HTC Sensation Android 4.0 update now available in some European countries

The first Android 4.0 update for an HTC phone is finally here! Today, HTC is making good on its promised of releasing the Android 4.0 update for the HTC Sensation and Sensation XE by rolling out the update to handset owners in Germany and a few Nordic countries. As expected , the Android 4.0 update is accompanied by HTC Sense 3.6 which features a few UI tweaks to accommodate new features included in the Ice Cream Sandwich update.

Now that the update is officially rolling out, we should see the update start popping up in other countries over the next few weeks. The HTC Sensation 4G from T-Mobile USA is also expected to receive the Android 4.0 update before the end of March, so keep a close eye out for an update notification over the next few weeks.

If you’re already received your Android 4.0 update for your HTC Sensation (or have played with the numerous leaks over the pas t month or two), leave us a comment below and let us know what you like about it. Some will be disappointed that they will not be treated to HTC Sense 4.0, but we’re sure people will enjoy Android 4.0 so much that they they won’t even notice – at least for a few weeks.

Hey if the htc rezound dont get sense 4.0 that includes music hub and allows full beats by dr dre than we are getting a short straw here the main feature of the phone is that and Ics is less important than the beats audio thank for the beta device htc

The new Beats audio SDK works with HTC Sense 3.6 as well. You just have to wait for add developers to integrate it into their applications.

Just updated my Sensation XE. First off, it seems markedly slower than before, less “snappy” and not as responsive.

Secondly, It’s very VERY obvious what’s HTC and what’s Google/Android in this update. HTC/Sense is totally outdated, the visual elements seem a bit childish compared to the new fresh/sharp Android. HTC’s icons and graphics are simplistic and seem less sharp/lower resolution. It’s like they have tried to make it as simple as possible to make it easier for my mother to use Sense. IMO, users are more advanced than that in 2012. At least people who are in the market for a top of the line phone.

Sense should be pushed down to lower end phones.

I really just cant own any android phone, thats not stock without rooting it anymore.. You guys should really look into Rooting, unlocking bootloader, installing cwm, then installing this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1408351 Performance will be MUCH better and its basically stock 4.03. , they took the sense 3.6 4.0.3 build, completly desensed it and themed it to match aosp ics, so its very stable.

I’ve used a stock rom for ics and wasn’t a big fan of it maybe because all my androids had aversion of sense UI from the my touch 4g with the my sense UI to the two sensations I’ve had and only phone Ihad with stock was the first my touch 3g… I’m just so used to sense UI going to stock is kind of weird if that makes any sense but I might try stock again once I get the One S I’ll root my sensation again maybe …

I wonder, will root affect my receiving the update on T-Mo? I’ve been rooting since my G1 days in ’08, but never received an update on any of my phones since then while rooted… If I do receive it, will it mess up my root somehow? :/

It is a well known fact that root disables OTA. I question either your honesty (if you have indeed been rooting since the G1), or your intelligence.

No need for that sort of response, I have been rooting since the G1, although I am in no way a developer or anything of that sort. I have just heard different things from different people and never actually researched it much, so I though I’d just ask here in an Android community that is well respected and loved by myself.

So thanks anyway for clearing it up, although you decided to do it in a derogatory manner.

Actually, root access does not block you from receiving OTA updates. If you have root and a stock bootloader, you can receive OTA updates just fine, but you will lose root once you install the update. If you have a custom ROM, you will not receive an update notification. That being said, if you have root, simply find the new ICS ROM on development forums (which will most likely be rooted) and flash it to your phone without having to wait for the OTA update.

Last week we posted that Google had selected ASUS to help build a low-cost Android tablet, and now Digitimes is reporting a similar story. According to their industry sources, Google and ASUS will release a 7-inch co-branded tablet as early as May with a price of $199-249.
Digitimes does not mention any other specs, but our sources previously told us the device would feature a 7-inch 1280×800 resolution display, quad-core Tegra 3 processor, and ship with a stock version of Android 4.x.
Sources say that Google was seeking a Taiwan-based partner to produce the device and approached Acer and HTC before deciding on ASUS. Acer “did not have in-house R&D capability” and HTC was “unwilling to develop a low-price model to impair its brand image”.
Earlier rumors suggested this device might not launch until June, so it’s interesting to see that the timeline might have been moved up. Google is normally known for delaying their flagship Android products, so this would be a first if they shipped one early.
If May is the target launch date, we could see Google and ASUS reveal this tablet at the CTIA Wireless convention in New Orleans on May 8-10.
Even though Digitimes says the price could be between $199-249, we strongly believe it will debut at $199 as this device will be marketed as a Kindle Fire killer.
We also thought that this device might be branded Google Play, but it turned out that was the name for Google’s new online content stores. I’ll go out on a limb and predict it might now be called Nexus Play.
Our audience was quite excited with the original rumor report with one reader proclaiming, “I will push small children over to get to it.” If all the details turn out to be true, Google and ASUS could have an instant winner on their hands.

on the serious side, its sad that HTC said “NO i dont wanna make “Cheap” stuff”, and acer just cant (i dont like their tablets for some reason and now i see why), what would said samsung ?
asus, dell and sony could make a tablet this cheap they have long history in making this kind of devices (computres in general and so), i dont mind asus doing the nexus tablets from here on the future

I feel that ASUS is the best choice, and in the end will be the major Android reseller on the market. Acer is iffy, and Samsung is pissing off their customers. HTC is moving to their own drum, and making some nice stuff, but ASUS is keeping their customer’s happy, as well as staying close to Google with Android.
I think this could be the turning point Google needs to step up their game. I would love to have a Transformer Prime HD, but I have a SGT 10.1.

Asus is really doing great they are on the right track teaming up with Google for the nexus tablet will only benifit them even more. The last few years Asus has been making there branding well known to those who haven’t heard of them . A Nexus tablet device, at that unbeatable price point? An I’d be more than happy with Asus as manufacturer seeing what kind of stuff they’ve been putting out of late.

I will gladly take one for $250 w/ 8GB’s internal, a micro SD card slot, & a front facing camera (it can be VGA, just pretty good quality). If they can’t get the micro SD card slot, fine, leave it out, just give me the FFC. I was already going to get the ASUS MeMO 370T, for going away to the new college as a gift. Which is now rumored to come out around the same time as this, May/June. So this is great. Patience really is a virtue, it’s hard to wait, but waiting sometimes can serve you the better presents. I was gonna get a tablet by Christmas time, but I was told to wait because they’re just clearing out old stock (& what I wanted anyway was gone), & look what happened when I waited.

