Listening Post - The Speaking Poster Innovation

2012-11-14T07:44:00.001-08:00

A poster can speak, would you believe it? Recently the notice boards of Liverpool UK covered with amazing posters which can playback music. This poster is about a musical show. There are some thumbnail images placed in the poster and if someone touches it, it will play a music. Also this poster allows you to book your seat to the musical show. There's an another thumbnail button and when pressed it will play back your seat number.
This new poster is the next generation of the posters. These posters can placed like other posters on notice boards. This poster called as "Listening Post" . This poster made in the normal paper with a printed circuit.

Listening Post is really like a normal poster but it made out from a conductive paint. All the parts including graphics, letters of this poster is also a part of this circuit. Solar power used as the energy source for this poster and used solar powered batteries. These batteries also printed on the poster which is unnoticeable. The speaker of this poster also printed on the poster (There is a special technique used to thick the poster, then a speaker can easily place). If the speaker volume too low then there's a headphone jack also.

There are some ongoing experiments to reduce the cost of this poster and also researching the ways to increase interaction this with people. One technique already added is the "Like" button. People can vote the "Like" and which will store in the circuit. Later, those votes can be counted.

There is a huge gap between web page and a normal poster, because in web page people can interact with them. The innovators of this Listening Post said that, "This Listening Post will reduce the gap between web page and normal poster".

Is It Necessary to Eject before Remove the Flash Drive ?

2012-11-12T08:59:00.002-08:00

USB flash drives are very common among all the computer users to travel data. If you want to move any kinds of computer data like images, videos and songs one computer to another, most of the time we'll use flash drives (Pen Drive).

There is a Myth among computer users that it is necessary to eject ("Eject" means go to task bar then click "Remove Hardware" and select the correct flash drive and click "Eject") before remove the flash drive from the computer. These are some rumors that if you remove the flash drive without eject it,

1. All the data in the flash drive may lose
2. Flash drive or the computer may damage

After finishing copied all the data from the computer to the Flash drive (or other side), if you remove it (without eject) from the computer, there's no damage or data loss occurs. But most important when the data copying if you remove the flash drive, all the data or part of the data will lose. Also it may damage to the flash drive, but there's no damage to the computer. So do not ever remove the flash drive when the data the exchanging.

Keep the Computer without Shutdown Good or Bad

2012-11-11T00:23:00.001-08:00

Keep the Computer without Shutdown Good or BadShut down the computer is one of the computer action that you may do all the time when using the computer. The question is "Is it essential to Shutdown the computer all the time after you are using your PC ? ". My answer is "Not always" (Simply NO).

The computer does need to rest but not every day. So you don't need to shut down the computer after you are using it daily. You may know that the "Server" computers may have works months or maybe years continuously without shutdown. There are so many inbuilt techniques in the computer to reduce the generating heat when it works (Ex: Cooling fans). Most of the computer problem occurs because of the decline of its parts.

Most of the modern computer parts and component manufacture to works longer period of time continuously without decline. When you are buying a computer, you may get a two year warranty or three years warranty etc... Warranty period means the eligible period of the computer that can work continuously without Shutdown.

Always shut down the computer just save your electricity bill. Other than that there's no need to shut down the computer always.

Where Apple Nokia Samsung Dell Hp Sony Manufacture? in Taiwan?

2012-09-12T08:49:00.003-07:00

Apple Nokia Samsung Dell Hp Sony Manufacture in Taiwan

Samsung Galaxy , IBM machines, Sony Ericsson Mobiles, Apple iPod, HP pavilion laptops, Dell laptops, Cisco, Acer laptops, Blackberry mobiles, Panasonic TVs…

In above list expressed some of the electric items that we use in day today life. Most of them are very famous brands in the market. Do you know where this all “Original Equipment Manufacturers” are? Will you believe all these electric items originally manufacture in just only 10 companies? I also shocked but that is true that all the famous electric items in the world manufacture just only in 10 companies.

Famous “Foxconn” in Tucheng, Taiwan is the largest company among these 10 companies (Foxconn has motherboard with their brand name). The electric items and brands manufactures in the Foxconn is unthinkable.

