Another Veena Malik News. Few days back we revealed that Veena Malik will be hosting a world cup show on an Indian Tv Channel. This is confirmed now. Veena Malik will be hosting the cricket show on the Channel India TV. In addition to it, She will also participate in a programme titled “Bigg Toss” Some 14 contestants will all live in a villa, the contestants will be divided into two teams and choose the players of their choice. Based on the performance of their chosen players, the teams will be given marks — the team whose players perform well, will win the show.

A source disclosed that Veena Malik has been given Rs10 million for hosting the show. Talking about her show she said, “This show will be a mixture of cricket and entertainment. I will also discuss famous love affairs of various cricketers,” said Veena Malik.

The participants of the show include Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh’s father Yograj Singh Bundhel, Rakhi Sawant, radio Jockey Simran, Indian Punjabi pop singer Ashok Masti, model and TV anchor Divya Jaitley, former Delhi University student and union leader Amrita Dhawan, singer and guitarist Shanker Sawhney, Zoobi Doobi singer Zahid Nigam, Congress leader Mukesh Sharma, Haryana wrestler Sangram Singh,hairstylist Swlvie and MTV contestants Sakshi Bhayala and Shiva Devotee.

“The participants will also discuss their favourite players but according to the show’s format the participants can only choose Indian cricketers,” said Malik explaining the dynamics of the show.

So Veena will be promoting and supporting Indian Team in this World Cup Cricket Fever . Has she just fallen into another controversy?

This indeed is the news of the Day. Geo Tv and all its talk shows are famous for mis treating politicians and leaders, specially Mr. Musharraf. Since General Musharraf gave really hard time to the biggest television network in Pakistan, Geo Tv do not miss any chance to abuse Mr. Musharraf. It is respectfully submitted on behalf of the Complainant above named as under:-

1). That, the complainant is a media personality, businesswoman, social activist and political reformer. She has been a household name in Pakistan since 1991, is a media personality. She is currently CEO of two companies under the Odho banner: Odho Productions & Odho Cosmetics. Furthermore, recently, the Complainant has joined a political party by the name of All Pakistan Muslim League as Communication Adviser.

2). That, the complainant has an established name and prestige within and outside the Pakistani community as a respectable woman who has been and continues to work for the betterment of her home country and its people. A summary of her countless contributions defining her idiosyncratic personality to date are as follows:-

(a) In the year 2008, she launched her own people’s movement, “Our Country Our People-OCOP” which has worked for the Swat cause, 2010 flood relief efforts and has in February 2010 launched the Jacobabad revival project.

(b) Ms. Odho’s production house, Odho Productions has been producing television programming / software for all Urdu speaking mainstream terrestrial / satellite television networks airing within and outside of Pakistan. The products developed and aired by Odho Productions are focused on strong social messages with the consideration to reform media towards becoming the true social conscience of Pakistani society as it is meant to be.

(c) Besides her media work, Ms. Odho has travelled extensively all over Pakistan to promote the values of financial and emotional empowerment of women through many public gatherings by socially networking career women with younger ladies wanting to come into the work force.

(d) In the year 2006, Complainant started to support the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital (SKMCH) in its fundraising efforts and became its breast cancer awareness program’s (wings of hope) Brand Ambassador a year later. The SKMCH breast cancer awareness campaign is active each year in October (International breast cancer awareness month). The complainant contribute her services for awareness and fundraising activities for the cause each year full priority in the hope of saving as many lives as possible by educating people about the disease as Pakistan has the highest incident of breast cancer in Asia.

(e) Besides SKMCH, Complainant has supported the Fatimid Foundation, national Polio awareness program, Green Star family planning project and is now endorsing Pfizer in its fight against pneumonia in children (the forgotten killer).

(f) The Complainant has been the brand ambassador for many multinationals by endorsing their products through advertising as well as hosting their television and live shows for the last two decades. Some of the company names are, Uni-levers, Nestle Pakistan, Telenor, Suzuki Pakistan, PTCL, Pfizer, Citibank.

(g) In 2009, she was asked to and wrote the media and broadcast paper for the Planning Commission of Pakistan, 10th- 5 year plan.

