I’m going to keep this post short for fear of my inner 14 year old girl escaping and ruining my tough guy cred. The Hunger Games Super Bowl trailer is out and it looks sorta good. It shows a lot more of Panem and its old timey scifi feel. It’s slightly Star Warsy, a little Fifth Element-ish and kinda outrageous. I’m pretty sure this trailer gave me hunger pangs.

In case you haven’t heard, Beyonce and Jay-Z released a baby named Blue Ivy Carter. I say released because I’m pretty sure the child is of demonic origin. How do I know this? The satanic ritual that opens a portal between our world and lucifer’s realm requires a lot of space. Why else would the couple need to rent out an entire floor of a maternity ward?

It seems every day that passes brings us one step closer to the fulfilment of the ancient Mayan doomsday prophesy. This godless child will surely be the one to bring about the end of all mankind.

The official 2012 Hollywood award season kicked off on Sunday with the 69th annual Golden Globes (insert obligatory boob joke here). The Globes couldn’t have come soon enough. I needed something to erase the terrible People’s Choice Awards from my mind. Honestly, they aren’t so much People’s Choice Awards as they are Preteen Girls’ Choice Awards. But anyway, back to the Globes.

Everyone’s favourite Brit, Ricky Gervais, was back as host for the third and final time. You may remember him from last year when he ripped into every celebrity in the room and somehow managed to turn a dull affair into a remarkably enjoyable experience. Gervais doesn’t cater to the Hollywood crowd in attendance. Instead, he puts on a show for the public watching from home. It takes courage to go into a room full of celebrities with inflated egos and pop them one by one. Here are a few of this year’s witticisms.

On the Golden Globes compared to the Oscars:

“The Golden Globes are to the Oscars are what Kim Kardashian is to Kate Middleton. Bit louder, bit trashier, bit drunker, and more easily bought—allegedly.”

“Our next presenter is rare. If he gets any more popular, or any more handsome, he’ll be hosting this next year. Here he is – the Cloonemeister General, Georgeo Cloono.”

“Congratulations to all the nominees and all the winners… I hope you enjoy the goody bags and the champagne and the gold. I hope that took your mind off the recession for a little while. Thanks, goodnight.”

My favourite moment of the night came when Gervais Introduced Madonna:

Ricky- “Our next presenter is the Queen of Pop. I’ll give you some clues – she’s always vogue, she’s a material girl and she’s just like a virgin… (coughs) Please welcome Madonna.”

Madonna – “If I’m still a virgin, Ricky, why don’t you come over here? I haven’t kissed a girl in years.”

You read that right. “I haven’t kissed a girl in years” is an actual retort from a fully-grown adult. That’s probably the lamest thing I have ever heard. You know what would have been more clever Madge? Hurling yourself from that balcony in Evita.

It looks like Fox is getting ready to re-ruin Marvel’s Deadpool. But seriously guys, it looks really good, and it’s totally going to be rated R.  According at least to Rob Liefeld and Scott Lobdell (comic guyz).

They’ve got a great director on the movie, they’ve got a great script. I may or may have not seen some sort of test of footage that would blow your mind if you saw it and go holy crap and that’s Deadpool in costume. Katana swords, guns, shooting people’s faces off and making me laugh. And I may or may not have seen something that looks just like that. And you’ve got what would amount to the first R Rated X-Men movie. Because that script is R Rated.

I’m not sure how I feel about Ryan Reynolds potentially reprising his role as Deadpool, but the character may or may not suit him better than The Green Lantern.

Tim Hortons

Tim Hortons is responsible for some of the worst ads on television. I think they’re going for a wholesome, family oriented advertising message, but most of the time it just comes across as awful. It’s not funny, it’s not memorable, it just plain sucks.

Do they use half naked women in their ads because they provide a service to poor desperate nerds? Insulting the intelligence of your entire consumer base seems like a bad idea. And in light of recent events it seems the nerds have finally had enough.

Sasktel -Little Red

You know when you invite someone over to your house and then they won’t leave? This campaign is the commercial equivalent of that. Hey Sasktel, occasionally ads need to be retired. Can you imagine if that lady from Wendy’s was still asking everyone where the beef went?

The not so long lost Olsen sister stars in the upcoming horror picture Silent House. The film was supposedly shot in a single take and in real time. Nothing suspicious about that. It’s not like any (all of them) horror movies have ever lied to us. Anyway, if you like scary house movies this one may be worth your time. But don’t take my word for it.
