Bewitching Blog Tour Stops & A Giveaway!

You know you're completely overwhelmed when you forget about your second blog tour in a row! Well, I didn't completely forget. I knew it was starting in May. I just didn't realize the date had come and gone already...Between blog reviews, writing new books, and our restaurant opening for the season this month, I have no idea what day it is anymore! There are so many forms of beautiful and diverse artwork in this world. Beautiful handcrafted masterpieces including paintings, sculptures, and jewelry are treasures I love to collect. When I am purchasing handmade products online, I always look for fair trade companies. Men and women from small villages in countries like Thailand are working hard to bring us their one of a kind creations, and Ezistock brings them to us at a fair trade price. The items in this shop definitely suit my witchy style. From spiritual paintings to pewter fairies, there is a little something for anyone with a whimsical heart at Ezistock.

For my review, I was given a $50 Gift Certificate. It wasn't an easy choice picking out just a few items. I actually went a few dollars over my gift certificate, and I definitely plan to come back and get more later. I picked out two different products. The first thing I picked was one of the gorgeous cotton shoulder bags. These hand-sown shoulder bags are a steal at only $16.96 and perfect for anyone with a hippie or Boho style. There is plenty of room inside the bag, and the rainbow pattern is accentuated by gold threads and an elephant button hand carved from coconut.

The next item I picked out was the Incense and Holder Hanging Set. I always burn incense while I'm writing and I have dozens of incense holders, but you can never have too many, especially when the style is so pretty and unique. Each set comes with two ceramic egg shaped holders that dangle from beaded ropes. For an added touch, they have a ceramic flower, making them the perfect decor for the spring. For $19.99 you get two holders and 6 packs of cone incense in varying scents. A great deal that would make a great gift or a sweet smelling personal indulgence.

For the most part, I would have to give Ezistock a five star review. I love the quality of their products and the respsct they show for their artisans. The only thing that is a bit of a draw back are the shipping prices. I realize the products are coming from Thailand, but it cost around $14 to ship my small package. This was included in the gift certificate, but would have been a bit more discouraging if I were paying out of pocket. Though I have to say, I love the products so much, I would have grumbled under my breath about the shipping costs, but would still have bought the items in the end. The quality of these exotic handmade gifts is really worth the extra expense in the shipping.

When writing of witches in fiction, many have chosen to portray the wand waving hag who lives in a sinister looking cottage in the middle of terrifying woods. Unless, that is, the author wants to write about real Witches. If the latter is the case, then the witchy characters’ physical and psychological traits will be unique and only discernible through the reading of the complete story.

The main character in AlmaMia Cienfuegos: a Story of Blood, Scars and Nightmares, is a nine-year-old girl whose dreams are haunted by things that bleed and rot. If she is not wearing the frog, book and skull charm bracelet she got from her grandmother, the rotting things of her dreams goose-bump AlmaMia’s skin while she is awake.

AlmaMia’s tale brings herbal healing, the blessings of a crone, and the protection of three charms that have shielded the gifted firstborns of the Cienfuegos family for five generations. In the story, AlmaMia is never called a witch, but the wild magic that surrounds the young seer shows everyone exactly who and what she is.

Smoky Mountain Candles Review & Giveaway

I have always loved burning candles. For me, they are not just a way to make my house smell pretty. I love gazing into the flame and feeling the power of the element of fire. I use candles for magic and meditation just as much as I use them home decor. At Smoky Mountain Candles, I found the perfect candles to suit all my needs. Their candles for made from pure palm wax and the finest oils. They come in a wide range of scents that are perfect for any occasion. Their fruity scents and bakery varieties are great to have in the kitchen, but they also have some unique combinations that would be wonderful for meditation.

For my review, I decided on the Witch's Love Spell candle. How could I not pick that one? While this candle has nothing to do with actual witchcraft, it certainly does cast a spell in your home from the second you light the wick. It is designed to smell like Victoria's Secret Love Spell, which is one of my favorite body sprays. I haven't met a man yet who can resist this scent, so its the perfect way for this witch to cast a spell on her hubby. I have been burning the 22 oz jar candle for at least a few hours every day for the last five days, and half the jar is still full. There is no black soot left behind when you blow out the flame, and the beautiful container is also worth a mention. Its crystalline design and secure topper will make it a great place to store herbs once the candle has burned out.