Some of electric items that are manufacture in Foxconn are Dell laptops, Apple iPod, Apple iPad, Apple iPhones, Acer laptops, Nokia phones, HP laptops, Amazon Kindler, Nintendo console, Intel chips, Sony Ericsson (SONY) phones and Cisco routers etc.

The other main EMC (electronics manufacturing services) provider’s headquarters,

FoxConn - Thaiwan
Celestica - Canada
Flextronics - Singapore
Compal - Taiwan
Jabil - United States
Inventec - Taiwan
Quanta Computer- Taiwan
Wistron - Taiwan
TPV - Hong Kong, China
Sanmina SCI - United States

You can see most of the company’s headquarters are placed in China, Taiwan area, some of the companies are in USA but the workshop of those companies also placed in China area. Less labor cost is the main reason those companies placed in those areas.

Though these EMC companies manufacture lots of items, the revenue share gain from these companies are very less. As an example think about a Apple iPod: the idea of the iPod, Design, Circuit Design, Software are install by the Apple company so it will gain a High revenue share. EMC companies just only do physical manufacture the electronic physical device.

As most of this biggest EMC companies placed in Taiwan and China, It will help them to create duplicate low quality mobile phones, iPods etc because they can gain most of the technical secrets among these companies.

What to Do If Your PC Has a Harmful Virus?

2012-09-05T09:44:00.001-07:00

Why virus spreads around all the disks, after completely removal of the virus using an antivirus? I think this common question for the most of computer users. This incident happens because of the virus already in the computer when the antivirus software install.

Most of computer users install a virus guard because to remove all the present viruses in the computer. After the virus scan most of the viruses are remove permanently but some are remove temporary and again grow inside the computer. These temporarily removed viruses are spreading again inside the disks after removal using antivirus. Because of these temporarily removing viruses are working with the operating system. If you remove it 100 times again it grows. So what is the solution for this problem?

There are two solutions you can use to clear the virus from the disk,

Boot the computer from the “Rescue disk” and try to remove the virus.
This is the easiest solution: Connected the virus infected hard disk to another computer which has a virus guard, and then remove all the viruses.

I think now you have two solutions for this annoying problem, please test this and comment your result. What is the best antivirus software you preferred?

France Wide Web Minitel is Shutdown

2012-08-29T09:57:00.002-07:00

Online banking, online booking and many more online things spread around the world because of internet. But would you believe, in 1978 there’s a network for online things in France? It is called France-Wide-Web and also called “Minitel”.

In earlier days, the purpose of this Minitel is to do banking, shopping, connect to air and rail service departments and also connect with cable TV services etc in online by using a keyboard and monitor. This was very successful at that time and this was the best communication network before originate internet. Monitor, key board, modem and the telephone connection are the main part of Minitel network. Transaction media is telephone lines and only “Text” will be visible in the monitor. Once you ordered a Minitel system it comes with the telephone and connection.

Best features of this Minitel,

Order the needed things from shopping store.
Booked the air and train tickets.
Find any telephone number from online telephone directory.
Do online banking.
Credit card payments.
Email box

I think you can’t imagine this kind of facilities in 1978, but Frenchmen got the chance to do work from online and in 1982 whole country covered by this Minitel network. At that time Minitel is one of the greatest technical equipment for whole world because there’s no internet at that time.

Some of the countries copied this Minitel and constructed their own networks using Minitel technology,

British – Prestel
Germany – BTX
Canada – Alex Tel
South Africa – Bel tel
USA – Community Link
Italy – Video Tel

After spreading the internet around the world, most of the countries are shutdown the Minitel systems. But French people not shutdown it and keep using this Minitel after the internet comes. Even in 2010 Minitel earned like 30 Million Euros with 10 Million users.

In 2012 June 30^th is the last day of Minitel and the owners of Minitel decided to shutdown this network. Some reasons for this decision is,

Further extension for Minitel is really hard
Internet more flexible than Minitel
The users count getting lower and lower

As internet users, we cannot forget the origin of online works Minitel. The Minitel technology is historical and good bye Minitel.

GPS Controlled Drones for PirateBay Servers to Protect from SOPA

2012-03-24T08:25:00.001-07:00

As you all know about Torrent definitely you would know about “ThePirateBay”. “ThePirateBay.se” is the biggest Bit Torrent website. Most of you would definitely downloaded songs, films, games, software through Piratebay for sure. As the new American government act SOPA – (Stop Online Piracy Act) the free file sharing sites like megaupload banned and took the owner to the custody. Most of the file sharing site shut their sites because of this SOPA. (Still Mediafire is up and running, I don’t know what will happen to them because of this SOPA).

