Disable Automatic CHKDSK Option

Windows startup after a sudden shutdown leads to an annoying feature chkdsk. It automatically checks the entire drive for any infected files. This checking can be skipped by pressing any key before it starts during the blue screen which says:

"Checking file system on C:
The type of file system is NTFS.

One of the drives needs to be checked for consistency. You may cancel the disk check, but it is strongly recommended that you continue.
To skip disk checking, press any key within 10 second(s)."

The problem is that skipping is only a temporary option and though it is highly recommended, this chkdsk can be disabled manually. Even if the checking is skipped, it would prompt again during the next windows boot up.

1. start->Run -> cmd

2. and Type chkntfs /x (for example : chkntfs /x d: )

3. Try to type all drives

4. Restart your Computer

No matter how much dots you put in your GMAIL username, it remains the same

Gmail doesn't recognize dots as characters within usernames so it does not matter how much dots you add to your Gmail's Username, the Gmail will ignore dots and thus your Gmail Username will remain the same.

You might get surprised to see messages sent to a username which is similar to yours but have dot(s) within username. Well! don't get surprised as Gmail doesn't recognize dots as characters within usernames. :)

Suppose if someone has the email ID like salmankhan@gmail.com, the messages sent to all below email addresses will be dropped in salmankhan@gmail.com

Sal.man.khan@gmail.com

All above addresses belong to the same person. You can see this if you try to sign in with your username, but adding or removing a dot from it. You'll still go to your account.

So, you can add or remove the dots from a Gmail address without changing the actual destination address and they will all go to your inbox.

Windows 2000 Professional step by step installation process

The Windows 2000 Professional installation step-by-step procedure with screenshots.

A. Set your computer to boot from the CD-ROM drive by changing computer BIOS Boot Sequence setting.

B. Insert Windows 2000 Professional installation CD into the CD-ROM drive and reboot the computer so that the computer will boot from Windows 2000 Professional installation CD-ROM that already on the CD-ROM drive.

C. After your computer boot the Windows 2000 Professional installation CD-ROM, the Windows 2000 Setup then start checking the system configuration and loading files driver.

1) Windows Setup Screen:

Shall we begin?

After configuring the system for booting from a CD, the Windows Setup screen appears.

At this point, Setup is loading the driver files it needs to continue with installation.

2) Welcome to Setup:

The Welcome to Setup screen appears with the option of Continuing Setup, Repair a previous installation, or Quitting.

Press ENTER to Continue Setup, R to Repair, or F3 to Quit and reboot the system.

3) Windows 2000 Licensing Agreement:

The Windows 2000 Licensing Agreement screen, otherwise known as EULA, displays the legal in's and out's of this particular software package.

You may press F8 to signify that you agree with the terms, hit ESC if you do not agree and PAGE UP or PAGE DOWN to scroll through each screen. Note: If you do not agree to the terms, setup will quit and reboot the system.

4) Hard drive partition information:

Hard drive partition information is now displayed. This varies with each systems hardware configuration.

This example already has a partition defined. I will choose not to use this and create a new one by pressing D. You may skip this and the next few steps if you do not have any partitions defined.

At this point, the options include pressing ENTER to Install on the selected partition, D to Delete the selected partition, or F3 to Quit and reboot the system.

5) Warning screen:

After pressing D to delete the selected partition, a warning screen appears explaining the pitfalls of deleting it. This particular screen only appears when the partition selected to be deleted is formatted as a bootable system partition. Other partitions will display the next screen.

I want this to happen, so I press ENTER to continue.

The options include pressing ENTER to continue, or ESC to Cancel.

6) Confirmation screen:

A confirmation screen that displays the logical drive, what file system the partition is currently using, the size in MB and controller information.

Options include L to Delete the partition and ESC to Cancel the action.

7) No partitions have been previously defined:

If no partitions have been previously defined, this screen will be displayed. You may section your hard drive in as many partitions as you wish by selecting C to Create a Partition and then entering in a value less then the total available. Here, I will Create a Partition in the highlighted, unused portion.

Select the partition you wish to install to using the UP ARROW and DOWN ARROW keys.

Press ENTER to use the highlighted partition and Install, C to Create a Partition, or F3 to Quit and reboot the system.

8) Enter in the partition size:

Enter in the partition size in MB within the displayed minimum and maximum. I chose the default or maximum available here.

You may choose ENTER to Create the new partition or ESC to Cancel the action.

9) Continue to create partitions:

Continue to create partitions until all space is used or the configuration meets your requirements. Note: a small portion will be unavailable to partition. This is normal. In this example, it is 4 MB.

I chose drive C: to install the Operating system.

You may choose ENTER to Install to the selected partition, D to Delete the highlighted Partition, or F3 to Quit and reboot the system.

10) Format the partition:

Since this OS supports NTFS, format the partition with it. If you do not, many folder and file security features will be unavailable. Note: If you are dual booting your system, a previous OS will not be able to read the local information. This is a fact with Windows 9x and Me. If you have a requirement to view this partition from another OS installed on the system, do not format it as NTFS. Also, the boot partition must be formatted with FAT32 if you wish to dual boot. I have found no problems accessing a NTFS partition mapped as a network drive from an older OS.

