Christmas is an assortment of practices and cultures that are all centred about love and sharing. This is why giving Christmas gifts is a common practice that has been made a tradition in many races around the world. In the face of an economic meltdown or inflation, one is confronted with practical sensibility; yet, getting away from the tradition is something that is hard to do. Spending less on cheap Christmas gifts can be a good solution. Being creative and innovative can infuse thoughtfulness into the gift.

It is hard to buy gifts when one is scrimping on the budget. Instead of going to malls to buy gifts, look around the house for ideas. Consider your talents and start from there.

1. Think Homemade

If you have not noticed yet, people are going crazy about back-to-basic and natural products. In fact, homemade, handmade, and personalised gifts and crafts are commanding heftier prices compared to commercially made products. So, go homemade. Gather some craft ideas and procedures from the Internet that makes use of stuff around the house as well as recyclables. Transform these into one-of-a-kind craft. Or you can visit www.treatrepublic.co.uk for personalised gifts.

2. Gastronomic Gift Ideas

Christmas celebrations can only come to life with gifts and food. So, why not gift your special friends and relatives with food that you have prepared yourself. Cookies, jams and jellies, jars of spices with recipes, homemade wine, etc. Pack these using vibrant and unique materials with some scrap ribbons, strings and fabrics.

3. Off the Rack Sale

Clearance sales occur year round so you can shop for Christmas virtually throughout the year. Save them up and start wrapping them before Christmas. Make sure that the items being saved as Christmas gifts are timeless and classic so their usefulness will not die down before the recipients get them.

4. Get Free Gifts

Look and apply for memberships that will reward you with points every time you read e-mails. Take surveys, shop online, etc. The reward points or gift cards can be saved up for Christmas shopping for everyone on your list.

There are still many great ideas out there to beat the recession. Inexpensive Christmas gifts need not be really cheap or shabby. Putting more thought and infusing artistry in wrapping gifts matter.

Accessories aren’t exclusive for us women. Men do accessorise too. And I’m not talking about just the ubiquitous watch. Men can also put some flair in their outfit using a variety of accessories such as chokers, bracelets, rings, and cufflinks. The first two are actually best used during casual occasions only. For more formal affairs, a dress watch, a simple ring, and fine cufflinks would more than add elegance to a man’s look.

For the man who’s dressed to impress, here are a few do’s and dont’s in accessorizing: Watch your watch! You may have the latest sports watch complete with compass, altimeter, and the likes, but wear it with a suit and you’d be way off mark. It is called a sports watch for a reason, you know. Never – and I mean absolutely never – wear one with any of your suits. For business meetings and formal dinners, stick to watches made from leather, stainless steel, or precious metals such as silver, gold, and platinum.

Keep your ring simple. Now isn’t the time to put on that quirky androgynous ring or that geeky green lantern-like ring. It may be a fun conversation starter but it’s best left for use during boys’ night outs or family day outs. For those who are married, the wedding ring should be the only one adorning your hands. Bachelors can opt to wear their college rings or perhaps a simple embellished ring.

It’s in the cufflinks! Here’s where you get to put some of your character in your accessories. The only rule here is to make sure you wear it right. Check out the selection at http://www.hsamuel.co.uk/webstore/l/jewellery/category|cufflinks/ which has a host of designs. Sports fanatics can opt for cufflinks that feature footballs, soccer balls, and the like. My husband’s a musician of sorts so I know he’ll love the one with electric guitars on them.

It really isn’t just about being well-groomed and well-dressed, the man of today should also know how to add some style to their outfit. Just these three types of accessory can up the style factor of any dashing gentleman.

Magnetic and copper jewelry have been used for many years as a way to help with health issues. If you are looking for a great place to purchase some copper or magnetic jewelry for your own use, then you need to check out Magnet Jewelry Store.

Their selection of copper jewelry is great. Not only do they offer the copper bracelets that most people are familiar with, but they also offer copper rings and anklets as well to help your circulation all over the body. Their selection includes a good amount of styles, which is great if you don’t want to wear the basic bracelet or ring. The different designs can fit any style, whether you are going out or just staying in at home or wearing them to work.

Copper jewelry is not the only kind of magnetic jewelry that they sell at Magnet Jewelry Store. They also sell stainless steel jewelry, hematite jewelry and others as well like magnetic insoles for your shoes. These can help if you find that you have a considerable amount of foot pain or fallen arches.

Shipping is great at the Magnet Jewelry Store. Most items ship out within 24 hours of your purchase, meaning that they will get to your home faster. They also clearly state their shipping prices and even give you estimates on how long it will take for you to receive your items. The items are packaged wonderfully, meaning you will not have to worry if your jewelry will arrive safely to your home.

