BASICS OF A WEB PAGE

When you create a Web design, one of the more overlooked aspects of the design is the layout. Now, many people think about how to do a layout (CSS, tables, frames, etc.), but the basics of Web layout are often completely ignored.

1. Space and white space.

Use the whole space, but don't be specific in your use. In other words, use relatively sized layout sections on your Web pages, so that they expand and contract to fit the browser window.

Keep screen resolution in mind. While the majority of computer users have moved away from 640x480 resolution, keep that in mind when you're designing. Having customers leave because all they can see is a logo on their monitor is not good customer service.

Use color to define spaces. If you want to have a page that's a specific width, why not center it on the browser screen and make the background color of the page a different color? This will help the page appear to resize for different browsers; larger browsers will just have more background color showing, while smaller browsers will have less or none showing.

2. Images and Graphics

Align your images. One of the most common newbie layout mistakes is to slap images into a page willy-nilly without thought to layout. If you just use an img tag and then write text to follow it, you'll have the image and then one line of text to the right of it. Using the align attribute will help make your images part of the layout.

Balance the graphics and text on a page. It's easy to get carried away with lots of images and animations, but they can make a page very hard to read. When you're considering your layout, remember that images are a major part of the design, not just afterthoughts.

3. Text width.

Think about text width. This is often called the "scan length", and refers to how many words are displayed on one line. Most people can comfortably read about 7 to 11 words on a line. Longer than that, and the text is hard to read, shorter than that and it's disjointed and distracting. When designing your layouts make sure that the major text area displays the text in a readable width.

Centering text is inadvisable. One of the first layout techniques that a new designer learns is the center tag, and they center everything on their pages. However, centering is very difficult to do well and it's often hard to read.

4. Buttons, Links and hyperlinks.

Can be default, custom and new, either in flash, graphics, text only, images, icons or anything that takes a visitor to a new environment where more information can be accessed or continuation of a process.

Welcome buddy on these post I will be sharing with you on how to increase or rather maximize your Adsense revenue as I did promised on my last post on what is google adsense There is a great deal more to making money from Adsense than just putting up a site and putting Google Adsense ad code on those pages. In fact, successful Adsense publishers spend several hours per week – after the site is built and the ads are running – ensuring that they are getting the absolute most possible revenue from those Adsense sites, by using a variety of optimization techniques.

First, use the channels feature in your Adsense account. This allows you to assign different sites to different channels, so that you are able to see which topics/sites are the most profitable for you.

With this information, you can easily focus more time and energy on those sites that are making the money, and less time and energy on those that are not.

Successful publishers also like to experiment. They can create customized reports in their Adsense account, and then try different colors, different ad formats, and different placement to see what is getting the best results for their sites.

You should do this, and continue doing this, until you feel that you are getting the best possible results for each of your websites.

What works on one website may not work well on another. However, according to Google and many successful Adsense publishers, placing a rectangular ad unit just below your headline, but above the main content of your page, will yield higher clicks. Welcome buddy on these post I will be discussion on the term “Google Adsense” which most of my folks have been asking me to tell them about, now to main topic: Adsense is a program for webmasters which was implemented by the famous Google some years ago.”

Essentially, a webmaster (a person who owns and builds one or more websites) signs up for an account with the program, and once they are approved, they paste the Google Adsense javascript code into the pages on their websites.

Google then starts serving ads to those websites, based on the keywords that it finds in the text of the page. When a visitor clicks on one of those ads, the webmaster makes money – usually a few cents per click.

However, when a site has a great deal of traffic, and when the webmaster knows which keywords are the most profitable to target, there is a lot of money to be made.

It sounds simple enough, but it’s really NOT that easy. First of all, you have to be approved – and Google is picky these days. The good news is that once one site is approved, and you have a Google Adsense account, there is no need to seek Google’s approval to use Adsense on any other site that you own, as long as that site is within the Google’s terms of service guidelines.

Once you are approved, you have to know which keywords to target – the ones that will make you the most amount of money per click, and how to write (or have written for you) content that makes those high paying ads appear on your site.

Finally, you have to learn how to drive traffic to your Adsense site. Without the traffic, you won’t get any clicks, and without clicks, you won’t be making any money. Getting real, targeted visitors that are eager to click on your ads is by far the hardest part of being an Adsense publisher. There really aren’t any secrets here – it is just a matter of learning to use some basic, proven site promotion techniques.