(h) The Complainant is invited to many international business and media related forums (Saarc economic forum / Ficci Frames, WISE) as a guest speaker from Pakistan to share her years of experience as an entrepreneur and media icon. She attends such forums with great pride as she represents her country as its ambassador.

3). That, the complainant after her countless social contributions, became a political activist and quote “For years I worked in the social sector not realizing that I was dealing with the symptom of bad governance in Pakistan. Today, I step into the world of politics hoping to prevent the ills that our society suffers from through empowering the political arena to do what it must, serve the people-Atiqa Odho.” Thus the quote clearly shows the candid intentions and high moral values of the complainant mentioned herein.

4). That, the accused persons herein are part of a TV show named ‘Khabarnak’ that is aired on Geo newschannel every Saturday and Sunday at 11:05pm and repeated at 04:05am and 2:05pm. On 23/01/2011, the show ‘Khabarnak’ was aired as scheduled on 11:05pm. In this so called veritable “gossip column of talk shows”, at 11:23pm, the accused persons, despite being aware of the complainant’s contributions to this country and her maintained goodwill, crossed the limits by making a personal attack on the complainant’s esteemed and reputed personality. The conversation between the anchor and the dummy Pervez Musharaff was going as a comic until it got derogatory and an aspersion was made on the complainant’s integrity as a political activist. The comments followed by an actor present at the show were purely personal attacks. For the convenience of this Honb’le Court, its Urdu version is reproduced hereunder:-

5). That, the life of Complainants family has been disturbed and their privacy invaded by the comic T.V show aired by the Accused persons representing the Complainant as a downgraded woman having an unchaste personality. Furthermore, the Accused persons portrayed the Complainant’s political life as ‘Personal Property’ of the party head. Due to this, the Complainant have been going through immense mental tension and pressure as she is unable to reconcile the bad image depicted by the Accused persons and is thus unable to face her family, friends, international forums and the society at large with dignity/integrity which is a major trait of the Complainant’s personality.

6). That, the freedom of expressions adopted by accused persons has crossed the limits of decency and morality. The accused person violated the rights of a woman recognized by law and principles of Islam. Furthermore, the words used in the TV Show have offended the dignity of person /man which is a fundamental right of every citizen of the Country. Right to good reputation is supreme in Islam.

7). That, the State has failed to discharge its constitutional responsibility to protect the complainant in particular and women at large from the naked invasion on their rights perpetuated by accused persons.

8). That, it is submitted on behalf of the complainant that the accused persons have committed criminaldefamation as stated under Section 499 of the Pakistan Penal Code. Not only was defamation committed but was also broadcasted to millions of viewers around the globe. The complainant also submits that the accused persons have insulted her modesty as a woman by uttering words that intruded upon her privacy and damaged her reputation and integrity at local and international level which is also an offence punishable under Section 509 P.P.C.

Dabangg director chooses Sallu over SRK

After the success of Dabangg, everyone wants a piece of Abhinav Kashyap but the Dabangg director is a loyal man! Even though Bollywood baadshah Shah Rukh Khan is eager to work with him, Kashyap has decided to stick with Salman Khan and refused SRK.

Meanwhile, Kashyap even went for a meeting with SRK where the actor reportedly told the director that he would act and produce the film.

Later, what transpired between Salman and Kashyap is unknown but the Dabanggdirector chose Sallu over SRK. Speculations suggest that Kashyap decided to remain loyal with Salman, who gave Kashyap his first blockbuster hit.

A source told Mumbai Mirror, "The shooting of Dabangg 2 starts in December 2011. As for SRK's film, he has still not been able to lock the script. The SRK project is still far away."

Pakistani artiste Veena Malik, who became a household name in India following her stint on reality TV show Bigg Boss, will now appear in two more shows on the Indian television.

"I have been a diehard cricket fan and follow the game religiously. I have been offered several projects but this is cricket season. I am taking my passion for the game into account, which is why I have decided to do the show. I hope that my knowledge about the game and its players will attract my fans both in India and Pakistan," The Express Tribune quoted Veena Malik, who is currently in India on a three-month visa, as saying.

In her first 'crick-o-tainment' show that will hit the small screen on February 19, Malik will serve as the host with two panellists- Ketan Sharma and former Indian cricketer and national coach Anshuman Gaekwad.

