To get to the beaches one has to walk from the centre along the cobbled street for about half a mile. The beaches are fantastic, white sand meeting lush tropical forest. Cant remember what I did but it probably involved the beach at some point. Later watched City of God... this was based in a favela and indeed most of the young actors were teenagers living in the favelas at the time.