I would be okay with focusing on a nicer front camera and leave out the back camera. That’s just me, because I don’t need to take pictures with my tab. I would definitely video chat with my out of town family.
I also understand in the case of great specs, it’s needed for show. If micro SF and possible USB port, it will be money well spent. I can’t wait to use apps like splash top with a Bluetooth keyboard to knock out some work on the go.

I completely agree. It would only seem right to have a nice front facing camera on a tablet, especially a Google Nexus one. I mean it’s like having a mini-laptop, why not have a ffc for video chatting? It’s all for convenience & portability for all your usual functioning you would use on a laptop basically. & yes it would be money well spent. I would even stretch $300 for it, but I think $250 is perfectly reasonable for all that, especially considering if you just switch the rear camera on the MeMO 370T (which will be $250) & make it a front facing camera on the Google Nexus Tablet. I’m so excited myself, can’t wait :D

Intel Medfield impresses in recent benchmarking scores

Folks in France will soon get a taste of Intel’s Medfield, Intel’s mobile chipset which could be about as powerful as Tegra 3 in many areas. The Santa Clara smartphone is heading to Orange later this spring, and thanks to German-based Caschys Blog, we now have some new benchmarks for the Medfield device. Caschy ran the Rightware and Vellamo browser benchmarks on the Santa Clara.
On the Rightware benchmark, the Santa Clara came in at 89,180, below the 98,272 score in the Galaxy Nexus, but slightly above the iPhone 4S’a 87,810.
When it came to the more well-known Qualcomm Vellamo benchmark, the Intel Medfield based Santa Clara phone truly shined. The Santa Clara scored much higher than the Galaxy Nexus, finishing slightly below the current industry-leading ASUS Transformer Prime. This is despite Medfield being a 1.6 GHz single core x86-based chipset.
This is not the first time we’ve seen Medfield being compared to the Tegra 3 chipset. Earlier this year, Medfield was clocked slightly higher than Tegra 3 in the CaffeineMark benchmarking tool, a single-threaded tool that doesn’t take advantage of the Tegra 3′s other cores. Today’s benchmark makes a bit more sense, as we’d expect the quad-core Tegra 3 to outperform the single-core Medfield, however slightly the difference may be.
While we always recommend you take benchmarks with a grain of salt, as they only tend to predict real world performance, today’s benchmarks give us good reason to get excited about what Medfield will bring to the Android table. We can’t wait to get our hands on a U.S. bound Medfield device, which could be coming as early as the next few months.

anyways A9 arch is damn old (5years iirc), A15 would be a real benchmark for the new Intel chip

I agree. I would like to see a benchmark between an A15 32nm and A15 28nm and the Medifield to get a real comparison. I know this gives us something to go buy and idea of what to expect. But what if the new processors are much better as stated this will be outdated just after release. Not that is a big deal that happens all the time. But when will they come out with a new processor to compete with the new ones coming out all the time. The other big factor that has been brought up is we have not seen anything on battery life. That is one of things that everyone is looking forward to with new processors.

A9 is only about a year old. A8 chips only started coming out about 3 years ago. Iphone 3GS was one of the first along with the Samsung Hummingbird.

I think you guys are still believing that ARM architecture is good, but the true reality is starting to show up. Intel Medfield is single core compare to FOUR CORES ARM A9 in the Tegra 3…even is A9 is a year or two old…that core count difference between Medfield and Tegra 3 is big enough for Tegra 3 to outperform Medfield by far…but the benchmark shows the Tegra 3 is just slightly above Medfield…that is a reality nobody can hide.
The reality here is that Intel x86 architecture is much more mature and with better perfomance than ARM…ARM has been claiming the crown on smartphone for long time simply because there was ZERO competition. But now with Intel inside things will change. And also remember that already Intel announce a 2x performance increase by next year, so even with ARM A15 things will not change. Intel performance is the best without questioning. Just ask AMD, SUN Microsystem or IBM.

It’s really more about the power of Intel than the power of x86. If everyone else was doing x86, Intel would still come out ahead because they have the most advanced facilities.

No. x86 is not meant for mobile phones, it uses too much power and draws too much heat. They may make all sorts of improvements and claims and get it better and better but in the end, it’s still going to run hotter and use more power than the ARM CPU’s. But that’s not the worst part, most games in the market won’t play on x86, they’ve been using Java’s Native code or something that basically removes the “portability” between platforms offered by Java. A lot of games and high end apps require certain local java native libraries/system calls that are dependent on ARM. Basically, a lot of programs will be missing from the market. I have several x86 based devices (Intel Moorestown) and can’t install so many apps (Including Angry Birds).
Them entering the Android arena is actually a bad thing. They’re going to fragment the system even more, certain apps will now only run on ARM while others only run on x86; this app is optimized for this CPU/GPU but this app is optimized for this other one, etc. etc. It’s almost as bad as Nvidia’s games optimized just for their Tegra devices. Yeah you get great performance and visuals but now there’s a game, an app, out there that a lot of Android people can’t run. Bringing x86 into the ecosystem will make it that much worst.
Honestly Intel should leave Android alone and “maybe” focus on less developed, less established, OS’s such as Windows Mobile, Windows 8 and/or WebOS. There’s not thousands upon thousands of ARM-Based App’s already in existence for them.

Both of those benchmarks relate to web browser performance. Of course you’d expect a high-clocked single core processor to do well. You do realize that the S4 scores double that Medfield score on Vellamo? A9-class performance is really disappointing for a new CPU.

The intel atom medfield processor benchmarked is a single core processor with Two execution units (hyperthreading). Hyperthreading is almost the same as having a dual core processor.
please never write an article describing an intel processor without discribing intel processor
Hyperthreading, as most Intel processors have made use of hypertreading technology for some years now!!!

Welcome back to our weekly Top 10 Android App Updates column, where we take a look at the most upgraded apps for the week. I’ve found that one of the best ways to discover useful apps is to look at what people are actually updating, and not focus on which apps have the most installs.
To find the most updated apps, I turn to AppAware. It’s a great tool that shows me which apps have active support from their developers and sometimes reminds me of an old app that I might have removed long ago. Make sure to install it so your activity can help determine our weekly top 10 list.

Wetter.com is a popular weather service in Germany, but their app supports forecasts for any location. Most of the additional features like reports, radar, and videos are limited to European countries, so you might want to avoid this is you live in the US.