While Sharma and Gaekwad will highlight the technicalities of the game, Veena Malik, who has reportedly been paid 10 million rupees for this show, will bring spice and interest to the more colourful aspects of the players.

"This show will be a mixture of cricket and entertainment. I will also discuss famous love affairs of various cricketers," said Malik.

When asked which team she would support for the World Cup 2011 campaign, Malik replied: "Of course I will support the Pakistani team in its matches. But I also have sympathies for the Indian team."

Most Pakistanis and Pakistan’s artistic community has reacted very strongly to the “Indian authorities’ highhandedness” and harassment of one of the greatest singers of South Asia– Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. Most feel that this was typical of the Bharati attitude towards Pakistanis. Most, like Federal Minister Babr Awan say that “Fateh Ali Khan got what he deserved”.

Rhat Fateh ALi Khan like Adnan Sami Khan was to wild eyed about Bharatand Bharatis. Money had blinded him. Many Pakistanis say that hopefully he has learned his lesson. Adnan Sami Khan surely did.

Pakistan’s federal law minister Babar Awan told the media in Islamabad, when artists like Rahat Fateh Ali Khan go to India to mint money, instead of exploring their talent in Pakistan, they should get ready to lose their respect and honour.

According to stage artist Suhail Ahmed, Pakistani artists had been subjected to humiliation and indecent behaviour in India on many occasions.

There is a feeling among the masses in Pakistan and the film industry that the rigorous questioning of Fateh and the subsequent confiscation of his passport by the Bharati authorities was an attempt to trap him and take away his money.

He entered Bollywood with the small budget, quirky " Tere Bin Laden", but Pakistani singer-actor Ali Zafar will be seen next with Katrina Kaif and Imran Khan in a typical romantic comedy. He will also focus on his first love - music.

"The film is a romantic comedy, a very family kind of set-up. Imran and me play brothers. I'm a very charming and flamboyant guy in the film who is very confused about what he wants from life," Ali Zafar told in an interview.

And he is all praise for co-star Katrina Kaif, one of the reigning divas in Bollywood.

"It was a very good experience working with Katrina. She is a very hardworking person and was extremely cooperative and fun on the sets," he said.

" Mere Brother Ki Dulhan" is a Yash Raj Films' production and is being directed by debutant Ali Abbas Zafar. "Tere Bin Laden" was also director Abhishek Sharma's first film. So why is Ali Zafar signing up with newcomers?

"One hardly comes across good scripts. I have heard about 50 scripts since 'Tere Bin Laden'. Then finally I liked 'Mere Brother...'. Recently I have signed another film but I can't talk about that. The makers will make an announcement soon," he revealed.

Ali, who has worked as a model for several commercials in Pakistan, has also acted in Pakistani TV serials "Lunda-Bazar", "Kanch Ke Par" and teenage sitcom "Kollege Jeans".

Films apart, Ali is also focussing on music, his first love. The musician's new album "Jhoom" was recently released by Yash Raj Music in India and worldwide and by Ali's own label Alif Records in Pakistan.

"This time I have tried to make timeless music rather than something that is interesting only for a week or so. I made what my heart liked and not what I felt would be popular in the market," said Ali, who has earlier released two albums titled "Huqa Pani" and "Masty".

"As far as inspirations are concerned, I was just thinking that the music that is created today, the soul is missing, secondly it doesn't touch a chord and thirdly it has no shelf life. So I wanted the music that I compose has all of the above."

"Initially I was driven by the commercial aspect of music; now it's driven more by the spiritual aspect," he added.

"Jhoom", which has 12 tracks, took the musician three years to complete.

Even though the market for non-film albums is not booming at the moment, Ali is unfazed by the trend and says he will keep trying and hope for greener pastures.

"I'm a singer, my job is to keep creating music, I can't get bogged down by the market scenario or commerce of it. I could have been if I was looking for money, but I'm not looking for money from this album.

"I'm looking to earning respect from this album. Nowadays I know releasing a non-film album is not very favourable, I wish it was. Music channels are not playing the songs, but I think it's our responsibility as artists that we don't stop doing something we believe in. I feel if you are sincere towards your music it just finds it's way into people's hearts," said Ali.