PirateBay also took some serious actions to protect this SOPA. One is they changed their domain “org” to “se” now you can access to piratebay by type “ThePirateBay.se”. “org”is a top level domain and it belongs to America.

The biggest action from piratebay is they try to set their servers in GPS controlled drones in the air. As they said with modern radio transmitters we can get over 100Mbps per node up to 50km away. They setup this drones in the air area of their friendly country. This is still with the experiment level but really achievable with modern wireless transmission.

SOPA - Stop Online Piracy Act, Banned Internet?

2011-12-30T08:42:00.000-08:00

If you're aware of the current world technical news, you should definitely hear about this SOPA. SOPA defines by "Stop Online Piracy Act”. This is a new Act going to confirm in USA and it can limit the use of internet. If you're in outside USA, you will think that "this is an Act in USA so there's no any harm". You're wrong, this Act will harm to each and every person in the world who use internet.

What is this Act can do? This Act gives the full priority to USA government to control and limit the internet access. Simply what they do is blocking the "DNS access" of particular sites (against the law).

What kind of sites can be block because of this Act? If the website content contains any unauthorized stuff, site can be block. Social networking sites like Twitter, Facebook, Myspace and also web hosting provides are in very danger because of this Act. As an example, in facebook, users are publishing various kind of stuffs, that stuffs can be contain some unauthorized things against to that SOPA law, then Facebook is in danger, thou it publish by normal user, the site owner should responsible for it.

Site owners will face various problems because of this Act.

1. USA traffic will reduce

2. Ad revenue can be reduce

As this harmful Act, most of the web content should be remove and also born of new sites reduces because of the SOPA law.

Harms of SOPA law

1. Most of the American web sites can be blocked

2. Big emails will check before delivery

3. Social Network content will ban.

Most of the people do not like this SOPA Act and they start to show the objection to the USA government. If this SOPA Act confirmed it would be a grateful harm to all users of the internet.

Denis Ritchie Founder of UNIX Operating System and C Programming

2011-12-20T08:38:00.000-08:00

Denis Ritchie is one of most unrivalled computer scientist in ever history. Sadly he has passed away recently in 70 years old. Denis Ritchie is the greatest scientist who found the operating system technology to the world and he is the founder of UNIX operating system (UNIX is the base of every operating system).

He is an American and he developed UNIX operating system for Bell Labs Company where he works at 1975. Denis Ritchie and his group develop UNIX 6 operating system and it commercialized in 1975.

Do you believe that Denis Ritchie is the person who develops “C programming language”? He is the founder of C programming language also. C programming language is the base language of all other languages currently use. So without Denis Ritchie’s these 2 innovations, can you think of any computer work?

In 1980 Microsoft releases a 16 bit OS called “Xenix” for micro computers and it is the base OS for current versions of windows. This “Xenix” operating system is an upgrade of UNIX. So without UNIX no windows.

In 1985 Apple create an OS called “NeXT” and it is the base of MAC OS. This “NeXT” also developed with UNIX. Some of the codes written by Denis Ritchie in 1971 still can be found in the latest versions of MAC OS kernels. So without UNIX no MAC.

In 1987 Andrew S. Tanenbaum developed the MINIX Operating system using UNIX OS. This MINIX kernel upgraded by Linus Torvalds and created the LINUX OS. LINUX kernel use for develop various OS like Ubuntu, Fedora etc. Still UNIX source codes can be found in this Linux kernel.

Famous OSes like WINDOWS, MAC, and LINUX are basically developed with UNIX (Lately found that Chrome OS also use the codes of MINIX). Now you can understand how big the Denis Ritchie’s innovations are.

Denis Ritchie born in 1941 Sept 09 at New York and he got PHD from University of Harvard in 1968. As his contribution to the computer science he awarded the “Turing award” in 1983. “Turing award” called the Nobel Prize for computer science.

Computer Memory Measurement Units

2011-12-13T08:16:00.000-08:00

When you buy a computer, most of your friends will ask “What is RAM size?”, “What is hard disk size?” etc. Your answers would be “2GB RAM and 300GB Hard”. What you expressed by “GB”? GB means Gigabyte and it is kind of a unit to measure the computer memory. Can your brain memory measure in GB?