You may have heard gurus say that Google Adsense is dead? If you haven’t heard this, there will come a point when you will. But that really isn’t true. In fact, there are thousands of people just like you that are making very nice livings from the Google Adsense program.

Usually when a guru says that you should not use Google Adsense, they generally mean that you are better off not using it, especially when you are promoting your own product, and your website is tightly focused on that product.

However, you can use Google Adsense for a site that was built specifically for the Adsense program (Adsense Ready Sites), or on sites that you are using to promote affiliate products as well.

You should also note that many successful Adsense publishers have more than one website. They typically have numerous websites, on a variety of topics on which they display the Google ads. However, there are also those that simply have one high traffic website, from which they make money from the Adsense program.

Regardless of this, all Adsense publishers start with just one website, and grow from there, and this is what you should be doing as well. Page Impressions: The number of times an ad unit (a collection of 1 to 4 ads). If you have two ad units on a page, then every time the page loads you get two page impressions. Page Impressions DO include PSA (Public Service Ads) and Alternate Ads.

Clicks: The number of times someone clicks on an ad. Clicks on PSA will be included in this stat as well.

Earnings: Money you’ve made.

Derived Stats: (Figures calculated from the real stats)

Clickthrough Rate: Clicks/Page Impressions. It is expressed as a percentage.

Effective CPM: Earnings per thousand page impressions. Calculated by 1000 X Earnings / Page Impressions

EPC: Your EPC is not displayed because it does not really matter. EPC stands for Earnings Per Click (Earnings/Clicks) and is frequently talked about.

Attachment - Something connected to an email that gets sent along for the ride. People send photos, files, and even programs this way. Also called Enclosures.

Browser - The program you use to move around on the net. Different than your email program, though your browser may have an email program built in.

BookMarks or Favorites - A list in one of your browser menus that you can add website addresses to, usually by going to the page, then selecting Add BookMark, or Add to Favorites from the Bookmark or Favorites menu.

Compressed Files - Files that have been written in a format that takes up less space. Standard on a PC is Zip, standard on a Mac is Stuffit.

Connection - Refers to being online. Connection speeds vary according to the modem and type of connection.

Compatibility - Big word for cooperation. This refers to how well programs work with other programs, how hardware works with software, and how two computers share information. Internet formats follow specific guidelines to ensure cross platform compatibility.

Directory - A folder where you store files. This can be on your computer, or on a remote server.

Domain Name - A specific internet address, like www.apple.com. A personalized domain name must be registered yearly to make sure you have ownership of it.

DNS - Domain Name Server. Part of the information you need to set up an internet account. This is the number for the exact web address that your dial up account is managed through.

Drag and Drop HTML Editor - A web page creation program that allows you to assemble webpages and sites without using HTML code directly. The program creates the code for what you do behind the scenes.

Email - Text based electronic file transfer. Sends only text across an internet connection, address to address. Can convert programs, files, and graphics to text code and send them along for the ride. Cross platform compatibility is an issue with attachments.

Field - A rectangular box that you can type into, used in dialog boxes, database programs, and on internet forms. Common in Forms, JavaScript, and CGI Scripting.

File Extensions for the Internet - Common ones are .html, ,htm, for web pages, .gif, .jpg for graphics files, .txt, .exe, for text documents or PC programs, .sit, .zip, .sea, .dd for compressed files, .pdf for Adobe Acrobat files. Many more too.

File Types - Programs each label files with a code to identify which program created them. That is how they attach the right program to a file when you open it. Some files can be opened by programs other than their creators, but that ability has to be built into the program. Graphics get complex in this category. PCs do this by attaching a File Extension to the end of the name - .exe, .txt, and so forth. Macs do this by invisibly coding it with a 4 letter code.

Format - Changing the way a document presents the information in it. Changing margins, type sizes, columns, and all that. Formatting applies to both the appearance of a finished document, and the way the file is saved.

FTP - File Transfer Protocol. A means of transferring files over the internet, used for file downloads, and for file uploads.