Select what format you wish to use by pressing the UP ARROW and DOWN ARROW keys.

Press ENTER to confirm your selection and Continue or ESC to Cancel.

11) Setup formats the partition:

Watch the progress bar as Setup formats the partition, or get up and get a soda. It may take awhile.

12) Creating File List:

Setup is now figuring out what files to copy over to the hard drive.

13) Setup copies various files:

After the partition is finished formatting, Setup copies various files to support booting from the hard drive and continue on.

14) Creating various information files:

Setup then creates various information files required to continue on with setup

15) Press ENTER to Restart

The first reboot and the end of the blue background has arrived. If you are impatient, press ENTER to Restart before the 15 seconds expire.

Windows 2000 will begin installing devices, such as "mouse and keyboard," even though you

have already been using them. :)

20) Region and Input Languages:

A little while later, you will be prompted with options of configuring your Region and

Input Languages. The default was fine for me, so I selected Next.

21) Enter in your name:

Enter in your name and optional Organization information, then select the Next button

24) Date, Time and Time Zone:

Configure the proper information for the Date, Time and Time Zone here.

Networking information is now setting up.

26) Network Settings Dialog:

The Network Settings Dialog is next. Under usual circumstances, the Typical settings are fine, but I never choose them so I can poke around under the hood. I selected Custom here.

Choose your method and select the Next button.

27) Custom settings:

TCP/IP Properties contains the standard options. Adjust them for your particular needs as required. For now, I kept the default settings. Basically, it is using DHCP to configure

TCP/IP.

Select the Advanced button to further configure your TCP/IP options.

In the custom settings, many options are abound. I cannot go into all of them here, so I will leave everything as default.

28) Workgroup or Computer Domain?

Workgroup or Computer Domain, that is the question. I am not going to set up this system to connect to a domain controller, so I will place it as a member of a workgroup.

Please, change "WORKGROUP" to something else. I hate defaults. :)

Select the Next button after making your choice and entering your configuration

29) Copying files:

Installation of all files and components may take awhile. Sit back and watch the pretty bar wander across the screen. :)

30) Final Tasks:

After the files finish the transfer, setup performs final tasks. including setting up the start menu and cleaning up temporary directories.

31) Setup Finished:

The system will reboot after selecting the Finish button on this dialog.

32) Windows 2000 is starting up:

The moment we have all been waiting for, Windows 2000 Professional is starting up "for the first time." Remember that quoted statement with Windows 95 setup?

33) Network Wizard:

Windows 2000 Network ID Wizard is displayed with the option of canceling or selecting Next.

I chose Next here.

34) Click Back:

At this point, an initial option was not offered.

Click the Back button to see it.

35) Choose your option:

Here, I choose to select the second option of The computer is part of a home network and not part of a business network.

Does it make any difference? Not sure, but it makes me feel better.

After choosing your option, select Next to continue.

36) Auto Login:

Windows 2000 offers the ability for you, right now, to create a user account, password it, and "always login" as this person.

This is what I "usually" do as I have no worries about anyone in the house cracking the system, but if your circumstances warrant it, I would not have auto login enabled. However, you should still create a "normal" user account and not always use the Administrator account for daily activities.

NEVER leave an account unpassworded.

37) Windows 2000 Desktop:

Since I chose to auto login, I did not get the pop up dialog asking for password.

The desktop is now displayed!

Any Folder as a Photo Folder

This tricks shows you how to setup any folder to display its contents as a photo folder. In many cases, you save your images/photos in a folder different than "My Pictures" (under "My Documents"). Since this folder you choose is just like any other normal folders, its contents displayed as a listing of files. You can temporary change it by just right-click and select "View" >> "Thumbnails". But if you want to change the folder so that everytime you come back, the folder itself, as well as all its subfolders, display the contents as photo thumbnails.

Here's How

Right-click on the folder you choose and select "Properties"

Select "Customize" Tab. Then under "Use this folder type as a template", select "Pictures (best for many files)"

Check on "Also apply this template to all subfolders" to apply the setting to subfoders as well

Click OK to exit

This trick shows you how to add some additional information to a Microsoft Word document. The information can be the name of the author, company, title, revision number, etc... When you open the folder which contains your document, and point the mouse to the document, the information will be displayed.

1. Design the icon and save it as png (ico is preferred, but it's harder to upload). The preferred resolution is 16x16, but i saved mine at 22x22 for greater quality, and it seems it works :) (i think 36x36 is the limit)

2. Upload the icon somewhere (photobucket, pages.google.com), and copy the link

3. Go to Edit HTML under the Template tab in your blog's

4. Find the follwowing line (Ctrl+f) : <title><data:blog.pagetitle/></title>

5. Insert this code below it: <link href='URL of your icon file' rel='shortcut icon' type='image/vnd.microsoft.icon'/> (replace "URL of your icon file" with the link you've copied at step 2)

6. Save the template

In order to see the change, close your page, delete the temporary internet files from your browser and reopen your page

Repair Window XP without installation CD

HOW TO REPAIR WINDOW XP WITHOUT INSTALLATION CD.