Veena Malik, the so called whistle-blower in the spot-fixing scandal, has said that Mohammad Asif should be put behind the bars. Speaking to DNA, moments after the verdict on the Pakistan’s tainted trio was announced, Veena said her former boyfriend was perennially involved in wrongdoing and should be handed exemplary punishment.

“I would not want to pass judgment about other two players, but I can say with authority that Asif should not be spared. I knew from the beginning that he was involved in corrupt practices. Remember, he tested positive for dope during IPL and he managed to escape with a light punishment. So, I think he should be given exemplary punishment because he has this knack of escaping with light sentences. He had this false confidence that he can escape with all his atrocities. He underestimated the enormity and seriousness of his deeds. Rather misdeeds,” she said.

When pointed out that he faces the danger of being extradited and jailed in Britain, the Pakistan actress said the law should take its own course.

“My only regret is that I begged him to refrain from this kind of activity so that he would not ruin his career. Not only I, but many people tried but he did not pay heed to the advices. So if he is proved to be a criminal, he should rightly be punished — even if he were to be jailed.”

She also felt that the Scotland Yard would properly investigate the case. “See, emotionally, I always wished him well. But this is a much bigger issue. My emotions are also attached to cricket. So, I cannot see the image of the game I love being tarnished. So, tomorrow if Scotland (Yard) prove him guilty, he should face the imprisonment. I’m sure the Scotland Yard would not be prejudiced against him. They investigate properly and they won’t be unfair. He should be handed an exemplary punishment, so that it becomes a deterrent in future.”

Veena, who created a stir with her appearance in Bigg Boss in India, said she is ready to face the consequences for speaking out the truth.

“I had shared a lot of information and evidence with the ICC authorities. If my whistle-blowing can lead to my personal insecurity, I would not mind. Bravery is in my blood. I was prepared to face any eventuality. I had got death threats but I did not care. I knew, what I did was right. If you have to pay for standing up for the truth so be it. I get a lot of positive energy when I do such things. I have learnt to stand by the truth.

“You may see my statements through the whole scandal and they were never inconsistent. God has given me that much power and confidence to stand up to the adversity and threats. If I were to die for speaking the truth, so be it. I’m prepared for it. I’m happy.”

Veena also said she always knew that the right-arm Pakistani pacer was neck-deep involved in corruption and this ICC verdict would act as a deterrent. “It is very sad moment for any cricket-lover like me. I follow cricket and I follow it very religiously. A lot of my emotions are involved with the game. As a cricket-lover I say there should be zero tolerance for corruption in cricket be it in Pakistan or anywhere in the world.

“The corrupt must be exposed and punished, thus forcing any cricketer to think 1,000 times before committing such things. I knew that Asif was neck-deep in corruption and I always tried to expose it. Not many people were willing to take me seriously. But I was damn serious. I’m shattered that they are spoiling the reputation of the gentleman’s game. So this verdict would be an example for future.”

Patiala House opening weekend collections lowest ever for Akshay

MUMBAI: The box office collections of Akshay Kumar's films have seen a steady decline. The actor's latest film -Patiala House, which is directed by Nikhil Advani and has Anushka Sharma as his co-star, failed to create magic at the box office.

With net collections of approximately Rs 151.5 million (Rs 15.15 crore), this is the lowest opening weekend collections for an Akshay Kumar movie.

Akshay's recent release Action Replayy, which was also a dud at the box office, saw a better opening weekend than Patiala House with net collections of Rs 167.50 million (Rs 16.75 crore).

The weekend break-up of Patiala House is as follows: Friday - Rs 40.5 million (Rs 4.05 crore), Saturday - Rs 50.5 million (Rs 5.05 crore) and Sunday - Rs 60.5 million (Rs 6.05 crore).

Patiala House's first weekend collections are low even when compared to some of the other recently released films like Raavan, Anjaana Anjaani, Peepli [Live] and I Hate Luv Storys. Barring Tees Maar Khan, which did net collections of Rs 375 million (Rs 37.50 crore) in its opening weekend, most of Akshay's films have failed to find flavour with the audience.

It remains to be seen how the film fares over the week.