Japan’s food offers an abundance of flavors and textures, making it one of the most decadent cuisines in the world. Numerous Japanese restaurants are considered top-notch, and apart from having high-class eateries, Japan also boasts a multitude of odd restaurants. Theme restaurants have become increasingly popular in Japan. From strange décor to over-the-top dishes, check out the list of the weirdest and craziest restaurants in Japan:

Felis Café: Managed by Hiroyuki Morota, the Felis Café offers a truly unique dining experience. But, it’s not the food that makes this café a tourist destination: It’s the fact that cats run in free-range inside the restaurant. The cats that are allowed in the restaurants are friendly, and they have all been tested to ensure that they’re healthy and disease-free. At this restaurant, you can interact with the friendly kitty cats while waiting to be served. Plus, you can even let them jump on the table with you. This restaurant will truly appeal to cat lovers world-wide.

The Cross-Dresser Café: The Cross-Dresser Café is one of the most unique restaurants in Japan because of its theme. At this café, the wait-staff, which are all males, must dress up as popular female characters. This restaurant offers a laid-back environment that all customers whether male or female will love. Oh, and the food is not bad; in fact, it will have you coming back for more.

Image (cc) Hamachi!/Flickr

Vampire Café: Although the food at the Vampire Café is really good, the décor might take your appetite away. From the blood splattered floors, to the broken mirrors, to the coffin plates, this restaurant takes the vampire theme to a whole new level.

Alcatraz E.R.: Continuing with the creepy, bloody theme, Alcatraz E.R. is a really over-the-top restaurant. Before entering the restaurant, guests need to say their blood type. If that isn’t creepy enough, the beverages are served in syringes and beakers, and the décor is fashioned after a well-known prisoner hospital. Furthermore, they serve ‘human intestines’ and ‘organs’, which are actually expertly prepared sausages and meats. Overall, this is a restaurant you should check out.

Café Malish: The waitresses at Café Malish dress up as maids and refer to every guest as ‘master.’ The food is also great, particularly the desserts like the cupcakes.

Monkey Madness: Monkey Madness is a really cool restaurant/bar. At this bar, monkeys serve your food and run the bar scene, making it an experience like no other. If that isn’t cool enough, guests get to pet and interact with the primates.

Arabian Rock: As the name implies, Arabian Rock’s theme is Arabian cuisine. From the soft Persian rugs on the floor to the unique European-Asian food, you’ll believe you’ve been transported to an Arabian wonderland.

There are other funky restaurants in Tokyo, such as one that look like a currency exchange store and sell chocolates in the shapes of gold coins. Make sure you visit some of these places during your next trip!

It’s been a while since I posted any life updates here and I feel like making a quarterly review of what’s been going on around me. But I won’t bore you with my whole life story because I already do that in my social networks. If you’d like to see how much I over share online, you can follow me on Twitter or Instagram.

What I wouldn’t mind sharing right now is my reading list. I love books and I love reading and sometimes I feel like I need to wear correction glasses because I read a lot: on my computer, my laptop, my iPhone and the book itself. Words can get blurred and it bothers me a lot but that wouldn’t stop me from reading!

Let’s talk about books baby!

I’ve been trying to read all of the books listed in the BBC The Big Read. There are 200 books in that list, but I’m still in the first 100 books and I’m not even half way that list, okay maybe a quarter or less.

According to my GoodReads account, I have read 16 books out of the 50 books that I’ve set to read in 2013, that’s 32% into my goal. Not bad for my 2013 reading challenge but still too slow in terms of finishing all of the books in The Big Read.

If you’d like to know more about the books I read in 2013, you can visit my book blog Late Bloomer Reads.

Getting ready for your big day is an exciting yet challenging time. Trying to balance the things you want with what you can afford can be a little dispiriting, so it’s time to put the odds in your favour. Smart wedding saving strategies allow you to afford the wedding of your dreams for less, and will help you to get your budget in shape. Here are 4 top tips to help you save for the wedding you’ve always wanted.

Get Control of Your Debt

Before you can start planning the best ways to save for your wedding, you need to evaluate your current financial situation. Overextending yourself will only land you in further debt and cause serious problems in the future, so it’s important to know what you can currently afford. To get a better understanding on how to eliminate your debt and receive professional budgeting assistance, speak to the team at Fox Symes. They have years of experience in helping Australians regain control of their finances, and work towards their savings goals. Make your wedding savings strategy stress-free with some professional debt help from the best in the industry.