Another release from the Go team, Go Keyboard is one of the most full featured keyboard replacement apps for Android. It supports a ton of languages, has endless themes, and includes a custom layout optimized for tablets. The app is free, so it’s worth a shot if you are unhappy with your current keyboard.

I’ve tried all the sports apps, including this one, and I always end up returning to ESPN’s mobile site. ScoreMobile looks to be well liked among its users with an average review score of 4.4. They recently added in-depth UFC coverage featuring interactive live blogs, so maybe I’ll try it out again. ScoreMobile also supports live event push alert notifications, so you can keep up the latest scores of your favorite teams.

There were rumors that Google Play might be the name for Google’s upcoming 7-inch tablet, but it turns out it’s actually a “digital entertainment destination where you can find, enjoy and share your favorite music, movies, books and apps on the web and on your Android phone or tablet.”
Today in a company blog post Google announced the Android Market will now be called the Play Store, Google Music will become Play Music, Google Books will become Play Books, and the Video App will turn into Play Movies.

Google Play is already live on the web and it will be rolling out to devices with Android 2.2 or higher over the coming days. All content and apps in your existing account will remain in your account, but will transition to Google Play.
Right now, it looks like the countries that have access to Google Play will remain the same for different types of content. Google said they are working to expand support to new markets, but they don’t have a specific timeline to share.
Types of content by country include:
Paid Apps: Available in these countriesMovies: Available in US, UK, Canada, and JapaneBooks: Available in US, UK, Canada, and AustraliaMusic: Available in US
It appears this change in strategy is to emphasize that Google’s content can now be accessed on any computer with a modern browser and not just Android devices. Users can read books on the Google Play web reader, listen to music on their computer or watch movies online. All the content is stored in Google’s cloud, so you can access it anywhere with your Google account.
“This is really an acknowledgement that these experiences are relevant not just for a mobile environment but across the web,” said Jamie Rosenberg, Google’s director of digital content, in an interview with Marketing Land.

You know what? I would love a simple way to back up EVERYTHING on my Android device. Blackberry and iOS users can just plug in their phone and everything is backed up. On my Android device, only my apps and Gmail info is saved. What about my Apps’ data? I shouldn’t have to root my device to save all of that stuff.

A desktop app might be nice but that’s not what I mean. The ability to have everything backed up to a google server (app data, music, account settings, etc.). Also changing from simply rent to being able to BUY movies would be nice. Google music is far better than itunes but the purchasing setup for the itunes STORE is much easier to use IMO.

the intergration is the web itself always accessable all the time a desktop client i dont think would do anything for android. i already think everything is already greatly integrated in the google ecosystem. i never have to plug in any of my new devices to get what i need. its already in the cloud. I welcome the new “play” theme. i hope it actually does what google will think it can.

The name makes sense for video and music but is terrible for Apps. Why on earth would businesses put business applications into a system called “Play”? That doesn’t make sense. It could make sense for games but not all apps. “Android Market” should remain the name for applications.

I think it makes a lot of sense to take “Android” out of Google’s app store and put it under the same brand as its other proprietary services! One service was called “Android” Market while the other service called “Google Music”. The Market was ALL Google to begin with, there is no point into putting it under a different brand. Technically Android Market was never a part of “Android” to begin with!
I just wonder if this is connected to Google’s new privacy policy. Are these non-Google branded services under the new privacy policy?

It is pretty nit-picky, but I wasn’t the hugest fan of the new icons, either. The logo is so flat and simple while they are much more realistic. They could have really revamped them, instead of just applying the gradients on top of them. I suppose they could be trying to avoid alienating everyone TOO much, though.

Music & books had updates which changed names and icons; market not yet. am frustrated with ongoing google issues which mean all my apps never show up in mylibrary on web and more than 2/3 of the time,apps physically instAlled on my device dont show up in market when i click myapps. just more android frustrations that most likely will have me switch to an iphone5 in the fall

I don’t know if I like the name but I guess it makes sense. They should have just renamed it simply to “Google Market” because you don’t “play” apps. You can play games but not all apps are games.
It would be cool though to access the rest of your content through your web browser such as mp3s bought through Google Music. My hope is that you can play the same Android games through your browser too.

HTC One X and HTC One S benchmark scores

Mobile World Congress was huge for HTC, but as you may have noticed there is not much news floating around this week. Fortunately for all of you, we did a little digging and came across a video on YouTube which you may find interesting. We’ve seen a few benchmark scores from the HTC One S already, but now we have a few videos which walk us through benchmarks from Quadrant, Linpack and AnTuTu and Nenamark2 on both the HTC One X and HTC One S.
Before we dive into the videos, we’d like to stress that benchmark scores do not always give a clear representation as to how a handset will perform with specific games or applications, but they do give us an idea of what the handset should technically be capable of. With that being said, here’s a quick look at the numbers.
HTC One X benchmarksQuadrant: 4,560Linpack: 62AnTuTu: 10,112Nenamark2: 52.0 fpsHTC One S benchmarksQuadrant: 4,828Nenamark2: 60.6 fps
The quad-core Tegra 3 processor inside the HTC One X should produce higher scores than the dual-core S4 processor in the HTC One S on all of these benchmarks, however the resolution difference plays a huge role in 3D benchmarks since the graphics are rendered at native resolutions. The 4.7-inch (1280 x 720) on the One X features 78% more pixels that the 4.3-inch (960 x 540) display on the One S. It’ll be interesting to see the benchmark numbers for the QualcommS4 powered HTC One X which is heading to AT&T this spring.
The benchmark scores for the two HTC One phones clearly show that the Tegra 3 and Qualcomm S4 chips are a lot more powerful than the processors found in last year’s phones. We’re not ready to declare a winner yet between the two, but we’re definitely excited to get out hands on more phones powered by both chips.

No, T-Mobile has not released any dates yet. All we have heard from them in “coming soon”
The HTC One S will be available in Europe starting on April 5, but since T-Mobile was one of the first to launch the HTC Sensation 4G last year, I’m hoping the One S launch will be in the first half of April.

Bit surprised the S4 isn’t available in more chips, it really seems like a choice between a quad-core atom and a Core2Duo, where for everyday tasks the dual cores are faster while for massively threaded tasks the quad core option is better.
Considering just 12 or so months ago we were using single core phones and iPhones have been smooth since before Cortex A8′s were around (i.e. offloaded to old GPU), I probably won’t need quad cores for most things, give me more efficient, more zippy dual cores instead and work on making my phone last 3 or more days.

