most bars in Marquette, cheers!?

I just heard a new track from local hip-hop artist, JD. This is the first full length song released by the Marquette native. He wrote the track and titled it “Believe In Me“; it was produced by Nine Diamond of Shadowville Productions with additional guitar by Mike Krah (also of Marquette). The song was mixed by Brian Williams of Dubbs (Marquette).

The closest comparison to JD’s style would have to be Sam Adams (minus the electro beats). “Believe In Me” sounds like it was written for those that have been born and raised in Marquette, Michigan or at least hold Marquette near and dear to them. I did a little research when I was coming up with the Shot of the Week (which is the generic Jello Shot) and I found some great looking alcohol jello shots. I almost picked the jagerbomb Jello Shot for the ‘official’ pick, especially since I haven’t even featured the regular jagerbomb yet. So I will post the ingredients to this well thought out shot and let you decide if you want to make it.

JagerBomb Jell-O Shot

• 6 oz package Orange Jell-O
• 1 can Red Bull (instead of boiling water)
• 4 oz Jagermeister
• 2 oz Vodka
• 2 oz cold water

Refer to either the “A Shot to Connect 2010 with 2011” article or YouTube to go about how to make a typical Jello Shot. In this unique jello shot, you will replace the boiling water with red bull… yes, you will need to boil the red bull instead. But aside from that, all the same rules of how to make a jello shot apply. 1) Dissolve the powdered jello mix into boiling red bull; 2) Add the Jager, Vodka and cold water; 3) Distribute amongst your serving containers; 4) Refrigerate, let the jello set; 5) Serve/Eat/Enjoy!

The hardest shot for me to come up with seems to be the one that falls on New Year’s week. Last year I couldn’t come up with a “shot” that felt worthy, so I incorporated the first “Bomb Shot” into the feature. Well, here we are again, this year has come to an end and I find myself scratching my head as to what could be deemed ‘worthy’ to be celebrated as the shot for both 2010 and 2011. I’ve been avoiding the Jello Shots for over a year now because it’s not something that can be made on the spot, there is a little bit of pre-planning (and science) that goes into creating one. But hey, this is 2010 AND 2011 in the same week. So, it has been decided, the shot of the week (good from Monday, December 27, 2010 until Sunday, January 2, 2011) is the Jello Shot.

Strawberry Jell-O Shot

• 6 oz package Strawberry Jell-O
• 16 oz boiling water
• 10 oz Vodka
• 6 oz cold water
