My beloved readers, I do not have to tell you that I have been around for a while and I have seen it all. Fellow winemakers here in Le Sud de France are tres furieux because Le EU (Now, THAT was a stupid idea, we should all be united as the FU) has decided to let winemakers make white wine and then add a drop of red, to get the pink colour that they want for le vin rose.

This process is not what I do at chez moi, but it has worked very well for le heathens at Gallo, Sutter Home and Jacobs Creek. So, if it makes us better able to compete with the cretins of the New World, then I am in favor. The big guys like Grands Chais will, I am sure, start making their version of le White Zinfandel.

My compatriots should not be so upset with this. If there is one thing that we have all learned, it is that quality, and style win out. If we continue to make our wines with authenticity, focusing on quality and being true to ourselves, then the change in the law doesn’t matter. It is about what we do for ourselves, our wines and our brands that makes them stand out in the global market. So, relaxing an arcane law that allows us, if we need, to be more competitive in the global market is a good thing. After all we don’t want the overlords controlling EVERYTHING we do, do we? Freedom from regulation will allow us all a greater ability to prosper.

I am so sad, as I read about Le Mother Country descending to the ranks of places like America, Canada and heaven forbid, New Zealand. All of those culture-less savages live for today and have no respect for the future. They are the epitome of what is wrong with the third world: They have no industry left and just spend spend spend.

Not like France, we have industry: Le Vin! Le Foie Gras, Louis Vuitton and Hermes. Le Parfumers. We are the capital of all that is fine on this earth. But our government has been bailing our Le Fat Chats, and there is no money left to support our <del datetime="2009-05-20T01:28:41+00:00">ridiculous, bloated, arcane, insular, confiscatory</del> fabulous <del datetime="2009-05-20T01:40:20+00:00">welfare statist</del> social programs. Now there is no le dole money left so all my brethren in Paris and Cannes must now sell Le Petrus and Le Lafite and Le Mouton in order to pay the rent.

It is a sad day for France, it is a sad day for moi. But rest assured that as I single handedly save the French wine business, I pledge that we will soon have a chicken in every pot and a bottle of Romanee Conti on every table. Please, please, join me in saving Le Mother Country.

I also love Bordeaux. It is just unfortunate for them that the are located in such a rough and unwelcoming part of France. I guess it is better than Champagne, where it is so cold that they cannot ripen their grapes- but that is another story.

In any case, my countrymen in Bordeaux have sustained a bit of a natural disaster. I propose a moment of silence and I want them to know that we in Le Languedoc will set aside even more of our wine this year to ship over to them in tanks to make their vin a bit more, how do you say, agreeable.

Thankfully, the Lanesborough had one room left.

Returning to that <del datetime="2009-05-07T22:26:27+00:00">horrible</del> lovely place reminded me of my last trip, and the ride over to #10. I wonder how much they’ve raised duty this month?

RIght now, I am selling all the wine I can make to the Chinese, but I’ll go check out what’s happening in London, maybe the boys over at the COOP or Tesco will take me out to dinner?

You know, the “Land of the Free” and all that. They have something called the First Amendment, but it seems that les peeps in charge forget that. It seems just when they should be worried about resolving issues of torture, indicting the last administration for attacking our friends in Iraq, they are worried about online “bullying”. (I thought that they fired all those little congressmen when they appointed King Obama?)

Anyway, according to this article, idiota Congresswoman Sanchez, from California, wants to make it illegal to upset anyone online….

Therefore, I assume that I’d be behind bars for this little exchange: Do they have a hot tub at Sing Sing?

I am a big fan of New York’s Mayor Bloomberg. He is not only mayor, but he also apparently owns the City. I’ve never met the man, but I am sure that when I finally decide to go to New York, he’ll come greet me at the airport - you know, respect among equals and all that. But this is not about Mr. Bloomberg, it is about an article published by his news organization.

It seems that a Dutch study says half a glass of wine a day is good for the heart, brain, and judging from my own experience, libido. Twice as good as beer, apparently.

Now, they don’t say what happens when you drink three bottles of G—- White Zinfandel, with a couple of the girls before you go out clubbing, but I’d guess it looks something like this.. And probably not so good for the soul, never mind the heart.

I am finding that what I thought was all about my pedigree and unparalleled genes, is really about drinking a bit of vin everyday. Who knew. I’ll have to have a chat with mama beast, who is celebrating her 350th this year.

We all know that it take lots of beer to make great wine, but these guys at Fosters, even with all their beer, haven't been able to make a Franc en le negoc du vin. They've had their derrières kicked by just about everyone in the Australian business, including Constellation, who, I understand, are just a bunch of guys from upstate New York making wine in Australia- How strange is that? But, I will leave that for another day.

Anyway, these Fosters guys have tried to sell wine using Little Penguins, failed at resurrecting the flatlined Rosemount and even started making Lindemans in Africa. I didn’t even know they made wine in Africa!

My sources tell me its all a pile of merde.

So, it is not surprising that after an A$500 million charge, that they are again restructuring. Bonne Chance! They should just throw in the towel and go back to beer - which is the one thing they do well.

Let’s face it, one of my most startling features, besides my dazzling eyes, Aquiline nose and my sleek coat, are my big, beautiful and very pointy teeth. People often ask how I keep them so brilliant and cavity free, especially after all these years.

Well, I always thought it was good genes, but recently I discovered otherwise.
