Middle School OPEN HOUSE

Middle School (Grades 5-8) OPEN HOUSE is scheduled for Saturday, February 25th from 1:00 - 3:00. Registration for the 2012-2013 school year has started. All interested students are welcome to come to tour the campus and meet teachers & students. The campus is located at 1015 Davidson Drive.

Middle School SATURDAY SCHOOL scheduled dates for February are February 4th & February 18th. Classes are from 9:00 - Noon, with breakfast being served starting at 8:00 a.m. Students are to attended ONLY if they receive a notice from their teachers. Transportation will be available.

LEAD Academy exists to support and educate the next generation of responsible citizens.
Our goal is for 100% of our students to graduate from high school and attend a 4-year college.

Saturday School scheduled for LEAD Middle - 12/3/11

Saturday School is scheduled for this week on Saturday, 12/3 form 9:00 - Noon. Middle School students will be bringing home a form (11/29/11) to be signed by parent if they are requested to attend. Parents are to send back the signed form by Thursday, 12/1/11. Student who do not receive a a form do not have to attend. Transportation will be available. If parents have any questions, please contact the Front Office at 352-1253.

NEW students & families interested in attending LEAD Middle School (grades 5-8) for the 2012-13 school year are invited to an OPEN HOUSE on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011 from Noon - 2:00 p.m. The event will take place at our Middle School located at 1015 Davidson Road. Tours of the school, general information and applications will be available.

Tutoring for Grades 5-8, scheduled for Thursday, October 13th, is CANCELLED. Due to "Fall Break" and the ending of first quarter, please know that tutoring will resume again on Monday, October 31st.

Salvation Army ANGEL TREE Program

The Salvation Army is now accepting applications for those needing assistance over the holidays for their "Angel Tree Program". Information sheets will be sent home tomorrow with LEAD Middle School students (Grades 5-8) advising dates, times and places where families can register. Middle School "Saturday School" Scheduled for Sept. 24th

Summer at LEAD: Cameron College Prep Welcomes the Class of 2019!

While "summer" and "school" are words some students don't like to see together, some 5th - 8th grade LEADers have been working hard on improving their reading and math skills at LEAD's Summer School the past few weeks. Summer School program leader, Amanda Dagg, says "We've seen great success with our students this summer. One teacher who previously taught at Whites Creek High School said she saw a depth of discussion in 5th/6th graders reading of "The Lottery" that she didn't see in her high school 9th grade class."

"Summer school is good," said one 6th grader, "because I get to see how I'm doing each day and what I need to work on. I know I'm going to be ready to be a 7th grader!"

On June 27th, the doors opened at Cameron College Prep, our newest addition to the LEAD Public Schools family. Some 90 excited 5th graders arrived for LEADership Training, met their teachers, and began to learn what a LEAD public charter school is all about.

" It was wonderful to see new students immersed in the CCP culture of high expectations in the middle of summer vacations. We got off to a great start because all stakeholders were committed to making it a success," said Edon Katz, CCP School Director.

Our LEADers in Washington and Philly

LEAD Academy 8th grade students have been to Washington, D.C. where they toured The White House, visited George Mason University and Howard University, and went to Annapolis to visit The Naval Academy. In between all this, they enjoyed an Orioles baseball game, visited the Inner Harbor, The Smithsonian, The Air and Space Museum and learned how travel by high speed train to the airport!

While in Philadelphia, LEAD High School students toured U Penn, Thomas Jefferson Medical College, and Villanova, where they did the Villanova Challenge Course. The 12 foot scaling wall was a challenge and a thrill they will never forget. Everyone loved The National Constitutional Center and running the "Rocky" steps of The Philadelphia Museum of Art. On the way, they made a brief visit to Virginia Tech and the student memorial there. Of course, Philly cheesesteak and dinner at Buca di Beppo were among the trip's other highlights. Thank you LEAD supporters and friends for helping make these incredible adventures a reality for our students.

LEAD College Trips 2011

It's Spring and that means college visits for LEADers who have worked all year to earn this privilege. The 6th and 7th grades just returned from their trips to Alabama and Georgia, visiting the University of Alabama Birmingham, Auburn, Spelman, Morehouse, and Clark Atlanta. The 8th grade leaves May 9th for Washington, D.C. to visit schools, including Johns Hopkins and Georgetown, and to tour The White House. The 9th grade will head to the Northeast to tour the University of Pennsylvania, University of Virginia, Virgina Tech, and Villanova. They will visit Independence Hall and The Philadelphia Museum of Art where they will run the "Rocky" steps!