When you download a film, your friend will ask “how is the file size?” you will give a answer like 700MB. So what is this MB, GB etc, those are the measuring unit of the computer memory and the computer files sizes. “YottaByte” is the largest computer memory measurement unit introduced. This is how computer memory units connect with each other.

kilobyte (kB) X 1024 = 1 X megabyte(MB)
megabyte(MB) X 1024 = 1 X gigabyte(GB)
gigabyte(GB) X 1024 =1 X terabyte(TB)
terabyte(TB) X 1024 = 1 X petabyte(PB)
petabyte(PB) X 1024 = 1 X exabyte(EB)
exabyte(EB) X 1024 = 1 X zettabyte(ZB)
zettabyte(ZB) X 1024 = 1 X yottabyte(YB)

Microsoft and Mozilla, Bing Search Engine Comes with Firefox

2011-12-10T22:15:00.001-08:00

This is the latest league of Microsoft and Mozilla. Now with the Firefox browser, Bing search engine comes as the default search engine. This is a new agreement between Mozilla and Microsoft companies and to publish this around the world Microsoft launched a new website (www.firefoxwithbing.com). By using above site you can download the Firefox with default Bing search engine. In previously if you want Bing search engine with Firefox you have to download the Add-on and install it.

This is a new strategy of Microsoft to promote their search engine and give a competition to Google. In the world internet community, 52.6% using internet explorer, 22.5% using Firefox and 17.6% using Google Chrome. With the browsers, Microsoft has a clear lead but with the search engines Microsoft is way below to the Google. In world community 82.4% using Google search, 6.8% using Yahoo search engine and only 4.2% using Bing search engine.

Microsoft needs a quick boost of their search engine Bing, which is the plan of this agreement. With this agreement Microsoft can introduce their Bing search engine to Firefox users. Gaining a Free publicity to Firefox browser is the advantage to Mozilla. 50 – 50 advantages to both parties but can Bing SE give a competition to Google?

The new ASIMO is creates a new generation of Robots and it will really helpful in future work.

What is CSV files and CSV File Format?

2011-12-02T07:47:00.001-08:00

When you use day today files in computer did you ever experienced a file type (file extension) called “CSV”? “CSV” file format can be used to store data (like database). Actually CSV files store data as “basic database format”. Most of the websites use this CSV files to keep their data without using a database. The biggest advantage of CSV file is it can be opened with any text editor (can edit manually). Other advantage is this data can easily input to the website or program. As an example, a website needs to track on phones (1000 phones) then the website can use CSV file to keep this 1000 phone details.

If you want to create a CSV file you can use software like Microsoft Excel. Enter the data in the excel sheet and save the Xcel file with extension “.csv”.

This is how “CSV” file look when it opens in notepad.

Microsoft Office 15, Release on 2012 or 2014?

2011-11-29T07:40:00.001-08:00

This is the latest news published in Microsoft is about Microsoft office package 15 (the latest). Before this edition there was 14 Microsoft office packages and that’s why this edition called as “Microsoft office 15” package (Latest published version is Microsoft office 2010 and that’s Microsoft’s 14th office package). This latest Microsoft 15 office package will name the year it release.

When will this office package 15 release? Most of the people have aware about this. Microsoft said that, they release a new office package in 2.5 years time to time. So this package should release before December 2012 and should be named as Microsoft office 2012. But if they couldn’t release this in year 2012 and if it transfer to 2013 they won’t name this as Microsoft office 2013 because 13 is kind of bad digit. So if it transfers to 2013 this 15th office package will name as “Microsoft office 2014”.

Microsoft office package starts to develop before year 2010 (Before release 2010 office package). Some tips about 15 office package is basically this has the same features of 2010 office package, the Ribbon interface it keep it as it is but there will be more feature on the office interfaces. Microsoft never publish their facts to the public before the beta version but some leaked information are the interface will contain more features, a secret application called “Microsoft Lime” will release with this package, also more importantly there will be a mobile version of Microsoft office package 15 and it contains the touch screen facility, working with GPS facility and many more. So office package 15 will be more focus on the mobile computing tasks.
