SUCCESS: Is The Energizer Bunny Mocking You?

Are you missing your "spark?" The "thing" that makes you want to get up in the morning and sing? Why is that? What is it that's getting in the way?

The answer is probably DRAINS. One of the definitions of a drain is to exhaust physically or emotionally. Does this sound like what you are feeling? Do you lack the energy, drive, or ambition that you would like to have in one or more areas of your life? If so, it's time to recognize where your drains are so they can be properly exorcised.

How do you identify energy drains? They are the things that leave you feeling unfulfilled, depressed, discouraged, exhausted, hopeless, or passionless. They can occur as a result of employment woes, too many demands, educational pursuits, relationships, health issues, or any other thing or person that touches your life. A very important point to remember is that energy drains are incredibly personal and unique.

Something that is a serious drain to one person could be the ultimate passion for another. Take Helen and Naomi as prime examples of this point.

Helen is a working mom. She gets up at six in the morning, gets herself dressed, and carries her sleeping son into her babysitter's home by seven so she can begin her forty-five minute commute to work each morning. She thinks about Kyle often throughout the day and sometimes has to fight tears as she envisions the things that the babysitter gets to see him do that she ends up missing. She had hoped that by now she would be used to being a career mom, but she hasn't. She can hardly believe that she's been doing this for two years.

Naomi is a stay-at-home mom. She left a very lucrative career to stay at home with her daughter. It's been nine months and she is miserable. Katie is so demanding that Naomi barely manages to get dressed most days and never seems to be able to get anything accomplished around the house until after Katie goes to bed at night. Naomi feels isolated because she was used to the hustle and bustle of her office, but she shies away from spending time with other stay-at-home moms because they seem to enjoy the life that she loathes.

It seems as though Helen and Naomi would each find their passion and eliminate their drains if they could switch places. Short of this ideal situation; let's see what other things they could do to alleviate their drains.

Helen is unhappy because she spends so much time away from her son. If Helen had to keep a full-time job, she could be home for most of her son's waking hours if she found a second shift job working 3:00 until 11:00. If she could make due on a part-time wage, her flexibility would be even greater and perhaps she could work solely during bedtime hours.

If Naomi felt strongly about being home with her daughter, she could start a home-based business and have someone on-hand to provide childcare if it were the type of business that did not allow for distractions. She could also contact her previous employer to see if there is any way that she could still remain involved with the company in a home-based capacity. This way, she does not have to develop new business relationships and will be able to be on hand for her daughter.

In order to change the things that were draining them, in each case, these women had to determine what the problem was, be willing to say NO to the things that were draining them, and decide what solution they wanted to say YES to in its place.

Unfortunately, there are times when we are unwilling or unable to say NO. So, what then? That's when you need to decide how to change your perspective so that you are okay with things the way they are. For example, what if you decide that you want to eat healthier and exercise for weight loss but each time you put yourself on a regimen, your plan completely falls apart, leaving you feeling drained? This might be an ideal situation to determine that you are OKAY with not doing the healthier eating and weight loss program at this time -- perhaps shelving the plan until a later date, or reducing the number of days that you plan on exercising, etc. There are many situations like this in life -- don't let them drain you needlessly.

Ultimately, you are the Captain of your ship. Only you can determine exactly what you can and cannot tolerate. Have you identified your drains? Once you do, you must put plans into action to make your energy drains go down the drain! Be willing to say NO to the things / circumstances / people that drain you and replace them with what you do want. Get rid of your drains today and recharge your batteries for a passion-filled existence.

Have you ever found yourself bored with life, of the “same ol" thing, or the repetition of a job that just does not make your engine rev? Did you know that there are many people plagued with the same challenge? The quest for how to make life more exciting. Surprisingly, the same answer works for those looking for a bit of a change in life, and for those looking to safeguard their lifestyle, in a word – diversity.

Diversification - a word familiar to most successful entrepreneurs; is a rule of thumb for not being caught by surprise. To find many things to invest money in, or different types of services to perform, so that if the bottom falls out of one market, project, or client all is not lost. It is the foundation for “multiple streams of income,” a phrase that has become very popular in the last several years as more and more people search for avenues to make money and build financial security. An example of multiple streams of income is someone who is an actor, a director, a producer, and a writer.