Graphics, Images, Scans, Clipart - Graphic means visual - a Picture. Image means the same thing. Scans are pictures that have been converted to a digital format so you can store them on computers and play with them in your programs. Clipart is a collection of images that you buy, or get for free, that you can use in your own documents without paying each time you use them. Check copyright notices carefully on clipart, because restrictions vary.

HTML - HyperText Markup Language. A linking and displaying script language used to instruct computers to display a web page. The page is written in HTML, and your computer interprets the instructions, and displays the page as you see it.

ISP - Internet Service Provider - Like AOL, Earthlink, or PacBell. The people who you pay each month for the privilege of getting online!

Icons - Little pictures that represent programs and files. You find them almost everywhere that you can access files or programs. Also used on Websites to simplify navigation.

JavaScript - Scripting language that allows you to run Client Side interactive forms, graphics, and mini-applications from a web page.

Link - Text or graphics on a website that allow you to click on them to go to another page, or another place on the same page. Text is usually underlined. Hand pointer Icon appears on links.

Modem - A device that translates analog signals into digital, and digital into analog, so your computer can communicate with another over analog phone lines.

Networking - Connecting two computers, by special cable, or by phone lines, to share resources. Not the same as the internet.

Platform - The operating system you use - Windows, Mac, Unix, OS2, Apple II, DOS are all different platforms. Some are more compatible than others with each other. Unix, Windows, and Mac are the three primary web platforms.

Plug-Ins - Special mini-programs that are stored in a specific folder for the program that uses them. Plug-ins extend the functions of the program that they are added to. Internet and Graphics programs often use them to add features.

Properties, Options, Preferences - Settings that you can use to customize your programs or operating system to work like you want it to.

Remote Server - A computer that "serves" up information. It is not in your house, it is remote, or somewhere else.

Scanner - Converts photos and drawings into a digital map of the picture. Read up on them before you buy. Almost necessary for website design.

Search Engine - Website that keeps a listing of many websites, lets you type in a word or two and then gives you a list of the websites that it knows about that are about that subject. Websites must be registered with search engines if they are to be found by viewers.

Server - A computer that "serves" information out to other computers as they request it. When you connect to a web page, that page is stored on a server somewhere else.

Server Side Programming - Programs that run on a web page that are powered by software on a remote server.

Shopping Cart - A website that allows you to add items to purchase in a list, then enter order information all at once to purchase online.

SPAM - Unwanted email, junk mail, or prank mail. There is a lot of false mail out there about this person or that who is dying please send money, or that this or that thing is a HUGE RISK so protect yourself! Most is false, so don't forward it unless you can prove the validity of scare mail. Email is anonymous and leaves no evidence of the creator of it, so it is easy to perpetrate an email scam.

TCP/IP - Another Internet Protocol, also used for Networking. Works in conjunction with PPP. Mac may use MacTCP instead. Part of Mac software, Open Transport. Part of Dial Up Networking on a PC.

Time Out - When a website takes so long to download that your browser gets tired of waiting and just quits trying any more.

URL - Universal Resource Locator. This is the techie term for an internet address. With that you can easily goto or visit a web page

Virus - A hidden program that can be attached to email attachments, and other programs or disks by malicious people. A Virus once started can replicate itself, and may be either a harmless prank, or may damage files. Some viruses are difficult to eradicate. Risk is greater for PC than for Mac. Anti-Virus software protects against viruses on computers, but has to be updated frequently to keep up with new viruses. 90% of internet virus warnings are false. Check before you overreact or forward virus warnings.

Webpage - A single page on a website. Web pages are the foundation of a web site. It just like a book without pages here WebPages can represent a pages in a book

Website - A collection of Web pages that work together and are linked together with common ownership.

HELLO friend on these post I will be showing you how to easily send or rather upload your web pages or web page to the web, I mean making it visible on the internet, I know what you are thinking; after reading my post on INTRODUCTION TO WEB DESIGN What the point of all this if nobody else can see my site? Well let me show you how to upload your webpages to the internet. I am going to show you how to upload using the FREE Smart FTP web-publishing wizard. 1. The first thing that you need is host, when you sign up with a

host you will usually receive the following:

#A number of email accounts - Eg.

yourname@yourdomain.co.uk

#Webspace - This is like your own hard-drive but on the

internet (Usually in MB) were your web pages will be store(your html codezZZ)

#Bandwidth - This is the amount of traffic your site is able to

handle (Usually in GB)

Some hosts will also offer you incentives to sign up like free

software, guestbooks for your site, shopping carts etc.