The display technology is the same, but it does have a higher resolution which should be noticeable (qHD 960 x 540 versus WVGA 800 x 480) since it features about 30% more pixels

New Samsung Galaxy Series Names Trademarked 2012-03-23T21:31:00.000-07:00 "> 0by Ed Caggiani tagged Galaxy Accelerate, Galaxy Express, Galaxy Thunder, NFC, Samsung Galaxy, Samsung Galaxy SIII, SIII, trademark, USPTO Samsung just filed for US trademark protection for a new series of names for their Galaxy series of devices, in addition to the ones filed earlier for the Galaxy Emerge, Stellar, and Halo. Whether or not these new names end up as commercial products, Samsung now has the option to use Galaxy Thunder, Galaxy Express, and Galaxy Accelerate. Could these actually be three names for the upcoming Galaxy S III, each slated for a different US carrier? We’ll have to wait and see. One other interesting trademark from Samsung is Samsung Wallet, which sounds like an NFC payment system that could be another competitor to Google Wallet and ISIS. You know, one that was fancy but fit my needs for daily use without lag. Well when I first saw the preview for TSF Launcher and its functionality I became quite excited as I felt this would possibly fit the bill. Well when the launcher became live I went to the Android Market now turned Google Play Store to download it. I gawked at the $17 price tag but made the purchase thinking I would play with it for a few minutes and then return it in the 15 minute refund window. Well as I got to playing with it I decided that I’d keep it and write up a review for you guys so that you didn’t have to go in blind in purchasing this. In order to get a good feel for the launcher and how it worked I dedicated 10 days to it because honestly I feel that you can’t get a good feel out of a launcher or an app until you’ve used it consistently for a period of time. While apps may take less time, a launcher is something you use everyday so it requires some extra attention. So here it is in all its glory; ten days with the TSF launcher, my hands on review. The Good This is by far the most original launcher I have ever used. The doodads and widgets that come with, but as separate downloads, add some much needed polish and functionality to your homescreens. The weather widget is just a touch of different and I like the feel. The music widget adds music functionality at the touch of your fingers and I do have to say that I like the “Sticky Note” widget function for quick reminders and notes. In the time I’ve used it we’ve had an update that fixed the force closes and glitches I was having and I have yet to see a force close since so I won’t complain about that. The update also added some toggle widgets that range from Wifi to Airplane Mode with Sound, Help and others in between. Another toggle they have is one that changes the density or size of everything. This means that you can effectively put a whole bunch of stuff on one page. The only downside to this is that all your apps look tiny and cluttered (see below). Transitions between the homescreens took a bit to get used to in that you had to hit the bottom left corner of the screen (see below) to access the ability to move between the 4 home screens and “app drawer.” At first I found myself trying to swipe left or right to access my other homescreens and became frustrated when nothing happened. At least that was until I remembered how to access everything. Once I got used to that I was moving between homescreens with ease. Everything felt smooth and that could be the hardware in my Galaxy Nexus making this launcher shine. I had no lag whatsoever moving through the launcher. It was after that though that I started noticing the shortcomings. The Shortcomings Okay let’s just get this out of the way right in the beginning. $17 dollars is a steep price to pay for an app. This is in part to the app pricing set up that is already established making high end apps close to $5. Now that doesn’t mean I won’t pay the price for a good product or an app that’s worth it but with all the hype and the preview videos I must have read or watched a dozen times, I expected more. For the most part though it’s because of the price that these shortcomings become so prevalent. This whole launcher felt as if it were a beta app. When I tried to replicate some of the features I kept getting an error or nothing happened at all. For example I tried the replicate the lasso effect in various areas and I kept getting the pop up “This function is not available in the current version,” (see below). When I pay 17 dollars for an app I don’t want to be told to expect a feature in a later update or that it’s not available now. I can look past that but the one thing that I cannot look past in a custom launcher is a lack of scrolling widget support. Most launchers like Go Launcher or ADW Launcher, heck any of the launchers I’ve ever used, have this built in. To not have it at all is ridiculous. I use scrollable widgets all the time between my Gmail, Twitter and Reader apps andI felt stunted at not being able to do so. It seriously hindered my ability to look at look at social updates, news items and my voicemail at a glimpse. One last gripe I have is the process to set up folders. Rather than drag and drop and have the folder automatically created you have to pull a folder from the side-loaded menu then go to the “app drawer” and pull apps from there. I was able to get the lasso to work just right to select multiple apps every once in a while but I had to be exact about it and it was seldom quick to do. But that really is a personal gripe about it being a tedious process. The Conclusion After using this for the past ten days it felt lacking. I expected to be able to write tons about how glorious and epic this launcher is. Sadly though I couldn’t because it’s not epic… yet. It will get better in time I assume and my gripes may go away at that point but when I spend 17 dollars on an app I expect it to be finished, polished or damn close to. It could be that I have been spoiled by Ice Cream Sandwich and that I am unfairly comparing this to that but let’s face it, given that Android 4.0 is the cream of the crop the comparison needs to be made. This launcher from time to time just felt like yet another launcher without any distinguishing factors. For those of you that are missing out on Android 4.0 though, I would say that this would be a good launcher for you for functionality and folder support plus the polish that is there. However I honestly have no idea how this will function on lower end devices. Like I said, I found no issues on my dual-core phone. The lack of scrolling widgets and missing features is a deal breaker for me for the price though. If the launcher were cheaper I wouldn’t mind so much. You could get similar functionality from much cheaper launcher options and various folder apps and you’ll get scrollable widgets to boot! I want to very much recommend this launcher but I just can’t for the price. The polish it has doesn’t outweigh its lack of functionality. Its really overpriced, I can’t be live they didn’t take the hint that SPB Shell was over priced. Also the lack of bieng able to swipe between screens is a huge let down. Apart from that its as smooth as go launcher or nova and looks amazing – Galaxy Nexus Sense 4.0 alpha port. Anonymous Ive tried it, its rubbish. Too childish and little functionality. Yeah Hands down, its the smoothest launcher out. Works like iphone on my evo 4g. I’m using it going on 2 weeks now, and I agree with the majority of what the OP said. I think folder setup is actually easier than any other launcher besides stock ICS though. My consistent issues I have with this launcher are the lack of scrollable widgets, and disappearing apps in my folders. Very frustrating indeed. I don’t want to go back to my app drawer just to access certain apps that have been cleared from my app cache. The disappearing apps also affects how folders are accessed. Folders require at least 8 apps for it to allow you to string the apps along the screen in a “follow