Playing Catch Up [#printsonprintsonprints]

2012-09-12T09:48:00.000-06:00

A brief collection of past ensembles. You will see these items (especially the leopard print shirt) reoccur many times on this blog...

I am constantly unsatisfied with my wardrobe. It sounds awful to say out loud, but, it's true. I blame this on being a gemini. It's the whole split personality thing. Half of me just wants to wear all black and be totally chic, edgy and classy and the other half wants to wear as many prints and layers as physically possible. The later tends to win, thus, I leave my apartment looking crazy and often homeless. The great thing about style though is that it can change everyday if you want, nothing is ever set in stone. Feeling comfy in your clothes can change your attitude towards your day, I think that's pretty cool.

The great thing and terrible thing about living in NY is the amount of awesomeness one sees everyday. People wear things that I would never consider and they look totally RAD. Plus, every single store, brand, whatever can be found here. Learning how to shop smart. That's my goal.

What they don't tell us [I got lucky]

2012-09-11T19:13:00.000-06:00

Quick photos from my first few months in NY. Ohhh what a tease.

I feel like I come from a pretty average background Meaning, I finished high school, went to collage, got my degrees and was told the world was mine to concur. Then I moved to NY and realized that might not be so true after all. I was a 4.0, triple major in school, granted, I didn't study anything to do with fashion or journalism, I figured I was well rounded and all me professors said my degrees would get me anywhere. Theatre taught me about talking to people, presenting myself, working on a team. French: opened up a new world and the French are big in Fashion, thought it might be useful. Costume Design: that's the closest I got to fashion. When I showed up here, I was not aware that no one in NY takes you seriously unless you have a NY Internship on your resume. Lucky for me, I moved for an internship. Had I just showed up here thinking, cool, I'm a go get myself a job now, I would have a major bridge to cross. The struggle now the internship is over... get another unpaid internship so I can gain some more industry knowledge and work 5 to 6 days a week so I have barley enough money for rent...

In an industry and age where we bust through school to get a job, it's difficult to allow myself the time I need to 'get my ducks in a row'.

This city be [cray]

2012-09-09T22:40:00.000-06:00

HI. Again.

It's been forever since I wrote anything on this. I kind of gave up on the whole blogging thing after I moved to NYC since I lost my photographer and any free time I had. However, 8 months later, I actually kind of miss it and think I might give it another chance.

Basically, I moved from Salt Lake to New York City eight months ago for an Internship at one of the biggest PR firms in NY and Paris. I learned a lot and lost a lot. NYC isn't how it seems in the movies (duh).

This blog used to be about my outfits now it's going to be about figuring out how to live and work in NYC.

I'm on the tightest budget in the world, work 5 days a week and intern 2 days a week, just so I can pay my rent, I used to have goals to check off my list, now I'm lost, and I pretty much live off of carrots with hummus and coffee. Nothing I do is glamourous, but it sure is real. I'm very lucky to be living here and have the opportunities I have. I'm not trying to sound like a train wreck, my life is pretty damn good and easy, I'm sure. I uprooted myself to the most lonely, fast paced, fierce city probably ever (except for maybe the Roman Empire) just like a bunch of us do to achieve a big dream. I'm going to write about figuring out how to live and work in this crazy city (I'm starting from bare bones here) and want to share what I'm learning.

It's going to be me and my iPhone (aided my Instagram and 5 billion other photo apps, of course)...

le week-end [family]

2012-03-04T19:50:00.002-07:00

Took the train to visit some of my family upstate this weekend. It always wonderful to get out of the city and see some trees. I took a three hour nap in front of the wood burning stove, baked three loaves of bread, red-velvet cupcakes and ate homemade jam and fresh blueberries. It couldn't have been any better.

Time to get back to the city. Givenchy showed in Paris today, which means tomorrow will be crazy! Good thing I got 11 hours of sleep last night...

I'm Back!

2012-03-01T21:14:00.002-07:00

Wow! NYC doesn't leave a whole lot of time for blogging. Or maybe working during fashion week doesn't leave a whole lot of time for blogging...

Anyway, I'm back now. Just me, my iPhone and figuring out how to live in this crazy city! It's been good so far! Saw some people and shows I never dreamed I would! Most of the snaps aren't on my computer yet, but, I will upload them soon! There a a few above though! Straight from the front row.

One thing that proving difficult, shopping! Who would have guessed! I see so many amazing things everyday, I can't figure out what my closet is lacking the most...Oh conundrums.

the beginning [part II]

2012-01-18T18:20:00.001-07:00

Finally found an apartment in the city! It's pretty fabulous. Hopefully I will have some time to take some snaps. This internship leaves no time for blogging. We received our clients this week. I'm working on Givenchy and Peter Pilotto. I never really knew much about either, so this is definitely a learning experience. I also know nothing about PR so my brain is working overtime right now. I love a good challenge though.

Your looking at photos mainly from #CapsuleNY which was really cool to get to go to! And, see that jacket I'm wearing in the 6th and last photo? Isn't it fabulous? It's #Highland.

Due to my crazy schedule and lack of photographer in this city instagram is all I have time for. Not the best for capturing 'looks'. Triste.

Yesterday I assisted on the FW '12 shoot for Highland. The collection is amazing. Giant mohair coats, reversible shirts and jackets, big sweaters and baseball hats (made in all sorts of fabric). Be sure to check it out because it is basically fantastic.

NYE x NYC [week one]

2012-01-05T17:48:00.000-07:00

Made it through NYE and week one. So far, I have only bought a giant menswear top from Saturday Nights Surf.