2.You will also need to get yourself a domain name go to GO DADDY to get the domain name and get hosted there. At the time am writing these post I bought for a friend at the rate of $10 for a .com domain name for a period of 1yr

3. Now that you have a host ready, you need to transfer your

website from your PC, to the host.

This is done through a procedure called "FTP - File Transfer

Protocol” Now you have downloaded Smart FTP launch it and click on

“Connect to your host” fill in the data. After connecting to your host click on “Upload your files to the host” as simple has easy you have just uploaded you web pages online. Welcome chap waz good??? In these post I will be showing you how to add favicon on your blog first what is favicon: favicon is that small picture you usually see before your url on your adress bar found on your browser that is call favicon, usaully it is place there for identification. yahoo has Y on there’s, facebook has f on there’s these site has it own N, by default blogger put B on their blogs but you can change yours to any picture of your choice the picture you are going to uplaod should be less than or equal to 1kilobyte(1000bite) and it should have the exetenstion of .png mmhh these is where www.favicon.com comes into play goto www.favicon.com creat your picture with the exeteion .png just click on the browse tab at www.favicon.com to upload you picture then click on the upload tab to uplaod now you need to download the picture to your system. After downloading it check if it is less than 1kb. Ok now to upload it to your blog follow these step

1, goto desigh tab

2,page element tab

3,you will see favicon click on edit, a new window will appear all you need to do is to browse for the favicon were you saved it earlier, click on open now click on upload and hit save you are done now save you settings and preview. HOW TO CHANGE OR UPLOAD YOUR BLOGGER TEMPLETE

Welcome friend. on these post i will try to be simple and clear as usual, to easily add or change your blogger template follow these simple steps goto your blogger dashboard click on the design tab>>edit html tab>> you will see browse and upload button all you hava to do now is to click on the browse botton to pick up the already downloaded template form either B TEMPLATE or you can google it for more varieties, etc then locate the template on your system hard disk it has an extension of .xml, when located hit the enter button you will be returned to your blogger dashboard then click on the upload button the new template will be uploaded and saved automatically. note pls save your former template before uploading the new one to avoid anger, am talking from experience let me tell you a little story when I started blogging there was a day that I did not save me old template code so after uploading and saving the new template gush my blog was upside down so it good you save it.

According to Microsoft, spyware best describes software that is use to collect personal information, change the configuration of computers, advertising and anything else that can be done. The catch is that spyware is downloaded without your permission.

Usually, you won’t know it’s even there when it enters

your system that is where the prob. begins.

The difference between spyware and adware is just little.

In the case of adware the software is geared towards displaying

Advertisements or rather spamy messages. With spyware, the potential could be leaked personal information to another source. In other words, someone is spying on you.

SOME DISADVANTAGES OF SPYWARE AND ADWARES

1. Changing Configurations

Your personal configuration is usually tempered with ie disorganize, which may slow your pc log on speed, sometimes they change your browsers home page to their own, indirectly advising that site to you. They are sometimes difficult to identify there by making it to become a big deal for you.

2.Slowing Your Computer Down

Another problem with spyware and adware is that it can

drastically slow your computer down. First and

foremost, it can hurt you by being annoying. Pop up

adverts may happen. But, slowly your computer will begin

to move slower. If you don’t notice it at first, the more

spyware that gets into the system, the harder it will be

for you to do the things you want to do.

This happens because your computer is being asked to

do more and more. Not only does it need to perform

the tasks that you want it to do, but it also needs to

perform the tasks that the spyware is requesting. Running

online tracking, popping up ads, monitoring your usage;

all of these things can be quite demanding on your

system.

Relaying Information

Some types of adwares and spyware can be devastating, Just as adware can track what you are doing online to help target the right ads to you, spyware can do the same.

The source of these adware has the ability to capture the image of web site you are viewing ie getting infor about what and what you are inputing ie getting your data in other to know what type of advert it will display for you or spamy messages, With these they have your data on their database like your date of birth, address, and credit card details etc so you see it a dangerous stuff. Spyware and adware can be called identity thieves, because they steal your status (aka identity).