On the other hand, Sudhir Mishra's Yeh Saali Zindagi's total net collections after 10 days stand at Rs 88 million (Rs 8.80 crore), whereas Madhur Bhandarkar's romantic comedy Dil Toh Bachcha Hai Ji's net collections in the first week were Rs 207.5 million and that of the second week were Rs 50 million (Rs 5 crore), taking the total box office net collections to Rs 257.5 million (Rs 25.75 crore).

Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor had created quite a flutter yesterday during the fourth day of the Aero India 2011 military-cum-civil aviation trade show at Bangalore by flying an F-16 IN Super Viper.
It certainly was an ecstatic moment for Shahid, as he was having a firsthand experience of riding a fighter aircraft. He’s the only actor who has ever got the opportunity to fly a combat aircraft.
Speaking about his exhilarating ride, Shahid stated, “This is a privilege, a prestigious opportunity that civilians will not get, which does not come to all. I thank IAF and also Lockheed Martin for giving me this opportunity. I think I am the first Indian actor to fly an F-16.”

In his usual charismatic style the actor stated, "Dad is directing a movie (Mausam) in which I am playing the role of an air force officer. I am trying to gain as much experience as I can for it. The producer and dad were keen that I get first-hand experience.”
"It was unbelievable. The experience could not be defined, it needs to be felt. We were on a mission. We went upto 10,000 feet and then the pilot let me hold the stick. We did dog fights and took a 360 degree turn. We went upto 6G, where we feel six times our body weight,” further added the actor about his exhilarating ride in the air.
Shahid had a 45 minute experience in the aircraft
Shahid who had undergone thorough training over the last one month had cleared all pre-flight medical tests and simulator training for this show.
“The tests included flying at a very high velocity and making sure I would not suffer from motion sickness,” said the actor.
Other than the training for the show, it’s learnt that the actor has been going through training for almost a year, both for his movie and for flying.

Rahat Fateh Ali Khan arrested at Delhi airport

Mumbai: Acclaimed Pakistani sufi singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has been arrested at Delhi airport on Sunday for possessing undeclared currency – one lakh dollars.

Khan, who is a hit Bollywood playback singer, arrived here on a flight from Karachi and was intercepted by personnel from Directorate of Revenue Intelligence acting on some prior information, official sources said.

The 37-year-old, nephew of Pakistani singing legend Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, was earlier too involved in a controversy when organisers of a concert in Gurgaon filed a police complaint against him in July last year for his failure to turn up for a show.

Khan has several hit numbers to his credit and had won the Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer this year for 'Dil To Bachcha Hai Ji' from the movie 'Ishqiya'.

"They didn't know, but they are kind of realising now when they visited the sets of 'Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa' and saw everybody praising me and talking about me. They ask like, 'Oh, so you are a big star in India'," Madhuri told IANS in an interview. Madhuri lives in Denver, Colorado, with her husband Sriram Nene and two sons - Arin, 7, and Raayan, 5, and is in India as the judge of the fourth season of the show. Madhuri became a national craze in the 1980s and the 90s with her scintillating performances in superhits like "Tezaab", "Ram Lakhan", "Tridev", "Dil", "Saajan", "Khalnayak", "Hum Aapke Hain Koun", "Dil To Pagal Hai" and "Devdas". The actress took a sabbatical after 2002 and made a come back with "Aaja Nachle" in 2007, but the film bombed at the box office. The failure, however, didn't affect the star aura surrounding her. Banned scholar Zakir Naik to address Oxford Union by satellite

An Indian Muslim scholar who is banned from entering Britain is to address the Oxford Union via satellite link, in a direct challenge to the home secretary, Theresa May.

Zakir Naik, who was placed under an exclusion order last summer, has been invited by the debating society to take part in a discussion in two weeks' time on the theme of religious tolerance.

The invitation has angered May and could provide an awkward dilemma for the Conservative party. The former shadow home secretary Chris Grayling promised to ban the use of satellite technology to broadcast the views of excluded Islamist preachers based abroad.

Naik, who founded the global satellite channel Peace TV, was the first Muslim preacher to be banned by the coalition government when he was stopped from entering the country in June.

The Mumbai-based television evangelist was invited weeks ago to take part in the debate with academics and students. Thames Valley police have been advising the union on how to conduct the meeting.

