Saturday, April 4, 2020 - come celebrate the Gippsland Lakes

​​Festival of the Lakes is a celebration of the Gippsland Lakes environment and sustainability.

Held at the rotunda near the Lakes Entrance footbridge, there will be a chance to chat with community groups, visit market stalls, see and learn more about native animals, face painting, music, stand up paddle boarding as well as a speaker program to learn more about sustainable living as well as projects happening in and around the Gippsland Lakes.

​​Get excited, 'cause Hooked on Lakes Entrance is back for the fourth year running on Sunday 8 March 2020!

This is THE event for seafood lovers and recreational fishers looking for food, fishing and family fun on the Labour Day long weekend.

Come and support local Victorian commercial fishers and businesses in the Gippsland region, who need your help to recover from the devastating bushfire season. There's plenty of fresh seafood and produce to be had, so make sure you come with an #emptyesky to help support them.

​March 7 and March 8, 2020 Long Weekend - cycle the Rail Trail

​Cycle the East Gippsland Rail Trail and Gippsland Lakes Discovery Trail over three days while staying two nights in the cute and quirky village of Nowa Nowa, perched on the edge of Lake Tyers. 

Each day you will be picked up at the rides end in Orbost, Lakes Entrance and Bairnsdale for transfer back to Nowa Nowa. 

This is a great way to experience the rail trail at a special package price as we support the little town of Nowa NOwa whose businesses were left empty during the peak fire crisis.

The East Gippsland Rail Trail is fabulous car free cycling with gentle hills. In spite of recent fires in East Gippsland, the trail corridor was almost completely unaffected, leaving the scenery as lovely as ever.

The trail passes through forest and farmland, and has many historic timber bridges as welll as small towns with friendly people and great food. Perfect for a long weekend cycle!

Bush Cafe featuring indigenous Gunaikurnai culture.

​Bush Café is a new venue recently opened in West Kalimna (just out of Lakes Entrance) that aims to promote and share the local Gunaikurnai culture.

The food will feature local indigenous ingredients and flavours and the venue will also provide employment and education opportunities for Gunaikurnai people.

Checkout their delicious range of gourmet indigenous bush foods prepared by local chefs.

Easy to find ... it's on the Melbourne side of Lakes Entrance, on the Princes Hwy. Look out for the Forestech building and turnoff into Scriveners Road. Easy to find on Google Maps.

Open Monday to Friday - 9:30am till 3:00pm.

Brackenbush Unleashed - a new off-leash dog park for dog lovers.

​​The new Brackenbush Unleashed off-leash dog park is now open 7 days per week during daylight hours.

The park has 3 main areas for letting your dogs run free. Fully fenced with compostible toilets and pooper scoopers available.

If your dog is not a social being, then there is a park enclosure just for them, until they are used to the other dogs. You and your dog are the only ones allowed in this enclosure.

Once your dog is used to the other dogs, through the chain fence, then you can move them into a more social environment, with other dogs.

All this is set in a bush setting, with access to additional bush walks.

To get there, from Lakes Entrance, just follow Myer Street (it turns into Ostlers Road) up to the T-intersection near the Pet-O-Tel. Then turn left into Colquhoun Road. Follow this road until you come to the Airport. Turn right into Hoggs Lane, right beside the Airport. Continue down Hoggs Lane until you see the sign to the left, into the driveway.

​How to book a Helicopter flight around Lakes Entrance?

​Lakes Entrance Helicopters have started scenic flights around the Gippsland Lakes and will continue well into the summer months.
