We've had a lot of sunny frosty mornings around here lately and I love it. I will absolutely take the sunny cold over the raining grey that's a little warmer any day. Here's an image I took early on in this stretch of weather we've had since we really don't have any color rich leaves lying around anymore.

I love holiday mini shoots! I think kids like family photography in mini form too! Check out the great smiles on this family's recent mini shoot.

Since they're a growing family, we set up a few of these shots to celebrate the new Mr. too.

I loved these pictures and think either would make a super fun picture to use on a Christmas card.

For the Love of Fall | Fine Art Photography

I love the fall colors, and now all the beautiful leaves have fallen, but I wanted to share this great picture. I was capturing some of the lovely fall colors when I noticed something... and when I zoomed in with my camera, I knew I had to get a closer look. I had to find my way around some shrubbery into an area I'm pretty sure was off limits, but it was well worth it for what I found. A lovely little heart in this bright yellow leaf with the perfect background of the firey red orange leaf behind it.

I had a great time with the Smith family in the beautiful fall colors. The kids were bribed with a trip to the carosel after if they were good, but honestly I don't think that was even needed, they were so great! Either way they definitely earned their reward!

Ghost Toast

I thought of one more new Halloween food idea on my own, and I think that's my limit... perhaps for a few years even. Anything else I do this year (and future years?) will be a repeat or an idea found online.

Of course, this was an easy one: french toast + ghost cookie cutter = Ghost Toast. The kids wanted other Halloween shapes after their intial ghosts, but of course it's all about the name.

For a clean display and to make my white ghosts stand out on my white plate, I syruped the plate
then added the pre-sugared ghosts on top to keep the white sugar out of the syrup background.

Spider Soup

Halloween means a few "spooky dinners" for my kids and this year I actually came up with a new one all on my own!

Spider Soup
We have many variations of "nacho soup" in our family, nacho being the magic word to get the kids to eat any Mexican-esque soup, or basically anything with beans of some sort in it, from white bean to black. For this one I went with a bloody (tomato) base with maggots (rice) and flys and beetles (black beans) stuck under a big spiders web (sour cream with milk to thin for piping on) and a great big spider on top. I cut the spider out myself from tortillas and used Halloween cookie cutters to make additional spooky homemade tortilla chips. Cheese is an important part of any "nacho" soup but since I wanted to see the maggots and bugs and wanted a flat surface for the web, I went with a slice in the middle instead of shredding it on top.

Mark + Tiffany Wedding

Mark and I went to school together starting from grade school.
Tiffany and I were friends through a summer camp we went to many years running.
Years later Mark and Tiffany meet and in August I had the pleasure of photographing their wedding. So fun! Thanks Mark and TIffany for including me in your special day. It was really great getting to catch up with you both!

Liberty House Champions for Children Luncheon

Recently the non-profit organization Liberty House, a child abuse assessment center, held their annual Champions for Children Luncheon. It was a great opportunity to learn more about their mission and how much they help the community. Here are a few of the photographs I took of the event. I recently had the opportunity to work with a great new orthodontist in Salem. Dr. Cole Johnson opened his new office, Johnson Family Orthodontics, in South Salem and let me tell you, it is cool. Not to be outdone by his own office, Dr. Johnson himself is not only cool but one of nicest guys I've met. And funny. That guy can really make you laugh! Jeb + Hannah Wedding

It's time to catch the blog up! I had a ton of fun with Jeb and Hannah and loved their bright, happy wedding colors! Since I was so busy that I let the blog take a back seat for a while, these images aren't new to them the way I typically like to give sneak peaks here first, but I hope you all enjoy their beautiful wedding at the Portland, OR LDS Temple and their reception in the Dye House on the beautiful grounds of Salem's Mission Mill Museum.

Busy Busy

As always, it's been a super busy summer, but the end of the summer became downright crazy. I don't remember a time since college that I felt so busy! So there will be several posts coming up, but in the meantime, here's one of the new activities adding to the busy summer : I got certified to scuba dive! My husband was certified as a young teen but hasn't been back since then and wanted to get back into it. I feel like scuba has taken over here. We're now both Advanced Open Water divers, dry suit certified and nitrox certified. Later this month we're going down to Califonia's Channel Islands for a 3 day live-aboard boat trip. Super exciting!

Thanks to my husband for taking these two pictures, that's me on the left during my last certification dive back in June.

And while we were underwater this Lion's Mane jellyfish came by right at the surface and he got this great picture. Watch out for these suckers, they sting and have hundreds of tenticles that are pretty much see-through at the end. The big ones we saw had tentacles as long as 20 feet or more, but they can get even bigger. For you literature lovers out there, don't worry, they don't kill as portrayed in the Sherlock Holmes story The Adventure of the Lion's Mane.

Cherry Blossoms | Fine Art Photography

Here are some lovely cherry blossom pictures I took a couple weeks ago. I'm sad that most cherry trees have already lost their blooms, they just don't stick around long enough! I have three more cherry blossom photographs that can also be seen over in my Nature Gallery.

I've already purchased a print of this one for myself, tightly cropped in on the left blossom, to include
in a wall collage of macro flowers all cropped square and done in black and white. It looks great!

John + Manita Wedding

I had such a great time with John and Manita. The love was palpable and Manita really knew how to work it! And I'm so glad she made the choice to meet in the Plaza in front of the Oregon State Capitol building with all the cherry trees gorgeous in bloom! Congratulations John and Manita!

i {heart} faces "Wind"

This week's i♥faces theme is wind.

I discovered a few things in contemplating this theme:

1. As the mother to 3 boys, my personal work is not filled with flowy blowing hair.
2. My professional work has apparently not encountered much wind, nor do we really get that much wind here compared to other places I've lived.
3. Even when we go to the beach where there's lots of wind, I still have boys and the cold Oregon beaches inspire the use of hats anyway.

Thus, I'm going with this rare self-portrait of my husband and I atop the Columbia River Gorge where it is always very windy. In fact, it felt like we were going to be blown off the cliff here.
