And what was not to love? Shopping (including a 20% discount), drinking, dancing and crafting…it was such a fun night with a big crowd. Event photos are below, and were all captured by photographer Kat Harris.

The evening was hosted by the the lovely fashionistas — Jen Pinkston of The Effortless Chic, Catherine Sheppard of The Life Styled and Mara Ferreira of M loves M. How fabulous are these three?

If you’ve ever been to a Splendid Event, you’ll know they’re big on their crafting stations. So I was just thrilled to be asked to work on the DIY station for the Robertson store’s fall event. I collaborated with Jen Johnston of Shop Snug Haven on the craft station, which was designing a set of four Cocktail Napkins. We had the cocktail napkins pre-made, using Splendid fabric, and then selected colorful fabric that could be ironed-on to the napkins (we added heat transfer paper to the back of all the color fabric options). Guests could use a pre-designed stencil we created just for this event, or design their own shapes, cut and iron-on to their cocktail napkin. And let me just say, these ladies got into it! They were all so crafty and unique.

I reached out to talented crew at Botany for the feminine and organic-toned floral arrangements, I’m so in love with out the turned out (as I always am!).

The event was held at the iconic Brentwood Country Mart, which happens to where the very first Pressed Juicery opened shop. Guests could have their book signed by the founders, make their own Pressed Juicery Cocktail via the Juice Bar,  and nibble on delicious snacks by Kitchensurfing chef Tehra Thorp. Botany Flowers provided the beautiful white and green floral arrangements and we brought in a few key furniture pieces from Found Vintage Rentals to help create an inviting space. A few photos of the event are below (photo credit to Yayo Ahumada) – you can see more book launch party photos and a tasty couscous salad recipe using the Roots 3 juice on The Chalkboard Mag.

ENGLISH PEAS + BURRATA + MINT PISTACHIO PESTO http://www.lepartiesugar.com/2014/06/13/english-peas-burrata-mint-pistachio-pesto/ http://www.lepartiesugar.com/2014/06/13/english-peas-burrata-mint-pistachio-pesto/#comments Fri, 13 Jun 2014 14:41:13 +0000 http://www.lepartiesugar.com/?p=1688 There’s something about burrata that makes everything taste better. I usually have it paired with something sweet, like grilled peaches and topped with arugula for a kick. But when visiting one of my favorite LA-based restaurants, I enjoyed it paired with smashed English peas and topped with this incredibly flavorful mint pistachio pesto. It was heaven. And I had to do my best to replicate it…so here is my version – recipe and step-by-step photos below.

Burrata + Smashed Peas + Mint Pistachio // Le Partie Sugar

I hit up my local farmer’s market for these ingredients, but your local supermarket should have all these things. You’ll need a french baguette (sliced into 1/2″ pieces), 4 oz of burrata,  1/2 pound English peas, a bunch of mint, 1/2 cup olive oil, 1/2 cup pistachios, fresh sea salt and black pepper, 2 cloves garlic.

photo Burrata + Smashed Peas + Mint Pistachio // Le Partie Sugar.jpg

First things first, preheat your oven to 450 degrees (this is for toasting the baguette slices in a bit). Next, boil 2 cups of water with 2 tablespoons of butter, and dash of salt. While the water is reaching a boil, shell the peas. Place the shelled peas into the water and boil for 5 – 7 minutes, until bright green. Drain and reserve 1 cup of water. Mash the peas with a potato masher, and add in the reserved water if it looks dry. It should be creamy, not pasty.

Next, combine the mint leaves, pistachios, garlic and salt into a small food processor. Process or crush until coarsely ground. In a steady stream, add the oil and lime juice until the consistency is of your liking. Next (but not pictured), slice your baguette and dab of olive oil onto each slice. Then pop into the oven for 3 – 5 minutes, or until golden brown.

Next up, assembly. First layer the smashed peas on to the toasted crostini. Then add some burrata. Then top with the mint pistachio pesto and a few basil leaves.

I always finish these types of appetizers with a finishing salt, my go-to is a French Gray Sea Salt from Penzy Spices.

To help you get started, I’ve gathered my Top Five favorite egg decorating ideas, from Gold-Leaf-Dipped to Marbleized Eggs using nail polish (don’t you love finding new purposes items you already have!?). My favorite part is all the options result in great pops of color for a Easter brunch centerpiece or festive spring decor. Resource links below the image.