your finger” swipe from the folder. Its a feature I really looked forward too. Its the closest to WebOS’s wave launcher that I could find. When an app disappears though, this functionality disappears along with it. There really should be no limit on thag feature. I’m close to going back to GO Launcher, but lag is the only reason I don’t. TSF has ZERO lag. Period. The downfall of this is that on an old device like mine, the launcher doesn’t stick in memory, so it reloads at times, often inconveniently, like when I’m trying to respond to a text. I’ll be holding steady while updates keep coming. So far I’ve seen one each week. That’s good in my book. Just my two cents. Mike Lynch I also was a sucker who purchased this launcher after watching the videos and reading the reviews. I tried using this launcher for one day and finally just gave up. As the reviewer pointed out, it’s just too difficult to use (creating folders, not being able to scroll between screens, non-scrollable widgets). The force closes I would get just pushed me over the edge into going back to ADW. The force closes may now be fixed with an update, but I will never know. The video shows features that are not implemented, and yet there is no mention of this in the description. Folders are also limited to 12 items which is useless to me after ADW allowing scrollable folder windows. Scrolling widget support is needed. Despite this, I keep it as a shortcut and play with it every now and again (but don’t use it as my main lancher), because it is unique, and smooth and if it is improved, my current feelings of being ripped off could quickly disipate. By including the most fluid UI yet while integrating noteworthy features such as facial unlock and an improved set of widgets for use, ICS makes for a solid experience using the OS and especially UI. As a trademark of Android’s open platform, ICS allows for custom “enhancements” in the form of skins (Sense, TouchWiz, MOTOBLUR, etc.) and style by the various OEM who sell Android-based devices. One thing that’s painfully obvious for many of the “enhancements” done by OEMs is many of the custom skins include well… useless features and poorly designed widgets which tend to actually slow down Android devices despite those same devices having incredible processors and memory. And that’s exactly why you tend to see many (though not all) Android owners go the way of the ROMing route in order to stick it to OEMs and experience what they feel a solid Android experience. While some folks (like me) prefer their Android in vanilla flavor or others (like many of the writers here at TA) prefer custom ROMs and some ummm, you know— like their resource hogging skins, Canadian developer Teknision is out to re-define how Android skins should be developed. Highlighted in our Forums, the same team behind RIM’s Blackberry Playbook UI has developed not only a intriguing skin for Android 4.0′s homescreen, but a stellar one at that in its Chameleon concept which is for tablets. Teknision gets the design of the Chameleon skin right by taking advantage of every aspect of a device’s features. As you can see in the above screenshot, the entire screen is filled up with widgets in order to give you easy and visual access to the items you do most like emailing, your calendar, news feeds and books. This is all done in a sleek and well-designed way too. It’s not meant to be overwhelming too. In fact— the various widgets filling up the screen is meant to improve upon how we use widgets now. Most widgets are not resizeable nor do they effectively present all of our needed information in front of us in an effective way. Chameleon aims to redefine how we use our widgets in our skin. The Chameleon skin doesn’t stop there either— it’s introduced the instant changing of user profiles on our devices. Let me explain: some of us love our devices enough that we share it with those who may use it often too (husband, wife, children, “friends”, etc.). Chameleon makes clever use of its name by adapting to a user’s surroundings and thanks to the integration of facial recognition technology, a profile associated with a specific user can be activated— all on the fly. That means you can see you can see your different apps and general customizations with your profile, while another can see their own apps and customizations in their own profile when they’re logged in, similar to how its done on a Windows or Mac-based PC. Both games are hits on iOS, and had been ported to Android to much excitement. Apparently, the Mika Mobile/Android marriage was not a good one, and the game developers will no longer support the game on Android. Here, the developer explains their challenges with Android: There’s a big difference between generating revenue, and “making money” – It’s not that they haven’t generated income, but that income is offset by the additional support costs the platform has demanded. Where did your dollar go? We spent about 20% of our total man-hours last year dealing with Android in one way or another – porting, platform specific bug fixes, customer service, etc. I would have preferred spending that time on more content for you, but instead I was thanklessly modifying shaders and texture formats to work on different GPUs, or pushing out patches to support new devices without crashing, or walking someone through how to fix an installation that wouldn’t go through. We spent thousands on various test hardware. These are the unsung necessities of offering our apps on Android. Meanwhile, Android sales amounted to around 5% of our revenue for the year, and continues to shrink. Needless to say, this ratio is unsustainable. This begs the question: is Android shooting itself in the foot by needing support for so many different devices? Will this fragmentation issue lead to other developers leaving Android? While the open system of Android has its challenges, it is also the most popular operating system, accounting for 48.6% of all smartphone subscribers. I suspect the future of Android will require compromise from both the developers and Google. Android developers will have to use different tactics in creating apps than they would for iOS, not just porting over a popular app and expecting it to thrive. Now, Google Play has a similar issue that has come to light. If you have been using the PIN code verification feature in Google Play to protect your phone, read on. There is a setting for the Google Play Market that enables a PIN code prompt when you are about to purchase something. The idea is to protect you in the event that someone steals your phone, and wants to buy a ton of apps on your dime. The problem is that the PIN is stored on the device itself, not in the cloud. So, if a thief were to clear the data for the Google Play Market in the “Manage application” settings of your phone (the same way we explained to update Google Play from the Android market), the PIN would be gone, and the thief could buy anything they wanted in the Google Play Market using your credit card. If you realize your phone is gone, you can change your Google password so that Google Play will prompt the user to reenter the password. However, if you don’t realize your phone is gone right away, the thief might already be using your account to purchase things. But it is feature you can read this on Google Help for Google play if you search for. The sense behind is that this pin is a control to buy no app by tipping any button. If you speak about stolen mobilphone you have to put a password or a pin to your mobile phone not within Google Play. Emily A I agree with all the comments. However, the point is that Google should keep the PIN number in their cloud, not on the device itself where it can be wiped. Your child could also use this method to wipe the PIN code and buy any apps they want to. I recommend that smartphone users have a lock screen security feature at the end of the article. The font was polished and basically a breath of fresh air for Android. As time progressed and I played with it on my Galaxy Nexus I kept thinking to myself that it would be a nice