Elf on the Shelf Ideas Week | Day 7

2014-11-30T11:03:00.000-06:00

Today is the final day of Elf on the Shelf Ideas Week! (Stay strong friends, stay. strong.)

We've seen a lot of adorable elves that, for the most part, have been behaving themselves. I think we need to take a look at a few elves who are a bit less well mannered (nothing too racy... this IS a PG blog after all!).

Naughty Elves

our elf also has a shoe fetish... he likes to put ours on the chandelier!

oh the many uses of washi tape...

swinging from...underwear...

they made a hallway into a tunnel too!

gift wrapped table... clever!

who can resist cake?

awe... he made lunch & wrapped it with love!

LOTS of cute ideas that your elf could implement HERE & HERE too!

too far?

Let's change subjects then, shall we? Are you a DIY'er? If so, here are some great costume ideas you could tackle this very second!

DIY

elf sized bowties!

a skirt for the ladies! this is the one our new girl is sporting!

another skirt option (girls LOVE options!)

look at these fancy duds!

if you crochet, you could even make a brand new elf!

cape from HERE

And for all my local A&M fans... OMG!

There are no DIY details, but it's a good jumping point!

Saying Goodbye

Saying goodbye is never easy. Some break ties with a lovely long letter or a big sparkly party, others prefer the bandaid method, leaving only a quick note if anything at all. Here are some ideas to help make the departure less painful.

All packed up & ready to move on out!

Other ideas:

Farewell breakfast (like the arrival one from Day 1)

Leave a holiday book

Scavenger Hunt (find hidden notes & treats)

Deliver Christmas jammies

or just a simple note spelled out on the counter

Hope you found Elf on the Shelf Ideas Week helpful! Have a fun season with your elves & family!

These mission cards are cute for the younger crowd!

Elf on the Shelf Ideas Week | Day 5

2014-11-28T10:39:00.000-06:00

Happy Black Friday and welcome to Day 5 of Elf on the Shelf Ideas Week!

Today we're going to tackle 'interactive' fun with your elf. As we learned yesterday, there can be no touchy-touchy of the elf or they'll lose their magic, BUT, you can still have lots of fun!

Games & Activities...

I Spy Ornament

You could also use a mason jar or plastic containers!

Maybe leave a large version for the kids to play...

Okay, this is obviously a Halloween game, BUT, you could easily adapt for Christmas, just swap out the white paper for red or green! (And no spiders please!)

Hide & Seek

He could hide ornaments, candy canes, etc. Just let the kiddos know how many are hidden and off they go!

Remember all those Magic Seed ideas from Day 2?
These fit perfect into the 'interactive' category!

Random Acts of Kindness Challenge

What a great way to show your kids what the season is all about!

Also, did you know that Kindness Elves are a thing?

make your own | printable cards | ideas

Still looking for more games? They also sell games such as these:

Elf on the Shelf Hide & Seek Game

Elf on the Shelf Naughty or Nice Game

plus puzzles, activity books, etc.

Love Notes...

Bathrooms are popular note leaving locations!

*giggle*

uh oh!

more uh-oh!

See you tomorrow for Day 6!

Elf on the Shelf Ideas Week | Day 4

2014-11-27T09:03:00.000-06:00

Happy Thanksgiving to my fellow Americans! Be sure to love on all those special people in your lives and reflect on all the little things you have to be thankful for!

NOW, back to our Elf on the Shelf Ideas Week! But FIRST, a little PSA.....

Lost Magic...

Are you aware, that your elf can LOSE his magic?! It's true... one little touch from a child and *poof* GONE!
Thankfully, there is a way to restore it.

PHEW! Disaster averted!

I think kisses are allowed though.....

Next up....

Wait... make sure there are NO CHILDREN reading over your shoulders!

Safe?

Okay, you may proceed!

Elf Hacks...

If you aren't happy with the natural shape and movement (well, lack there of, really) of your elf, you can make some alterations to kick things up a bit. (He won't feel a thing, I promise!)

All images are clickable - taking you to the original post when possible.

Elf on the Shelf Ideas Week | Day 3

2014-11-26T15:38:00.001-06:00

Today is Day 3 of Elf on the Shelf Ideas Week!

Tomorrow, in the US, we celebrate Thanksgiving! If you tune into NBC (9am EST) to watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, you'll see a familiar Elf floating down the parade route! If your elf will be around for the big day, you can even deck him out for the occasion with this super cute costume idea that could whip up today!

After all that Turkey Day fun, you're going to have one tired elf! He's just might need a little R&R.

Relaxing...

Getting Techy...

On Strike...

I know YOUUUUR children are never naughty, but just in case...

Elf on the Shelf Ideas Week | Day 2

2014-11-25T09:09:00.001-06:00

Welcome to Day 2 of Elf Week!