Better Budgeting

To truly get the most out of your money, you should work on your budget and make sure that it reflects your wedding savings goals. Even if you have to do without some luxury items or non-essential purchases for a while, remember that this extra money is being invested in making your special day a truly memorable occasion.

Look for Affordable Alternatives

You’d be surprised just how much you can save if you keep an open mind to affordable alternatives. With the explosion of online shopping, you can literally save thousands of dollars by sourcing everything from your dream wedding dress to exquisitely handcrafted decorations through online purchasing. Get the wedding you’ve always dreamed of without breaking the budget by exploring all the available online options.

Get Started Today!

If you are planning on spending a cosy night at home with your sweetie this year on Valentine’s Day, you might be looking for a great movie to watch on your at-home date night. Although you and your sweetheart are sure to enjoy nearly any movie that you watch together on this day of love and affection, watching one of these five classic romance movies, along with some Valentines Day Flowers, will help set the mood for a lovely Valentine’s Day with your love.

Casablanca

A story about a steamy and exotic love triangle between two gentleman and one in-demand lady, Casablanca is considered one of the top classic romantic movies of all time. Filmed in 1942, this romantic tale is a winner with both younger and older audiences, and it includes an exotic international appeal along with a dramatic and heart-wrenching love story.

Gone with the Wind

Gone With the Wind is a much-loved movie all over the world. Although it is almost a four-hour movie, it seems as if no one can get bored while watching Gone with the Wind. Directed by Victor Fleming as an adaptation of a book of the same name, Gone with the Wind is set during and after the Civil War, and it tells the story of a spoiled girl from the South, named Scarlett O’Hara, who has fallen in love with Rhett Butler, a man who is roguish and tough, this movie is a classic tale that is sure to have you and your sweetheart longing for more.

The Philadelphia Story

Starring Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn, The Philadelphia Story is a much-loved movie starting simply because of the famous people who are in it. Poignant and comical, this cute little love story is a real favorite, and it really shows off the talent of Katharine Hepburn. In fact, this movie was filmed after she was literally written off by those in Hollywood at the time, but her performance really shined in this lovely little love tale, which is a somewhat dated film from 1940 that everyone can enjoy today.

An Affair to Remember

Considered to be one of the most romantic movies that was ever made, even to this day, An Affair to Remember is a passionate love story that was filmed in 1957. After two people who were already involved with others met and fell in love on an ocean liner, it was decided that the two of them would meet again in New York City in six months if they were both available to be together. Although something happened to put off this meeting, the two end up meeting up again through chance encounters, making for a lovely romantic story that is sure to set the mood off right on Valentine’s Day.

Breakfast at Tiffany’s

Starring Audrey Hepburn, Breakfast at Tiffany’s is a 1951 hit that people still enjoy watching to this day. A cheerful love story, this might be the perfect film for you and your sweetheart to watch for Valentine’s Day this year.

Catherine is studying horticulture and loves the art of flower arranging in her spare time. She loves sharing her tips and tricks with other fellow green thumbs and trying new things with her garden.

Turning 21 is an important milestone in your life, and making sure that your party is an absolute hit should be an important part of planning the event. If you’re looking to guarantee that your birthday is a night to remember, here are 4 ways to party like a rock star on your 21st.

Hire a Great Venue

While the real rock stars can afford to hire out entire nightclubs, not everyone has that kind of budget especially for a 21st birthday. Your choice of venue will have a huge impact on the atmosphere of your party, so make sure you give it some serious thought. Ideally, you’re looking for somewhere you can hire out a VIP area so you and your friends can enjoy your party in the most luxury possible. Take a look at their drinks menu, and see if they will cater for the occasion as well.

Get Your Heart Racing

You might not be able to go for a spin in your private jet, but you can get everyone’s adrenaline pumping with a seriously action packed party. You might want to organise this as a day activity before you party the night away, but consider activities like bungee jumping, a world-class rally driving race experience, high speed karting and anything else that will add a bit of excitement to your day. Once everyone has had their fill of the heart racing action, you can head out on the town for some more traditional birthday celebrations in the evening.

Theme It

Why not go all out and have a themed party! You can literally party like a rock star by making this your theme. From the unforgettable glam rock style to modern day grunge looks, having a rock star party allows everyone to dress up and get right in the spirit to party the night away. Including a rocking playlist and some quality props will make your party even more authentic. Your scope for other themes is almost endless, with popular ideas such as Alphabet parties, Heroes and Villains, Back to School and so many more.