Naik told the Guardian he was delighted by the invitation. "This gives me the perfect opportunity to show the British people my true views rather than the distorted and false grounds cited by the home secretary," he said.

He has argued that he is a moderate and is currently involved in an appeal court action to have the order lifted.

Peace TV has a huge following in the Muslim districts of Mumbai, Naik's native city. Naik has been named as the third most popular spiritual guru in India.

In a letter highlighting the reasons for his exclusion, May quoted Naik's assertion that "all Muslims should be terrorists" as one example of his unreasonable behaviour. He claims the statement was taken out of context and that he was referring about the right to "terrorise" thieves.

Another passage quoted by the home secretary is said to come from a 2006 lecture, in which Naik said of Osama bin Laden: "If he is fighting the enemies of Islam, I am for him." Naik claims the lecture was given in 1998, before the September 11 attacks.

Naik, who has also been accused of holding antisemitic and sexist views, claims to be "non-violent and an enemy of extremism".

His ban provoked a row in Whitehall over whether it was right to exclude Islamic preachers who pledged to help the government halt the spread of violent ideologies. In October, court papers revealed that Charles Farr, director general of the office for security and counter-terrorism, backed Naik's fight to stay in Britain. One of Farr's senior officials, Sabin Khan, was suspended from duty for criticising the exclusion as a "huge error of judgment".

The Oxford Union is regarded as one of the most prestigious debating chambers in the world and was once described by Harold Macmillan as "the last bastion of free speech in the western world". Founded in 1823, it has played host to the likes of US presidents Reagan, Nixon and Carter, the Dalai Lama, Mother Teresa and the Queen.

A spokesman for the union said Naik should be allowed to speak because of his influence in the debate on Islamic fundamentalism.

"The Oxford Union exists to discuss and debate ideas, even those considered unorthodox or controversial by society at large. Members of the union will be given the opportunity to challenge Dr Naik on any aspect of his views.

"Dr Naik will be speaking via video link, rather than appearing in person. We have no desire to challenge Dr Naik's ban on entry to the UK. However, we do wish to give our members the chance to discuss and challenge his views on terrorism and the Home Office's recent decision to ban him," he said.

In opposition, David Cameron was highly critical of Labour's failure to ban hardline preachers. After a number of news stories highlighted the way banned preachers were circumventing the law, he and the opposition pledged to stop it.

In a speech delivered to a US audience in December 2009, Chris Grayling, the then shadow home secretary, promised to stop banned preachers from circumventing exclusion orders by broadcasting their words by satellite link or video.

"We have seen numerous examples of banned preachers propagating their views to British audiences by video or audio link from the countries where they now live. If we are in government, we will take further steps to outlaw such activity – and to prosecute those who organise the propagation of banned ideologies via video and satellite links in public places," he said in a speech, which is still on the party's website.

The Conservative MP Patrick Mercer, former chairman of the Commons counter-terrorism committee, called for the government to halt the broadcast. "The coalition government should pursue this with vigour. Naik is a subversive pest and his words not be allowed to reach the vulnerable and the impressionable," he said.

The Home Office said: "The government makes no apologies for refusing people access to the UK if we believe they represent a threat to our society. Coming here is a privilege that we refuse to extend to those who seek to subvert our shared values."

Sanjay Dutt to come out with an autobiography

Mumbai: Bollywood’s wild child Sanjay Dutt, who recently turned over a new leaf in life, is all set to pen down his autobiography.

Happily married to Manyata and blessed with twins, Sanjay Dutt is looking forward to a second coming in Bollywood. Indeed, Sanju baba has entered the most interesting phase of his life and career.

Buzz has it that Sanjay Dutt is looking for a ghost writer to pen his memoir, which will be a racy read considering his eventful life.

Apparently, Sanjay, who is currently shooting in Bangkok for David Dhawan’s ‘Rascals’ was approached by a biographer. Though the talks fell through, Sanjay is still nursing the desire to tell his tale as soon as he finds a good writer.

Talking to a daily, Sanjay said, “Yes, there was an offer but the terms and conditions didn’t suit me. I do want to write my autobiography. But I need to devote time to it and I’m having a busy phase in my career. I will definitely go ahead with it when I find someone to help me write it. I’m sure it will happen soon.”