Surprised!!! Many readers will shout that this is not possible.
Just relax! It is possible and 100% tested method.

There are times when for some unknown reasons, the registry entries or system files are corrupted and leave behind lots of error messages and tension for their users.
Here is the one amazing (must be) method for RESTORING those files using a program called WEBFOLDERS XP REPAIRING SYSTEM.
This amazing program is located right there in your pc and can be run from RUN COMMAND!!!
Ok!

Just follow these steps:

1. Click on START and then RUN.

2. Type "webfldrs.msi" (without quote)

This will start the process to repair your window's problems.
Follow the instructions. In next screen, choose SELECT REINSTALL MODE.
A new window will appear.
Put check marks on all the options and click OK.
This will take few minutes so you can take rest and just go to cafeteria and enjoy COFFEE! When the process will complete, it will ask for RESTART your pc.
Just Restart your computer and you will be amazed that you have fixed the problems without having BOOTABLE or INSTALLATION CD.

Computer Continuously Rebooting After XP SP3 is installed

I've had a few computers that will not boot correctly after I've installed Windows XP Service Pack 3 on them. The computer finishes the install and then prompts for a reboot. The computer will start to reboot then give a BSOD Stop Error for a second and reboot again. This process will continue unless the computer is started in Safe Mode. In Safe mode the computer boots correctly and everything seems fine.

This problem only appears on some systems after upgrading to SP3. This particular problem on systems that have been prepared with SysPrep. The sysprep image was created on an Intel based computer, and then the sysprep image is deployed on a Non-Intel system such as an AMD processor. In these cases, the registry entry for Intelppm is incorrectly set and causes the computer to go into a continuous reboot after the service pack has installed
How Can I Solve This Problem?
Follow
these steps to resolve this issue with the computer not booting

correctly after SP3 is installed.
1) Start your computer in Safe Mode.
2) Click on Start, Run, and type REGEDIT and press Enter. This will open the Registry Editor.
3) Click the pluses(+) next to the following registry keys to navigate to the
correct spot.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
SYSTEM
CurrentControlSet
Services
Intel ppm

4) In the right hand column find the entry titled START and double-click on it
5) Change the number to 4 and click Ok
6) Close the Registry Editor
7) Shut down your computer and restart

This time the computer should restart normally and finish the installation of SP3

Error Copying Files or Folder

Some times people say that suddenly their drive become write protected and they are not able to delete any files and folder on the drive and also not able to copy new files and folder to USB portable drive.

• Cannot copy files and folders, drive is write protected

• Cannot format the drive, drive is write protected

• The disk is write protected

• Remove write protection or use another disk

• Media is write protected

Let’s see how can you remove write protection on your portable devices like pen drives, memory cards, iPod and other USB mass storage devices.

Fix:

Write Protection on any portable USB Device can be applied by the physical lock provided on the card adjuster or some times provided on the pen drives, so make sure to make your drive not write protected by moving the lock in right direction.

But even after moving the physical lock for write protection the problem can happen due to some virus action. This happens when some virus or script which applies the registry hack to make any drive write protect when connected to the computer, In that case follow the procedure below to remove write protection from your pen drive

1. Open Start Menu >> Run, type regedit and press Enter, this will open the registry editor.

2. Navigate to the following path:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies

Note: If the registry key StorageDevicePolicies key does not exist, you will need to create it

Download this batch file called add.bat from here, and double click after download the key will be automatically added to registry.

3. Double click the key WriteProtect in the right pane and set the value to 0 in the Value Data Box and press OK button

4. Exit Registry, restart your computer and then again re-connect your USB pen drive on your computer. That is it, done.

In case you still find an issue, please leave a comment below.

If the above method does not work for you, follow the below steps:

1. Copy all the important data from this drive to your computer because this method will format the drive and erase all the data on the pen drive.

2. Now download the Apacer Formatting Utility, Unzip this utility to a folder on your hard disk, preferably on a folder on desktop screen for easy access (Do Not Try To Save it on pen drive). Keep your pen drive plugged in, and double click on the Start.bat file in the folder where you unzipped the above utility. This will start formatting your pen drive, wait till the formatting completes and the LED on your pen drive stops blinking. Remove your pen drive after than and plug it in again.

The above two steps will solve the problem. If you still face the problem, follow the below steps:

1. Goto Start > Run, type cmd and press enter, this will open command prompt.

2. Type the following command on the command prompt replacing X with the drive letter of your pen drive.

CHKDSK X: /F

The above two methods will help you fix the problem.

Note: For all those who are out of luck in fixing the problem with their portable drives, I would suggest you to get your drives checked or replaced by the manufacturer to fix it for you