Shareware

Shareware is another way this stuff get to you. It often comes bundled with a downloaded software. When you purchase and install the software you want, you also download the spyware.

Some companies do pay these adware and spyware designer to make it for them so they attaché it to their software in other to advertise their product secretly, instead of paying for google ad words to do the work legally they go for adware and spywares lol though some times the software producers don’t know about the presence of the adware and spyware

Through A Virus?

Note pls virus is not adware or spyware but they have the same aim ie annoying and damaging your pc. Via virus these adware or spyware Can easily get to you.

HOW TO MAKE YOUR MODEM TO BE USED UNIVERSALLY WITH ANY SIM

Welcome to my site friend. I will try to be simple and straight to the point on this post. To unlock, break etc simply means making a data modem friendly to all ISP i.e MTN, GLO, ETISALAT, M-TEL etc Sims to work on the modem. First you have to download this software called “dc-unlock 2 clients” you can get it on their official site which am going to drop now you just click on the link and you are good to go http://www.dc-unlocker.com .Below are the step by step procedure for unlocking your modem after getting the software installed

1. Open the software

2. Make sure the software detect you modem to know if it detected you will see card found below

3. Get your modem IME code from the park or body. Note if u don’t have it that way then right click inside the display area and click on open IME No. it will display you modem IME no every modem has it different no usual 15 digit code

4. After that click on unlocking button on the software and click Unlock a window will prompt you asking you of the IME no of your modem then type it in carefully and click on unlock after a process it will display your modem unlock code. Now when you insert another sim on the modem it will display an error asking you to insert your unlocking code woo congratulation you have successfully unlocked you modem that means you can use any sim card on that modem without buying many different modems

Web site are set of archives and folders related to each other, also with common objectives. Archives these are folders with subfolders on a web site. WebPageS these is a file carrying information about a data or organization example of platform use in doing web design ie IDM are joomla, dreamwaver etc or the manual way of doing or creating a website is by having a wider knowledge of HTML, or xml code etc. which am going to start showing you some simple steps or rather the basis!
Tag: it a command that specific the region of an html document for the web browser to interpret examples <tag>
Comment: these is use to write short note on a particular code in other for you to remember at a letter time ie documenting it. Unlike java which is like these // here in html we use /* these is my comment */ note: when ever you do these the compiler will not execute that code “these is my comment”. Comments simply mean handy way of putting notes in the code to remind us what the code is intended to do, or to help anyone else reading the code see what’s going on.

Element: these is a complete tag having both opening & closing tag<> </> respectively
Attribute: these is a command that is been define within a tag which is responsible for modifying or changing the value of the tag.
To start, create a folder were you will be saving your work then open notepad, text pad, eclipse etc or any text editor and save it into the folder created with the extension .html eg let assume you saved you work with the file name hello then saving it will be hello.html good now the main code ie the executable code

HTTP Request and Response Fundamentals

In order to understand exactly how the internet works, it is important to
know how a web site processes a request and receives a response from a web server. The
current standard that browsers use to acquire information from a web server is the HTTP
(HyperText Transfer Protocol) method (currently at version HTTP/1.1). This is the means a web browser uses to send out a request from a web site and then receive a response from the web server that is currently in charge of returning the response.
That is to say that when a request is sent, certain request are passed along that allow the web server to know exactly what it is to be serving and how to handle the request.
Once a request has been received, the server then decides what response to return.
There are many different response codes. The table below show some common response code that we usually encounter has we surf through the net.
Code Description
200 OK:- This response code is returned if the document or file in question is
found and served correctly.
304 Not Modified:- This response code is returned if a browser has indicated that it has a local, cached copy, and the server’s copy has not changed from this cached copy.
401 Unauthorized:- This response code is generated if the request in question requires
authorization to access the requested document.
403 Forbidden:- This response code is returned if the requested document does not
have proper permissions to be accessed by the requestor.
404 Not Found:- This response code is sent back if the file that is attempting to be
accessed could not be found (i.e., if the web page does not exist). And these is the most common one that we do experience
500 Internal Server Error:- This code will be returned if the server that is being contacted has a problem.
503 Service Unavailable This response code is generated if the server is too overwhelmed to handle the request.