Casino Night

This is one of the most popular 21st birthday ideas, and it’s easy to see why. Live like a high roller for a night while you and your friends party in serious style at the casino. Everything you need is all in one place, you can start with dinner and a couple of drinks in one of the exclusive restaurants, then hit the tables to get the party going. The benefit of a good night out at the casino is that there’s always the chance you’ll walk out a lot richer than when you came in!

However you decide to party, the important part is making sure that you have plenty of friends to party with! Set the date for your party well in advance so your friends can all save the date, and get the invitations out promptly. For the best in birthday invitations online, Vistaprint is simply unbeatable. Check them out to get the best deals on your 21st party invites. As for your party, remember it’s your attitude that makes it: so go and party like the rock star you are, and make your 21st a night to remember!

Choosing a wedding photographer is a difficult job. A wedding ranks amongst one of the most important events of a person’s life. The memories of that day must be perfect. Hence, the pictures must be perfect! First of all, the couple must know how much they want to pay for their photographer.

Image (cc) kongsky/FreeDigitalPhotos.net

Despite the amount which a couple has to remove from their wedding budget to get a qualified photographer, they have to find out themselves whether the photographer they will receive is the best one. A studio often hires all kinds of photographers. Obviously, a few amateurs are on the list. Everyone’s port folio looks glamorous. However, meeting the photographer in person will give the couple a better perspective.

The couple will be able to share their own thoughts with that of the photographer and find out about the photographer’s personality. To search for a certain photographer, a look at the wedding photographers directory lists might help too. Recommendations from friends and family members who recently hired photographers are definitely a big help.

Style and quality of the photographs are hugely important. Lighting is a hugely vital part of photography. Nobody wants to see the background blackened out in a picture because of poor lighting. Also, images need to be crisp and taken with a professional digital camera. As far as style is concerned, some photographers’ styles may not appeal to a couple because his or her photography might lack ‘adventure’ for example. Choosing a style which appeals to the couple is hugely important.

The style and quality a photographer produces from his perspective is incredibly vital. If the images he clicks are dull and show no emotion, he is not the photographer a couple will want. After the wedding the only memories are those photographs. A couple would surely prefer to choose a photographer who takes emotionally charged and thought provoking pictures.

Consistency is another aspect to keep in mind. Whether a photographer takes white and black pictures, coloured pictures or a mixture of both, the entire collection should tell a story. The pictures should stick together; not a single picture should stick out too much from the collection.

The end product matters too. Will the photographer be willing to create an album or slideshow for the couple? Or will he simply provide the couple with the negatives? Making sure that the couple receives the end product they want is essential.

Previously, the price of a photographer was mentioned. An equally important factor is the service the photographer provides. On the wedding day, a couple would definitely prefer a photographer who they can get along with easily. This is very important as the photographer will have to interact with guests too during the wedding.

After choosing a photographer, a couple generally has to be prepared to pay up to fifty percent of the total cost. The rest will need to be paid prior to the wedding day. Also, sometimes a contract might need to be signed when acquiring a photographer’s skills. The importance of reading through the contract cannot be discounted. A couple has to be sure before choosing their photography.

And finally, these are the ways to find a great photographer for a wedding. Never underestimate the value of good photography! After all, a wedding day is a memory which is reserved for many years. The perfect photographer will be able to find a way to preserve those memories for many years to come.

One of the most giggling moments in a woman’s life is the time when her boyfriend finally found the courage to ask for her hand in marriage. The entire moment wouldn’t be complete without the presence of that shining shimmering band that he’s about to place in your left ring finger. You can choose from the numerous engagement rings Dallas has been offering.

A man in love would basically want everything to be perfect and since most of engagement parties are done through memorable surprises, here are some of the unique engagement ideas that they might consider to have.

Flight Memo – make friends with one of the flight attendants inside the plane you’re both riding on your usual escapades. You can let her read your prepared poem through the plane audio as if giving a memo to everybody. With an ending line of “will you marry me” and the presentation of a sparkling ring with diamonds Dallas has perfected.

Flash Mob – have the guts to sing and dance in the center of a shopping mall during your normal day strolling with your convincing mall shoppers.

Billboard Craze – LED billboards are all over town these days and if you really have the cash, a short ad will do the trick. Take her in front of the board and let the entire city witness your love story.

Prank Madness – you can make a deal with your girlfriend’s boss and plan some sort of boss-getting-angry situation. All of a sudden, make a scene as if saving her by asking her hand for marriage.

These are just few of the unique yet romantic wedding proposals that guys can use and can have a higher chance of hearing the most precious “yes” from their girlfriend. Not all wedding proposals are successful but you’ll never know the outcome if you’re too afraid to do it. And remember, finding the perfect engagement rings Dallas might also help your quest to make it perfect for your girl.