WOODLAND ADVENTURE BIRTHDAY PARTY http://www.lepartiesugar.com/2014/01/28/woodland-adventure-party/ http://www.lepartiesugar.com/2014/01/28/woodland-adventure-party/#comments Tue, 28 Jan 2014 19:42:19 +0000 http://www.lepartiesugar.com/?p=1669 I shared the Woodland Adventure Birthday party invite last week, and now get to share some photos from the party. This party was for my son, and the theme came about because he (A) loves running around our backyard collecting leaves and rocks (B) his two favorite stuffed pals are these guys, and (C) when I asked him what kind of party he wanted he told me a “foxy party”. [Side note: It probably doesn’t help that a certain song about foxes was pretty popular during that month.] But regardless of the reason, it’s safe to say that everyone had a good time. Party details below, and the coordinating party decor materials are in my Etsy Shop.

The party took place in our backyard, where there was a little play area set-up with two A-frame Tents I had custom-made from Etsy Shop, The Sunshine Club. I’m totally in love with the vintage plaid fabrics, and the kids were totally in love with the little hiding spots.  Hanging above the tents was a little multi-patterned flag bunting I made, which added a nice woodland-vibe to the area.

Anyone that has been around a three-year-old (let alone twenty) knows that the key is to keep them busy. So we had a couple activities for them, one of which was a Woodland Adventure Scavenger Hunt. And since one of my son’s favorite activities is going on leaf hunts, that’s exactly what the kids searched for – leaves, river rocks, sticks and pinecones (which I purchased in bulk online, here, and scattered around the yard). I made these woodland-themed canvas totes, and the kids filled one with all the “goodies”, which they took home when they left.

We also had dress-up area by the tents. I had these animal masks and tails made by Etsy Shop, BHB Kid Style. Not only was the quality outstanding, but the kids had a blast playing pretend.

We were so fortunate to also have the incredibly talented indie-kids musician, Kristen Cook, come play for us. She got the kids moving, dancing and playing instruments with her enchanting voice. And to my son’s delight, played “What Does the Fox Say?” for the group. How adorable is she?

But enough with the activities, let’s talk food. Because after all that running and dancing around kids (and adults) worked up an appetite. My goal was to keep the food easy, so I ordered some take-out style boxes and made pre-packaged lunches for all the kids with almond butter sandwiches (in the shape of the number 3), chips, cheese stick and fruit cup. The kid’s meals were set out on small wood tables. To dress up the kid’s tables a bit, I cut faux-bois wrapping paper into a table runner, painted on some animal footprints, then topped with a couple faux plants (from the dollar store!).

I continued down the faux-bois path and found these embossed kraft bags for the utensils – what a total score from Etsy Shop, Lola Loves A Party. I used these utensil bags for both the kids and adults (and always remember to order double forks so you have utensils for the cake).

For the adults we had a table set-up with food catered from one of our favorites spots, Lemonade. There was an assortment of salads and sandwiches that we just transferred from the catering box to the plates. And by “we”, I mean two of my very dear friends who were my right and left hands the day-of the party. The main food tablescape was kept pretty simple, I ordered some wood slabs from here, and stacked those around the table and topped with white serving pieces. I used my Silhouette Cameo machine to die-cut some little animal track confetti and scattered that around the table, along with some pinecones and twigs.

We had a beverage stationed stocked with kid-friendly beverages and adult-friendly sippers (i.e., sangria and beer). And obviously had to get these birch paper straws for station.

I went to my go-to bakeshop, Vanilla Bakeshop, to make this custom wood cake with little mushroom details. I absolutely loved how it turned out, but didn’t anticipate such a warm day in the middle of winter. Unfortunately, the cake started to melt a bit (which is why it looks a little lopsided when we sang Happy Birthday). Luckily it still tasted divine. There were also mini-cupcakes, chocolate chip cookies and custom faux-bois chocolate covered oreos from Etsy Shop, Sweeties By Kim (who knew faux-bois was having such a moment?!).

And while the kids took home their own canvas woodland tote full of outdoor goodies (I’m sure the parents loved me that night!), each family took home some S’mores To-Go, which included instructions for making them in the oven.

Happy Birthday to my favorite little critter, may you never outgrow your adventurous spirit!

BIRTHDAY INVITE // WOODLAND ADVENTURE PARTY http://www.lepartiesugar.com/2014/01/22/birthday-invite-woodland-adventure-party/ http://www.lepartiesugar.com/2014/01/22/birthday-invite-woodland-adventure-party/#comments Wed, 22 Jan 2014 18:36:14 +0000 http://www.lepartiesugar.com/?p=1666 Been working on a little side project, a.k.a., my son’s third birthday party. Last spring, we moved from our city condo to rent a lovely home with a large backyard. My son and I have spent so much time enjoying the backyard, doing leafs hunts, running around playing make-believe with Foxy and Raccoon (his two favorite stuffed animals) and literally chasing fireflies. This makes my Midwest-heart smile a bit, knowing that he gets to do these things in LA.

