New kids on the block, childrenswear label A for Apple will present it’s SS 2011 collection at Playtime in downtown Soho this weekend. Creative Director, Denise Ho and her partner Jeffrey Chau have designed a fashion forward line for hipster kids using eco-friendly materials and organic cottons.

A for Apple next season must-have: definitely the Amanda jumpsuit shown above.

Little Big Shots returns to The Playhouse at Sydney Opera House from August 7 – 8 for another huge weekend of the best local and international shorts, animations and documentaries made especially for kids – and some even by kids.

Featuring films from across the globe including Russia, India, Japan and Australia the festival is a great way for kids to see a wonderful collection of stories from all over the world. But the crowd pleasers are sure to be the films based on much-loved children’s books such as Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!; Oliver Jeffer’s magical tale, Lost and Found; and the Australian premiere of The Bake Shop Ghost.

Festival organizers have compiled age appropriate films into daily sessions, so all you have to do is select your preferred date and package. Some sessions include up to 11 short films – great value for just A$16 per ticket. We’ll be there! Book online at Sydney Opera House.

LMNOP will partner with Playtime to present the best collections of kids’ brands and maternity wear at it’s 1st edition, international trade show in New York this weekend. Possibly the most talked-about trade event of the season, Playtime promises to celebrate it’s first New York show in style with a special origami inspired event; an exquisite fairy tale exhibition by artist, Tinou Le Joly Sénoville; and a free ‘Playguide’ to New York for all it’s show guests.

Keep reading the LMNOP Blog this week as we hightlight a few of our favourite brands who’ll be presenting new collections at Playtime this Saturday. First up is Brooklyn-based label, Lucky Fish.

All things bright and beautiful, all creatures great and small – Lucky Fish celebrates them all in their new collection for SS2011. Designer Jann Cheifitz continues to work with vivid colors for the brand’s spring/summer line and takes inspiration from nature and community in cultures from around the globe.

Lucky Fish next season must-have: A special range of subtle white-on-white prints which turn magically into colours when they’re worn in the sunshine and then revert to white when back indoors. Keep an eye out for these hand printed beauties in stores next year.

Kindergallery has just added the colourful works of Parisian artist, Aliette to it’s growing collection of fine art for children. Aliette’s experience as a graphic designer in animation and audiovisual techniques has inspired her to create a unique assembly of artworks that are as delicate as they are bold. Our favourite – The Automne Series, 1 – 4.

The Pink & Blue Project

Korean born photographer, JeongMee Yoon’s photographic thesis was inspired by his five-year-old daughter’s love of all things pink. The Pink & Blue Project explores the trends in cultural preferences, the differences in tastes between boys and girls and among other things, the relationship between gender and modern consumerism.

Yoon begins each photographic session by arranging the child’s belongings himself, creating a ‘personalised set’ made up of larger items at the back and smaller articles spread and displayed at the front. Out & About: Echoa

France’s renowned Arcosm Company, Echoa is performing it’s spectacle of dance and percussion on stage at the Sydney Opera House this weekend. LMNOP saw the show live and met the cast and crew at the opening event earlier this week.

Using drums and ordinary objects, two percussionists and two dancers create a pulsating soundtrack of live beats, rhythms and silly sounds. This high energy show uses movement and melodies, shadows and light, and plenty of humor to delight it’s audience. Best suited for kids age 5+ (and grown-ups!).
