SimCity is OpenSource

GPL code, called Micropolis, has been donated by Electronic Arts of all corporations! How is this possible?! (Armageddon must be just around the corner). Well, people have been saying for years that EA is evil and sometimes EA even offers [game=#38049]proof[/game]. But EA must have finally believed it when someone pointed out they weren't contributing anything to to the One Laptop Per Child project. SimCity itself remains proprietary. EA is reserving their right to approve or disapprove of the use of their trademarkes which have been removed from the released code; which is called Micropolis (SimCity's working title). This means that future versions of Micropolis could carry the official 'SimCity' trademark but only with EA's prior approval. The code has been update from 'creative' C to ANSI C++ by Don Hopkins, who did the SunOS port of SimCity.
Get it! Get it!
New lightweight Mozilla browser, Fennec

Fennec alpha 1 was released to the public on 2008-12-23. Named after arguably the world's cutest predator. Fennec is a Mozilla based browser aimed at the mobile computer market (tablets, cell phones, MIDs). With Firefox 3.0 becoming a bloated beast, some people are discussing the possibility of using Fennec on their desktop instead. It already has over 150 add-ons. Including noscript.

Its supposed to use less than 6MB, load google.com in under three seconds, download faster, automatically pan and zoom, have and all-in-one search and address bar, block popups, add/update/remove itself and add-ons (No PC host needed), and be QT compatible (KDE users rejoice).
Bethesda decided, without anyone asking them to (or being required to do so by anything), to censor the Japanese release. This includes changes such as removing NPC Burke from the Power of the Atom side-quest and the option to detonate the a-bomb in the city of Megaton.

2008-07-18 — the development of Mythos 'went on hiatus' but this appears to be either temporary or the developers are moving on to another project. The game had been in beta for quite some time, so this was rather unexpected and many outsiders seem to believe this is related to the layoffs at Flagship.