Anyway, all that background to say that this year’s birthday theme is a Woodland Adventure Party. Embracing his love for the outdoors and his two favorite stuffed pals! Here’s a few photos of the invite, and photos from the birthday party to come soon!

The invite and kit are available in my Etsy shop!

HOLIDAY PARTY FOR SUGAR PAPER http://www.lepartiesugar.com/2013/12/28/holiday-party-for-sugar-paper/ http://www.lepartiesugar.com/2013/12/28/holiday-party-for-sugar-paper/#comments Sat, 28 Dec 2013 20:49:02 +0000 http://www.lepartiesugar.com/?p=1645 This holiday season I had the pleasure (and career highlight!) of working with the lovely ladies of the Los Angeles-based stationery shop, Sugar Paper, to plan their annual Holiday Party. This year was extra special though, because it also marked the 10 year anniversary of the famed shop. Planning started in late September, and the event took place mid-December at their Los Angeles Studio. Delighted to share a few photos from the event, read on for more details and shots. The event was also covered by MSN Glo, you can check it out here.

The studio is located in the back building of a warehouse-chic industrial space. To welcome guests to the event, globe lights glowed from the tops of the two buildings with luminaries lighting the path below. Beautiful vintage doors from Found Vintage Rentals were propped at the entry, slanted inward to usher guests to the party.

We turned the parking lot into a cozy outdoor space, warmed with several heat lamps. Anchoring the space was lounge area framed by an antique wood pergola, all pieces by Found Vintage Rentals. Drapery flowed from the pergola creating a welcoming little gathering spot that was packed throughout the entire event.

On the side was a wood-burning pizza oven, and Urban Oven prepared delicious artisan pizzas all night long. And no party is ever complete without some libations – festive cocktails were freshly served up by the mixologist crew of Pharmacie LA (side note, my favorite planning meetings was when we tasted-tested and curated the drink list for the event!). Guests could balance out the cocktails with gourmet espressos and coffee drinks from the coffee bar, brewed up by the baristas at Longshot Coffee.

And all that was just OUTSIDE! Once inside the space, there was another food station and full bar. Plus, a delightful jazz trio from LA Jazz Bands playing jazz classics into the night.

In true Sugar Paper fashion, we kept to the less is more motto and stuck to a classic black, white and gold color scheme with pops of green. Boxwood wreaths adorned the large warehouse windows, and simple, yet elegant florals by Katie Saffert decorated the tables.

At the end of the evening, guests went home with plenty of Sugar Paper goodies as well as Morning Pick-Me-Ups from Pressed Juicery. It was such an honor to work with the Sugar Paper team and be part of such a milestone celebration!

DINNER PARTY // LET’S GATHER http://www.lepartiesugar.com/2013/11/07/dinner-party-lets-gather/ http://www.lepartiesugar.com/2013/11/07/dinner-party-lets-gather/#comments Thu, 07 Nov 2013 19:23:15 +0000 http://www.lepartiesugar.com/?p=1633 What better way to enjoy good food, drinks and the company of great friends but under the stars? This fall I had the pleasure of co-hosting a Farm-to-Table dinner party with a dear friend. While we did this dinner party just because, this would work beautifully for a Thanksgiving Dinner, Birthday Celebration or even a Rehearsal Dinner. Lots of photos and tips below, and as always the invitations and paper goods are available in my Etsy Shop.

For the dinner table, we had seating for 30 around one long farm table (okay, actually 4 tables placed together). It immediately created a cozy feeling and even though it was 22-feet long, it was nice to have everyone together at one table. My co-host and I visited the farmer’s market the morning of to pick out an assortment of flowers, which she later used to create beautiful arrangements for the table – with candles and votives mixed between.

But before we all grabbed our seats for dinner, we sipped on delicious craft cocktails mixed up by our lovely bartender. Guest could choose from four fall-inspired craft cocktails using fresh herbs and fruits – surprisingly the most popular was the Bourbon Bomber. To keep everyone mingling, we had individual bags of kettle corn for the bar snack and as the sun went down our caterer hand-passed butternut squash soup shooters.

At the table, mismatched Vintage China dishes in whites and golds were used at each place-setting, along with beautiful gold flatware and white vintage napkins – all rented from Dish Wish. The farm tables and chairs were rented from Classic Party, along with the gold-rimmed wine glasses and mason jars. We had individual baguettes at each person’s seat, which was also used to hold the placecards. In keeping with the food-focused theme, the favors were French Gray Sea Salts packaged into Weck Jars for each guest.

For evening lighting, our husbands strung 175-feet of globe lights across the backyard. It beautifully lit up the backyard along with the 30+ candles adorning the table.