In our house, Jack (the elf), comes back for the holiday season as soon as we put up our Christmas tree, which is typically the day after Thanksgiving. Although he's been known to arrive late on occasion (aka slacker mom). For others, December 1st seems to be a popular kick off date. Whichever date you choose though, kick it off with a bang!

I'M BAAAAAACK!

busting out of a package...

parachuting in...

breakfast party...

treat bar...

spelt out...

Hanging with friends...

Hidden (or Trapped?!)...

Magic Seeds delivery...

SNOWMAN seeds!

Redecorating...

he's handy with construction paper!

(this is a favorite in our house!)

and who doesn't giggle at underwear?!

or at a light toilet!

or wrapped in paper!

bows are always festive in the bathroom...

or in the kitchen!

or even on a door!

speaking of doors... maybe one of his own!

i haz died and gone to heaven!

Off to dream about that birthday tree full of balloons! Pop back in tomorrow for more goodness!

Elf on the Shelf Ideas Week | Day 1

2014-11-24T12:02:00.002-06:00

Welcome to the Week of the Elf! Each day, I'll post some fun ideas for those of you who are elf-smitten!

To some, it isn't the Christmas season without a visit from the Elf (on the shelf, that is)... some are visited by innocent elves who leave sweet notes, some have mischievous elves who hang from the chandeliers and rummage in the fridge! I've even heard about some houses who have X-rated visits from their elves! (Shocking, right?!) Well, whatever flavor your elf is, I hope you find some of the ideas and antics helpful!

I Mustache You a Question....

or a sneaky 'staching...

or in a letter...

on a photo...

oooh or better yet, a mustache (or 2) in a photobooth!

Getting the munchies...

what color is YOUR milk?

cinnamon rolls, up! (elf sized!)

or some cookies!

drinks to wash them down!

healthy fun...

and less healthy fun...

who can resist snowcones or snowmen!

Goofing with toilet paper...

Hanging around...

on chandeliers...

harry potter style...

from underwear...

from a slinky...

from the fan...

Getting crafty...

Are those some creative ideas or what?!

I'll be back tomorrow with MORE elfy goodness!

A Mother's Prayer

2013-06-11T07:37:00.001-05:00

I absolutely adore this touching yet hilarious "Mother's Prayer" by Tina Fey from her book, Bossypants.
(note: do NOT read if you have a beverage in your mouth...)

First, Lord: No tattoos. May neither Chinese symbol for truth nor Winnie-the-Pooh holding the FSU logo stain her tender haunches.

May she be Beautiful but not Damaged, for it’s the Damage that draws the creepy soccer coach’s eye, not the the Beauty.

When the Crystal Meth is offered,

May she remember the parents who cut her grapes in half

And stick with Beer.

Guide her, protect her

When crossing the street, stepping onto boats, swimming in the ocean, swimming in pools, walking near pools, standing on the nearby subway platform, crossing 86th Street, stepping off of boats, using mall restrooms, getting on and off escalators, driving on country roads while arguing, leaning on large windows, walking in parking lots, riding Ferris wheels, roller-coasters, log flumes, or anything called “Hell Drop,” “Tower of Torture,” or “The Death Spiral Rock N’ Zero G Roll featuring Aerosmith,” and standing on any kind of balcony ever, anywhere, at any age.

Lead her away from Acting but not all the way to Finance.

Something where she can make her own hours but still feel intellectually fulfilled and get outside sometimes

And not have to wear high heels.
What would that be, Lord? Architecture? Midwifery? Golf course design? I’m asking You because if I knew, I’d be doing it, Youdammit.

May she play the Drums to the fiery rhythm of her Own Heart with the sinewy strength of her Own Arms, so she need Not Lie With Drummers.

Grant her a Rough Patch from twelve to seventeen.

Let her draw horses and be interested in Barbies for much too long,

For Childhood is short -- a Tiger Flower blooming

Magenta for one day --

And Adulthood is long and Dry-Humping in Cars will wait.

O Lord, break the Internet forever,

That she may be spared the misspelled invective of her peers

And the online marketing campaign for Rape Hostel V: Girls Just Wanna Get Stabbed.

And when she one day turns on me and calls me a Bitch in front of Hollister,

Give me the strength, Lord, to yank her directly into a cab in front of her friends,

For I will not have that Shit. I will not have it.

And should she choose to be a Mother one day, be my eyes, Lord,

That I may see her, lying on a blanket on the floor at 4:50 a.m., all-at-once exhausted, bored, and in love with the little creature whose poop is leaking up its back.
“My mother did this for me once,” she will realize as she cleans feces off her baby’s neck.

“My mother did this for me.” And the delayed gratitude will wash over her as it does each generation and she will make a Mental note to call me. And she will forget.

But I’ll know, because I peeped it with Your God eyes.

Amen.

perfect, right?!