The Witch's Spell is only one example of the unique scents you can find at Smoky Mountain Candles. Some other varieties I would love to try are the Curumba, Firewood, and Pomegranate Cider. But if you prefer the more traditional scents, you can also pick from things like Lavender and Watermelon. All the scents are available in jars and pillars in a variety of sizes. I also love their specialty candles, especially the nautical designs that would be the perfect decor for a shore home. Candles are always a great gift and you can never have too many for yourself. About the Author

Society tries to fit each of us into a mold. Well, it didn't quite work on me, and the truth of it is, I don't know a single person who fits the mold.

If you're like me, you aren't like me, or anyone else. I like to read certain kinds of books, though perhaps not the same kinds of books you like. I like certain kinds of people, though perhaps not the same kinds of people you like. I like to live, love, work, and play in certain ways, though I bet you are quite different.

But we can talk about it. I can learn about you, in fact, I love learning about other people. And you can learn about what I'm all about, if even at a distance. With all of the issues and problems we have today, we can probably agree that we also have fantastic opportunities. Never before in our history could we go to our desk, kitchen table, or to the local library or cafe, push a few buttons on a keyboard and strike up a conversation with someone on the other side of the world, and essentially for free. We all have this great opportunity to celebrate our diversity and expand our views. I don't know about you, but I find that exciting!

So here's my bio. I was born in 1963 in upstate New York. I took advantage of the opportunities I had. I spent summers at our family cottage on Lake Huron, I went to college after attending public high school, I got a job as a paralegal, I fell in love with a woman, and started a family. And somewhere along the way, I found a love of reading and writing. Someone once said that all you ever needed to know to write good stories, you learned in kindergarten, and that's probably true. I hope I never stop writing. There's so much to write about. The only real limit is the hours in a day.

The Cast of Phantom

I had so much fun with the Destiny cast, I had to start one for Phantom. I just picked all these out today with a little help from my twelve year old daughter, but I still think it turned out pretty well. So, here you go. Meet my picks for the cast of Phantom.

Rebecca (Becca) Hope-Allison Miller
Alison was on Terra Nova, which my kids were watching before it got cancelled. Her hair was longer and curlier in that show, which made her look even more like Becca.

Lord Justyn Patko - Robbie Amell
Of course, we need to Goth him up a bit, but Robbie could definitely pull of Lord Justyn. I can even visualize the tribal tattoo around those muscular arms. He was in one of the more recent versions of Scooby Doo, so again, I have to thank my kids for finding him.

Tom Rittenhouse-Jason Dolley
Yes, we watch the Disney channel, and its a good place to find teen actors. Jason is in Good Luck Charlie, and he definitely has the boy next door thing going on. He'd be perfect to play Tom.

Jay Kopp-Calum Worthy
Another pick from Disney, Calum is one of the characters on Austin & Ally. I'm not sure of his name on there, but he's always goofing around, just like Jay.

Carmen Webber-Alyssa Diaz
This Latino beauty looks exactly the way I envisioned Carmen--beautiful, but with a tough edge to her. I found her courtesy of Latino.com.

I had a really hard time finding someone to play Debbie, but finally remembered the star of Hairspray. She can even sing, so she's definitely a great choice.

Tempest/Darlene- Laura "Tempest" Schmidt
Of course, Tempest would have to play herself. No one else could possibly do justice to her artistic dance moves. And since she has been on stage and making belly dance videos for years, I'm sure it wouldn't be that much of a challenge.

Well, that pretty much wraps up the main characters. I thought about doing a soundtrack for this book too, but really, you just need to listen to the Phantom of the Opera soundtrack. That's what I did every single night while I was writing it. LOL So, what do you think of my picks? If you read the book and can think of other actors and actresses who would be a better fit, I'd love to hear about it.

The Cast of the Destiny Series

I think every writer dreams of the day they'll see their books on the big screen. Even if that did happen with Destiny, I doubt I would have much say over the casting. But it's still fun to dream, and to pick out the cast! I have been working on my cast for Destiny since I first started writing the books back in the 90's. I've made changes as new faces have emerged, but there are a few that have stayed the same all these years. Today I thought I'd share by current picks for the main characters in Destiny & Destiny Unveiled. Some of these folks may already be too old to play teenagers, but it's all in good fun.

