What parents say about “Raising Healthy Daughters in Mind Body Spirit”

This was brilliant. I would like to say a big thank you to the presenter – although my daughter is still young, the sound guidelines and tips and tricks provided should assist me is helping my daughter through the turbulent teen years in a more positive and healthy way. What more could I have hoped for from a course. I would take this again and would recommend it to all people with daughters.

This workshop was very beneficial and especially gave some great, concrete and practical ideas for raising ‘healthy daughters’. The highlight for me was definitely being given the very specific ideas to try at home/in conversation and the ‘areas’ to think about. Leslie seems to have a lot of helpful information and knowledge, as well as sincere caring about the holistic health of our girls. I really appreciate her giving her time to help educate us. Great workshop!

I really enjoyed the class on raising daughters. I would go again and I would recommend it to a friend. I only wish it was longer or even a series because there was so much information, that I would have liked to have had more time to discuss. I was happy to get two hours, but it made me hunger for more!

Loved it. Great summary of issues and then practical ways to deal with these issues. Leslie is very engaging and spoke well.

Very interesting, insightful, well presented. Good level of interaction. Excellent speaker with so much empathy.

I enjoyed it and it was very interesting. I have two daughters and will be definitely going home and sharing a lot of what I learned.

Very invigorating, it made me feel good and I left with a feeling that I can do this –Raise a healthy daughter.

Very well presented and structured. I like the combination of theories and anecdotes/statistics, and some practical solutions. I am glad I came.

Very good workshop with a lot of tips and concrete ideas of how to raise our daughters.

It is so good to hear that other Moms have the same issues.

Very inspiring!

Dr Michelle Wright MBChB MRCGP DRCOG DCH

Michelle Wright is a British-trained General Practitioner (GP). She graduated from Bristol University Medical School in 1997 and first worked in hospital medicine as part of her General Practice training. This included time working in both Adult and Child Accident and Emergency Departments in a large London hospital. Michelle later worked as a GP in a busy inner-city London practice before moving to Switzerland in 2004. She is a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners, England.

Because of her special interest in child health, Michelle has taken a postgraduate diploma in Child Health from the Royal College of Paediatricians, England. To deepen her knowledge in Women’s Health to help in her work as a GP, she has also achieved a diploma from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, England.

Since moving to Switzerland, as well as her work with HealthFirst, Michelle is a regular contributor on World Radio Switzerland and has a weekly medical show called Health Matters. She also works as a Medical Author, including writing information leaflets about health topics for the general public on the website patient.co.uk.

Currently working as a doctor in the Staff Medical Service for the International Labour Organisation in Geneva, Michelle keeps up her clinical medical practice. Her work there includes carrying out medical examinations, helping with staff health queries, dealing with any emergency medical situations and staff health promotion.

As her professional career has evolved, Michelle has developed an interest in health education and this can be seen through the work that she does today. Observing through her own practice that ‘prevention is better than cure’, she is also a strong advocate for health promotion and disease prevention. She has had particular success in running groups to help people lose weight in Geneva.

Working as a doctor, Michelle has had first-hand experience of numerous medical emergencies. She is able to draw on this experience as a foundation for delivering First Aid training today.

Dr Penny Fraser MBBS BSc (Hons) MRCS (Eng)

Penny Fraser is the mother of two busy little girls aged 3 and 5, and a British-trained surgeon. She has always had an interest in emergency medicine and the provision of First Aid to the general public. During her medical training at St Mary’s Hospital Medical School, London, she was a volunteer for St John’s Ambulance LINKS unit, providing First Aid during various public events, including international rugby matches at Twickenham, the London Marathon and numerous West End shows.

She qualified as a doctor in 1999 and then further specialised as a surgeon, with a particular interest in emergency and plastic surgery. Her first line experience includes Accident and Emergency Medicine (inner city and suburban departments), Trauma and Orthopaedics for adults and children and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, including burns.

On moving to Geneva in 2004, she gained further experience of trauma and injuries from road traffic accidents, skiing and other sports working in the Centre D’Accueil et D’Urgences at the Hôpital Universitaire de Genève until the arrival of her first daughter.

In addition to her work with HealthFirst, Dr Penny Fraser is a freelance medical writer and broadcaster. She is a regular author for The New Stork Times, a parenting source for Switzerland (www.thestork.ch) and has also contributed to many programmes on World Radio Switzerland, including Health Matters, Dig It and Kids in Mind.

Dr Penny Fraser and Dr Michelle Wright are founder members of the Anglo-Swiss Medical Society, an international support network for Anglophone medical professionals living and/or working in Switzerland. The aims of the society are to foster a cultural understanding of medical care in Switzerland and how it is delivered as well as to facilitate the integration of society members into the Swiss healthcare system.

If you think that I get a lot of money doing this blog, oh, I can assure you that I don’t. I’m still doing this blog as a hobby and have been paying everything from my own pocket (Thank goodness that I work and can use my own salary, so no conflict with hubby so far ). Paid advertisement started to flow in earlier this year, and I am very thankful that now at least I almost paid off what I have spent.

So yep, I want to use this post to thank those wonderful people who have been kindly supporting LausanneMom.com.

Confetti Box, run by Estelle, offers adorable and affordable party supply for kids’ birthday. The offers range from balloons to hats to pinata to blowout to candles. Very fast shipping (oh yeah, I tested it).

Carmen from BYouCoaching offers personal coaching and workshops for parents and children. I have heard wonderful testimonial from a participant of her workshop, so better be there on the next workshop!

And who doesn’t know Babyzou (yet)? My personal favorite for baby stores around — not a surprise as it’s conveniently located only 5 min on foot from my apartment . But not only for me, I guess. As far as I know, Babyzou is the easiest baby store to reach by public transport from Lausanne, as it’s located directly opposite the metro station Croisettes. And they recently launched their Baby Registry, so if you’re expecting a baby, you may want to take a look at it (click here).

I received the following info today. I have enrolled my daughter (almost 2) to this program as I have heard good feedback from parents who had brought their children there. I think she will have a great time!

I have Kindermusik courses staring in September. Kindermusik classes are full of musically inspired activities and are for children to attend with a parent or other caregiver. I hope to start with four classes, details below, and would love to hear from anyone interested in enrolling. I am happy to offer a free trial class to any interested families.

KidSpace, Lausanne, Wednesdays or Fridays
9.30, Our Time, for children 18 months – three years
10.30, Village, for children up to 18 months
Courses starting throughout September.

The classes are conducted in English but use all types of music and children do
not need to speak English to enjoy the programme.
All classes are 45 minutes long and the programmes vary in length depending on
which class it is.

If you would like further details please contact me.