font to have on my computer. Well it looks as if others were thinking what I was thinking as Google has announced that you can now download this font for any computer that can display TrueType Fonts. As it is in Google fashion, the font is free to use in whatever you want to put it in so you can add some crispness to those web apps and so on. We immediately filmed an unboxing video and initial review but I figured I would spend a little more time with the phone to complete a proper review. While I intend to put it through the ringer, testing its dust/water/shock proof abilities, I will also be reviewing it’s ability to be a worthy daily driver. It seems that lately we have been focusing a lot of attention on high-end devices and the Rugby Smart is a nice departure from that norm. My initial instincts are that this is a device for those who don’t need the best specs and who are looking for an Android phone that won’t break the bank, or is easily broken for that matter. I spent almost a week using the phone and over the next few sections of this review I will break down its performance, durability and usability. The good and the bad.. The Rugby Smart is Samsung’s newest smartphone and is currently being offered through AT&T for $99 on contract. The phone is touted as a device capable of the toughest environments and has a mil-spec rating of MIL-STD-810f. Not only is the device capable of withstanding dust, water, and shock, it can also endure through climates ranging from sub-zero Antarctic winters to the hottest of Arizona summers. It can even withstand 30 minutes under 1 meter (3.3 feet) of water (see video below). With a sealed body and it’s rubberized accents, the Rugby smart isn’t going to be the tech-guru’s cup of tea, rather one for those who lead an active lifestyle or who work in relatively harsh conditions. Design The design of the Rugby Smart is pretty similar to the other rugged handsets you can find on the market and you can tell the device is solid just by holding it in your hand. It has rubberized edges that not only allow for awesome grip, it will protect the device from drops and/or shock. One thing I like about this rugged phone is that it’s not embellished with a bunch of protruding rubberized accents and it maintains the appearance of a regular (smaller) smartphone. Like most smartphones, the display is recessed a bit to protect it from unwanted scratches and the back has four little feet to help to avoid scratching the battery door. There really isn’t much going on design wise with the Rugby Smart – it doesn’t have any outlandish or snazzy cosmetics or features, but this is by far the best looking all-weather handset available in my opinion. Hardware The thick plastic battery door is held on with a latch that requires a coin or something similar to remove it. The door also has a plastic ridge that surrounds the battery profile that locks into a rubber groove when closed, sealing the battery from moisture. When the battery door is securely locked in place, it shouldn’t have any problems keeping all elements from entering inside the phone. Not only is the battery and inner working of the device protected, all open ports are sealed by a rubberized flap as well. The micro USB and audio jack are sealed so tight with these flaps that I found it hard to open them when I actually needed to. I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or bad. The micro USB is located on the bottom edge of the phone and the audio jack is on the top. Although an affordable device, the 3.7-inch WVGA Super AMOLED screen looks pretty amazing, which is also partially because of its 252ppi. You can view the screen very easily at all angles and it’s even super bright when outdoors in sunlight. The screen is a huge plus in my book, it may be small but it is of super nice quality. You outdoorsy types will love its ability to been seen well in the sun and the phone is super pocketable given its dimensions which are 122.4 x 65.9 x 12.2mm, and weighs in at 119 grams. Below the screen you will find the typical Samsung 4 button layout, but unlike the Galaxy line of phones these are physical buttons. Because they are actual moving parts, Samsung even rubberized these to prevent liquid or sand from damaging the phone. This make plenty of sense especially because capacitive buttons don’t work very well when they get any form of moisture on them. This moisture problem can be noticed on the screen when trying to swipe around homescreens fresh after a dunk in water. The power and volume buttons are found in the usual Samsung places as well. Power is on the upper most right edge and is flanked on the opposite edge by the volume rocker. Just like the rest of the build quality of the Rugby Smart, the buttons are also rubberized and protected from the elements. #gallery-1 {margin: auto;}#gallery-1 .gallery-item {float: left;margin-top: 10px;text-align: center;width: 33%;}#gallery-1 img {border: 2px solid #cfcfcf;}#gallery-1 .gallery-caption {margin-left: 0;} Battery As I mentioned earlier the battery is held in place by a super watertight seal, and when in place, covers up the SIM card (no hot-swapping). The capacity of the battery is 1650mAH and survived a full day of moderate use on a full charge with nearly 25% remaining. When I say full day, you can expect to get about 12-16 hours with moderate web browsing, texting, phone calls and a few pictures and video. Anything beyond that and you are going to peeter out around 8-11 hours. The super AMOLED screen is mostly to blame for this so if you can afford to turn down the brightness you could potentially extend the battery life greatly. If it’s only phone calls your worried about, the Rugby Smart can get on average 7 hours of continuous talk time in comparison to its 5 hours of continuous web browsing. If you are a heavy user, you may want to invest in a spare battery or one of those portable charging get-ups. As far as standby time goes, AT&T claims the phone can remain on standby for up to two weeks. Performance Although the Rugby Smart may not have the most up to date chipset, it keeps up damn well with the functions it is intended on doing. The little 1400 MHz single-core chip was surprisingly speedy and I didn’t notice any lag when swiping between homescreens and opening apps was snappy as well. I realize benchmarking apps are more for show (as long as your device ranks near the top ), but for you firm believers in test results, I figured I’d give AnTuTu a visit. While the phone doesn’t rate up there with the Galaxy Nexus or the Transformer Prime, it does provide a solid user experience. The way in which I chose to rate a device’s performance. What really sets this device apart from the rest is it’s military specification rating. As I mentioned earlier it is rated MIL-STD-810f, in which Wikipedia describes like this: The military standard MIL-STD-810 test series addresses a broad range of environmental conditions that include: low pressure for altitude testing; exposure to high and low temperatures plus temperature shock (both operating and in storage); rain (including wind blown and freezing rain); humidity, fungus, salt fog for rust testing; sand and dust exposure; explosive atmosphere; leakage; acceleration; shock and transport shock (i.e., triangle/sine/square wave shocks); gunfire vibration; and random vibration. I mean how cool is it to know that your smartphone can survive all that? Just the though of submitting any other smartphone to those conditions makes me cringe a little. This is most definitely the phone’s strongest selling feature and reason enough for many to consider taking the plunge (pun intended). Water resistance test Software The Rugby Smart comes out of the box rocking Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread and of course there is Samsung’s Touchwiz UI overlay as well. If you have ever experienced using a Samsung smartphone before, then you basically know what there is to be expected. You get the normal array of Android and Samsung widgets, with the option to customize up to 7 homescreens. One neat thing about