Gabrielle DiPaola - Nina Dorbrev

I have been struggling with my pick for the lead of Gabriella for years. But finally, thanks to my husband's love of the Sci Fi channel, I have made my decision. He was watching some movie about a werewolf and she was the star. Nina is exactly the way I envisioned Gabriella. She will need some colored contacts for the violet eyes, but I think Hollywood can pull it off.

Darron Zukawski-Evan Williams
Having a tween in the house has really helped with this task. I saw this guy in an episode of "Victorious" and I knew I had finally found my Darron. Looks like he has only had a few small roles, but I want to give him his big break as the male lead in Destiny.

Monte Holden - Andrew DiPalma
Believe it or not, this handsome young man is my baby cousin. He has been doing pretty well on the acting scene with some small roles in movies like "We are Marshall" and most recently, a hilarious part in an episode of "Cougar Town". He just turned thirty, so we always joke that they need to hurry up and make Destiny into a movie before he's too old to be in it. Flora Zarfati-Heather Matarazzo
My daughter definitely had a hand in finding Heather. She loves the Princess Diaries, and Heather played Mia's best friend. While I had to stereotype such a great actress into the dorky best friend role, she is definitely fitting for that part.

Richard Hodge-David Bowie

I always knew I wanted David Bowie to play Richard. He was the right look, and even the sexy British accent. And we all know he has that dark side to him after his amazing portrayal of the Goblin King in "The Labyrinth". On a side note, Richard name was originally Gunther, but I decided to change his name after meeting one of the insurance underwriters I worked with from Lloyds of London. He wasn't an evil warlock or anything, but he did have a hot British accent.

Adelaide DiPaola - Laura Bonariggo
I grew up watching "One Life to Live" with my grandmother, and Laura played one of my favorite characters, Cassie Carpenter. I always thought she was so beautiful when I was a little girl, so of course she would be my first pick to play the role of Gabby's mom.

Hugh DiPaola-Kevin Sorbo
I have always been a huge fan of Kevin Sorbo ever since he was on Hercules (I know my dorkiness is showing again), so I had to squeeze him into the cast somewhere. He's definitely too old play a teen, but I decided he'd be perfect for Gabby's dad. But maybe that's just because I want to see him in his underwear...

Linda Holden - Cassie DePaiva
Cassie is another One Life to Live star (I am so sad that they cancelled it). She is not only a fabulous actress and amazing singer, she's also a really nice lady. I have an aunt with Downs Syndrome who adores Cassie, and she sent her a personal letter in her own handwriting, as well as a bunch of signed photos. It will also be really cool to reunite Cassie and Laura because they played cousins on One Life To Live.

Donna Brown-Sarah Alexander
If you've seen Stardust, you might recognize Sarah Alexander as one of the three witches. I chose her to play Donna because she actually has similar features to the real Donna (on the right), and the same small, pixie like stature. I would want her to darken up her hair for the role, but aside from that, she's perfect. Donna is one of my best friends and coven sisters. She is also the one who encouraged me to make Destiny a series, so it only seemed fitting to make her a character.

Miranda Brown-Elizabeth Gillies
Miranda has an attitude from the second she comes on the scene, and Elizabeth Gillies has experience with attitude. She plays one of the characters in "Victorious" and I don't think I ever saw her smile.

Of course, there are other characters who I'd like to cast, but I didn't want to make this post go on forever. These are the main characters. Most of them are in both books, except for Donna and Miranda who make their first appearance in Destiny Unveiled. I really don't watch much television or movies, so finding suitable actors is harder than you might think.

The Destiny Soundtrack

When I was writing Destiny and Destiny Unveiled, I was working at an insurance company with my good friend and unofficial editor, Erin Coffey. Erin and I used to proof read a chapter together each day after hours. After spending a day dealing with a bunch of angry and obnoxious clients (some of which became characters in Destiny), making fun of my typographical errors was therapeutic for us. I still laugh at her side comments on my original manuscripts. Things like, “Um, are you sure you want Darron toying his hoagie? That sounds a little dirty.” LOL

As we were reading, another thing that we did was create a soundtrack for the Destiny series, in the hopes that the books might someday be made into a movie. There were a few songs I already had in mind, but Erin was an essential part of picking out the full soundtrack. So I had to give her some credit, especially since we spent literally hours proof reading together. Now, this soundtrack is probably going to show our age. Erin and I, in addition to being co-workers for years, are also proud alumni of the Wildwood Catholic graduating class of 1994. Most of the songs we picked are ones that were popular in our high school and college years. So without further ado, here is the soundtrack for the Destiny Series.

