I have been to Scotland with a few old friends from NG/FZ/NG when I saw a flaming bush in a church yard.

All effects done in camera: time, exposure, aperture and movement. RAW development as supporting act.

So for sure I could see with the naked eye that there was a guy driving the crane about 8 storeys up at the building site.

I could not see that he was lighting a smoke, though....

I didn't have to work today, so I started off at Patty's ...

After breakfast I went for a hike at a local wildlife preserve. I put my Nikon 200mm Micro on the E-M5 II with a Novoflex adapter and headed down the trail. I was curious to see how my new (ish) camera would handle a 400mm equivalent handheld.

Just after I started, something flew across the trail in front of me. Due to the commotion of smaller birds I thought it might be a hawk, but as I approached:

The Barred Owl was very accommodating and seemed not to mind my presence at all. It helped that I had accidentally picked just the right focal length for this walk and was able to keep my distance.

The IBIS seemed to work pretty well. I shot mostly at ISOs of 800 or 1600 to keep the shutter reasonbly high. Focus was, of course, manual and I wasn't that good at it. I forgot how to zoom in the viewfinder for critical focusing -- a penalty of going back and forth between systems. Still, I got a few shots today that pleased me.

Still assisting with video at weddings and slowly building up a portfolio of documentary type shots. I've decided not to enter this market as a primary shooter just yet, but I will do documentary stuff for couples who see the value in this. Here's the page I put together for this service.

Mother of the bride, with the proceedings reflected in her glasses. I wish her hair wasn't in the glasses and I suppose I could clone it out, but for now it will live on. Shot with the Oly E-M1 and 50-200 SWD.

...however I really liked the visual result of taking a 4:3 crop from a 400% enlargement of a photo taken a6 560mm from 1.25km distance, resampled to 12x18" @ 360ppi and warmed up in Color Efex 4.

Not everything has to be resolved at a hundred lines per mm and presented uncropped to work.

My wife and I shot a Beach Installation for an Artist friend . I was shooting Nikon/Sony and she was using two EM1's. These were taken by her sitting on the beach as the cast ran towards her .

Taken a couple of years ago in Kensington here in Toronto.
This is John, a very interesting and eclectic fellow who lives in the market. A Renaissance Man of many talents, I often see him as I walk through the streets and I always stop and chat when we meet.
This was a grab-candid taken while he and a group of his friends were just sitting together and enjoying the day, and each other.

A very hungry Heron

Mi-Anne (My better half) was out birding at Ridgefield NWR with our daughter this morning -- getting in a little practice for the real-deal safari in September -- when they came across this Heron who decided to snack on a bull frog.

I can't believe what this thing swallowed whole!

The girls could hardly watch - thankfully they kept shooting!

Deer Creek Trail

Our hike yesterday was on a new trail, for us, in the Santa Fe National Forest.

It mostly goes along a small stream, with numerous crossings, amidst a wonderful conifer forest including junipers, pines, and firs. It also has amazing boulders and rock formations.

There was very little water in the creek, so we will be returning earlier in the season to view the many pools and small waterfalls.

Although the trailhead is just off a major interstate, it was a great surprise how quickly the traffic sounds disappeared, and we were soon engulfed in vast stillness.

As if it isn't sad enough that people have to resort to this kind of activity, the ultimate irony is that this was photographed in Nathan Philip's Square about 100 yards from the seat of our municipal government, the Toronto city Hall.