this device unlike other Samsung phones is the lockscreen. Upon power-on you are presented with the usual slide-to-unlock lockscreen but if you also have the ability to slide to waiting notifications if there are any available. If you have a text message for example and you power on the device, you can slide to the red notification bubble and enter directly into the waiting message within the messaging app. No more navigating to the notification panel after unlocking. Speaking of notification panel, it and the power widgets have received a slight cosmetic makeover from previous build of Samsung’s Gingerbread, but nothing major. As far as apps go, you get the usual Android apps along with a few Samsung and AT&T ones as well. A couple of the AT&T apps can actually be removed like AT&T Code Scanner, My AT&T and Family Map but the AT&T Navigator must stay unless you are rooted. You will also find Amazon Kindle, Mini Diary, Photo Editor, Quick Office and Yellow pages. The apps that Samsung have included are Featured Apps, Kies Air, Live TV and Social hub. I did however find myself replacing the launcher after initial testing only because I am not a fan of the Touchwiz launcher, I like the ability to customize what goes in the dock. Other than that I have no complaints and the added screenshot feature is a bonus too. Camera The Samsung Rugby Smart comes equipped with a 5MP rear camera with LED flash that captures a maximum resolution of 2560 x 1920 pixels and is capable of recording 720p video. The camera app is slightly different from others I have seen and has a menu bar on the left hand side that allows up to four customized settings. Along the right hand side you will find the usual camera/video switch, shutter button and gallery preview. Pictures actually turned out fairly descent for a $99 phone. Color representation was clean, details fairly sharp, and distortion was to a minimum even when zoomed in. As with most smartphone cameras, any bright light or sunlight will cause the image to get a bit grainy but other than that video playback is solid. I must admit that the microphone is much more responsive then that of the Galaxy Nexus. Truly a surprise indeed. Indoor test video One thing I really dig that I think should be incorporated on all smartphone cameras it the ability to use the camera flash as a flashlight. I know some devices have the ability and there are also plenty of apps that can do this, but Samsung did it on the Rugby Smart in an really ingenious way. You simply hold the volume up button and the flash will turn on and remains on until you press the button again. Pretty sweet. Closing Well, to sum it up I am simply impressed with this phone given how little it costs. It’s not a surprise coming from Samsung and it’s nice to see that they are paying attention to detail in their affordable line of handsets. Sure it has the somewhat annoying Touchwiz UI overlay, but that is easily remedied with a free app from Google Play. The mil spec rating is most definitely a strong feature but even if you don’t plan on being tough on your phone, I still wouldn’t shy away. The smaller form factor is super easy to slip in your pocket and the Super AMOLED display is absolutely beautiful. Out of 157 voters, 72 ordered the basic WiFi only model, and who could blame them? It’s the cheapest iPad and a no brainer for someone who uses it mostly at home and doesn’t need masses of storage for apps, movies etc. A long way behind in 2nd and 3rd place were the 32GB Wifi Only, and the All-You-Can-Eat 4G iPad with 24 (15.3%) votes, and 23 (14.6%) votes respectively. The mid-range models didn’t prove to be very popular. Combined, the three remaining models amassed only 24% of the vote. If you didn’t take part in out Facebook poll, we’d still like to hear which model you ordered, or why you didn’t order one. We know the differences, the similarities, and how each got its name. Apple’s iPad was going along the same lines, until the latest one was released. We all presumed that we would see an iPad 3 this year, it made sense: iPad, iPad 2 then iPad 3. We were wrong. Why? Phil Schiller stated that Apple wanted to “surprise” us. I have to say, surprise was the last emotion I felt: confusion for a split second was followed by a feeling of admiration for something that made complete sense. Apple makes products for the masses. Apple sold 37 million iPhones last quarter, and I can guarantee that only a small percentage of those are techies. The majority of folk buying Apple iDevices are regular people. They don’t read up on specs, they don’t read tech blogs, they just want a cool device, that works. More importantly: they don’t know the names of the iPhones. You’d be amazed how many people call the iPhone 3GS, the iPhone 3. Or the iPhone 4 a “4G”. Even the iPhone 4S will be getting named the iPhone 5 by a few. To us, the names are simple, to the masses, they’re confusing. Other manufacturers, like Samsung and HTC have chosen the complete opposite branding methods, hoping that big impressive names would amaze the punters. Remember Samsung’s Galaxy SII Epic 4G Touch? It’s ludicrous. Since then, HTC has opted for a simpler HTC One “[letter]“, Nokia is going back to numbers and LG released an Optimus series with a similar branding idea to HTC’s. Names need to be simple, because regular folk need to know what they’re asking for. By calling the new iPad the “new iPad” in all marketing, TV ads etc, it ensures that customers can walk in to stores and ask a very simple question: “Do you have the new iPad?” No model numbers to remember, no confusing brand names. Simply: iPad. From the sales people’s point of view it makes deciphering what the customer wants incredibly simple. I remember working for T-moile in the past and spending the first part of any interaction with any customer just trying to figure out exactly what they were asking. The general public is not au fait with all the tech jargon that we use day-to-day. Apple has removed all confusion. Secondly, it fits in with all the other Apple products (bar the iPhone – currently). There’s no iMac 9, MacBook Pro 3, or iPod touch 4. It’s simply a product name, and a generation. To the masses, this is the way forward. Think how many different versions of the iMac have evolved since the original one back when Steve Jobs came back to Apple. None of them look alike, and yet, consumers haven’t been confused about the lack of a new name. They can ask for the “new” one. I’d be delighted if the next iPhone is named the iPhone (6th generation). In the ads it will be “the new iPhone.” Simple. Looking at shipping and order information for the iPad pre-orders confirms that Apple is simply calling the tablet the iPad (3rd gen), like it does with all its products. But, what do you think about it? Would you prefer Cupertino to keep to an iPhone-style naming system, or is simpler better? After all, they say that less is more. The venture will create some 3,600 jobs, doubling the Apple workforce in the city. The jobs will fall under customer support, sales and accounting. In a statement today Steve Dowling said: “Our operations in Austin has grown dramatically over the past decade from less than 1,000 in 2004 to more than 3,500 today,” Apple will recieve $21 million in investment over the next 10 years, and there will also be some contributions from within Austin and Travis County Apple is also planning to expand operations at home, with a 3.1 million sq ft ‘mothership’ development planned at Cupertino itself. SXSW isn’t one conference or event, but a group of events in Austin, TX for the duration of the time. Today, we will take a look at some essential applications you should pack into your iPhone while packing your suitcase for the wonderful excitement. 