Disc One - Destiny

Do You Believe In Magic - The Lovin' Spoonful - Yes, this song is almost too cliché, but it just fits so well because the very first question posed to my heroine is whether or not she believes in magick. I can see the opening credits rolling as this song plays, leading up to Gabby and her friends at their lockers.

So She Dances – Josh Groban – It may be true that Josh Groban is the only man alive I would actually consider having an affair with, but that’s not the only reason he’s on my soundtrack. This song would work wonderfully in Chapter 6 when Darron meets Gabriella’s mother for the first time.

I Can’t Get Next to You – Annie Lennox This song was destined to be in the coffee house scene in Chapter 12, a scene where Gabrielle and Darron get into a heated argument. It has a nice beatnik beat that would fit a coffee house theme, and the lyrics are perfect for this pair of star crossed witches.

“I can turn the grey sky blue

And I can make it rain whenever I want it to

And I can build a castle from a single grain of sand

And I can make a ship sail on dry land

But my life is incomplete and I'm so blue

'Cause I can't get next to you”

My Destiny– Kathleen McPee This is my favorite song in the whole soundtrack. It would play in the background during the dance scene. I can see the circles of light swirling as Gabby and Darron gaze into each other’s eyes Just listen to the video below, and if you read the book, you’ll know why I love it so much. It’s more than just a track on the soundtrack. It’s the official Destiny theme song.

Lullaby - Josh Groban Yes, Josh is back again. I admit it. I’m a Gronbanite. But can you think of a better man to sing at a funeral? Yes, someone is going to die, but you’ll need to read the book to see who doesn’t make it to the sequel.

Underneath My Clothes– Shakira I think the title of this song speaks for itself. I picked this ballad for a love scene because I like that it’s told from the point of view of the woman getting all that she knows she deserves.

Oh, Ho Ho, Its Magic– Pilot This is the closing song for book number one. But don’t think that just because it’s a little upbeat, that everything turns out okay. Obviously, there are still going to be issues to resolve or we wouldn’t have…

Disc Two - Destiny Unveiled

Graduation (Friends Forever)– Vitamin C Okay, so I told you I’m a dork from the nineties. But you have to admit, this is the perfect opening song for a high school graduation scene. Although Erin did threaten to kick my butt if I ever played this tune anywhere near her.

Miami – Will Smith I am nothing if not diverse, so we have to throw a little Will Smith into the mix. When the gang’s plane arrives in Miami, I can imagine this song playing as scenes from all the Miami hot spots flash by.

Magic – Colby Caillat This would be the beach scene, and these lyrics totally sum up Gabriella’s feeling for Darron.

“You've got magic inside your finger tips

Its leaking out all over my skin

Every time that I get close to you

your makin’ me weak with the way you

look through those eyes”

Brain Stew– Green Day There is one scene in Destiny Unveiled where Darron really loses control, and this song comes as close as possible to describing his emotions at that time. Of course since this is a YA book, we would have to bleep out a few curse words...

I Feel the Magic– Belinda Carisle – This one Erin hand picked out for me, mostly because she got really sick of me singing Yo Ho, Ho Its Magic all day. I had never heard it before, but I knew it was perfect. It really helps tie things up in the final chapters.

It’s the End of the World – R.E.M. – This would be the closing credits, and I definitely think it hints that there is more to come…and guess what they’re will be….

Destiny’s Path (tentative title), the third book is the Destiny series is well underway, and will be dedicated to Erin to thank her for all her hard work. Time for us to start planning the next soundtrack! In the meantime, I still have these soundtracks in my car. Yes, I actually made CDS and listened to them every single day at work the whole time I was writing the books, much to Erin’s displeasure. I know. I’m such a dork… In closing, I just want to thank my friend Erin Coffey one more time, for her help in the soundtrack selections, for her unwavering support, and of course, for not killing me the 66^th time I belted out “Miami” while she was trying to work. I’m really not very good at rapping…Love you Erin!!
