Paul Watson has posted eight new photographs from projects in January and February this year.

The first four are from the second (January 2012) Medea series, and represent a growing interest in reimagining mythological characters.

The second four are the initial results of a collaboration with Alice Kemp, of which you’ll be seeing more in the next few months, both in Paul’s and Alice’s galleries.

Françoise Duvivier has started a new project called Dementia Dolls, and she’s sent over seven images from this new series.

The dementia dolls give me a feeling of old rituals, like being reminded of something ancient and buried-but also new and just born? Something beautiful, but hidden, a thing that should be buried in a grave, but has emerged to climb the trees. Strange. Spooky. Like a memory that never goes away, always looking down upon you.

A Smattering of Updates

There are a couple of minor updates I thought you might want to know about.

The Corporate Archives

Firstly, I’ve quickly put together an “Archive” section. This hidden-away section of the website is a repository for various odds-and-ends that have slipped off the main site, but which I’ve decided to keep available due to demand or sentimental nostalgia.

At the moment the only thing in the Archives is the old Lazarus Corporation Text Mixing Desk, our William Burroughs-style cutup generator. A new version of the Text Mixing Desk is currently in development, but you can play with the old one in the Archives while you’re waiting.

New Drawing

Just a quick mention of a new pencil drawing up in my galleries - I’m doing life-drawing once a week again, so hopefully there’ll be quite a few more on their way.

Lazarus Corporation Rebooted

It’s taken some considerable time, but as you can now see the Lazarus Corporation website has been completely rewritten and redesigned.

The previous incarnation (“Version 4”) was designed & developed in 2005 (with earlier versions going back to 1996), and while it had aged reasonably gracefully over the past half-decade, it was time for something fresh.

The new design is built in HTML5 which, strictly speaking, is a technology still under development (and isn’t currently supported by some web browsers), but thanks to a little behind-the-scenes trickery the website should work in all modern browsers.

It’s also designed to work better on smartphones & tablets, although we’re not making any promises until the end of February, after which we’ll have been able to tweak it for those smaller screens.

The new design is—as you’ll have noticed if you’re a regular visitor—cleaner and more “spacious”. We hope this will show off the artwork better - which, after all, is the main purpose of this site. Likewise articles should be easier to read due to better typography.

The discussion forums are on a temporary hiatus, but they’ll be returning later this year, along with a few other new features.