1. SXSW GO SXSW Go is the official application for the South by Southwest events. This is an essential application for any attendee at the events. The SXSW GO application includes a schedule for all of the events going on at any time, all conveniently shown in a calendar form. It is perfect for planning where you are interested in going to and ones you’d prefer to skip. The application also includes information on how to get to each event and even how to get around in the event with convenient maps and floorplans. SXSW GO has a great feature allowing you to connect with other attendees (the essence of SXSW) and also features allowing you to post, view, and share social networking posts and photos from the events. The app was updated just last week, so it’s ready for you to use today. 2. FoodSpotting SXSW is a hotspot for some great eats in and around the Austin, TX area. However, there are even some amazing food spots right near the events, with many gourmet food trucks showing off some of their magic. If you had to compare Foodspotting with another application, it’s somewhat like the Instagram of food. Foodspotting for SXSW helps out with the events by having the photos users and event attendees upload for helping you choose a great place to eat. Each photo is accompanied by a review and their favorite dish, making Foodspotting a visually appealing menu that many restaurants and food trucks don’t even have. 3. Beluga Beluga was a hit at SXSW 2011, and the popularity hasn’t subsided one bit with the 2012 SXSW season. Beluga in the simplest terms is group chatting. Throughout this list, you will find many group chatting applications included. With the crowds of people, you are presented with a good and bad situation. It’s one of the largest venues for making connections, and it can be hard to find that new connection later on in the week. Beluga makes it easy to create “pods” and have conversations in app. This is great for connecting and rounding up your new connections for hanging out or meeting up. Plus, they don’t even need Beluga to enjoy it as all non-Beluga users receive your messages as text messages. 4. Hurricane Party If you haven’t noticed by now, SXSW is a social event. It’s the key time to make new friends and connections, and what better way to do this than with an application that helps you create an amazing party – on the spot. Hurricane Party is an application that is stationed in the heart of SXSW town, Austin. Hurricane Party allows you to see the best impromptu parties that sprout up during SXSW. Some can be themed, and others can be just a break from all of the swampt official parties that go on during SXSW. There’s even a feature allowing for deals and specials on tickets, food, and more, a great thing to draw more attendees. 5. AirBnb While in Austin, you need a place to stay, don’t you? Austin is a big city after all, which means hotel costs can be quite astronomical come the week before. AirBnb can be your portal to affordable places to stay during the SXSW events. Many attendees are offering up a place to stay for other SXSW attendees, the best way to make more connections and friends during the week. AirBnb is perfect for every budget, from those on a lower budget wanting to rent a room, to others who are splitting the cost of renting a house for the week. 6. Hashable This is the modern take on the age-old custom of business card exchange. I have many business cards, that while I’m sure are all pretty and unique, are most likely never viewed at again after I gather the information into my phone. Hashable is there to make the business card more virtual. Hashable uses Twitter for easy exchange. From tweets to check-ins, Hashable takes this information and creates a venue for all of the relationships you have made with each tweet mentioned or each location checked in. All into your Hashable address book for an easy reference back. 7. LiquidSpace I’m a big fan of shared office spaces, especially being a writer. At SXSW, many bloggers and other individuals in the social media and technology industry will be in attendance at the events both enjoying the festivities and reporting. For many of these individuals, hotel rooms can be a hit noisy or not as close by, and coffeehouse and other places with reliable WiFi are either packed with individuals or areas where events are taking place. This makes a temporary workspace essential. LiquidSpace is the application for individuals looking for a temporary workspace to get some work done while at SXSW. From conversations with new business contacts to writing up that next article, LiquidSpace can provide everything from a full office space to a desk or office, if you have the funds! 8. GroupMe We will conclude this article with an essential for anyone looking for a great application that is perfect for a group conversation. GroupMe is a very well known group chat application that uses the contacts in your iPhone to start a chat. GroupMe has both location and photo sharing as well. They don’t even need an iPhone or GroupMe to receive the messages. You can have a group conversation, propose a question, or send one individual a message. There are some that are speculating that this shift has something to do with the fact that the Android Market is not generating as much money as Google hoped, and that Google Music, Movies, and Books just isn’t all that successful. It’s been shown over and over that Apple’s App Store is more successful in terms of generating revenues. Over the coming days, everyone with Android 2.2 and higher will get an update to their Android Market app. After the update, you will now go to the Google Play Store for all your needs. Videos, books, and music (in countries where they are available) will now be known as Google Play Movies, Google Play Books, and Google Play Music apps. You won’t see any changes with anything you’ve already purchased or downloaded as they will now be available through Google Play. Google is also celebrating this change with a “7 Days to Play” sale. Google will be offering a different album, book, video rental, and Android app at a special price each day for the next week. Today’s titles include collection of top 40 hits Now That’s What I Call Music 41,the game Where’s My Water, the novel Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close,  and the movie Puncture for just 25 cents each. You will also find collections of hip-hop, rock and country albums for $3.99 all week, detective novels from $2.99, the editorial team’s favorite movies from 99 cents, and Google’s favorite apps from 49 cents. Google is marketing this as cloud-based, but wasn’t it always? They’re also taking the approach that they are making things easier by putting everything in one place, but again wasn’t that already the case. This is simply a new marketing approach. The name implies that there are no serious business apps or utilities. Market seemed to me a much better name. While I fell in love with my tablet all over again because of the update I noticed that as the days progressed my tablet would randomly reboot itself. Sometimes it would reboot it four – five times in a row before it would stay on. Then about an hour later it would reboot itself yet again. While it never rebooted in the middle of using it, watching it reboot itself randomly became rather frustrating. Heck, sometimes it would look up in the middle of a boot cycle. It appears that I am not in the minority with these experiences. Other users are reporting lock-ups during reboots, and other various bugs as well. Like the Transformer Prime update and its update problems Asus has taken to announcing that a fix is in the works for the original Transformer ICS update. While users have reported that uninstalling apps, updating widgets and factory resets have helped, this is not a good premise for Asus; especially considering their Hopes to have the next Nexus device and the first roll out of Jelly Bean. Asus writes in regards to the TF101 issues: “Thank you to everyone who has given us feedback regarding the ICS TF101 update.We apologise for the issues some users have been experiencing and we’d like to assure you all that we are working on a fix. We don’t have an exact date for release yet but we’re aiming for early next week.” They also had this to say: “The issues been experienced are down to such a wide variety of reasons that there isn’t one interim solution.
