		Ivanhoe Saved From Laminitis & Cushings

Horse Name and Age: Rosette, 19 yrs old

Rosette is my 19 year old Thoroughbred who had taken ill a little over a year ago. She had lost a tremendous amount of weight regardless of how much I fed her. Her chronic colic was also a great concern, for these colic episodes were becoming more and more frequent as time went on.

July 17, 2009 I got Adobe 5 ½ years ago.  I named him Adobe after Harry Carry Jr. That is what the Navajos called him because he had blonde hair.  He had a small sarcoid on his nose that looked like a wart.  I was not too concerned about it, (neither was my vet) until it started to grow two years ago.  He suggested putting Xterra on it.  Within a week of starting that TX, a new sarcoid developed on his side/abdomen area.  That was removed when it was about the size of a small hen’s egg.  I quit the treatment on his nose because he resisted dramatically.  Last year I had a biopsy on the area, and it turned out to be cancer.  The day after I got the recommendation for removal, I got him into the Equine Hospital.  I have seen horses die of Cancer.  After he healed from surgery, he got an eye infection.  Healed from that, then got a hoof abscess.  Then the place behind his eye started to grow.  I had a series of five injections and am in the waiting stage.

I have often suspected if I could get his immune system working well that he would have a much better chance at fighting this.  That is when I introduced the ground flaxseed and garlic.  He is a great little trail horse and takes good care of me.  He is between 15-18 years old and is barefoot.

UPDATE -  Sept. 19, 2009

Adobe continues to improve. I am just so amazed! Remember last week when I said his body looked different, but I couldn’t quite tell what it was? Well, I can really see it this week. His muscle tone is much more defined. My farrier was over on Friday, and he saw it and said, “He looks like a younger horse”. He really dose, I can’t believe it!  And you can see the sarcoid area is much less inflamed.  Isn’t it wonderful? Thanks to you from Adobe and I!

Felic is 25 years old TB Gelding with Cushings, ringbone and possible previous laminits (x-rays show very slight rotation that hasn’t changed in 4 years).  I had been considering putting him down and my farrier suggested bar shoes & pads; he previously had just pads.  With the pads and bar shoes, Felic was almost sound; had to put bell boots back on him because he was actually moving again.  He was reset at the beginning of July, and is now back to being unsound.  We think it’s ringbone, as his x-rays have not changed in 4 years. 

He is now getting 2 grams of bute in the morning and ½ of a pergolide.  He became “stoned” and uninterested in food with the whole dose, so we lowered it.   He is also out on pasture all day.

July 30,2009  Felic discontinued taking Pergolide and began on Lisa’s Program. Lisa activated Felic’s DNA.

Dec 25, 2008 – Filly’s immune system bounced back so that she looked brighter and began to have a bit of life to her step

Jan 12, 2009 – Filly is walking much easier and Susie is looking for a good trimmer

Feb 8, 2009 – Filly had a joint cleanse

Feb 10, 2009 – Filly’s leg swelled up a bit due to the detox

Feb 14, 2009 – Lisa gave Filly a Rahseaka Treatment

March 8, 2009 – Filly had another Liver cleanse to further the immune system pufification

March 15, 2009 – Filly is moving and walking much better

April 20, 2009 – Filly had another joint cleanse

May 2009 – Susie found a great trimmer and Filly is responding to a healthy trim very nicely

May 18, 2009 – Filly trotted!

June 20, 2009 – Filly is improving and starting to shed out

July 18, 2009 – Filly cantered for the first time in years!!!  And performed a cutting move on a loose bull on her own!!!

She is feeling Great!!!! And starting to be herself again!!

Still have more healing to do, but is through most of it.  Should be good to ride next spring.

Ann rescued a little Mini named Katy from a “horrible situation of neglect”.  Shortly after she had a little colt named Sunshine. 

The vet wanted to immediately euthanize her, but Ann couldn’t do it, Sunshine needed his mother.  Sherrie, a local bare foot trimmer, has been working very hard to support her tiny, distorted hoofs.

 The vet placed Katy on Banamine and did radiographs.  They also put Katy on Lamina Saver. Katy was receiving massages and Reiki treatments from a friend named Jerry, every two to three days.  Katy’s coffin bone was being supported with Equicast “boots” that Sherrie created on her hooves with inserts of putty.  Katy was on Safe Choice feed because she was lactating and Bermuda hay.  The Vet also wanted her on Bute and she was also on Vitamin E. 

July 8, 2009 – Katy’s bone went through her hoof.

 On July 9, 2009 – Lisa St. John took Katy off all meds, feeds, and supplements.  Lisa placed Katy on her nutrition therapy program along with her herbal feed and is currently giving Katy three Rahseaka treatments a day.

After the first day Katy was more comfortable, three days into the program Ann noticed an improvement while changing the bandage on her sore hoof.  It no longer had an odor to it, and seemed to be healing nicely.

July 11, 2009 Beginning Case Study/In Progress:

Bandera is 22 years old, and I have had her since she was born.

Bandera foundered on green grass about 3 years ago, and gets sensitive each spring and even late August.  I even have to throw out the horse apples that fall on the ground because that triggers it also.

Her back legs have arthritis so that she can barely pick them up to be trimmed.  Also she tends to sweat a lot, and she gets sudsy; looks like she went through a car wash. 

As of July 11th, she was being fed crimped oats, beet pulp, and Cosequine with flax seed.  She also was getting Foxedine for her laminitis. 

July 13, 2009 Amber placed Bandera on Lisa’s Nutrition Therapy program and removed all medications and grains from her diet.

July 25, 2009 Bandera’s shoes were removed. She ran through field kicking up her heels with joy when the shoes came off.  Big smiles!!
