Experience is used to gain ranks which in turn unlocks new equipment (weapons and armor primarily, but also clothing apparel which have no impact in gameplay besides how you look). There are three areas for experience which contribute towards the "leveling" experience, each of the three areas unlock separate items at certain points besides the generic level unlocks. Experience in general is gained simply from kills, the three sub-areas gain points or experience by killing people in specific manner, such as through cover or at long range.

auto-regen - only in human form, the others need to drain life energy from other source (though usually this is handled by Scree who then channels it to Jen).

fauns - large and muscled
merfolk - very inhuman, but still humanoid upper body.

tangible abstracts - order and chaos.

performance issues - in Aquis courtyard at least, the framerate drops significantly.
cutscene skip - unfortunately does not include the shapeshifting animation.

--- notes
Scree can climb stonework walls, should perhaps be categorized as ladders (shrubbery-type) due to their rarity.

literal experience - weapon skills and spell mastery.
random encounters - only when traveling in the overworld.
cannibalism - depends on the character's chosen species, some have innate moral problems doing this (trolls will eat anything, however).
mitotic creatures - white worms split indefinitely and fill whole levels if not stopped (wiped out). Gremlins do the same but require exposure to water (the dark cave they're found in has water in it).
karmic creatures - the namesake, anything with "karmic" in its name is dangerous to attack, not because of their own power but because of the karmic backlash.

tangible abstracts - Chaos, usually in form of mutating corruption.

# averted #
level scaling - only present in a cave northwest of Terinyo, the small village you encounter early on.

Volleyball is one of Nintendo's early sports titles. In Japan, Volleyball was only released on the Famicom Disk System. Basically there are three difficulty levels. Training, women and men, with men being the fastest and thus most difficult mode. Of course there is also a player vs. player mode. This Volleyball game might be the best Volleyball game you could play at its time on your TV screen, but it is yet far from perfect. Controls are hard to master. Spikes are very hard to time and need much practice. The computer player's spikes on the other hand are extremely hard to counter and are lightning-fast, especially in men mode. Graphics and sound are rather disappointing; well at least the strange hip movement of players that are standing still gave me a smile.
