I've been holding onto a couple of these for a week. It's a pain to re-size everything so I tend to do it in groups. Also after this set, there should be a new group of speed paintings out soon. Just need one more to complete the set. So far this year is shaping up amazingly!
I've been a big fan of Dylan Cole for a while now and after watching some of his tutorials again I wanted to try my hand at my own tropical paradise. I came up with something similar in concept, but different enough to call my own and spent the last week or so hammering it out. I have to say compared to Last Bastion, this was a snap as I established what I wanted with a color stu...

Been painting quite a lot the past few days and came up with a new batch of speed paints each ranging from an hour and a half to two and a half hours. My goal with these was to stay as fast and loose as possible. It helps keep things organic and mistakes can lead to interesting effects. In comparison to paintings where ...

So I was browsing along various stock imagery and came across an image that suddenly struck me as exactly what I was looking for to do this concept. While it didn't have any kind of mountains, it had the right perspective and rolling plains I was looking for. You can see the original plate in the link on the portfolio page. The name for the piece came from a line in the story where the main charac...

This year is winding down already and quite a bit has been accomplished. Got this site up and running which was needed badly along with getting more work out than I did last year. Over the weekend I decided to get working on the first concept for my story. Initially I started to create a piece and really had no idea where I wanted to go with it. I also started to use real textures way too soon and they just didn't mesh well with the piece anyway. So I decided to go and g...

For sometime now I've been working on creating a story off and on. I could really say it all started in middle school with creating a cheesy little comic about a super dog. Eventually it gave way to more complex ideas and over the years it refined itself from just an idea to a story I wanted to write.

The initial version had a strong opening but I really had no idea where I wanted to take the story. It was then I realized that I didn't want to just create a story, I wanted to cre...

With a week off I was able to put some time into painting. My goal was to do a few quick speed paints for practice doing things I haven't really tried before. Each one took between one to two hours. For Futurescape while I did just do a city I haven't done a matte city where I take whats there and try to make it more sci-fi.<br /...

I've been working on this piece on and off for about two months now and am rather happy to finally finish a city piece. I've wanted to try one for quite some time and have a bunch of failed attempts in folders. I decided in the end to go for a semi-realistic look rather than spending countless hours rendering out each building. Doing something like that would leave me most certainly hating the piece by the end of it. If I do go for a photo-realistic piece in the future I'll use a real city for t...

It's been some time coming but version 4.0 of the site is finally here. Version 4.0 features a working news section, easily edible css framework, cleaner code built for HTML5, includes for extremely simple link editing, and of course some fancy smancy css3 animations (which aren't visible even on IE 9 sadly...). Facebook comments will probably also be integrated into the news section at some point and a greater focus on social media with exclusive previews of new work coming out. The old site ha...