Always having something to fall back on when something else may not pan out. Diversity is an awesome business plan that has kept many people from going bankrupt, not just the wealthy, but small business owners as well. Can you think of someone that has a small business who performs various tasks? What about a virtual assistant that performs book keeping, tax preparation, and customer service for clients? By offering multiple services that will appeal to various clients, it allows income to flow into the business from various sources, so that no one area will dry up leaving the business owner without a single source of revenue.

Diversity works well for business, but can the same principle apply to personal life? Absolutely! Business is not the only road that can become a little stale and predictable. It’s a fresh source of goals, ideas, and challenges that keep wonderful new things flowing in all factions of life. Generating multiple streams of ideas for enriching life is as limitless as you allow. Would you like to pursue a new job opportunity or a new field of study? What about several within the same field that will make you a more valued employee, or a couple of fields of study that will make you more marketable? The beauty of successful stream selection is finding something that you truly enjoy, because things fall into place almost seamlessly when they are a natural fit. So tune into you – your needs, desires, and visions, while deciding on your next stream.

Like most aspects of life, when diversifying, success comes that much quicker when others are asked for their assistance and input. Use your passion as a foundation for assembling a team to help you achieve your goal, and always be willing to act in kind for someone else. It may be their idea that you’ve been asked to collaborate on that brings you oodles of success. Whether it’s your stream or theirs, teamwork may be the added ingredient that will make the stream flow like a mighty river.

So, the next time you’re feeling a bit boxed in and would like to stretch your wings – remember to look at all of your options and to not just settle on one - diversify. Pursue one for now, build it to success, and then move on to the next, and the next, and the next. It is the one true way to always stay on top—by being prepared for a worse case scenario and never having all of your eggs in one basket. So start thinking about what new business you’d like to branch into, the new ideas that will take you on a different path, and the new goals that will bring you closer to your passion. In real estate it may all be about location, but in life and business it’s all about diversity, diversity, diversity.

SUCCESS: Down Economy? WHAT Down Economy?

We are constantly inundated about our “down” economy. With so much focus on what we’re afraid of and given my experience with the Law of Attraction, it is not surprising that so many people are relating to the world right now as scary and unsettled, causing them in reaction to hold tightly to their resources, which only perpetuates the concerns with the economy. There is this crisis-oriented economy—and then there is our own economy and what we choose to create.

The experience of our country’s economic health varies from person to person. For instance, in the midst of this "economy" I had a banner year last year. I am expecting to have another banner year this year. It is clear to me that how I choose to create my present and future will have a direct impact on the results I produce. No question. What is your perception of your present and future and the impact you have on what you attract?

Regardless of the way money is circulating in a country at any given time, there are people who thrive and enjoy their lives and people who struggle and suffer. Even in times of what are considered to be a booming economy, homelessness, starvation, job loss, fear about the future, and depression over non-preferred circumstances still exist and persist. What we have—or don’t have—in our lives has little or nothing to do with our external world. It is directly impacted by our consistency with the messages we communicate to the Universe.

Where is your current focus? What messages are you sending to the Universe? At what frequency (high or low) are you vibrating that has you attracting those things you do (or don’t) want into your life? If you’re not attracting what you want—and also enjoying the process, it may be time to adjust your dial.

It would serve us in creating a massive shift in our economy—beginning with our own lives—to turn our attention to and visualize those things we desire. What fills you up? What sources you? What excites you and has you delighted to wake up each morning? What messages about how the world works and what they can have in their lives do you want to pass on to your children and others who are our future leaders? Are you living your own life in alignment with what you want to pass on? If you’re unsure, take a look at the results you have produced or are currently producing. You’ll have your answer.

As a long-standing coach, it is my experience that my clients create evidence for that which they are looking. For example, if one of my clients is convinced that no matter what they do or how much they move their life forward, the Universe is going to find a way to knock them down, this is what continues to show up for them. On the other hand, if another client is clear that if they keep putting one foot in front of the other, so to speak, remaining focused on their desired outcome, the Universe will bless them, this is what they continue to experience. In other words, they produce results based on their consistent focus, positive or negative.

As human beings, we have the privilege of forming our own thoughts and perceptions of how the world works. Each of us has the opportunity and ability to make the Universe work for us and bring to us our desired results. The questions we must ask ourselves are: Where is my focus? Where do I want to direct my energy today? Is where I have my attention consistent with what I say I want for my life? The Universe listens closely to the messages we send. Yes, we are that powerful!