The memoir will deal with Sanjay’s demons, right from his drug problems, films, romances, weddings, divorces, friends and rivals. It will also deal with the 1993 Mumbai blasts and his jail term.

Speaking on his hectic schedule and the need for a ghost writer, Sanjay said, “At an outdoor shoot such as this, I have enough time to talk to someone who asks me questions about my life. That would be nice. There are so many things…it would be impossible for me to remember everything in one shot.”

CDs are "Faltu" in Bollywood now?

Like any other Bollywood producer, Vashu Bhagnani held a music launch event this week for his upcoming film. But there was one thing missing -- the music CD.

Instead, Bhagnani "released" the music of his film "Faltu" digitally, allowing users to download individual tracks from the film's website.

"I didn't see the point of releasing CDs because no one buys them these days," says Bhagnani. "It's cheaper to pay 10 rupees per song rather than buying an entire CD for 150 rupees," he said.

While this may be the first time in Bollywood that a film's music is available only digitally, Bhagnani has only done what most producers had been mulling for a long time. India's mobile market is huge with around 730 million subscribers, roughly equivalent to Europe's population.

With the number of subscribers growing at some 17-18 million a month, more and more users can easily access their favourite music through mobile downloads.

A KPMG report last year estimated that physical formats accounted for 57 percent of industry revenues in 2009, down ten percent from the previous year.

The report also estimated that revenues from physical formats would decline at 6.8 percent from 2009 to 2014.

"These days producers release a token 5,000 CDs at the release of a film, because CD sales are at an all-time low," says Aparna Joshi, editor of music magazine Sound Box.

Even the makers of films like "Rock On", which featured several chartbusters, focused more on digital downloads than CDs.

"Producers are now concentrating more and more on digitising their music, to attract more revenues," says Joshi, adding that CD sales are just a formality.

The Indian digital music market is estimated to have been worth 2.6 billion rupees in 2009 and expected to grow exponentially with the advent of 3G technology.

Bollywood is the largest contributor to industry revenues, accounting for around 65 percent. Still, it may still take time for movie producers to follow in Bhagnani's footsteps, with most still wary of a digitally-only release.

"They have to wake up to reality and understand that the consumer wants something different," says Bhagnani.

Stay away from drugs: Dharmendra

Yesteryears' star Dharmendra Tuesday advised young Punjabis to stay away from drugs and to concentrate on sports that require physical stamina and energy.

"Many Punjabi youths are falling prey to drugs. This is one of the major reasons why Punjabis are not performing at par with their Haryana counterparts in international tournaments," Dharmendra told reporters here Tuesday.

"I appeal to Punjab youths to stay away from drugs and divert their minds by indulging in tough games that require a lot of energy. I have come to Punjab to inaugurate an international-level wrestling tournament and I am very happy to become part of this initiative," he added.

Dharmendra, who was known as 'Garam-Dharam' in Bollywood, will inaugurate a Feb 10-12 wrestling event Shaheed Bahagat Singh International Wrestling Tournament, at Jalandhar.

According to the organisers, as many as 300 wrestlers from 20 countries are participating in the cash-rich tournament in which Rs.30 lakh would be distributed among the top three players.

Dharmendra had spent his early life in Punjab's Sahnewal village which has now become a town near Punjab's industrial city Ludhiana. His father was a school headmaster.

Dharmendra also had some advice for the Indian cricket team for the forthcoming World Cup.

"I wish them best of luck. I want India to repeat the 1983 feat of Kapil Dev-led team. They should play with full aggression and then sky would be the limit for them," he said.

Sunny Deol to play a pandit in Mohalla Assi

Filmmaker Chandraprakash Dwivedi's new offering Mohalla Assi will see Bollywood actor Sunny Deol in a new avatar, essaying the role of a dhoti-clad orthodox religious priest.

"The movie is based on Dr Kashinath Singh's novel Kashi Ka Assi. Assi is a ghat in Banaras and the film is based in a famous and historical 'Mohalla' (locality) on the southern end of Banaras and the River bank of Ganga," Dwivedi who dons the directorial hat seven years after Urmila Matondkar-Manoj Bajpai starrer Pinjar said.