You're looking at photos from around NYC and NYE. The second to last is a snap from Marni. By far one of the best shopping experiences ever. The shop is amazing, not only because of the clothing (which is breath taking) but also the design.

Last photo is from the #HIGHLAND studio. Best menswear ever.

2011-12-26T11:11:00.000-07:00

Hope everyone enjoyed the holidays. Mine were pretty calm this year, but, after being so busy at work, it was exactly what I needed. Can't wait to wear some of the new pieces I received for my wardrobe, such as this amazing Theory sweater and Marc by Marc silk dress. I just hope I can fit in to them after the amount of tasty treats I let myself indulge in these past two days...

Vintage jacket | Calvin Kelin sweater

Hello I'm a bad blogger. With the holidays and my big move coming, I have been so super crazy busy. Took these snaps about a month ago I think...hopefully I can get back in to it.

Found my new favorite jacket! Too bad it doesn't keep me very warm.

PS. Where is all the snow?? I was looking forward to a white christmas...

Thrifted button down, jacket & bag | 7 for all mankind jeans | UO booties

So it's December. Wow! How did that happen? Usually I'm not ready for winter but for some reason, this year, I'm okay with the idea that flakes are going to start falling. Maybe because I went to California so many times this year... We also had such a perfect fall here, the idea of a snowy winter isn't terrifying, just sounds pretty.

It is also incredibly difficult to find long tops. I love this button down because it is sooooo long.

This is Mörkna. It is amazing and the designer comes from my little city. To see more, click here.

"mörkna is an androgynous line that explores the idea of exaggerated minimalism and expression of individuality through the use of layer and texture. the mörkna collection is the result of the combined efforts of american-born designers dave fryer and seth bullough which they established in the summer of 2010. they look to stay conscious of line and volume with the careful selection of fabrics their highest priority." - Mörkna

Anthropologie sweater & booties | 7's for all Mankind jeans | Ecoté blouse

Wow. I definitely suck at blogging. I've also been really crazy busy, as I'm sure everyone has.

Love this new chunky, cropped sweater I bought in LA. I'm trying to figure out how to wear it though. The sleeves are so big, you can put a jacket on top!

Speaking of LA, lot's of people asked me what I used to take the photos from my last LA trip. The answer is...my iphone and instagram. The two greatest inventions known to mankind as of late. I'm totally obsessed (hence the instagram of me instagramming, above).

Here are some of my snaps from LA. Most of the trip evolved around eating. Which was fabulous. I spent most of my time with my two dearest friends Stacey and Whit (who is a rather snappy dresser and excellent film maker). Other then that, I spent most of my time at Barney's Coop and Opening Ceremony...uh oh!

LA lovin'

2011-11-16T13:17:00.001-07:00

So about four days ago I took a slightly spur of the moment trip to LA. Didn't bring my camera or my computer, just my iPhone. I won't be back home for a few more days, but check back for some awesome LA snaps later this week!

LA is a funny place. There are holiday decorations everywhere, it's 70 degrees, sunny and November. Back home, the mountains are snowy and so are the streets. It doesn't seem like the holidays are around the corner here. I'm getting confused about what season I am in...

Hope everyone is enjoying the week so far.

Zara wedges, trench | Sweater courtesy of UB | Modcloth button down (seen here) | Marc by Marc Jacobs jeans

Burr! It has been cold lately. I have been layering up with button downs and sweaters. Luckily, I had a chance to put away my winter coat and bust out my trench today. I love this Modcloth button down (looking better here) but it is a little chilly to wear without a sweater.

Thought I would share some snaps from our last little storm. It was freezing...but beautiful!

Been super busy lately. I recently started a second job and my schedule is crazy. Loving my new employment though. I get to spend my days with Acne, Marc Jacobs, Band of Outsiders and more. Can't complain about that. Plus, my wardrobe will only be getting better...

We are experiencing a fairly decent sized snow storm today. Luckily long underwear fit perfectly under these Gap trousers that I love.

I find it difficult to leave the house when it is cold and snowy outside. Hibernation? Yes please.

I tied the front of this Free People Sweater (I last had on here) up in to knots today. I wanted the top of my new Acne trousers to be seen. I absolutely love these pants. They are super adorable and comfortable. Basically, I just love Acne and currently I believe they can do no wrong. You still can't really see their fun shape in these photos, but, hopefully next time.

The leaves have fallen and it is starting to snow.

Stay warm folks!

Time to fall

2011-10-26T15:40:00.001-06:00

I am totally in love with this top I just received from Free People. It fits well under a sweater and it is long and perfectly oversized. I realized that I really have no green in my wardrobe so from now on, I am going to collect more green. I enjoy it as a color! I can't wait to figure out different ways to wear it.

You are also looking at a few of my favorite fall things. Pumpkins and leaves (duh haha,) coffee ( however, I just discovered a tea that is made with coca and it is slowly becoming my new favorite beverage,) the last of the vegetable from my garden, waffles and tiny treats (which tantalized me this morning in the NY Times)! Who else craves pumpkin this time of year? Pumpkin lattes, cookie, lotion!!

I also haven't created a WishList in a while so I thought it was time to put one together. Love the Rag & Bone gloves above all!

Happy fall, finally!

Zara jacket, top & booties | Urban Blues jeans | Asos sunglasses

I think I need to start wearing another jacket. I think my last three posts have all been in this same jacket. I can't help it though! I love, love, love it so much! I also love these new shoes I bought at Zara. They are super comfy and easy to walk in.

Hope everyone had a good weekend.
