The new series Carson On TCM will showcase the best of Johnny Carson’s Hollywood interviews from his time as host of NBC’s The Tonight Show.

Carson On TCM will begin on the 1st July with a Drew Barrymore interview from 1982. Other interviews to be featured throughout the series include Kirk Douglas, Mary Tyler Moore, Doris Day, Charlton Heston, Tony Curtis, Ronald Reagan, Robin Williams, Mel Brooks, Bette Davis, Fred Astaire, Henry Fonda and Elizabeth Taylor.

Long-time host of The Daily Show, Jon Stewart, is taking some time off the show to allow him to shoot his first feature film Rosewater in the Middle East for 12 weeks.

John Oliver started off his career as a standup comedian gigging in and around London, then made a break onto BBC TV with weekly satirical comedy panel show Mock The Week, and moved to New York when he was 29 years old to become Senior British Correspondent on Comedy Central favourite The Daily Show.

In a phone interview with BuzzFeed he recalls his first appearance on The Daily Show – “I just finished the thing and it all happened in a blur, and J.K. Rowling was sitting in the audience… and I could have presumed I just hallucinated it. And then she came around afterwards, just to say, ‘Well done.’”. With John starstruck he said “she kind of gave me a hug and told me to calm down”.

It will certainly be interesting to see how John Oliver does hosting The Daily Show over the summer especially covering British news stories such as the upcoming birth of the royal baby.

John Oliver’s first show is tonight (airing tomorrow on Comedy Central UK) with guest Seth Rogen, British comedy writer Armando Iannucci on Tuesday then Mavis Staples on Wednesday with Fareed Zakaria on Thursday.

Letterman usually keeps away from these types of events but came to this one to promote his CBS talk show which is going head-to-head with The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon from next year.

CBS Corp. CEO Les Moonves said “What’s going on out there in late-night? All of a sudden, everybody’s got a Jimmy: they have a Jimmy, they have a Jimmy… we thought we don’t have a Jimmy. Jimmy Buffet is too tropical, Jimmy Carter too political, Jimmy Hoffa not available. There are a lot of Jimmys out there but there is only one Dave, David Letterman”. Dave then came out to a huge applause and joked “I’m honored to be here for your pledge drive”.

The Hollywood Reporter says “NBC spent seven months working on plans that called for the combining of Studios 6B and 8G and turning them into a megastudio for Fallon as well as a showy theater for NBCUniversal to screen movies. Including a balcony, the facility would have fit an audience of 400″ but “recently was scrapped, says an insider, and now when Fallon becomes host of Tonight, he’ll have to settle for a mere $5 million renovation of Studio 6B, where he currently hosts Late Night With Jimmy Fallon”.

Works will begin this summer and for six months Late Night With Jimmy Fallon will move to Studio 6A until the new look Studio 6B is ready for The Tonight Show.