Starring Sunny Deol, Ravi Kishen and Sakshi Tanwar, the film, set in the post-independence period, is slated to release in August 2011.

The director said Sunny Deol plays the lead role in the movie and takes on a very fresh and different character, of an orthodox religious priest (Pundit).

"Sunny is determined to do justice to every aspect of his role, including his look. He will be donning the full garb of a pundit, all the way from the typical 'dhoti', 'kurta', 'gamcha', 'kolhapuri chappals'...right down to the 'choti' on his head," Dwivedi said.

Speaking about his new look, Sunny said, "the script of 'Mohalla Assi' is very different and interesting, especially the character I play is very unique- its not quite like anything I have played yet. You will see me in an entirely new avatar. It's true that I will be playing a pundit; therefore, I will be dressed in clothes that are typical for a pundit, with a 'choti' to complete the look."

Dwivedi said the movie is a satire and Sunny just seemed like someone that could do justice to the character, as he has proven to play serious roles equally as good as he plays comic roles.

I want to make my absence felt: Anupam

Having done 400 films in a span of nearly 30 years, veteran actor Anupam Kher is staying away from the big screen. He says it is sometimes important to stay away from the cameras and lights to make one's presence felt.

"People ask me these days why I am not so prominently visible on screen. But I feel in life, a time comes when you don't feel like running after work. After doing 400 films, I feel contented. Sometimes it becomes important to make your presence felt with your absence; that is what I am doing now," Anupam told IANS in an interview.

The Padma Shri awardee arrived in Bollywood with his powerful performance in "Saaransh". From villain to funny guy to character roles, he has a variety of performances under his belt in his nearly three-decade-long career.

If he scared people as a ruthless villain in "Karma" (1986) and "Hum", he made them emotional with "Daddy" (1989), "Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara" and " Khosla Ka Ghosla" (2007). He even entertained fans by playing lighthearted characters in " Lamhe" (1991), "Shola Aur Shabnam" (1992), "Darr" (1993) and "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge" (1995).

But nowadays the 55-year-old is not doing too many films. "Experience teaches a lot. After a long journey one becomes selective by default. In the urge to try and do different roles, one becomes an expert at sorting between the good and the okay roles."w

But what keeps him busy?

"I keep myself busy with a lot of projects - films, family, my acting school and programmes like 'Lead India' and now 'Discover India with Anupam Kher'. It is important to lay the foundation and understand that at this age what is it that you want to do and achieve," said the actor.

Right now it's television that excites him more as it allows him to be himself. After hosting shows like "Say Na Something To Anupam Uncle", "Sawaal Dus Crore Ka" and "Lead India", he will return to the small screen as the host of quiz show "Discover India", which will go on air Sunday on Star Plus.

"On shows I get to be myself. I get the opportunity to showcase my real self. In movies we play characters and people identify us with them. But on shows on small screen I have the liberty to show the real me," he said.

Though he is looking forward to his quiz show on television, the actor rues there is a dearth of educational shows on the small screen.

"I agree that quiz shows are not there on television now. What we see is only reality shows and the politics participants plot against each other. The market wants more masala now as we have become market driven. These shows have shown a rise in demand but that doesn't mean one should stop attempting to make educational shows," he said.

The versatile actor, who also did crossover films like "Bend It Like Beckham" (2002), "Bride and Prejudice" (2004) and "The Mistress of Spices" (2006), will be see in another such project called "Break Away", which is Bollywood star Akshay Kumar's first international venture.

"Based in Canada, 'Break Away' is an emotional father-son story. It is based on Ice hockey. The film brings across the cultural differences abroad. If I have to put it directly, it is the 'Bend It Like Beckham' of ice-hockey. The film is directed by Robert Lieberman and stars Russell Peters, Gurpreet Ghuggi and Camilla Belle," said Anupam, who was last seen in the recently released "Yamla Pagla Deewana".

But that doesn't mean Anupam is completely averse to Hindi films.

"One of my upcoming Hindi films is 'Yeh Faasle'. It will release on March 3; then I am doing 'Game', starring Abhishek Bachchan and Boman Irani. I am also doing a film with Disney which is called 'Zokkomon' and lastly 'Hawai Dada'. These are the projects that I am working on currently," he said.
